Prologue
Temple of the Moth, Yunnan Forest, China, 1995
"Mina, did you see this?" Dr. Jin asked.
She was gesturing to an ancient Chinese etching on the wall, right underneath the carving of Mothra.
"I didn't," Dr. Ling replied. "What does it say?"
Miki Jin crouched down so she could see the entirety of the etchings. She read them in Chinese.
"Years ago, our villages were attacked by creatures from the ground. One was made from fire, the other was like warm ice. Our Guardians had arrived to help us, but they were different. Mosura was green like jade, and Batora was yellow, like gold."
"That's interesting," Dr. Ling said. "Random mutation?"
"Or a sister species," Dr. Jin suggested.
SETI Telescope Base, New Mexico, 2018
"Sir, we've found something," the scientist said, gesturing to his screen.
The head researcher walked over and looked at the screen. An extraterrestrial object was moving towards Earth's orbit, and according to the spectographs, it was crystalline in appearance.
"How far out is it?" he asked.
"At it's present speed, it should pass us by in a year's time."
