Chapter I
Monarch Base of Operations, Monster Island
"What are we dealing with, Marcus?" Henry Jones asked as he walked into the lab.
"The eggs have changed color completely," Marcus Brody replied. "Mothra's has turned yellow, and Battra's has turned green."
"Any anatomical changes?" Jon Hudson asked.
"It's a little early to tell," Misi Ling replied, "but Mothra's exoskeleton is getting thicker, and protrusions are starting to appear near her joints. Battra would normally be the one expressing these traits, but his exoskeleton is still thin and smooth."
"It's like a gender reversal," Stanton pointed out. "What are their endocrine and hormonal readouts?"
"They have the proper genitalia, but the hormones they're producing are the exact opposite of what they should be," Brody stated.
"So, we're dealing with transgender Titans?"
"Certainly seems that way," Jon noted. "Any notable reaction from Godzilla?"
"He seems concerned," Marcus stated, "but he doesn't seem to be scared or anything."
"What about Minya?" Stanton asked. "Not a good idea to change genders when your little sibling has no idea what's going on."
"He's completely clueless. Not surprised, as this is the first time he's seen Mothra's eggs."
Having been caught up, Jon, Stanton, Kashiwagi, and Ling left the lab, while Marcus and Henry remained.
"I saw the ring on Misi's finger," Henry said, leaning against a table. "You responsible for that, or did someone beat you to the punch?"
"Unfortunately, she's going to be Mrs. Oxley by the end of the year," Marcus replied sadly.
"Oh, Marcus. I'm sorry. She doesn't know what she's missing."
"Ah, Dr. Hudson," Dr. Harold Oxley greeted. "Wonderful timing. Our friends from SETI wanted us to take a look at a meteor they've been tracking for a year."
"How come?" Jon asked.
"They're concerned that the radiation it's giving off might affect the Titans in potentially negative ways, and they asked us because we're specialists in the radiation field."
"Well, let's see the spectrograph, Ox."
Oxley, or Ox, pulled up the spectrograph in question. The wavelength was much shorter than even gamma waves, and instead of photons, the radiation was made of electrons. However, the consistent output of this radiation told the scientists that this meteor wasn't actually a meteor.
"Something tells me that this isn't some hunk of rock floating around in space," Stanton stated.
"What was it's projected path when it was first discovered?" Jon asked.
Ox pulled up a chart of the object's course in 2018. It was projected to simply pass the Earth by.
"Now find it's current trajectory."
After about a minute of calculations, the computer showed that the object was now moving directly for Earth.
"My God," Stanton exclaimed quietly.
"When will it impact?" Jon asked.
"About ten hours, shortly after midnight," Ox replied. "Any idea what this thing is?"
"I'm hoping it's not another Ghidorah."
Godzilla laid down next to the eggs while Minya laid down on the other side, mirroring his dad. Like most animals, Minya had taken to imitating Godzilla like a duckling with its mother. It was quite endearing, to say the least.
Godzilla became mildly concerned when the eggs started to change color, but when they stopped, he calmed down. He had seen Mothra's eggs change color before, when the hatchlings grew up and fought two of the more aggressive Titans.
He didn't know how it actually worked, but he concluded that, somehow, Mothra grew to look like Battra, and Battra grew to look like Mothra. It was confusing, but it's what he gathered from the situation.
Now, these moths would return, and he hoped that they wouldn't be encountering the same Titans again.
