A/N: Chapter three is finally here, I took the time to go back and fix any flaw I found (quite a few). I also noticed a glaring flaw in starship descriptions, I originally described Aphelion but then switched it up by accident so I fixed it. It is also a little sooner than I thought because of how I split it up so it will be a little shorter than the massive monster it was going to be. But on the bright side, I will have a lot done for chapter 4
The first one up was Rivet since she was still used to the short burst sleep schedule that the resistance required. She tried her best to go back to sleep, but wasn't very successful and decided that it was time to get up. She glanced at the clock on the nightstand next to her, which read '7:53 am'. She thought to herself, "wow, that's more sleep than normal. I usually get 4 to 5 hours, this time it was 7, at least it's progress." Still lying down, she rolled over to eye Ratchet. Said lombax was still snoring quietly, she gave him a look of longing. "Are we ready… no am I ready for the next step?... Does he feel the same way about it?... Who will pop the question?..." Rivet had been asking herself these questions for a while now. Infact since she had left for the lombax dimension with Ratchet.
It was about this time Caleb had started stirring, from being disturbed by Rivet's constant repositioning. With one large yawn, Caleb sat up and looked around the new environment. He saw that it was still relatively dark and started looking for a clock. He found it on the nightstand from earlier, '7:59' was the time it displayed. He then looked over left to find Rivet staring at the wall and then to his right to find Ratchet still snoring. Caleb looked back to Rivet to find her in a bit of distress, he decided to lay back down and snuggle closer to her.
Rivet who was still lost in thought was pulled back into reality when she felt something rub against her back. She gently turned over to find Caleb curled in a ball (like a cat) against her. She fought the urge to coo at the sight. So instead she gently scratched the base of the kids' oversized ears, causing him to purr. A few minutes later Ratchet found himself woken up by the sound of purring with the source being Caleb and Rivet, who were snuggled in a huge like embrace. Ratchet laid still for a moment enjoying the adorable sight, and then decided to join (what I'm dubbing the cuddle puddle) by laying next to Rivet and resting his head against her organic shoulder.
The trio sat like this for long while enjoying the comforting warmth, but as all good things do they come to end. This end was provided by a knock on the bedroom door, followed by a little silver bot entering with a yellow one right behind it.
"I see you three are getting along just fine. But I need to inform Ratchet that there is a letter on the table addressed to him. And that he needs to read it immediately." Came Clank's rushed explanation indicating that it was urgent.
"Fine, I will be there in a minute," grumbled Ratchet, upset that he had to get up from the cuddle puddle.
Rivet spoke up before he left the room, "it'll be fine Ratchet, it's probably just a bill labeled 'urgent' to get your attention."
"You're probably right," Came Ratchet's somber reply. Once he entered the kitchen he found Clank sitting on the table trying to open the letter with no success.
Clank sighed frustrated, "There seems to be some kind of lock preventing me from opening this letter. Most likely it's some kind of bio-lock that is tuned to your DNA." he then handed Ratchet the letter. Like Clank predicted it had a bio-lock that was tuned to lombax DNA.
After reading the first line of the letter Ratchet called out to Rivet, "Rivet you might want to see this, it's addressed to both of us."
Rivet sighed and nudged Caleb off her lap. She then hopped off the bed and stretched with a yawn, and then walked to the kitchen. Once she got there, she found Ratchet sitting at the table staring at the letter in his hands. As she sat down next to him he glanced up from the letter. "Took you long enough," Ratchet stated, his eyes glimmering with mirth. Rivet in response to his shenanigans rolled her eyes and shook her head. She then sat down to the left of him and gazed at the letter.
Dear fellow lombaxes,
It has come to our attention that one of our own has gone missing. We have good reason to believe it was you that they have left with. As to how we know he left with you is because of tachyon. See, we have been tracking dimensional anomalies for an invasion by his forces, and you triggered the alarm by opening a rift to our home. Anyway, that is not the point of this letter and if you want I will explain more in person upon request. All we need you to do is come back to our dimension with the boy to prove he is safe and sound and if you want to keep him we have a form that you can fill out. We have given you the call sign of 'Leaping Angle' because we know you entered with an 'Angle' class starship. Once in our dimension, wait for air traffic control to communicate, then respond with the previously mentioned call sign and your name and we'll do the rest.
Hope to see you soon, Councilmen K.
Both lombaxes were stunned, they were certain that they were discrete when entering the lombax dimension. Clank interrupted their thoughts, "well, I guess since the letter doesn't say that we are trouble if we go back. We can go but we'll have to be careful when returning to be sure it's not a trap."
"Well let's get ready to go back then, we won't want to keep them waiting," Ratchet Added, excited to meet this councilman that sent the letter. Rivet nodded in response and headed to the bedroom to prepare Caleb for the day. Once she had him dressed she locked herself in the bathroom and got changed herself. Once out of the bathroom she found Ratchet alone, in the process of getting dressed. Ratchet noticed the bathroom door open and looked up to find Rivet staring bashfully, having not expected to find her boyfriend half-dressed. He couldn't help himself to not tease her, "Enjoying the view?" he asked in a slightly provocative voice flexing his biceps
Rivet's blush deepened to a red that shouldn't be possible. Trying to combat this embarrassment she hid her face behind her hands and waved him off. "Would you please put on a shirt!" She screeched barely above a whisper, desperately looking at anything else but him. Ratchet sighed in acknowledgment and finished getting dressed by throwing on the top of his pilot suit. Once ratchet was done fiddling with his shirt, both lombaxes left the room. They found Caleb sitting on the couch talking to clank.
"You mean I have to go home?" Caleb whined.
"It will be fine, I'm sure both Ratchet and Rivet will want to keep you around so you don't have to back to being on your own again," Clank reassured him as soothing as possible for a robot
Rivet jumped in without a second thought. "Yeah, we'll keep you around mister cute and fuzzy." Ratchet just nodded, not wanting to be verbally bound to take care of a kid. Once they had their arsenal retrievals packed with the essentials and the letter, they left for Aphelion.
A/N: I hope to have chapter 4 done at the end of the month but is not guaranteed anyways reviews are always appreciated.
