Cameron was looking around to see what the competition was looking like. Cameron was more focused on the newer models of the equipment. Wengie was happy for her friend, seeing how he has helped her this whole time and now she can repay the favor. As the two of them were walking, Wengie felt as if they were being watched. She looked around, but saw no one. Wengie took it as being too suspicious and walked it off.
An announcer called for all competitors to meet in the main lobby to go over the rules for the event. The host welcomed all of the guests and proceeded to state the rules. Every contestant was to go by an alias. Each round the contestants are to film a certain style of video and submit it to the judges. Then if the judges qualify it, then the audience votes which ones they like. The least voted few get eliminated and whichever film gets the most votes in the final round is the winner.
The first round was to make romantic scene. Cameron was not too familiar with this style of recording; but he was up for the challenge. The venue was gracious enough to have actors on standby along with a script the actors had to read off of. The scene was that two people loved each other but could not be together because of family conflicts. Cameron had his hands tied with this one.
Cameron had gone to a studio sized room with two actors. A voice from behind a screen yelled out for the participant to start recording. Cameron saw how the actors were well rehearsed into their lines and was amazed. He did notice that the angle he started from did not look too appealing; so he asked for a second take and changed positions. They allowed for this, and proceeded to redo the acting. Once Cameron finished his recording, he sent the footage for the judges to see.
All of the other contestants sent in their footage. Now, all they have to do is wait for the results. The host came back out with the top five contenders who had advanced through to the next round. Cameron saw that over thirty people had entered and figured that there was no chance he had moved on to the top five. Wengie pointed out that Cameron had indeed moved on to the next round. Cameron was ecstatic on his placement. The next round would not be announced until a few hours, so the two of them headed to the cafeteria for the moment.
The two of them were drinking on some water to relax for the moment. Wengie took this time to see what her fans were saying about her match with Surge. To her surprise, more of her fans were rooting for Surge to win this one. She was getting amped up for her battle to prove that she is capable of beating her odds. Just then, a voice was trying to call out to the two of them.
"Cameron sweaty, over here darling!" the voice called out.
"Do you know that woman?" Wengie asked.
"Mom, Dad; what are you guys doing here?!" Cameron was in shock.
"We heard there was going to be a filming competition and hoped you were going to enter." Cameron's mom answered.
"And good to see we were right. The last few places you were not there so we thought you just did nothing this whole time." Cameron's father added.
"And I see you have a lady friend too." Cameron's mom noted.
Wengie introduced herself formally instead of when they met on the phone the one time. This did not distract the parents from praising their son about his placement so far. Wengie added that she believes Cameron can win the whole thing. Cameron just shrugged and was delighted to see his parents here. They asked what he has been working on lately and Cameron tried to avoid the question. Wengie noticed Cameron was feeling uncomfortable, so she pulled him to the side.
Wengie asked what was going on with Cameron acting all shy. Cameron explained that he has not done any sort of work until she came to him. And it was not because there was little work to have been done in Pewter City. It was due to not having any sort of degree in the field so no one was hiring. Cameron did not want to sound like he disappointed his family so he tries to avoid the topic all together. Wengie sighed and walked back over to his parents.
She apologized about her impolite walk away and asked Cameron to get some more beverages. As Cameron left, Wengie started to strike up a conversation with the parents. She started off by saying their son is a great person. To which they nodded in agreement. The conversation soon transpired to the topic of content creators. Wengie mentioned how she likes the person how makes people do the Hokey Slowpoke if they lose a battle. The parents did not have any feeling at this conversation.
Wengie then started to mention about Wengie's Wonderful Wedgies. The parents gave a weird expression at that name. Wengie explained this person just challenges people to a Pokémon battle and the loser gets a wedgie. Wengie showed Cameron's parents some of the videos of Wengie's gym battles. They were even more confused why someone would go out and do such pranks. Wengie was not sure how to answer to that and waited for Cameron to come back.
As soon as Cameron had arrived, the contestants were called for their next challenge. This time, they remaining five contestants had to record an action scene. Cameron felt at ease with this style of recording. The scene was that two of the actors were fighting over a loved one. Cameron read the one line in the script and had an idea on how to film it. One of the actors had a deep impactful line, so Cameron had the camera aimed at the said actor in an upward angle. Cameron and another contestant had moved on to the finals.
The person Cameron would have to go up against wanted to win by any means necessary. The final challenge was to interview the actors about the competition. Cameron was confident with this because Wengie had done similar concepts with her videos. Cameron's opponent did not like Cameron's confidence and wanted to win. After Cameron and his adversary interviewed the actors, a winner was easily decided. Cameron was not the winner of the contest. The judges were upset with how Cameron approached the actors; and Cameron was confused at what they were talking about.
"You yelled at the actors and demanded they give you high remarks!" one of the judges said.
"No I didn't! I asked what their thoughts were of the filming, that's all." Cameron defended.
"Then explain this!" Another judge showed Cameron what he had submitted.
"That is not how I asked those questions. You can ask them yourself." Cameron was confused.
"Oh we do young man!" The judge said as he left to talk to the actors.
Cameron walked out of the studio upset. Wengie asked what was wrong, and Cameron said his footage was corrupted. Wengie was shocked to hear this. After Wengie heard what footage the judges heard, she was disgusted at how someone could manipulate Cameron's equipment. The judges came back out, but they were confused because the actors cooperated Cameron's side of the story.
A figure stared at them and saw how Cameron and Wengie were feeling. The judges could not figure out what was going on. But since there was no explanation, they still rewarded the other competitor for winning. The figure used some sort of force to have the winner confess that they sabotaged Cameron's footage so that Cameron would not win. The figure then left the area as if they were never there. The judges disqualified the fraud and awarded Cameron as the winner.
The prize was new state of the art equipment. Cameron was excited that he won and was even more excited that he had upgraded equipment too. Wengie and Cameron's parents congratulated him on his victory. All of them had gone out to dinner for a celebration. A man in a suit had approached them to talk to Cameron. He first apologized for interrupting their meal. He then proceeded to offer Cameron a job as an official editor and camera man for his company. Cameron wanted to take the job; but he did not want to leave Wengie all by herself too.
Wengie then told Cameron that he should follow his dreams. She knew what it was like to have something holding you back from your goals. And she did not want to be the reason for Cameron to follow his. Cameron smiled at this and made a promise to her. He was going to stay in Vermillion City to work for the company, and he was still going to edit her videos too. After the man heard that Cameron had accepted his offer, he left them to their celebration.
Cameron was delighted that now he is an official editor and film maker. He then proceeded to tell his parents about the struggles he was having finding work. Cameron then went on to tell them that because of Wengie, he was editing her videos which landed him here. Cameron's parents were happy that Wengie encouraged their son to follow through with his dreams.
Wengie then proceeded to get an alert on her device. She then saw that it was LT. Surge who had posted a video. The Vermillion City gym leader had called out Wengie the Wedgier for the fact that she had never defeated the official gym leaders of her victories. The gym leader went on to say that he was looking forward to their upcoming match. He even reminded her of their wager; the loser gets the first ever Vermillion Wedgie. No rules apply to this concept. Wengie looked at the video and the comments and just laughed.
When Cameron's parents asked what was so funny; Wengie just explained that it was an inside joke. Cameron shook his head and told Wengie to fully explain the situation. Wengie's eyes blew up at hearing that and confirmed if she had heard correctly. To which Cameron agreed too. So Wengie told them about her persona Wedgie the Wedgier.
Cameron's parents chuckled at this and said they had a feeling that was the case. When Wengie asked how they could have guess. Cameron's mother noted at how the videos she showed earlier looked similar to Cameron's style of editing. While Cameron's dad pointed out that both women have the same first name so it was not hard to figure out from that either. Wengie looked embarrassed at being confronted about her identity instead of her revealing it herself. The parents did not mind that she was doing that. They just made a rule to her that Cameron must not be treated in the same manner as Wengie treated her opponents. Wengie rubbed her neck out of guilt and the parents knew what that meant.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Cameron was still admiring his new gadgets. Wengie came out with her shorts hoisted up past her stomach. She joking mentioned how her other self needs to figure out a revenge plan for Cameron's parents. Cameron noted that if she tried that, then she will receive worse than the wedgie they gave her. Just that thought made her forget any attempts to get even. Wengie was now thinking of a plan to take on Surge with. So she decided to watch some of his battles to get an idea on how to beat him.
She was seeing how other trainers had battled him, and was astounded at way she saw. LT. Surge only uses his Raichu, and barely loses his matches. Wengie thought it would be a good idea to go with Cubone for her match. That was until she saw that Raichu knows Ice Punch as well. The move looked powerful after fighting off a Flygon. So Cubone was out off the option. She would have to rely on her normal tactics for now. Although she was not looking forward to losing.
