One Month Later
"Haruhi!"
Haruhi flinched in surprise as her father came up and pulled her into a hug. She gladly hugged back, after processing what had just happened. Having spent the last fifteen minutes trying to pick her dad out from the crowd coming off of the boat. Only to have him catch her off guard by somehow sneaking up on her while her attention went in a different direction.
"Hi, dad. How was the trip over?"
"Great! At least considering the circumstances! Where's Tamaki?"
The pair pulled away from the hug while Haruhi replied.
"It's just me here. We both decided that he'd get the supplies to take care of the three of us while I picked you up. I hope that's alright."
Ranka waved it off dismissively.
"Absolutely! Whatever is easiest for you, sweet pea. You have everything ready for that wedding of yours, right?"
Haruhi nodded.
"Yeah, we saved up enough for a small get together afterward. You have everything you need, right? I can cover a bit of it if you need help?"
Ranka shook his head.
"I've already got it, dear. Don't worry about me! By the way, what was the other thing you and Tamaki wanted to talk about?"
Haruhi's face reddened slightly.
"Well, we kinda wanted to bring it up with everyone else. We'll tell you during that get together. Is that okay?"
Ranka nodded.
"Yes, it sounds like important news. Is that why you want us to all be together?"
Haruhi nodded.
"Yes. In the very least we wanted to tell you in person because it is important."
Ranka looked at her suspiciously.
"Is it something I'm not going to be happy about?"
Haruhi shrugged.
"I really don't know. Tamaki and I just know we have to tell you all before you go back."
"Alright. I'll trust your judgement."
Later
"Do you think they'll be mad?"
Haruhi raised an eyebrow at Tamaki.
"Mad about this? Maybe because we waited so long to tell them. But I think they'll understand why we wanted to talk in person about it."
Tamaki pulled Haruhi closer.
"It's not just that. Remember what Kaoru texted us last month? Are you sure that won't be a problem?"
Haruhi nodded confidently.
"Yes. The only reason it would be is if Hikaru got mad at Kaoru for lying to everyone. Which he's justified in doing."
Tamaki blinked, raising an eyebrow.
"'Lying'? What do you mean?"
Haruhi looked at Tamaki weirdly.
"I don't know how I was the only host to know he clearly doesn't like me that way. At this point I wouldn't blame him if he decided to stop being friends just so Kaoru would stop bothering him."
Tamaki tilted his head as another question came to mind.
"But didn't Kaoru say he was texting you the same day he told us?"
Haruhi shook her head. Her answer being the final word in what was practically a minor argument.
"Hikaru didn't text me anything that day. He was talking to someone else. He has feelings for someone else."
Tamaki paused, when he thought about it, he realized his fiancé had a point. If Hikaru was really still interested in her, he would have been blushing, stuttering when talking to her specifically. And would likely get jealous.
That was not happening. The only thing that was true was Hikaru getting defensive whenever Kaoru brought the topic up. Rightly so as Haruhi said.
"Should we talk to him, then?"
"Well, yeah. He could use some reassurance if Kaoru won't let him have it. We're his friends. Besides, if there's any proof Kaoru needs to know he doesn't like me that way, Hikaru gave it two months ago."
"Like what?"
"Like what he told me two months ago. He knew Kaoru might stir something up, so he wanted to warn me. He can tell you the rest when we talk to him."
Surprisingly, Tamaki took that answer despite being unsure about it. Hoping that the moment to talk would arrive fast enough to ease his confusion.
The Next Day
"Sorry for blocking you both without an explanation. I just didn't know how to get Kaoru to leave me alone."
Haruhi smiled sympathetically.
"It's alright. We understand. In fact, that's what I wanted to talk to you about. It's okay, I know you don't like me that way, Hikaru."
To say Hikaru looked relieved would have been an understatement.
"Thank you. I'm so sorry I didn't get the guts to explain the truth sooner. But, I know I've got to get it over with, we just need to wait for him to get here."
Tamaki tilted his head.
"Him?"
Hikaru nodded, smiling with a blush on his face as he looked away. Immediately telling the pair what he was about to say before he said it.
"My boyfriend. I've, kinda known I'm not attracted to women for a while. I think I've had feelings for him for around nine years, we've been going out for about seven. I was just being a coward, and now it's caused this big issue. I wish I got the guts sooner. But I was worried he wasn't ready, either."
Tamaki gave Hikaru a smile.
"That's understandable, Hikaru. Kaoru is the one being irrational and not listening. As long you're both happy, we don't have a problem. We'll do our best to help you clear up the misunderstanding."
Hikaru beamed and hugged them. Looking like he had dropped the most heavy weight off of his shoulders and could finally walk freely.
"Thank you. Thank you both."
"Don't mention it, we're your friends. We gotta have your back."
Just then, a voice was heard.
"Hello."
Hikaru looked slightly nervous again, got out of the hug, and went over to where his boyfriend could pull him into a hug.
When Haruhi and Tamaki were able to see, they were met with Mori waving at them with a small smile.
