Chapter Two

It's a Sunday afternoon when the alarm sounds, her eyes jolting open as her head rests upon the sleeping speedster's bare chest. She knew this day would come; she hopes she's ready.

Without a word, the speedster disappears in the blink of an eye, racing to his quarters to suit up. He's nervous. He should be.

The archer pulls the emerald uniform from her closet, her thumb running over the Kevlar laced material. It feels heavy, everything does.

She holds it in front of her, glancing one last time at the light green arrowhead insignia on the chest plate. For some ridiculous reason, every hero seems to have one, like the general public wouldn't recognize them without it. It doesn't seem so ridiculous now.

It means something, a feeling that's hard to put into words. Duty, Pride, Salvation, Belonging? Whatever it is, it makes her feel…whole. Like she's finally the person she was meant to be.

The archer packs the uniform away in her carry-on and begins to make her way towards the hangar.

There are no more mission briefings, no more dossiers to review. They know their jobs. They know the roles they must play. An hour from now she'll be meeting her sister at some abandoned airstrip in the Everglades, then on to Sana Prisca.

She rushes down the hallway towards the BioShip when suddenly red gloves grab her from behind, dragging her into one of the empty supply rooms that line the corridor. She doesn't struggle, she's exactly where she wants to be.

They kiss passionately: desperately, as if every second together might be their last. In moments, an irritated Kaldur will call for them over the intercom. Let him.

With one last kiss, she reluctantly pulls way, adjusting his cowl while he hands her the hair tie. He opens the door, when her hand reaches for his.

"In case anything happens…."

He squeezes it and smiles "What could go wrong?"

She's seventeen but she feels much older. By the end of the day, one way or another, she'll finally be rid of her father or die trying. If this plan works and Team is successful, the new life she's been dreaming of can finally begin.
