Chapter 62:

The Sound of Thundurus

Location: PW2 Lobby

"And as we can see from yesterday's rankings, the challenger Hugh was just about beaten by the victor Jules and his mysterious Pokémon Sylveon. It's not a Pokémon that is seen in Unova."

"I can't believe it," Hugh said. "Good thing you were helping Colress yesterday, so you didn't have to see my embarrassing loss."

"Cheer up!" I said. "This won't be the last time the PWT will hold something like this; you can try again next year!"

Hugh knew I was right, but he was still in awe at Sylveon. What exactly was it?

"You're up next!" Mr. Cheren said. "Looks like you'll be battling another Gym Leader. Good luck!"

"I won't need it!" I said. I would be battling Lt. Surge from the Vermillion City Gym in the Kanto region. He uses Electric Types, so I had my team planned once again. Flygon for immunity, Serperior for resistance and Zoroark for Illusion.

Location: PWT Battlefield

"Welcome one and all to another day at the PWT. After a brilliant victory against Winona yesterday, Champion Rosa Wright hopes to keep up her streak! And here she is now!"

I walked onto the battlefield, waving at everyone.

"And on the other side, from Vermillion City, it's the Lightning Tough Guy, Lt. Surge!" On the other end was a blonde man in a green tank top and camo shorts.

"Okay cadet, you are going to give it all you got! No holding back unless you want to be shocked! Not that you won't be anyway!"

Rosa Vs. Lt. Surge

"Serperior, go!" I shouted.

"I choose Ampharos!" Lt. Surge replied, sending out the yellow Pokémon with the red orb on its tail.

Ampharos (デンリュウ)

027 (Unova)

Electric Type

Light Pokémon

4'07" (1.4 m)

135.6 lbs (61.5 kg)

The tip of its tail shines so brightly it can be used to send sea-navigation beacons to distant foreign shores.

Mareep -Lv 15 – Flaaffy -Lv 30- Ampharos

"Serperior, use Coil!" Serperior coiled itself round, raising Attack, Defense and Speed.

"Ampharos, Signal Beam!" Ampharos shot a red and green beam from its tail. It hit Serperior for Super Effective damage.

"Serperior, Leaf Blade!" Serperior slithered quickly over to Ampharos and slashed it. One more would do the trick.

"Signal Beam!" Ampharos used Signal Beam again. When it hit, Serperior was confused.

"Can you do another Leaf Blade?" I asked Serperior. Unfortunately, it hit itself. It wasn't looking good.

"And another Signal Beam!" After that, Serperior was clinging for dear life.

"One last Leaf Blade!" Overcoming (but not snapping out of) its confusion, Serperior got another attack in. Ampharos went down.

"I'm not done. Go Electivire!" Lt. Surge sent out Electivire, a Pokémon I felt like I was going to struggle with.

"Try another Leaf Blade!" However, Serperior hurt itself. It went down. "Oh no," I thought. "No no, don't be like that. Go Flygon!" It was risky sending in my main weapon that early, but what other choice did I have? Well, Zoroark but still.

"Electivire, Ice Punch!" Electivire ran forward and punched Flygon with its icy fist. Sike! It was Zoroark all along!

"Nice try! Use Night Daze!" Zoroark slammed its hands on the ground and sent out a shockwave of dark energy that did a lot of damage to Electivire.

"Use Cross Chop!" Electivire crossed its arms and charged towards Zoroark, landing a Super Effective hit.

"Use Night Slash!" Zoroark's claws went dark, and it swiped at Electivire. It was a Critical Hit and took it down.

"Enough! Go Electrode!" Lt. Surge sent out a large Pokéball with a goofy grin.

Electrode (マルマイン)

101 (National)

Electric Type

Ball Pokémon

3'11" (1.2 m)

146.8 lbs (66.6 kg)

It is known to drift on winds if it is bloated to bursting with stored electricity.

Voltorb -Lv 30- Electrode

"Signal Beam!" Electrode used Signal Beam and took down Zoroark.

"I still have Flygon!" I yelled, sending it out.

"Signal Beam again!" Another Signal Beam was fired, but it missed!

"Now use Earth Power!" Flygon created a shockwave through the ground that hit Electrode. It was a Critical Hit, knocking out Electrode.

"Well, it seems I was the one who was shocked!"

Fireworks went off around us.

"Everyone, Rosa moves up again to the next round! Two more victories, and she is the winner!"

Location: PWT Lobby

"Amazing!" Bianca said. "You're doing so well, but I expected that! At this rate you'll demolish this competition!"

I mean, what could I say? I'm the Champion!

"Hey, there's Hugh," I said. He was sitting on a bench, so I went over to him.

"What's up?" I said.

"Oh, nothing," he replied. "I'm just thinking about what that Sylveon was."

"Don't obsess over it!" I said. "Ask Jules when he comes out of his next battle! He's battling Norman right now! Did you know his son is the Champion of the Hoenn region?"

"Oh, cool," Hugh replied. I decided I should leave him alone. And it was the perfect time to. I had a message from Colress; the next storm was at Castelia City.

Location: Castelia City

The storm had already hit by the time I arrived. I was advised not to fly over, so I had to go through the Clay Tunnel, back through the sewers (can confirm, the smell had not improved) and get blasted in the face with rain. Colress was waiting outside for me.

"Who is it this time?" I asked, just as a large crash of lightning struck one of the tallest buildings.

"Thundurus. You'll need to be careful this time. Whilst Tornadus creates windstorms, Thundurus creates lightning and thunderstorms. I'm afraid we can't have you flying up there on Magnezone."

"True," I replied. "But that's why I'll use Flygon!" I sent it out.

"Wonderful idea! Being a Ground Type, Flygon won't be affected by bolts of electricity. You're smart Rosa! Mr. Cheren taught you well."

I got on Flygon and flew off.

I flew in and saw a lightning strike come my way. Thankfully, Flygon absorbed it with its tail. Through the strikes, I could see the outline of a legless beast with large hands.

Thundurus (Therain Forme) (ボルトロス)

199 (Unova)

Electric/Flying Type

Bolt Strike Pokémon

9'10" (3 m)

134.5 lbs (61 kg)

The spikes on its tail discharge immense bolts of lightning. It flies around the Unova region firing off lightning bolts.

Legendary Pokémon

"Get closer Flygon!" I shouted. Even through the crashing thunder, Flygon could hear me. Flygon flew closer and closer, to the point where it went up to Thundurus' face. "Too close!" I shouted. Thundurus grabbed Flygon by the neck and threw it down. At the last minute, I jumped off Flygon and shone the Reveal Glass in Thundurus' eyes…

Before I knew it, Thundurus, having reverted back, was taking me down to Castelia City.

"Good thing you calmed down," I said. Thundurus gave me a nod; if its face wasn't as deadpan as it was, it would have been grinning.

It flew me down to Thumb Pier, where Colress and Burgh were waiting for me.

"What happened in there?" Burgh asked.

"He saved Thundurus," Colress said. "Rosa, thanks for your help. The last one we have is Landorus. I'm afraid it may be the hardest one to conquer. I don't know where it will appear yet."

"Well, it might be easier with some help…" I mentioned.

Two victories in one day! One at the PWT and one against Thundurus. Things are going great, but it's about to get a whole lot harder…
