Squid Game: A New game 3
************* Some Answers ************
Seong Gi-hun sat at a restaurant table in the city of Ssangmun-dong in South Korea. He sat with his meal (a fresh plate of squid) which he had ordered from the restaurant menu.
Gi had never been partial to this particular type of food. However, he felt that he'd been pressured to make the choice due to a threat made against his family. Also, he felt confused. The thought crossed his mind…..
"Why would they claim that he had a choice to join the "Game" only to take that choice away from him at this point?
They seemed to be playing games with his mind. Maybe he hadn't understood it before….but once you've played "Squid Game" there was no going back. It might be akin to joining a crime organization. Once you're a member, you're a member for life. Haunted by your past and remaining in "lockstep" with the core group.
He felt sick. Even if "Squid" had been a favorite meal of his…he wouldn't have be able to eat.
Anyway, Gi was still sitting there waiting for his contact. That was when a man walked up to the table. Gi-hun looked up and recognized the fellow from the train station. The DDAKI guy.
**************** Trap ****************
"How's your lunch….tasty", the man asked?
Tasty or not, the fellow had a smug look on his face. What a morbid character.
"Mind if I sit and join you," he asked?
Seong motioned for him to take a chair.
The man sat and then pulled a notepad and pen from his suit pocket. He began looking at Gi-hun with a curious eye….then, he started writing something.
"What are you doing," Gi asked?
The fellow paused…..
"I'm looking at your head," he answered. "I'm evaluating the shape and size to make sure that you get a proper fit."
"Proper fit…for what?"
"For your headdress."
Just then it hit the former Squid Game player that he was being surveyed for some kind of head concealment. Something that would hide his face….keep him incognito. Well, that suited him just fine. He had no desire to have his identity revealed to a group of people he completely distained. It was bad enough knowing that the keepers of the game knew who he was.
The man finished his calculations and put his pen and pad away. He then just sat back looking at Gi for a while. To Seong it seemed as though he was being studied.
After a moment the fellow began inform Gi of a few more details about how the "Games" worked, from a VIP's perspective. What they were allowed to do….and what they were not. The rules "stated" that in no way was a VIP participant to disclose their identity to anyone while at the location. And, that they had to follow whatever customs were parent to the host country when traveling. Finally the fellow finished his instructions.
"Well, I guess that about it for now," he said. "You will be contacted with travel arrangements to America. Time, location, and certain code-words or phrases to use at certain points. We have to maintain security…..you understand."
He paused, and then he added.
"Oh, one last thing. What kind of animal do you want represented on your headdress?"
"What?"
Seong was a little surprised by the question.
"You know. Bull, goat, Sea Serpent…..I'll let you know if your choice is available. It's a symbol that will represent you. Something that will define you, even though others do not know who you are. It is something akin to how you see yourself."
For a time Gi-hun did not answer. He had no idea what kind of animal he considered himself as. He'd really never thought about it. And then it hit him. Something that was clever. An animal that, in the wild, was known for turning the table around on his opponent. Crafty and smart, with the ability to allude his pursuers.
"Fox."
The man's eyes lit up. He gave out a little chuckle.
"Do you find that funny…" Gi asked?
The man looked at him.
"Is that the reason you colored your hair red?"
