After they arrived back into the Town from their treasure hunt, Nessie looked around, confused about everything.
"W-What is all this?" asked Nessie. Sean and Jennifer then showed her around the Town. They introduced her to the Keckleon Shop, to the local pub and café called "Pambar", the local Guild, the Meowth Bank, to the local doctor, who is an Audino, the Elder of the town Carracosta and the Kangaskon storage, with the Shopkeeper not being there.
"Must been gone to pick Berries" Jennifer said before they made their way to the cliff.
As they arrived, they enjoyed the view for a while before Sean then showed Nessie the makeshift grave.
"I-is that…"
"Yes. I buried him here so he always could see this view to the sea he always loved."
Sean then smiled a bit while looking at the grave
"You know Nessie….he saved my life." His small smile then fades away. "B-but it costed his life" he then turned to Nessie and hugged her crying. Nessie then comforted Sean and he tolled her the story about what happened.
"At least his last good deed was saving you"
Sean then wipped his tears and looked down. "I-I had nightmares and I give myself the fault for it"
"But it wasn't. He saved a friend" she then petted Sean as he smiled. He then gave Jenny the golden statue they got from the Temple and tolled her to show Nessie their home. As they both went to Sean's house, he turned around, facing Toti's grave and smiled.
"I found your ancestor. I also found the treasure you always wanted…but I have to tell you something"
Sean then pulled out the Lapras statue from his bag, wrapped the tattered bandana around the statue and put the statue on Toti's grave. "I-I have to let you go. Ill continue treasure hunting and going on adventures for you…but for that I have to let the pain go…I have to let you go."
Sean then wrote Toti's name on a piece of paper.
"Ill never forget you partner"
He then threw the paper up in the air and burned the paper, before saluting infront of the grave.
"Rest in peace buddy"
Sean the proceeded to walk to his house and went inside to find Nessie resting in a blowup pool with water, but no Jennifer.
"Where is she?"
"I don't know"
"Well Ill go to the Pambar if she comes back and asks where I am"
Sean then petted Nessie, told her to be safe and went to the bar.
As he entered the bar, he went to the counter, ordered a drink and chatted with the Bartender until he heard a familiar voice.
Sean then looked around and then saw Jennifer talking with a Squirtle
"Is he doing better now? What happened hit him harder than me." The Squirtle said, which Jennifer
replied with a nod.
Sean drank his drink and continued to listen to the conversation while hiding his face behind a menu card.
"You told me that when we were in the forest. He barely did anything after the attack. Mostly he was either here or at the grave and cried for hours."
"Yeah. They knew each other since they were hatched and they had a lot of adventures. It upset me when I saw him like this. I mean I also was very upset and closed up for days since well…he was my stepbrother, but it hit him deeply"
"And that's why when we got attacked and you ran away to get help…"
"Yes"
Sean couldn't believe his ears. The letter was from Toti's stepbrother, and he knows Jennifer.
"Anyway, here is the money that you need to give him" the Squirtle said, giving Jennifer the 500 Pokedollars and the payment for the bill at the bar.
"I have to go now. I need to meet the rest of the Squirtle squad"
Jennifer nodded and sipped on her Milkshake. Sean then ordered a Cocktail on the table where Jennifer was sitting as he walked to her and sat down on the chair across her, grabbed the bag with the Pokedollars and put his legs on the table
"Interesting"
"W...what are you doing here?"
"Oh, I just wanted to relax and drink something. But since you're here we can introduce ourselves a bit more."
Jennifer looked down nervously into her milkshake glass, as Sean's cocktail arrived
"You kinda know me. My name is Sean I have a dead partner, I am a treasure hunter and now I also rescue Pokémon"
Sean then took a sip from his cocktail and smiled. "aaahh Cocktails are better without alcohol. So what else do you want to know about me"
Jennifer then thought for a bit and then asked were e was from.
"Not from here my dear. Me and my partner moved in this down a few months ago."
"Why?"
"Because treasure hunters move from place to place often. We barely stay put."
After hearing this Jennifer's heart felt a bit…heavy.
But, why? He did rescue her life and she gave him back hope but why does her heart feel heavy?
"S-so like the Squirtle squad?"
"Yes."
Jennifer nodded and then asked about Sean's hometown.
"It's more a city. My mom still works in the café that she owns there."
"Oh nice. How did you got to treasure hunting?"
Sean then thinks for a while before replying.
"I used to explore caves together with Toti. One day we found this"
Sean pulled out a crystal from his bag and smiled.
"I never sold it or kept it in the vitrine. I always took it with me as my good luck stone"
He then sighed as he put the crystal back in the bag.
"I miss him. You know, he was my first friend." He smiled as he sipped his drink. "All the adventures and mischiefs we caused."
"H-how did you both meet?", asked Jenny. Sean then smiled even more. "Well when I was born my mom just moved into the city where she still lives and I had problems making friends. The first Pokémon that took me somewhere where we could play was Toti."
Sean then sighed and sniffed a bit. "W-we went to school together. We had small adventures and then made our own treasure hunting team. We made a lot of friends from far and wide who wished me their condolences when he died. H-he…"
He then started to cry a bit.
"He always helped me when I was down and…he was just a great guy."
He then wipped his tears and looked at Jennifer "enough about me. From where are you?"
Jennifer finished her milkshake before answering.
"Well I was born and raised here. I own a little Berry and apple pie shop and that's why I went with Squirtle to the apple woods" she smiled "I live with my mom and my brother in a small but nice home."
"And how did you meet the Squirtle?"
"A year ago, he was waiting for the rest of the squad and bought my cake and we then talked for a bit and we became friend" she smiled "he helps me out and we hang out if he's here. It pained me to see him that upset after he died."
Sean nods in agreement and sighs as he finished his drink.
"Were you ever in a rescue or treasure hunting team?"
Jennifer nodded. "I was in a rescue team but we parted ways because of differences."
Sean nodded. "So you have experience in this and also you fight really well. Do you know why I asked?"
Jennifer shook her head.
"Well…do you want to step into Toti's footsteps?"
He then pulled out a red bandana out of his bag.
Jennifer looked a bit shocked but then agreed as she grabbed the bandana and put it on.
Sean smiled "Welcome to Rescue and treasure hunting Team Ruby. Or just Team Ruby.
Sean then paid for his drink and Jennifer for hers and both got up and went to the entrance when another Team out of a Houndoom, a Machoke and a Lopunny stepped into the bar.
"Step aside everyone. Team HML is here.", the Houndoom said as he pushed Sean and Jennifer away. He was followed by the Machoke who apologized for Houndooms behavior and a Lopunny, that noticed Sean and squatted down in front of him.
"Oh what happened to you?"
The Lopunny picked Sean up and hugged him and kissed his nose as he bushed softly.
"I-I got attacked and lost my partner some time ago."
The Lopunny petted him and told him that everything is fine.
Jennifer growled softly and bawled her hands to fists while feeling enraged.
Wait? Enraged? Why?
As she calmed down she asked herself why. Why the heavy heart when he mentioned that he never stays in one place and why does she feel an inner rage when that Lopunny hugged Sean.
As the Lopunny then put Sean down and went to Houndoom and Machoke, Jennifer walked up to Sean and they both left the bar.
Outside, a Cubone ran up to them crying.
"Mommy. Lost. Forest", he said as he pointed at Kangaskon's store
"So how long is she gone" asked Jennifer.
"A-an hour. Mommy never long gone for berries. I worry."
Jennifer nodded. "Do you know where she went?"
"I-in the Sudowoodo Forest."
"Then let's go" said Jennifer as she picked up the Cubone and carried him on her back as they went with Sean into the Forest.
