Welcome back. I'm hoping this was worth the wait. Turns out writers block is more difficult to overcome especially more if you get easily distracted as I do. aside from the writers block, going back to the original, seeing if I can make the family injuries more survivable, what medical equipment can be used to treat said wounds and other factors delayed this. So without delaying this any further, let's continue with the fanfic. (I did not write the orphaned fanfic. the writer is professor ass spiders. Rio is owned by 20th century Fox/fox animation studios.)
Darkness.
That was all Tiago could see, Pure darkness.
He tried to move but he couldn't.
He tried to speak but no voice came out.
He couldn't hear.
All his body could do was see.
It was pitch black. He can't see anything, not even his body. All he could see was the darkness surrounding him.
Was he dead? And if he was dead, what did he die from?
The darkness seemed to answer him as suddenly, light broke through the darkness.
Tiago squinted as the light overwhelmed him. It was too bright to see anything.
He couldn't see anything.
It was just him and the light.
He can see his beak, his wings and his talons.
He can finally move.
He can now hear sounds.
He heard the familiar sounds of the lullaby his mom sang to him when he couldn't sleep.
The light was dimming.
The sounds of screaming replaced the lullaby. A monstrous roar overlapped with the screams.
Tiago instincts told him to run, But he was stuck. Something was holding him down. When he looked down. He saw wings.
No matter how much he struggled, the wings weren't moving, it had a tight grip on his talons.
The screams were getting closer.
He was going to die.
Without thinking. He bit on the left wing Hard. the left wing let go of one of his talons. He used his freed talon to claw at the other one.
It wasn't letting go.
The monster was getting closer.
With some effort, the wing let go of the talon it was holding.
As soon as he was freed, he flew as the monster caught the wings instead.
He kept flying towards the light, the lullaby playing.
He managed to embrace the light. Memories of him and his sisters playing tag, learning about how levers work with his father and flying with his mother till finally.
Tiago woke up.
Tiago slowly opened his eyes. He examined the area. Machines, medical equipment were in the room, sounds of walking, paper and talking were heard as well.
Tiago knew this room.
He was in the infirmary.
But why? Tiago thought. Why was he here, and where are his parents, his siblings? Where are the-
His thoughts were interrupted when memories of what happened replayed in his head. His eyes widened as everything including the crushing sound of Bone played in his head. He got up and looked around, hoping to see his parents or sisters.
There was no one here aside from him.
"Mom?" Tiago hoping for an answer.
"Dad?" Tiago cried, hoping his dad would come through the door and assure him that everyone is fine.
"Bia? Carla?"
Tears formed when no answer came. He was panicking. This wasn't happening. This wasn't happening. This has to be a dream. It has to be, there's no way that he was the only one that survived. He didn't just became a orph-
"Tiago?" Tiago turned to see Rafeal.
Tiago ran up to him and cried.
"It's okay. It's going to be ok." Rafeal knew it wouldn't be ok. I mean, Tiago had to watch a damn predator torture his sister and he nearly died. If he and other birds didn't charge in and force the harpies off. Well, he would have had to bury them alongside other families that were killed by these monsters.
"They're dead." Tiago sobbed. Rafeal dreaded this moment. Showing him what the harpies did to them.
"No. they're still alive."
Tiago stopped crying. "What?"
"They're alive. Just" he had to think on how to tell him but no words can truly tell the true picture.
"I think it's better that I show you"Tiago tried to fly but his body screamed in protest. He looked at his body and noticed stitches across his body. A bandage was around his left wing, meaning he could still fly but he's grounded for the moment.
Rafeal probably should have told him but it slipped after seeing Tiago calling for his family.
"I think we should wait on seeing your family until you're comfortable." Tiago hates to admit it but Rafeal's right, so he nodded.
"Ok. Come see me at the windows when you're ready." Good thing, Rafeal told Eva and his kids that he'll be busy today or he will have to leave Tiago and that's the last thing he wants to do.
Hours had passed before Tiago got more comfortable with the stitches on his body. He called for Rafeal and he's waiting for Rafael to come over. While he was waiting for Rafael, the harpy attack began to replay in his head.
Why did the male torture his sister?
Is Carla going to die?
Why did he stood there? Watching his family get torn like paper. Why did he sit in place watching as Carla is slowly being crushed to death.
A cold breeze interrupted any further thoughts. He looked around.
"Hello?"
The cold was still there. But now, he felt like he felt being watched.
He turned around and saw a shadowy figure near the door.
The figure ran to the right.
He walked towards the door to get a closer look. Tiago turn his head to the right hallway.
The figure stood there. After closer inspection, he realized it's a bird and it was missing a wing and there were massive lacerations on them. Despite this, the figure looked familiar, they looked like.
"Tiago, what are you doing staring at the hallway?" Rafael asked.
"Yo-you don't see it?"
"See what"
"The bird where i'm looking a-"
The bird was gone.
"Tiago, are you ok?"
Tiago was silent.
"Yeah, I'm fine Uncle Rafael." Rafael thankfully decided not to push any further.
"So, ready to see your family." Both of them knew they were not ready to see them but Tiago had to make sure they're alive.
"Yes" Tiago responded
But there were multiple questions on his mind.
Are they ok?
Did all of them survive?
Why was Bia in the hallway?
It took some time to get in the room they were in without drawing attention to themselves but they got here.
Rafael left him here saying that it's for the best. However, Tiago overheard him saying that Carla was still with the doctors.
The slow crushing sounds of bone and the screams of agony Carla gave while being crushed were still playing in his head.
Tiago was anxious to see them. He wanted to know if they were alive.
The scent of blood filled Tiago's nostrils. With the fact that Carla was still with the people that helped his mother, that means they were probably the last to be worked on.
The window was open. Usually this wouldn't mean anything to other birds but to Tiago, it tells him one thing. Grandma Linda was here. If she was here and left the window open plus the scent of blood. It told him one thing. His family was seriously injured.
He got to the window and managed to get inside.
He started to look for his family.
He managed to find the heart monitors. The heart monitors in The sanctuary make no sound. No beeps, no rhythm. Nothing but the sight of lines going up and down. It took him a while to climb up to the monitors.
Good thing his dad taught him and his sisters on how to walk and climb in case they can't fly.
As soon as he got to the top of the monitors, he saw his family.
The family had bandages covering various parts of their body.
Tiago climbed back down and got closer to them. Tiago regretted doing that as soon as he saw them.
Blu had a bandage covering the right side of his face and his leg had multiple stitches on them. there was a machine on blu's chest. The machine had a pump that seemed to raise up and down as it synched with his breathing. Tiago remembered one of the harpies crushing his chest, meaning the machine was probably helping him breathe.
Jewel had multiple stitches on her body. Bandages covered her entire neck with plastic tubes going under it. The doctors were apparently focused more on the neck since he can still see blood on his mothers, cerulean feathers.
Out of all of them, Bia was the worst. There were Bandages and plastic tubes on her body, And by the looks of it, they were focused on The rest of the family since the wing did not have a cast. The wing was twisted in a grotesque way, feathers were painted metallic red and in some places, there were no feathers at all. Showing only skin.
Tears were forming in Tiago's eyes and Rafael wasn't here to comfort him.
He let the tears drop down.
Today was going to be wonderful. But they are alive. His sisters are alive. His parents are alive.
So, why. Why do they look like they are dead?
I was originally going to keep it a surprise but I decide against it. For anyone who read the original fanfic. Yes the ghosts from the original are returning, In fact you're going to see one of them in the next chapter. Until then, have a good day.
