I'm back! It's been a bit since I've updated! I've got more post Jurassic World stuff in the works, and I've been working on Jurassic Park too. Along with editing Don't Take Peace for Granted.

Emily was on her lunch break, and halfway through a Tupperware container of leftover enchiladas when her phone rang. Her father was seated on the other side of Emily's desk, halfway through his own container of enchiladas.

He stood, "I'll let you get that."

Emily nodded, swallowed her bite, and reached for her phone. Her father took his container and slipped out, shutting her office door behind him. Once glance at her phone screen revealed a familiar name.

Tim Murphy.

With a sigh, Emily answered the phone, "Hey Tim."

"So, Emily, I was just talking with Ellie, and she said that InGen offered you a job."

Emily sighed again, "Yeah, they did."

"Please tell me you turned them down." Tim sounded a little desperate.

"I," Emily braced herself for some scolding, "I did at first. But I accepted it two days ago."

Tim was dead silent for so long that Emily checked to make sure he hadn't hung up, "Tim?"

"Why," Tim's voice broke, "Why would you go back Emmy?"

"I'm tired of being afraid Timmy. And I believe that going back will help me fix that."

"That doesn't sound very likely. If anything, it'll make it worse."

"It's too late now. Besides, I may as well give it a try."

Tim falls silent for a moment again, then asks, "How on Earth did you convince your dad to let you go?"

"I just kinda told him I was going, and that he couldn't really stop me."

Tim laughs on the other end of the phone, "Typical Grant stubbornness."

"Of course it is Timmy. It's genetic."

"Let's hope you never have kids then. We don't need mini Emilys and Alans running around."

Emily leaned back in her chair, "We'll just have to see. Can you let Lex know that I'll be calling her later?"

"Sure thing. And Emmy, just be careful please."

"I will Timmy. I promise."

Tim hangs up, and despite the somewhat worrying end to the conversation, Tim has succeeded in getting Emily to smile a little. Just like he always does.

Emily was standing in front of a door, two coffees in her hands. The coffees were a peace offering of sorts, and the door had, 'Dr. Billy Brennan, Field Specialist' printed on it. She'd been putting off speaking to him for at least a week, and she honestly couldn't blame him for getting mad at her. Besides, she had enough relationship issues with Casey, she didn't need Billy to stay on that list.

So she knocks on the door with her knuckles, careful not to spill the coffee.

"Come in!" Billy's voice calls from inside.

Emily uses her elbow to turn the handle and pushes the door open with her shoulder, "Hey."

Billy looks up from a stack of paperwork, and his face falls a little, "Hey Emily."

There's a moment of awkward silence, which Emily attempts to fill by setting one of the coffees on his desk, "Look, Billy-"

At the same time, he says, "Emily, I-"

They lock eyes, and Emily is unable to keep from snorting a laugh. And after a second, Billy begins laughing as well. Emily smiles, "I see we had the same idea."

Billy nods, also grinning, "You brought coffee though."

"I suppose I did." Emily braces her hands on his desk.

Billy sighs, "About what happened on Monday, I shouldn't have gotten so mad. I guess I'm just worried that something will happen, and you'll be caught in the middle of it."

"And I probably shouldn't have sprung that on you like that. Besides, if I get there and I don't like it, I can always quit. Dad's already said that he'll book me a ticket back on a moment's notice."

"I'm surprised he's letting you go at all."

"Well, he can't exactly stop me."

Billy chuckles, taking a sip of his coffee, "I suppose he can't."

Emily turns around and hops up to sit on his desk, "So are we good then?"

"Yeah. Just promise me you'll get out of there if anything starts to look bad."

"I will."

They both fall silent, and Emily can't help from smiling as she sips from her coffee. At least she's only got one other issue in her life besides Jurassic World. But just as Emily is about to suggest that they both get back to work, Billy hesitantly says, "So, I talked to Casey yesterday."

Emily stiffens, "And?"

"He said that you broke up with him."

"I did."

"You wanna talk about it?"

"Billy, no offense, but if I'm going to talk to anyone about it," Emily hopped off the desk and turned to face him, "It's not going to be you."

He puts down his coffee and holds his hands up in defense, "Just figure I'd check."

Emily huffs good-naturedly and rolls her eyes, "Well, I appreciate the concern."

"In that case, we should probably get back to work Doc."

Emily heads for the door, "Don't forget that we have those speeches next week. And don't call me that!"

"Sure thing," Billy smirks, "Doc."

Emily frowns at her clock. It reads, '3:34 AM'. There's no way she's going back to sleep now, not with yet another nightmare. So, she flips the covers back and climbs out of bed. The paleontologist doesn't even bother with turning on any lights as she heads for her living room.

She opens her curtains, revealing the pitch-black night with large flakes of snow drifting down to cover her backyard. She'd have to shovel her driveway in the morning. It's peaceful, and beautiful and another reminder that she is not being chased through a jungle by velociraptors.

Emily settled in on her couch, wrapping up in a blanket. She nearly dozed off several times over the next few hours. But the thought of the tapping of sickle shaped claws and high-pitched screeches jolted her awake every single time.

Around six she decided that she may as well get ready for the day, even if it was the weekend. A quick shower and a plate of scrambled eggs latter, Emily was tugging on her snow boots when her cell phone rang. The paleontologist tugged them off with a sigh and grabbed her phone, answering it.

"Emily Cate Grant, what the hell do you think you're doing?!"

Emily winced at Ian's angry voice, "Accepting a job offer."

"At Jurassic World?! That is the most colossally terrible idea ever."

"Look, Ian, I have been told that what seems like a billion times and I've been up since 3:30. Can we skip the lecture?"

Ian falls silent for a moment, "I, uh, suppose I can't stop you from going. But I am not happy about it."

"I know. But if Dad, Billy and Tim are letting me go, then I'm sure you can."

"How on Earth did you convince your father?"

"I told him I was going, and my reasons for going." Emily sinks into the chair in her entryway, "And that he couldn't stop me."

Ian chuckles, "That damned Grant stubbornness."

"That's about exactly what Tim said."

"Good for him. Now why have you been up since 3:30? Nightmares?"

Emily pinches the bridge of her nose, then slides her hand up to rest her forehead in it, "What else? They always pick back up when I'm stressed."

"And you certainly sound stressed."

"The island isn't even half of it. I broke up with Casey."

"That's, uh, real sad Emily, but you'd better call Ellie if you want comfort for that."

Emily snorts a laugh, "I know Ian."

"Good. Now, I've, uh, got a meeting to make in ten minutes."

"Then I'll let you go, I've got to shovel my driveway anyways."

"Make sure you call me again before you leave for that damned island."

"I will. Now go, or you'll be late."

"I'm going, I'm going."

Emily spends her entire lunchbreak on the phone with Ellie, who is upset and worried. The paleobotanist also spends half that time consoling Emily about Casey, though Emily thinks she's doing just fine on her own. And as nice as it is to hear from Ellie, and spend some time talking to her, the last thing Emily wants to do is sit through another worried phone call.

Which is exactly what happens.

She's barely set foot in the back parking lot of the museum when her phone rings, and she has to fish it out of her messenger bag. The caller id identifies it as Lex. Emily shifts a stack of files to her other hand and answers.

"Hey Lex."

"You better explain what's going on, and fast, or I'm calling your father instead." Lex sounds worried and maybe even angry.

Emily sighs, "I'm going to work at Jurassic World in May, and I broke up with Casey."

Lex is silent for a moment, then shakily says, "I really hope you have good reason for doing both of those things Emily, or I'm sending Tim to knock some sense into you."

"I have reasons, I don't know how good you'll think they are."

"Start with your ex-boyfriend." Lex puts on what Tim has affectionately dubbed her, 'business tone'. And Emily knows she only puts it on outside of work when she's worried and doesn't want to show it.

"He was being pushy and overprotective, and it's just felt off for a long time."

"Have you talked to Ellie about it?"

"Yes Lex, I've talked to Ellie." Emily unlocks her truck, dumps her stuff on the passenger seat and starts her truck.

"Good, call me if you need to talk about it and can't stand Ellie's fussing. Now explain Jurassic World."

"I think it well help me overcome my fears, because I'm damn tired of being afraid."

Lex is silent again, her voice soft when she finally does speak, "So am I. But I don't think I'd be brave enough to go back."

Emily sighs, "I don't know if I will be either."

"You were always the bravest of us."

"I don't know about brave Lex. Maybe the most stubborn."

"That's true. But you are brave for going back. And if anyone can do it, you can."

I know that was a lot of phone calls. And I apologize for that. Next chapter, Emily will be heading for the island. So stay tuned for that!
