A moment later, the doctor walked in with the chart before grabbing the round spin chair and sitting in front of me.
"So, I had my own suspicions when you began telling me all of your symptoms. Now, before I tell you what the results are, do you have any other symptoms you left out?" He asked.
"Like what?" I asked, frowning.
"Frequent urination. Sore back, breasts, exhaustion…" He listed drifting off.
"How—?" I asked, as my eyes grew watery.
The doctor nodded, before sighing and leaning forward. "Miss. Barton, you are almost eight weeks pregnant." He finally said. "Now, I can prescribe you some medicine for your nausea. Iron and some folic acid since you seem to be quite a bit low on iron." He said.
I nodded.
That explained the exhaustion and headaches.
"Do you need a referral to an OB/GYN?" He asked as he scribbled down some notes.
"No, actually, I have an ob/gyn. Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes, a significant amount of HCG is present in your blood and urine. Based on the levels, we can tell you're almost two months pregnant." He explained.
I sat there trying to wrap my head around his words.
"Do you have any more questions?" He asked me, and extended his hand to offer me the prescription.
"N-no. Er, thank you..." I shook my head.
The doctor nodded, before slowly standing up, and leaving the room.
As soon as that door closed, the tears came.. So many questions swarmed into my head as I sat there, yet I had no answers.
It took me a few minutes before I could calm myself down.
When I finally gathered the strength to stand and leave, I grabbed my bag, and exited the room, making my way towards the bathroom to wash my face.
Bucky met me in the lobby as promised.
"So, what's the verdict, Button?" He asked as I finally walked out.
"I have a slight iron deficiency, and a stomach bug. It should go away on its own… I just— have to— go pick up this medicine at the— pharmacy, and I will feel better." I said, looking around the room to avoid looking at him.
"Are you sure? You still look sort of pale…" he commented worriedly.
"I— um— yeah. Don't worry about it. I have already made the follow up appointment, it's after the holiday weekend. Let's get out of here." I replied as I pulled him with me towards the exit.
Once outside, I let him go and made my way to the pharmacy that was located two buildings over.
"Where are you going, Button?" I heard him call as I kept walking.
"To the pharmacy. Where else?" I mumbled to myself, as I kept walking, shaking my head.
I knew he was following me, so I made my way towards the pharmacy, handing in the prescription.
The pharmacist looked it over before typing a few keys into the computer.
"It'll be ready in twenty-five minutes." The pharmacist said.
I nodded before heading to the vitamin section of the store, grabbing a basket as I walked.
"So, what are we doing here?" Bucky asked as I made my way through the aisle.
"Well, I am here waiting on my prescription, you are here bugging me." I replied, as I picked up a bottle of calcium before setting it back down.
Damn it, how was I going to get the prenatal vitamins with him on my ass?
"Oh come on, Bunny… don't be like that. I'm just worried about you…" He said, throwing an arm around my shoulder.
I ignored him and continued walking through the aisle, grabbing a jar of multivitamins, and vitamin C gummies before heading to get some saltine crackers, ginger ale, and Sprite.
"Is that supposed to help with the vomiting?" Bucky asked me, as he continued to follow me.
"Yes, and so is the medicine I got from the doctor." I said as he dropped a bottle of antacids into my basket.
I lifted it and turned to look up at him with a lifted brow. "Antacids?" I asked.
"Yeah, I've been having heartburn, and stomach problems for two weeks too." He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck.
I gaped up at him, dropping the bottle into the basket and reaching for the mylanta and dropping two bottles in as well.
"What the fuck is that for?" He asked.
"This will help us with the upset stomach…" I said with an eye roll.
"I've been drinking Pepto Bismol… the aftertaste makes me nauseous though…" He muttered.
"How long have you had that?" I asked as I grabbed some fruit juice and made my way towards the cashier.
"I don't really know… at first it was sort of like indigestion, and then it turned to throwing up after eating some foods. That's why I said I hardly care if I caught the bug you have. I probably already have it…" He muttered, with a shrug as we went to pay.
I shook my head at him before turning to look at the teen manning the cash register, interrupting her.
"Do you need bags?" She asked.
"Yes, please." I replied with a smile.
"Why don't you go get your medicine and I'll pay for this?" Bucky suggested, pulling out his wallet.
"It's alright, I can pay…" I muttered, pulling out my own wallet.
"Will this be all you're getting today?" She asked us timidly.
"Yes." Bucky said, he moved in front of me.
I grumbled, dropping my wallet into my bag before crossing my arms over my chest.
"Stop your pouting and go get your medicine, Bunny." he said as he inserted the card into the pin pad and put his pin in.
"Fine." I muttered, turning away.
"You two make a cute couple…" she said, amused.
"Thank you." Bucky replied as he took the bag.
I rolled my eyes before grabbing one of the panda bears with the big blue eyes and throwing it over my shoulder before taking off in a run.
"You little shit..." He called after me.
I ran until I reached the pharmacy, breathing a little harder than before.
