Cool Party II
Chapter 4: A Mother-Daughter Talk
The party was in full swing at the Shortman home. Music was playing, people were dancing, eating snacks or chatting with friends and everyone was having fun.
Including the "chaperones", whom are Andy's own parents, who were dancing together while everyone else was having fun.
"This is a great party..."Lisa said as she was bopping to the music.
"Thanks again for inviting us, Auntie Helga..."Logan said after taking some chips to snack on.
"Of course, everyone is invited to this party..."Helga said to her niece and nephew before going back to dancing with her husband.
They weren't the only one's dancing as Megan, Kiki, Janet, Mindy and Keisha's little brother were all dancing among themselves, while their older siblings were having fun.
"This rocks..."Adam said before he swallowed a burger.
"Yeah...definitely..."Keisha said before she started break dancing.
"Yeah, this party seems pretty cool..."Kiara said, smirking.
"I told you that it'd rock..."Andy said, feeling happy.
However, they suddenly heard the doorbell ring and they went to answer it.
To their surprise, they saw a bunch of other kids...such as Bonnie, Maritza, Rex and a few others.
"Hello, Andrew..."Rex said in a high society tone.
"Uh...hey..."Andy said, looking surprised.
"Uh...I thought you guys were at Courtney's party..."Andy questioned.
Bonnie and Maritza both rolled their eyes.
"We left, obviously..."Martiza said.
"It...wasn't as the invitation described..."Rex said, being too "posh" to actually describe it the way he wants to.
"Yeah, all she did was brag about her new dress, her accessories and her vacation in Europe a million times. Big whoop, mine are better anyway..."Bonnie said, sounding spoiled.
"It wasn't exactly...up to code...So, we wanted to know if you wouldn't mind a few extra guests?..."Rex said, trying to be polite.
Andy seemed surprised that they left Courtney's party but wasn't going to say no, even to them.
"Sure...everyone's invited to this party..."Andy said, not having it in him to make them leave...even if they can be snobs at time.
"Thank you, that's very admirable of you..."Rex said, still in his high society tone.
Rx and the others joined the party and surprisingly enough, they were pretty pleasant company. They behaved and even mingled with others they would deem as below them.
"Whoa...I didn't think I'd see the day that a Smyth-Higgins would come to a less than fancy party..."Kiara said, still not believing it.
"Me neither..."Andy said.
"It really IS better than Miss Priss's dumb "cool party", huh..."Kiara said, looking pleased.
"It has to be if her own guests came here..."Andy said as he chose to move on to another topic. "So, wanna dance?..."He asked.
"Sure, I'd love to..."Kiara said as the two shared a platonic dance with each other.
However, 15 minutes later, when they were having a snack break, the door bell rang again and when they went to answer it, Andy was especially surprised to see who was here
"Nate?..."Andy questioned.
"Hey Andy...uh...room for one more?..."Nate asked sheepishly as he rubbed his arm.
Meanwhile
At the Gammelthorpse home
Rhonda had just return home due to forgetting one of her many credit cards and not wanting to risk someone finding it and getting any ideas. So, she came back to get it.
However as soon as she entered, she heard crying.
She followed the sound and soon saw her daughter and only child, Courtney, who was crying her little eyes out.
"This night has been a complete disaster!..."Courtney said as she continued crying intensely.
The mother stopped what she was doing and her maternal instincts kicked in. She dropped everything and ran to her child.
"Courtney? Darling?!..."A Rhonda said as she ran to her.
Courtney stopped sobbing long enough to see her mother.
"Mummy..."Courtney said, wiping a tear from her eye.
"Darling, what's wrong?..."Rhonda asked in concern.
"Everything!..."Courtney said as she latched on to her, still crying.
"There, there...it's alright..."Rhonda said as she tried to comfort her child.
After a few minutes, Courtney stopped crying long enough to speak.
"What happened? I thought you were hosting your party tonight..."Rhonda asked.
"My party got ruined, that's what happened! Andy threw his own party and all my guests left me to go to his...even Nate..."Courtney said, looking upset.
Rhonda heard this and seemed surprised.
"W-What?..."Rhonda let out while her daughter continued.
"I don't get why he would do this to me...or why Nate would leave too. Just because I didn't invite our other friends..."Courtney said, still looking upset.
"Uh...who did you invite to your party?..."Rhonda had to ask, needing to be sure about something.
"I only invited the cool kids...Andy, Nate, Rex, some sixth graders and the rest of the coolest kids at school..."Courtney explained before getting upset. "But Andy rejected my invitation just because I didn't invite Kiara or the rest of our geeky friends and even threw his own party without even inviting me...my party guests abandoned me and even Nate left too...saying it was all my fault everyone left..."She said, looking upset.
Rhonda was feeling major deja vu's right now.
"This is just like what happened back then..."She thought, not liking this.
When her daughter asked for permission to throw her party, she gave it and assumed that she wouldn't make the same mistakes she made...but it seems that history would repeat itself.
"Courtney...princess...I think you and I need a little talk..."Rhonda said, trying to be gentle here.
"What? Why?..."Courtney asked, wiping another tear from her eye.
Rhonda sighed and tried to be patient here.
She might have matured a lot over the years, especially after she became a mother but she still considered herself posh, well dressed and dignified and her daughter was very much like her in that aspect.
However, even she knew mistakes she made that her daughter is doing...something that needs to be corrected.
"Darling...I understand that things didn't go as you planned tonight..."Rhonda began.
"I just don't understand how they didn't want to stay..."Courtney said, trying to dry tears.
"Well, I think I might have an idea..."Rhonda said in an uneasy way.
"What do you mean, Mummy?..."Courtney asked.
Rhonda sighed as she knew that this will be history repeating itself but she has to speed things up so her daughter won't cry anymore.
"When I was your age, I threw a cool party too...I wanted it to be the biggest and best social event of the year, so I only invited the cool kids too...but everyone left my party too because everyone was having more fun at another party and my friends were mad at me for not inviting them because I called them geeks and dorks..."Rhonda said, looking guilty.
"Really? You did the same thing?..."Courtney asked.
Rhonda nodded.
"Yeah...it seems we're more alike than we thought...even down to how we wanted to throw our parties..."Rhonda said.
Courtney wiped her tears as she continued to listen.
"Your aunt Nadine told me practically the same thing Nate told you...like mother, like son I guess...anyway...I realized that they were right and I had no one to blame but myself for how things turned out..."She said, sadly.
"I wasn't being nice to my friends and I hurt their feelings when I put them on the Geek list...and the people I invited weren't very impressed with my party..."She said, hating that memory. "It's no wonder they left..."She muttered.
Courtney heard this and began to feel guilty.
"I didn't mean to hurt their feelings...I didn't think they'd turn on me like this..."Courtney said. "I...I just wanted Andy and everyone else to think I was cool and stuff..."She said, now feeling like she's insulted them.
In hindsight, it was kinda insulting putting someone on a list with so-called geeks, so she can't blame them for feeling that way.
"I wanted everyone to think I was cool too but I didn't realize how wrong I did it..."Rhonda said, sighing. "I know you didn't mean to insult them but you should have thought this through..."Rhonda said.
"You're right..."Courtney said, now feeling guilty over how she treated her friends.
"It'll be okay, trust me. You're a Lloyd and we don't let anything get our ways, even our mistakes..."Her mother said, patting her daughter on the head.
Rhonda hugged the girl, comforting the loss. Courtney returned it eagerly, feeling better, a bit.
As the two parted, Courtney wondered what was next. She still felt bad for what she did and wanted to see if there was any way to fix this.
"Mummy...is there anyway I can do to make things better?..."Courtney asked, wanting to make right with her friends.
Her mother smiled at her.
"I think I have an idea..."Rhonda said as she went to help her daughter redeem herself to her friends.
Maybe it wasn't too late to save the night, after all.
