Lucas woke up in a sudden snort and arose from his napping spot, just to see the sun had set.
''Oh no.'' He muttered. ''Dad's gonna FLIP!''
But on the way down from the hill, he felt the same strange illness from yesterday. Except..
It was getting worse.
A sudden spike of pain struck throughout his body and Lucas was forced to his knees by his aching body and prickling skin. Taking heavy breath and trying to regain his composure, he got up so he could hurry home. But as soon he regained his focus he was captivated by the pale light surrounding him. He looked up to find its source, and stared straight at the full moon adorning the night sky. At that moment, he felt the same as in his dream last night. All pain, though he still felt it, was completely forgotten.
With his gaze fixated on the moon, his body started to violently tense and change.
All the bones in his body slightly grew or shrank and readjusted them selves, to fit a more semi quadrupedal body. Lucas cringing his eyes shut and screaming in agony started to violently tug in his shirt, to cope with the pain. His feet bursting out of the shoe snout and his nails and teeth thickening and sharpening into claws and fangs, ripping his shirt to tethers. He couldn't keep himself standing and fell down on all four. His tail bone on his lower pelvis growing new vertebrae and ripping through his pants, and growing into a tail. His face contorting into a snout and ears became pointy, screaming twisting into loud growling an canine whimpering. The prickling in his skin reached its peak as thick fur covered his body, particularly on his hands, feet, chest and cheeks.
All this happening in mere 10 seconds.
Lucas, shaking and breathing heavily, was recovering from such a sudden and quick transformation.
He cautiously got up on two, and took in everything around him, using his new senses. It wasn't just his body that altered. All the pain and agony from before, he completely forgot. All the worries that plagued him all day, gone. All those complex human emotions like regret, guilt and self pity, he didn't care. He was filled with a new energy unlike anything he ever felt. He looked up into the night sky and saw the full moon, hanging majestically in the sky. Lucas, taking a deep breath, let out a long loud howl, using all the air in his lugs, filling him with an almost euphoric sensation.
That's not all he wanted. He wanted to run.
He wanted to hunt
Lucas sprinted out of sunset cemetery on all four and headed towards sunshine forest. He ran and ran, with all his might, feeling just like back when he played tag with his brother. Except he was faster then ever.
Trees and shadows zooming by, heart pounding in his chest, the constant rhythm of hands and feet colliding with the ground.
He really wished he had someone to run with him. But being alone was fine.
He reached the river banks and stopped to catch his breath and have a drink. When he finished, that was when noticed all the new and exciting smells that was in the air around him. He got up on two it and took it all in with his new canine nose.
Sweet pine, fresh water, territorial markings, flower fragrances, animal feces, something decomposing somewhere! There were so many smells, He didn't know what to do.
He was captivated for several minutes, until he heard something rustling in a nearby bush. Instinctively Lucas got down on all four and low to the ground, and hurried over to nearby trees, shaded from the moonlight. Out of the bushes came a large rat, scurrying about with a nut in it's mouth. It didn't see Lucas, but he saw it.
And he was hungry.
He never took his eyes off the rat, instead letting his other senses guide him closer. The rat, fat, contempt and nibbling on the nut it stole from a squirrel, was confident in there being no predators around. Suddenly a small sound, deaf to the human ear, happened from when one of Lucas's claws scratched a tiny rock. The rat darted up. Vigilant.
They both made eye contact for less then a second, and burst off into a chase.
Lucas vastly out sped the poor rat and caught it with his jaws. Then violently shook it, breaking its neck. Feeling the rat twitch in his mouth, tasting the blood dripping through mouth and teeth, the heavy breaths and heart beat from the chase.
Was exhilarating.
He immediately started to eat his freshly caught snack, meat and bones and all, and afterwards started to track the area for possible meals. Perhaps something larger and faster so the fun chasing could last a little longer. And he knew were he could find such an animal. the base of Mt. Oriander.
With a brisk walking pace, he hurried over there with his Senses perceptive for anything interesting.
At the base of Mt. Oriander, Lucas shot up, with all his attention, when he smelled something awful and familiar.
Smog.
That smell was always caused by them. The thickly cladded pig-masked ones. Much more tense, Lucas aggressively tracked the smell of smog. He had to know were they were.
Hearing the sounds of distressed animals he knew he was getting close.
From a hill, there they were. four of them. two standing guard, two tugging animals into their infernal machinery.
His desire to hunt was no longer driven by fun and curiosity. Now it was hatred. Hatred for them and their machinery. Hatred for that fat pathetic blob they call their leader. And hatred for all the misery and anguish they caused, while mocking their victims.
He moved closer.
The poor animals screeching with fear, rung in Lucas's ears. Sometimes memories rung with.
The pained roar of mighty beasts turned mad.
The dying cries of a woman and a boy.
The suffering chimera, pleading for deaths release.
He was close now.
He hid in a bush close to one of the guards, and stepped on a branch to alert it. As expected, the guard came closer with gun drawn and pointed. Lucas knew of their malice, so he started to whimper like a scared puppy. The guard confidently lowered his gun and turned around to alert the others. But before it could even say anything, Lucas pounced.
He knocked his prey prone and grabbed its ankle with his powerful jaws and sharp teeth and dragged it into the bush, kicking and screaming.
Concealed by the bush, He proceeded to get on its back and pin it by the head and shoulder. It was scrambling desperately to get free. How cute.
Lucas ripped the hard cover from its head, revealing the frightened human face underneath. But he didn't care about that. His attention was on the exposed neck.
He clenched his jaws tightly around its neck and began to violently tug and twist, growling furiously. Terrified for its life, it shrieked the top of its lungs.
CRACK!
It went silent. Still. Only the slow desperate and dying breathing remained
Exhilaration far grander then killing a mere rat jolted several times through his body. he took in every moment.
"J-Jordan?"
A female voice. Quivering with fear.
Lucas looked up through the bush. the other three had drawn their guns and pointed at the bush he was in. The other guard cautiously got closer, but the moment it showed hesitation and glanced back at the other two, Lucas pounced once more. His targets gunshot narrowly miss him and the other twos hit bulls eye. Despite being hit twice he didn't stop, knocking his new prey prone, pinning it by the chest. Again, he ripped the helmet off, and this time went for the throat, tearing it out with ease.
He turned his attention to the remaining two and slowly got off the bloody dying one, bearing his bloody teeth and growling.
But before Lucas could do anything, one of them quickly threw something at his face, blinding him. being busy getting stuff out of his face he heard them running towards their weird flying machine, and when he could see again they took off.
Lucas howled loud and menacingly telling them to never come back!
How funny such vile and cruel creatures are such cowards. though not surprising.
The adrenaline started to fade and he felt his stomach grumble at the fresh blood in the air. He went for the one in the bush, it seemed bigger, and tore into his meal.
Only half of his meal was left, but the thrill of the hunt was over and it had gotten cold. Still a good meal and the cool night air around him, was drowsing enough to make him yawn with contempt. Tired, he went off to a good sleeping spot and got comfy. He took one last look at the moon. But instead of being filled with energy, he was lulled to sleep. Almost like being tugged to bed.
Kind of reminding him of..
