I made a chapter 2
Broken, Beaten, Scarred
The world was coming to the end of a major threat. Following the defeat of Muzan Kibutsuji, what was left of the demon slayer corps returned to the ashes of headquarters. Their numbers had dwindled significantly. They even lost many Hashira to the upper moons. Of those that were lost, (Spoilers for those who don't know, skip if you wish)
Tamayo was killed in her attempt to weaken Muzan.
Muichiro Tokito was killed in battle against Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo.
Genya Shinazugawa was wounded assisting the Hashira with Kokushibo, he later died of his injuries.
Gyomei Himejima lost his leg to Muzan before dying of blood loss.
Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro both fell to Muzan. Both declaring their love for each other before death.
Shinobu Kochou sacrificed herself to poison Doma, the demon that killed her sister Kanae. She succeeded.
All of these people were heroes and would always be remembered by the Demon Slayer Corps. The only issue now lied in the fact that headquarters was gone. Kagaya Ubuyashiki destroyed himself, his family, and his home to injure Muzan. They had no real home anymore. Those who survived were left with nothing.
Tanjiro had his bum left arm wrapped around Nezuko and the other wrapped around Kanao. Both girls refused to let anyone near him. Inosuke and Zenitsu followed their friends in a still depressed state. They may have defeated Muzan, but they lost a lot of people along the way. Tanjiro himself was almost lost.
Tanjiro had turned demonic after Muzan infected him with his blood and fused with his body. It was terrifying to see. Everyone knew that he had to be taken care of, but two refused to kill him. Nezuko tried her hardest to bring him back. Kanao was the one to cure him with Shinobu's remedy Eventually, the duo succeeded and drove Muzan out of Tanjro. The only downside was that Tanjiro's right eye was blind. It turned a sickly pink color.
Kanao had lost sight in one of her eyes due to overuse of her enhanced sight. The strain was too much. Her once deep purple eye became a lighter shade, but still beautiful. A new scar ran horizontal across her stomach now due to Tanjiro's bone whips. Although he wasn't in control of his movement, he still blamed himself and couldn't look her in the face.
Nezuko had returned to human thanks to Tamayo's remedy. She was lucky to walk away with no wounds that hadn't already healed. Especially after her bother had almost killed her.
Zenitsu was mournful of those he'd come to befriend. His fear of losing those he cared for was strong, but it was now a driving motivation to get stronger. Since Nezuko was no longer a demon, he would need to become stronger to protect her.
Inosuke was angry. He wasn't strong enough to save his comrades in arms. He lost friends to those monsters. He was with Shinobu when she was devoured. Raising his head up a bit, he realized something. Somebody had to tell Aoi about her death. The three girls would also be devastated.
Giyu, Sanemi, and Tengen were all very quiet on the way back. This is what they've trained for their entire lives and now it was over. They may have won the war, but it really didn't feel like they won.
As the group approached the Butterfly Manor, the three once Hashira returned to the remains of their old headquarters.
The group of five stood silently at the gate. It was open, but they all knew this place as the home of Shinobu. And now, it was Kanao's and Aoi's.
They walked and/or limped inside to find the three girls rushing about. All three stopped when they saw the older teens. "You're back!" They all rushed them, but stopped when they realized Shinobu wasn't there.
"Where's Shinobu?" Sumi asked.
The normally emotionless Kanao began to tear up. Tanjiro unwrapped his arm from his sister to console the girl he'd come to love.
Zenitsu spoke for them. "She sacrificed herself to save us." His voice was low and quiet.
The three girls dropped whatever they held and ran to Zenitsu and Nezuko for comfort.
Inosuke stood with his broken boar hide. The head had a slash going down the side. Nothing that couldn't be repaired but it was a reminder of how close he had come to death. As cries flowed in the room, he had one thought on his mind. Aoi.
Aoi was not in the Manor right now. Did she already know? "I'm going to find her." He stomped off using his sense of touch to feel where she was.
Tanjiro noticed his friend leave and smiled. He always knew Inosuke had a heart.
The Boar walked out the back door to find the girl he was looking for hanging clothes and humming to herself. Part of him didn't want to tell her, but he knew it must be done.
'Ahem' He cleared his throat to get her attention.
"Oh? Hey Inosuke. Welcom…" She stopped at his frown and painful eyes.
"I'm sorry Aoi."
She had no idea what he meant. Then, it clicked. Shinobu.
"She's..?" Inosuke only nodded.
Aoi dropped her basket and fell to her knees. Shinobu had basically raised her. The woman she saw as a role model and a sister was dead. Tears welled up in her eyes as she brought her hands up. As she wailed in agony, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her. Through her tears, she looked up to see Inosuke holding her.
"I'm sorry Aoi. I was too weak to save her. You probably hate me. I hate me." He stopped his self pity rant when she hugged him back.
"Stop it you boar headed idiot. I'm happy you came back. You have no idea how happy it makes me you came back to me." She shoved her head deep into his shoulder. Over the many times she'd treated him, she found herself falling for him. The two of them just held each other and let out their sorrows as the sun fell away to night.
The evening was silent and still. No one felt like eating so they all went off to bed without. No one made sounds except for some crying heard from the halls. Now that the events and adrenaline had calmed, emotions were left to reign.
Zenitsu was the first to hear distress as he had his heightened sense of hearing. Stepping out of his room, he turned to the room next to his. Nezuko. Slowly, he opened the door to find Nezuko rolling on her bed. Her eyes were squeezed shut.
Carefully, he made his way to her and sat on the bed. He placed his hand gently on her shoulder to stop her movement and woke her up.
"Huh? Oh, Zenitsu." Nezuko wiped her eyes. "Why are you here?"
"Were you having a nightmare?" He moved his hand from her shoulder to her cheek.
"Yes." She nodded and nuzzled his hand. This was some way for her to tell she was in the real world and not what she was seeing in her dream. "Can you stay here, please?"
Normally, Zenitsu would be doing literal backflips at this request, but given the context, he obliged without a word. He removed his shirt, since he slept with it off, and climbed under the blanket. In the time he spent with Tanjiro and Nezuko, he had seen her cuddle with him for comfort. The fact that she was doing the same now showed him how much she truly trusted him.
Across the Hall
Inosuke awoke to the touch of a hand on his own. Since his boar hide was on his table, he could see her deep blue eyes with his green ones. Aoi had tears in hers.
"I-I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep. I know that this is all over, but…"
"…But, it hurts to much to see what we've lost. I know." He finished. Inosuke lifted the blanket from off of him and offered her the spot next to him. In the time he'd known her, he had grown to respect her as a trainer and a friend. With that, he also grew feelings for her that he didn't understand. After a talk with Shinobu, he knew what it meant but now that Shinbou was… gone, he couldn't ask for her guidance.
Aoi slowly got under the covers with him and laid her head on his bare chest. "Thank you, Inosuke. I know everyone says you're a brute, but you're a really sweet guy."
"Of course I am. I can't be a warrior all the time. Not a good look." He wrapped his arms warmly around her back. "I want to get strong, but now there's no point. No demons to fight, no new recruits to train. It's over." His dejected tone caused her to speak up.
"Well, can you train me?"
"Huh?"
"I once trained to be a demon slayer, but I was too scared to go and fight. But if you're beside me, I think I can do it." Her cheeks flushed red at her admission.
Inosuke thought for a second. 'Hmm, a student of my own. And its Aoi.' He chuckled at his answer. "Sure, I can teach you."
The wild boar had been tamed and the stubborn girl let someone get to her heart.
The Roof
Tanjiro sat in silence as he stared at the moon. He knew that people were moving below him, he could smell it. Zenitsu and Nezuko were together and Inosuke was with Aoi. That was just fine. Right now, they all needed someone to…
"Tanjiro?" His train of thought was interrupted by the one scent he couldn't find. Kanao.
The flower swordsmen carefully made her way over to him on the roof. She pressed her hands down on his shoulder to help herself sit down. As she sat, she replaced her hands with her head on his left shoulder. "Are you okay?"
The façade was up. "Yea, I'm fine Kanao. Nothing to worry about." He still couldn't look at her.
"Then face me."
"…"
"Face me."
"…"
"Tanjiro Kamado, if you love me, you will look at me."
The way she said it, the crack in her voice, she knew he was hurting, they all were. Her arm wrapped around him. "Please, I want to see the face of the man I love. Even if it's with my one good eye."
He couldn't deny her any longer. His tear stained cheeks turned to face her. Her one deep purple eye and her light purple eye brought more tears. As to avoid seeing more, he pulled her to him with his good arm.
"I'm so sorry Kanao. I should've stopped this. I could have ended this a long time ago." That scar on her stomach was now a permanent reminder that he never deserved to love her. "I-I've ruined your precious body. I hurt you. I should commit Seppuku right here for that crime."
"NO!" She shouted. "I-I won't lose anyone else I love!" She wrapped her arms tight around him. "I can't."
They stayed that way for a long time. The cool midnight air soothed the mood a bit. It was only them in the night. No demon, no slayers, no enemies, just them. Tanjiro pulled back and looked away again.
"I'm sorry Kanao, maybe… I should go back to the mountain. Let you live here without a reminder of why…" His mind raced in circles due to her next action. The question remained, why was she kissing him? Or why did he not try and stop it?
Kanao eventually pulled away, panting from the heated kiss. "I-I won't lose you Tanjiro. You're all I have left." She looked into his left eye as her own left eye teared up.
With that, she began to cry on his shoulder. Tanjiro removed his haori and placed it so that it covered the both of them. This was a new beginning. A new future where they would be together, as one.
