There will be many scene switches and I want to try using the line feature and see how I like it.

The Great War

Tanjiro kneeled in the small clearing where his arm and eye had been healed. The day after he healed them, he'd sent a messenger crow to Kanao to tell her that he would be a few more days than expected. Part of him was sad that he'd be away from her for more than required, but this was for her in the end. So far, he'd been there for three days. Yoriichi had instructed him to absorb as much of the sun's light and energy as he could. That way, he would feel warm on the trip back enabling him to move fast.

Both the spirits of Yoriichi and Tanjuro stood back in the tree line as Tanjiro immersed himself in warmth.

"You know…" Tanjuro started. "… he looks way too much like his mother."

Yoriichi chuckled. "I've never met your wife, but I believe she was beautiful if he looks anything like her.

"Yes. Tanjiro looks like her and Nezuko, my oldest daughter, looks so much like me." Tanjuro looked at the ground. He missed his daughter dearly. The rest of his family had joined him in death and Tanjiro stood before him training, but Nezuko wasn't there at all.

The former sun hashira patted his back. "Worry not, I'm sure our dear Tanjiro will bring her back here."

"I believe he will, I'm just worried for her."

The sun rose and so did Tanjiro as his Yoriichi called him over. "Tanjiro, come here."

"Yes sir." The young Demon Slayer master stepped over to his father and the one that called him. "What's up?"

"Why do you still have the Demon Slayer Corps? There is none left." This stopped the young swordsman in his tracks.

"What do you mean?"

Yoriichi looked down on the boy. "Tanjiro, after Muzan was defeated, all those that were demons also were defeated. Did you never check this?"

"N-No I-I..."

Tanjuro laughed a little bit. "That's my boy, charging in head first without doing any research about it."

Now he was lost. Without demons, what were the Hashira for? Why were the demon slayers still around? Did Giyuu predict another war to come? As his thoughts raced, a loud sound blared over the trees. It was a siren of sorts. After a few seconds, another sound roared through the sky. Planes?

Back at the Butterfly Manor, Nezuko and Kanao were hanging some laundry out to dry while Aoi trained with Inosuke. Everything was very tranquil around the home for the time being, well except for Inosuke's yelling. Speaking of which, a loud shout could be heard from across the grounds followed by a clang of metal. Nezuko and Kanao just looked at each other and giggled.

Despite getting along with Nezuko and the others just fine, Kanao still felt lost. She had lost both of her sisters in the war with the demons, and she could do nothing to bring them back. The only thing that made her life worth living was Tanjiro, and he was off at the mountain. She had no use of her right eye, but was getting better with just the one.

Nezuko noticed her stop working and seemed lost in thought. "Kanao. Are you okay? You're lost in thought again." She placed a calming hand on the older girl.

"Y-Yes, I'm fine thank you."

As they turned back to continue their work, a new sound filled the air. It wasn't Inosuke's yelling or swords; nor was the sound of Zenitsu snoring on the porch. The birds that had been quiet now began to fly away. All that remained was the blaring new sound. Strangely, just as the first noise started, another noise followed it. This one sounded like a car, but it was louder, and in the sky.

Tanjiro stared in the air as the large metal machine danced like a bird with another one. After what looked like a battle of sorts, one of the machines began to fall in a cloud of smoke. It spun and spiraled down and down, right at him.

Moving quick, Tanjiro jumped away from where the plane landed. The tree he chose as his perch shook when the mighty beast hit the ground. From his branch he could see what looked like a man crawling out from the top of the machine. He slowly jumped down to help the injured man. A thought nagged at him, warning him that this man could be an enemy but he didn't care. This man needed help.

"Sir, are you alright?" Tanjiro approached the plane slowly and offered an arm to the man. A bright red circle was painted on the tail of the plane which he recognized as the Japanese flag.

A response finally came as the man tumbled to the ground in a bloody mess. "Boy, who are you?"

"Tanjiro Kamado, sir."

"I am *coughs* Hiro Tasaki." A large piece of metal plating was lodged in Hiro's chest. "I don't have much time. Please, Tanjiro, defeat the American devils." With that last statement and request, Hiro Tasaki fell to his side and his life faded. The metallic monster groaned again as the weight shifted a bit to the side.

Tanjiro stood still and speechless. He knew of the land called America, but he had never heard their people called 'devils'. Surely, they couldn't be as bad as the demons he was used to facing on a daily basis. Still, if Americans were here... "Kanao!" He took off into the woods towards the mansion as fast as he could.

"Quickly, quickly! Everyone inside!" Nezuko had gone around to find all the residence of the butterfly manor. Giyu, Sanemi, and Tengen were also there helping out. The three former Hashira were working with the Kakushi to help those injured from the nearby town. As soon as they heard the planes, loud explosions followed. The Americans had bombed the nearby town. Women and children were rushed inside while the remaining men stood by the swordsmen to protect the estate.

Tengen held his sword in his one remaining hand while he used his one remaining eye to search the skies for the threat.

Sanemi stood as a sentry as well at the front gate prepared to cut down any intruders.

Giyu simply watched from above. He stood with his eyes to the sky but and ear on the ground. Silently, he stood above the place of the one that teased him the most. A voice rang in his head as a purple butterfly landed on his shoulder. "Thank you, Giyu." And as quickly as it came, the butterfly left. The former water Hashira followed its path for a moment before turning back to the sky. He knew it was Shinobu thanking him.

Down below, Kanao and Nezuko were working to settle the children down and help the women with babies. Inosuke and Zenitsu were handing out swords to those capable enough to use them. Aoi and the triplets tended to the wounded that came in. Once the swords had all been handed out, Inosuke threw a glance at Aoi before walking outside. Curious, the girl followed.

"Inosuke, are you alright?" She found him sitting on the porch staring at the gate.

"I don't know if I can protect them all." For the first time in a long time, Aoi heard the voice of a man that was scared. She remembered the time after the mountain and Rui, when he came back broken and sulking.

With a small scoff, she sat next to him. "What happened to the man who was willing to take on an upper moon demon? What happened to the man that trains me? The one that acts like he's trying to win to make me feel better?" This got him to turn a bit.

"You knew?"

"It's obvious. You're holding back on me." Aoi pouted and leaned on him.

"I'm sorry."

"You don't have to be sorry, be strong. We will defend this place until..."

"No!" The Beast Hashira stood up straight almost knocking her over. "You're not fighting here. You're not ready." With that, he turned back to find Zenitsu.

The Thunder Hashira was out back helping with defenses when Inosuke came to find him. The large wooden wall was being reinforced with stone blocks and rocks behind it.

Inosuke stomped over and lifted the heaviest rock he could find and dropped in behind the wall. He grunted as he stood back up and studied his work.

Zenitsu stared at the rock. "While an impressive feat Inosuke, it needs to be over here." He pointed to a whole in the rock wall that this boulder fit perfectly in.

The Boar stared for a second. The rock, the hole, the rock, the hole. He then puffed out his chest. "I knew that, I was testing it's weight!"

Suddenly, a high pitched voice came from behind the two. "Now it no time for arguing!" Both Hashira turned back to find Nezuko standing there with her hands on her hips. "Inosuke, please put that boulder where it needs to go." She then turned to Zenitsu. "And you, I need you're help with an injured man."

"Whyyy?" Zenitsu whined. "You know I don't do well with blood." The small former demon strutted to him and looked up. Then she stood on her tip toes and kissed his cheek. "Okay."

Inosuke watched in a stunned silence as Nezuko lead Zenitsu away. "..." Before the short girl could come back and get onto him again, he lifted the rock and placed it back where it belonged. He then turned back to find a girl behind him again. Only this time, it was Aoi. "Oh, it's you. I thought Nezuko had come back to scold me again." He once again faced the wall.

Aoi pouted as is seemed her presence was ignored. "Inosuke! Listen to me." This go him to stop lifting things pointlessly and focus. "Inosuke, I don't know what's coming, but I don't want to lose you. You-You're important to me."

A roar flooded the sky before they had a chance to continue. The sound of an engine came blitzing across the grounds. The next sound, gunfire. "Aoi!" Quickly, Inosuke jumped from where he was and covered her with his body. Bullets rained down and lit up the ground they stood on. The large stone wall was almost blown away but the pilot pulled up. As the roar seemed to leave the immediate area, Inosuke looked down to check on her. "Eh! Aoi! Are you alright?" He looked her up and down to find a bit of blood on her left side. Without thinking, he ripped that part of her top off to check for a wound.

"I-Inosuke!" Aoi seemed to have come back to reality and realized what was happening. "I-I'm fine."

"No, you're bleeding."

"I'm not. You're bleeding." She wasn't poking fun. It wasn't Aoi's side that got struck, Inosuke got hit.

Feeling around a bit, he found the bullet had gone into his back and exited his side without any major injury. "Hold on." He slowed his heartbeat and breathed calmly. After about a minute or so, he relaxed. "There, all fixed." He felt Aoi poking around at his back to find that there was an entry wound, but little blood. She then wrapped her arms around him and held on.

Zenitsu and Nezuko came running back to see the two on the ground in an embrace. "Are you two alright?" Nezuko ran over and checked on both. She found Aoi shedding tears and Inosuke holding her with a bit of blood dripping from him. "Inosuke."

"I'm fine. One bullet can't stop me." He turned up to the sky. "You hear me bastard! It's gonna take more than one bullet to stop Inosuke Hashibira!"

I have returned from the depths of my mind to bring you more content. For those wondering, I'm leading this into a World War 2 setting. Slightly AU but the time frame fits so I'm going with it.
