"MARIO!
VERSUS
LINK!"
Stage: Hyrule Castle
Fighters: Mario, Link
Rules: Free-For-All, 3 Lives Classic Mode, 5 Minutes, All Items
Mario regained consciousness. He was in a dark place which Even if it wasn't for a long time, it still felt like ages before he could move. He was so happy that he could do something. He jumped to the light that he saw above him, once again ready for whatever he was about to face. He burst out from a pipe…
…into a…castle?
It sure looked like one. The main platform was joined by two other platforms, one with some sort of tent-like structure. Closer to Mario was a tower with three wooden platforms on it, two on the left and one on the right, placed for someone to climb them. This reminded him of a castle far more than the arena he had to fight on last time. Out of a column of light, descended a familiar face for Mario.
Link stood proud, holding his sword and shield. He took a breath, and with all of his strength, let out a "HAAAAAAAAI!" to prepare himself. The voice spoke to them once again.
"Okay boys, you've got to listen up! Mario can return three times, but you, Link, ought to be more careful, since you get only ONE! Also, you have to SMASH out your opponent in the span of 5 minutes, no more, no less! Those are Mario's rules from now on. Make sure he has a hard time, Link Mah Boi! Ready,Go!"
Mario began to run towards his opponent, beginning the fight with a dashing kick. Link was quick to block it, and began his counterattack with multiple slashes. Mario guarded, surprised by the protective barrier that came along with this action. Furthermore, he was suddenly confused as to why he could hear a strange noise right behind him…
"Oh, and watch out for the tornado."
Angry italian plumber noises could be heard as Mario was flung away various meters in the air by the tornado, which Link effectively dodged. "Sorry, weather's kinda strong at this height." Even though Mario couldn't know it, the Hylian youngster took pleasure in hearing every single word come out from his mouth. In his native world, he didn't talk much (not that he was given the chance to) and all that came out from his mouth were various battlecries, which he dubbed the "HYAT Collection".Despite that, he took it with a pinch of humor, and the fact that he could talk freely without people putting their own words over his filled him with joy to the bottom.
Link took his mind back to the fight. He pulled out his Boomerang, a weapon which could go back to its user after being thrown due to the V-form aerodynamic structure which it possesses. Mario was hit over and over by it, before jumping to dodge it. Link took the chance of this opening to position himself right below the plumber and hitting him with a Spin Attack. Mario was greatly damaged by the spinning sword and man combo and flew outside the border, which he now called "blast line."
One life down.
The hovering platform arrived and Mario hopped off of it, readying a strategy of his own. He began firing Fireballs by his side of the field, hitting Link countless times. The swordsman could see through Mario's easy, foolish strategy, so he used his Hookshot to grab him from far away and throw him away. Mario recovered in the air, seemingly with a smug look. He grabbed Link when he landed on the floor, throwing him to the tent's small but effective wall. After that he began to combo him while he was floating, mixing small punches to keep him in the air and stronger ones to try and smash him away. At one moment Mario missed one attack and Link fell down to the floor. The latter laid down for a few seconds, then got back up, not noticing the tornado behind him.
"Bingo", Mario thought to himself as he saw the young Hylian fly away to the sky. But his satisfied face turned into one of disappointment when Link recovered in the air. Mario was angry, why was it so hard to knock that man away? That was not a "Wahoo" moment.
A tomato fell from the sky. Link was quick to grab it, and as soon as he did he could feel his energy recovering. As lucky as he always was, this specific time he felt luckier than ever. If only Navi was around to see him triumph over the plumber…
His happiness didn't last long as he was interrupted by some lasers. Mario had grabbed a Ray Gun and was firing it at him while he was healing, interrupting his recovery and angering him greatly. The Jumpman, as they used to call him, was joyful to humiliate his opponent by doing the same thing he did and thought he was finally going to defeat him.
That joy was quickly cut short.
"Out of ammo?! Agh! You've-a got to be kidding me!" Mario threw away the gun and started to run fiercely towards Link, who was alarmed by Mario's actions. He was even more alarmed when he jumped upwards. And he was effectively hit by Mario's downward kick. He almost flew outside the stage, but recovered in the air once again, landing at the tower's platforms. Link saw that fat red-and-blue mustache get the karma he deserved by getting flung away due to the tornado. Mario was about to fall but he hung on a cliff and managed to survive that one.
"You don't understand!" Link began, "I know that you want to win for everyone, but what will you do if you lose?! Can you really guarantee that you'll manage to defeat every single fighter all by yourself?! They are more than what you think, you know! I fought them before! They're really strong, you shouldn't underestimate th—"
"If I don't win, at least I tried!" Mario's fiery eyes were looking at Link as if to tell him that he was going to keep moving forward. Link was startled by them, but then he realized.
"These eyes…they're the same as mine."
