Chapter 4: It's a Start
Daniel was on his room that night noodling on his electric guitar ascending and descending on the neck, picking up the speed as he progress. It was his way of warming up before he plays a full song. It took him about 10 minutes to warm up his fingers and finally to start it off he played Eddie Van Halen's Eruption, he always enjoyed playing that song because he was a fan of Eddie since he was young his father introduced him to Van Halen's music at a very young age. Eddie and his old man (Daniel's father) was the reason he learned to play the guitar. Daniel and his father played eruption a lot back in the days, it was a good memory for Daniel hence the reason why it holds a special place in his heart. Right after he played eruption cleanly he pulled out his phone plugged it into his speaker and chose from a selection of backing tracks. "hmmm. What should I play?.. Let's see here..ah! here we go!" Daniel said excitedly and tapped his phone selecting a track and it was 'Kickstart My Heart' by Mötley Crüe. The song started and Daniel played along filling in for the lead guitarist's part (it was was a backing track for a lead guitarist). After he was done playing about 3 more songs he decided that was enough for the night and went to lay down on his twin bed and stared at the ceiling thinking about how his life is completely changed due to him having superhuman abilities. It took about a good 1 hour for sleep to finally embrace him, when the buzzing of his alarm clock woke him up he grunted and sighed in his pillow and said. "I hate this goddamn thing!" With a groggy voice. He lightly tapped the snooze button and got up went to the bathroom washed his face and brushed his teeth and sat down the dining table to have breakfast with his aunt. "So how is school?" His aunt asked him making casual conversation. "It's alright.. pretty chill so far." Daniel replied taking a bite at his pancakes. "Do you have any problems with bullies again?"She asked. "No, not really.. I mean there is this one girl but sh-" Denise cut him of. "IT'S A GIRL THIS TIME!?" She said almost shouting and then quickly fixed herself apologizing for her sudden outburst. "Is she one of those punk trouble making girls that gets pregnant at a young age?" She asked him. "No not really.. She's quite the opposite actually.. I mean she's a spoiled rich girl but deep inside I think she's a good person... She's confused or something." Daniel finished. "Is she pretty?!" Denise ask while trying to teas her nephew. "To be honest yeah.. and 'pretty' is an understatement she's super gorgeous and she's not even trying! it's like she's just born to be a natural goddess." Denise gave him a grin from eat to ear. "What?" Daniel asked in confusion. "YOU LIKE HER DON'T YOU?!" She teases. "Not really, no." Daniel replied unfazed. "Oh come on Daniel you're no fun!" His aunt has this teenage side of her which Daniel likes but sometime he finds it annoying. "Come on aunt Denise! How could I like her? She's one of the popular girls in school and I'm a nobody! and beside she's taken.. and also she's the second daughter of the most riches man in Kings City so hmmumm.." He murmured that last part. "WHAT!?" Denise replied in shock. "The daughter of the man who hired my friend's company is bullying you!?" She said that mouth agape. "Not really bullying just degrading or insulting but yeah basically.. but don't worry it doesn't faze me or affect me so it's all good.. and besides I think she'll stop." Daniel took a swig on his orange juice. "Wait a minute how did you know she is the second daughter of Mr. Robert Avalon? Did you look her up?!" She said teasingly while ascending and descending her eyebrows repeatedly. "NO! I-I mean yeah but not in the way your thinking!" Daniel answered defensively. "Riiiiiight!" She replied still with a teasing tone. "look I needed the information so that I would know who she is! not in a perverted and creepy way!" Daniel replied but his aunt just did the eyebrow thing. "Okay that eyebrow thing is getting kinda creepy.. wait shouldn't you be on your way to work now?" Denise immediately stood up. "Oh shoot! I almost forgot! I gotta go! and don't forget to lock the house okay Dan?" She then hurried and went outside leaving for work and soon Daniel followed, locked the house and then leaving for school.

Our hero walked into his locker to grab a few of his books to take to his classes when he notice a pink little paper. He quickly grab it and looked at his surroundings to make sure no one was acting suspicious, it could be a park for all he knows. When she realize nobody was acting suspicious he read the small paper in secret. "Meet me at rooftop at lunch.. E Avalon?.. What?" Confuse he thought hard of what could Elise want from him? He got to his first class went to his usual spot and secretly stared at Elise but she was acting kinda nervous while talking to her friend. 'Why is she acting nervous what could she possibly want? and why meet at the rooftop is she staking clime to that area? oh please not that! the rooftop is my fortes of solitude!' Daniel said mentally talking to himself the teacher then arrived and started the lesson but he couldn't focus on his class due to the anxiety building up inside him, he the returned to the question in his mind. 'What does she want? Think Daniel! Think! She asks to meet at the rooftop.. But why?' Then something clicked in his head. 'Oh shit!.. She knows! She knows about the powers! and she's gonna blackmail me into doing whatever she wants!.. probably not the last part.. she has servants to do that... Welp I'm fucked.'
-Elise's POV
I arrive at school early and went to Daniel's locker double check to make sure it was his and surly enough it was. I slid the note on the gaps of the locker and waited for him to show up when he finally did an hour later I hid behind a turning point in the hallway. The place was packed and it was hard for me to see what he's doing I saw him looking around 'But did he get my note?' I asked myself, then I saw he had my note in his hand I felt relived but also anxious an nervous for the meeting coming lunch period. I walked to class and glanced in the direction of the area where he usually sits but in my surprise he wasn't there. 'Why is he not there did he go home? what about the meetup? Oh no!' I then sigh in relief when I saw him entered he didn't look at me and 'Is he anxious why is anxious?'I asked myself it made me nervous when he passed by, I'm having second thoughts about the meetup. "This is probably a bad idea should I call it off? but how? NO! you're tougher than this Elise Medina Avalon! you can do this!' I pep myself up, it did help with the mixed anxiety and nervousness a bit. "Hey!" Samantha snapped me out of my thoughts. "You alright?" My friend asked me and I just replied with a nod. "I'm not convinced.. Is this about yesterday?" She persisted and so I replied. "Kind of but... Don't worry about it!" I assured her with a smile. "Alright sure.. oh the teachers here." The class began and but now my anxiety is building up again as time continues it's not helping that the time seemed a little faster today. The bell rang as another subject started and then it ended as if it was only seconds and now lunch period was next I began to sweat profusely as the time of the meet up is upon me, Samantha tapped my shoulder and I shook a bit and then she speaks. "Why so jumpy girl?" she asked. "It's nothing Sammy! I just.. you go on a head and meet Edward and Carol at our usual table. I just need to do something first, oh! and get me my usual. Thanks!" I gave her a smile and walked of the opposite direction. I took slow steps to the stairs to the rooftop to delay the inevitable and as I reach the last step I stopped in front of the door to the entrance and took a deep breath. "Let's get this over with Elise! it's just to apologize not a big deal!" I opened the door and... He wasn't there. I sigh in relief. 'Wait! Why am I sighing in relief?' I asked myself 'He's not hear yet might as well wait... I hate waiting! But I got no choice I did ask him to meet me here.' I looked at my surrounding and noticed the wall on the right corner of the entrance has a burn mark is if a fireball had hit it. 'Hmmm.. I wonder what happened to that?' I questioned myself while waiting for him.
-Daniel's POV
I follow her on her way to the rooftop doing my best not to get noticed by people as I reached the stares I let her go in first. I was hesitant to follow so prance back and forth in deciding should I go or should I bail yeah I know it's rude to bail but come on! I'm gonna have a heart attack for God's sake! then I decided to go to the cafeteria to buy lunch and so I did. When I reached the cafeteria I there was not much people in the line so in no time it was my turn to order so I ordered my usual, but instead of buying one sandwich I accidentally bought two.. Great how am I'm having a food coma in the class after lunch. I payed for my food and bottled water and went straight to the stairs as I reached the door to the rooftop I took a deep breath and entered... And there she was.. standing near the mesh grill and she turned around to face me. The wind blowing her golden hair the bright rays of light touching her skin brightening her emerald green eyes making them even more vibrant and full of life. All the anxiety instantly melted from my body as she called me and snap me out of my mind. "Well you certainly took your time getting hear! you sure know how to make a lady waiting." I felt guilty for making her wait completely forgetting why I'm here. "Sorry.. To be honest I almost bailed and but then that would just be rude is it?" I replied. "Well yes it would be rude.. but at least you came!" She said. I then asked her why she wanted to meet up. "So.. Umm.. What do you wanna talk about?" I said. "I-I just wanted to apologize about how I treated you.. It wasn't right and for that I am truly sorry." She sigh it took me a few seconds to process what I've heard. "Oh.. well that's quite alright.. water under the bridge Avalon.. I'm not a person who holds grudges anyway." I reply adding a chuckle and extended my hand for her to shake, and she shook it. I'm not surprised how soft and smooth her hand was. I remembered I have 2 sandwiches. "So.. you wanna sandwich?.. It's good. I promise you it's good and you don't have to worry I didn't poison it." She laughed a bit and took the sandwich, she actually accepted it and started eating it. I can't get over how cute her laugh was. we sat on the floor our back against the wall and started eating. 'I can't believe I was having lunch together with the grate Elise Avalon! and we are inches from one another! and the best of all she apologized! are we gonna be friends? No no no don't get a head of yourself Dan.. Okay then breath in breath out make casual conversation.' I mentally spoke to myself. "Sorry about yesterday by the way.. you know the things I said to you." She swallowed the bite she took before speaking. "Actually about that I wanted to thank you for saying those things It actually woke me up and decided I wanna change my ways.. Thank you for that Daniel." She finished. "Oh... Well that's good to know! Oh and umm.. You're welcome Avalon." She looked annoyed. "Can you please stop calling me that!" She snapped. "What? Avalon? That's you're name is it? What am I suppose to call you then?" I asked sincerely. "Yeah That's my last name! just call me Elise like everyone else." She finished, "Okay then Elise.. sorry." I replied. "Just finish your sandwich already." And so I did and drank my water. "So how was the sandwich?" I asked her is she finished her last bite. "You're not lying it really was good!" She smiled a sweet smile."I told you!" I said boasting. "You know I eat here everyday?" I told her. "You do?" She replied. "Yeah it's pretty nice because it's peaceful and the view is nice." I smiled and she smiled as well. "Can I ask you something?" She said her smile disappeared. "Y-yeah.. Sure, what is it?" I replied. "Why do you not have friends?" I inhaled and exhaled as I was about to answer. "Well.. I'm use to not having any.. ever since elementary I never had any and that kinda just stuck with my." I answered honestly. "Doesn't it feel... Lonely?" She asked. "No... not really.. At first yes it was but I worked around it by doing hobbies and stuff like that." I answered he question. She went quiet. So I decided to stop our little meeting for now. "You should umm.. Probably go back to your friends.. You don't wanna keep them waiting." She then suddenly stood up fixed herself and went for the door, but just before she got out she turned to me one last time and said. "Thanks for the sandwich Daniel! Oh! And uhhh.. Can you keep this talk between us?" She said and I laughed before replying. "Who do you think would I talk to about this Elise? Have you forgotten that I'm a friendless loner? hahaha! but yeah sure let's keep this between us, wouldn't wanna tarnish your reputation." I replied and then gave her a smile, she then left. "Well that's a start." I said to myself then I felt my phone buzz. And it was a text from aunt Denise and it said 'I forgot to tell you, we're out of eggs be sure to get some on your way home' I typed my reply. 'Ok! [ Three thumbs up emoji]' I hit send and stood up fixed myself and sighed.
-Narrator's POV
Nothing much happened that day, except for a few glaces between Daniel and Elise from time to time also giving smiles to one another. However there was an announcement from the intercoms about the Halloween dance coming up in the end of the next month. Some are excited about the announcement some are shocked. Daniel on the other hand just kept an emotionless face knowing that he won't be joining the dance due to his lack of girlfriend or friends even. "hmm.. welp probably just join the band and make the music for couples to dance to." He said to himself. "Yeah! Thant's actually not a bad Idea.. I'll go a head and look for the person in charge of that." After class he looked for the music teacher and asked him about the band that plays on the dance. he was in the gymnasium setting on a chair and writing something on a piece of paper. Daniel approached him and asked. "E-excuse me sir are you the teacher in charge of the band that plays on the Halloween dance?" He asked nervously the teacher then gave him a smile. "Yes I am! are you interested?" The teacher has long hair tied into a pony tail with a streak of grey hair due to his age. "Yes sir I would like to join where do I sign up?" "Can I get your name please?" the teacher replied. "Daniel Sir.. Daniel Frost." He finished. "Okay Daniel! What do you play?" The teacher asked him. "Well I play Guitar and Piano so I don't have a problem with either." Daniel answered honestly. "Do you have you're own guitar?" The teacher asked another question. "Ah yes sir I own a floyd rose guitar." The teacher wrote something on the paper and then looked up to Daniel. "Okay good so next week we're gonna begin practicing so bring you're guitar with you everyday starting this Monday okay?" He instructed. "Y-yes sir." Daniel cooperated. "Good my name is Mr. Slade Gibson by the way and nice to meet you Daniel." They shook hands and Daniel left the gymnasium and went to 70-Seven [It's seven eleven in this world if anyone is wondering] to pick up some eggs that his aunt asked him to do. And then he went to work like the usual and as usual he stayed late to practice his powers to master it even further or to discover more abilities.
