That night, Anna and Elsa sneaked off with Elsa wearing some casual attire tossed on to look like a commoner rather than a Princess.
"You sure this is a good idea, Elsa?" Anna asked as she helped her sister make it to the gates.
"Just as long as I'm fast enough. I'll be back before anyone noticed I'm gone." Elsa whispered as the gates opened for the daily deliveries to leave and she worked fast as the guards weren't looking.
While she was doing that, Anna stood there with her mouth covered to not make any noise as Elsa was able to sneak out with no one noticing.
Early in the morning, Hiccup and Bruni were roaming the marketplace when a woman approached.
"What's your lizards name?" The woman asked him.
"Bruni." Hiccup introduces him to her. "And he's not a lizard, he's a salamander. He's sensitive about that."
"Well, he's a lovely salamander then." The lady says as she scratched Bruni's neck, causing him to leap onto her left hand.
"That's a lovely necklace." Hiccup commented on her golden necklace.
Bruni then roamed around her neck and onto her other hand. "So where does Bruni come from?"
"He-" Hiccup was going to explain when he noticed someone picking his pocket and stopped her. "Uh, I think this belongs to me." He stated and the two women just marched away with a scoff. "Good day, ladies."
They then walked away as Hiccup smiled and backed off before rounding the corner for Bruni to come into view.
"What'd we get today, Bruni?" Hiccup asked as the salamander pulled out the necklace from under the sand. How he does it, don't ask. "Good little salamander." He congratulated as he scratched his chin before walking off.
Meanwhile down the street of where he was, Elsa was looking around the place she called home for years but never visited.
Looking around, she saw a few children who looked like they were starving and eying the food.
"Hello. Are you hungry?" Elsa asked them and watched as they nodded yes. "Here, take some bread." She handed them a bun and watched as they ran off with it.
Elsa smiled at that, but that caught attention of the man who nearby. "Hey! Hey!"
Back down the street, Hiccup was looking at some food stands as Bruni was sneaking around when he heard the man's cries and turned to see him and a new girl arguing. He was surprised he hasn't seen someone like her around, as he mostly knows everyone as he's lifted by almost everyone.
"You steal from my brother?" He asked Elsa.
"Stealing?" Elsa asked in shock. "No, I..."
"You either pay or I turn you in!" The man demanded of Elsa and Hiccup knew this was going to blow up soon.
"Sir, I don't have any money." Elsa tried to explain as the man grabbed her wrist. "Let go of me!"
Hiccup then slid in as Bruni leaped off Hiccup's shoulder and onto the man's shoulder. "Whoa! Take it easy, Flynn."
""This one, she stole bread." Flynn stated. "This is none of your business, street rat!"
"Those children were hungry!" Elsa stated. "I-"
"Okay, give me a minute." Hiccup asked of Flynn and turned to Elsa. "Do you have any money?" He whispered to her.
"No." Elsa answered.
"Okay, do you trust me?" Hiccup asked her, and Elsa just stared into his eyes and just saw someone who actually was worth trusting.
"I..." Elsa didn't know how to answer that as Hiccup slipped off her gold bracelet and turned to Flynn.
"Here you go." Hiccup handed it to Flynn as Elsa was trying to understand what just happened. "This is what you wanted, right?"
"Thank you." Flynn said as he took it.
"And an apple for your troubles." Hiccup handed him an apple before walking off and grabbing Elsa's hands.
"That was-no, I-" Elsa tried to find her words as he picked up Bruni. "I'm not leaving without my bracelet."
"This bracelet?" Hiccup asked while holding the bracelet up to her with Bruni smiling. "That was a bad idea trying to steal from that family. Trust me, I know. You're new here, aren't you?"
"I'm not looking for trouble." Elsa promised him.
Hiccup then turned to face her as if she were crazy. "What a horrible way to live."
Flynn then reached into his pocket for the bracelet and realized he doesn't have it on him. "Hiccup!" Hiccup froze and realized they've been made. "Thief with Hiccup!"
Elsa looked scared and then towards Hiccup. "Are we in trouble?"
"Only if we get caught." Hiccup said with a smile. "Down that alley. The salamander will show you the way."
Bruni then leaped onto Elsa's shoulder as the guards start to make their way through the crowd. Hiccup smiled and watched as Elsa took a second glance before disappearing down the alley.
Hiccup then turned to the guards and raised his hand to reveal the bracelet. "You looking for this, Flynn?"
Hiccup quickly ran away from a guard chasing him and saw another coming up ahead of him, but Hiccup knew theses streets better than anyone else and quickly skidded down towards an alleyway and raced off as the two guards ran into each other.
Quickly running down the alley, he sees a cart was broken, but that didn't stop him as he leaped off a basket and onto one of the wood pieces sticking out of the houses and made his way through them.
Hiccup smiled as he saw someone close his window and got an idea for the guards chasing him. "Gotta keep one jump ahead of the bread line!" He declared as he raced off and knocked on the window, causing the man to open it, but ends up smacking the face of the guard.
Not stopping, Hiccup raced down a house in progress and made his way past the construction equipment. "One swing ahead of the sword. I steal only what I can't afford. And that's everything."
Hiccup then looked and saw Bruni come out with Elsa right behind him. Elsa then noticed him and raced over to his side as Hiccup kept running away from the guards.
"One jump ahead of the lawman. That's all, and that's no joke." Hiccup stated as he leaped down onto the ground with Elsa as Bruni leaped back onto his shoulder. "These guys don't appreciate I'm broke."
"Riffraff!" The guards cried out to Hiccup as they approach from behind.
"Street rat!" The guards cried as they approach from ahead. "Scoundrel!"
Hiccup then picked up an apple and tossed it to them. "Take that!" He stated before picking up a sword and handed a rope to Elsa. "Try a dif'rent tack, guys!" He stated before cutting a line that shot Elsa into the air and onto the roof of a building and Hiccup was shot into the air after a box of who-knows-what slammed into the cart he was currently on and shot onto the second story.
"Rip him open! Round the back, guys!" The guards cried and raced around the building.
"I can take a hint. Gotta face the facts." Hiccup stated as he looked to Bruni who offered a gummy smile. "You're my only true friend, Bruni." He then leaned on a door which slid opened, and he landed in the middle of some group of women.
"Oh, it's sad. Hiccup's hit the bottom." The girls stated all together.
"Hey, ladies." Hiccup greeted as he got back on his feet.
"He's become a one-man rise in crime." They all declared as they raised to their feet.
Their elder in the room looked mad at Hiccup as she marched closer, and he backed away. "I'd blame parents, 'crept he hasn't got 'em!"
She then swung to smack him with her either ruler or stick as he dodged every swing. He couldn't tell as he wasn't exactly paying attention to what it was as he was currently avoiding it.
"Gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat. Tell you all about it when I've got the time." Hiccup stated as a guard raced in, and he leaped out the window. Once he did, the guard chased him, but was sent sliding down as Hiccup bounced off the window awning and into the window where a guard was, and Hiccup stayed against his back.
As he turned to look around, Hiccup grabbed the keys off his belt and leaped to the window when the guard noticed him, and he held the keys out. While the guard grabbed the keys, Hiccup leaped back out and bounced off of some more awnings and fell onto a pile of blankets and saw Elsa was there.
"There are stairs, you know." Elsa informed him with a laugh.
"Where's the fun in that?" Hiccup asked her before grabbing her hand and running off. "One jump ahead of the slowpokes! One skip ahead of my doom." They then made it to the street as Hiccup held his hand out as a cart passed and he grabbed onto the back of it. "Next time, gonna use a nom de plume."
Elsa was completely shocked by everything that was happening and caught her breath at the speed she was going at.
"One jump ahead of the hit men. One hit ahead of the flock." Hiccup stated when he saw some more guards up ahead. "I think I'll take a stroll around the block." He stated and raced down an alley as Elsa followed, but then Hiccup noticed Bruni was missing.
"Stop, thief!" The guards cried.
"Vandal!" One of the people cried out.
"Bruni!" Hiccup cried as he spotted the salamander digging through some jewelry nearby.
"Scandal!"
Elsa raced up a stairway as Hiccup picked his friend up as they became surrounded by guards. "Let's not be too hasty!"
Suddenly the door they were standing against opened up, revealing a crazy woman who picked Hiccup and confused the guards.
"Still, I think he's rather tasty!" She stated as Hiccup was seriously confused but quickly broke free and made his way up to Elsa.
"Gotta eat to live. Gotta steal to eat. Otherwise, we'd get along." Hiccup stated as the guards climbed up the stairs.
"Wrong!" They declared and raced up, but Hiccup then kicked down a few barrels and they were sent back down.
Hiccup then saw a steady board leading to the next building and a staff reaching the ground leaning against the building.
Hiccup then turned back to Elsa who was watching the guards. "Together on three."
"Together on three?" Elsa asked in confusion.
"We jump." Hiccup finished explaining.
"We jump?!" Elsa asked in fear.
"Why are you repeating everything that I say? The pole." Hiccup asked her this time before standing up, getting ready to run. Elsa stood next to him with her eyes on the staff in fear. "One. Two. Three!"
The two then raced to the edge as Hiccup leaped and made it to the other end but then noticed Elsa was clinging to the pole.
"I'm sorry!" Elsa cried as she looked to see the guards were coming for her.
Hiccup then climbed up and onto the second roof and sat down and looked back to Elsa. "Look at me. You can do this."
Elsa looked and saw she had nothing to lose and decided to go for it as she took a few steps back as the guards finally climbed back up the roof and quickly raced to the pole and flew onto Hiccup's leg.
"Nice." Hiccup commented as he helped her back up.
"Thank you." Elsa said as they start running off while the guards keep following.
"One jump ahead of the hoof beats. One hop ahead of the hump." Hiccup continued to sing as he ran away from the guards and tossed Elsa into a hidden pile. "One trick ahead of disaster! They're quick, but I'm much faster."
Hiccup then picked up a carpet and then a rope Bruni was holding in his mouth.
"Here it goes! Better throw my hand in, wish me happy Landin'. All I gotta do is jump!" Hiccup stated as the guards finally caught up to him but watches as he jumped off the roof and missed as he dropped the carpet, causing it to crash into another roof.
The guards then made the assumption he leaped off the building and raced down to chase him again.
Elsa came out of her hiding spot, no idea what just happened and sighed as she saw her rescuer climb back up to the roof.
"Come on, I know where we can be safe." Hiccup promised Elsa and watched as he walked off and followed.
