Chapter 5 Training before the Storm
The next morning at Tazuna's house the ninjas were awake and ready for training. Team Sannin were awake for a while and already outside in the forest waiting for team seven and for Tazuna to head out to work on the bridge, so one of them could watch him.
Shinta was currently stretching and moving a little to see how he's body was doing. "Are you completely healed?" asked Naruto.
Shinta thought for a moment. "I'd say yes, my muscles are all fixed and my bones are in place, just waiting for chakra and blood to build back up to a good amount."
"That's good," said Naomi, doing some stretches herself when she noticed Team Seven. "Aw here they are."
"Morning," greeted Kakashi, giving them an eye smile. "I see you guys are raring to go."
"Yeah," said Naomi before yawning. "Though I somewhat wished for a longer nap."
"A nap?" as Sasuke gave her a confused look.
"Did you not get sufficient sleep last night?" asked Sai.
"No, we just went to bed late, that's all."
Kakashi was silent for a moment. "Did you three go out last night?"
"Yep." said Shinta with a smile.
"Where'd you three go?"
"To kill Goto." said Naruto plainly.
"WHAT!" skricked Sakura. "Why?"
"Well, while killing Goto wasn't a part of protecting the bridge builder it would save us a lot of time just to get rid of the source of the problem."
Shinta agreed. "Yeah, men like Zabuza don't do anything for free, so killing Goto would get him to stop and save the bridge builder from any attack. It seemed like the right move to make."
"Did you do it, did you kill Goto?" asked Sasuke.
Team Sannin looked a little down. "No."
~o~
(The previous night)
The members of Team Sannin made it to a secluded part of the island away from the town, finding a very nice looking estate. "So this is where Goto is staying?" asked Shinta.
"According to the people in town and the guys we found at the docks who claimed they worked with him," said Naruto as he scanned the perimeter. "But I don't see any security."
"I don't think they were lying," said Naomi before pointing down at a single man that was loading a wagon, he was currently loading a large portrait of man that fit Goto's description.
Naruto nodded and signaled them to follow as he jumped down. They quietly moved forward towards the wagon, as the man left, when he did Naruto flipped the portrait over where the title read 'The Great Goto'. "Yep we're in the right place, come on." Naruto whispered as they made their way inside via the roof.
From above they saw two men grabbing a few items and putting them in bags. "Is that all of them?" asked the first one.
"It should be," said the second. "Do you really think the Reaper's comin?"
"Do you think anyone else could have taken that crazy sword swinging mutherfucker on? It's him, it has to be him, even Zabuza said so." Naruto and Naomi glanced at Shinta who gave them a mad grin. "Now come on, let's take this stuff to the drop off point."
"Drop off point? We aren't taking this straight to the boss?"
"Hell no, the boss has gone into hiding. Only his two top guys know where he is and I have no idea where they are, as far as we are concerned he disappeared off the face of the earth."
"Then what the hell are we doing?" as he got a strange look from the other man. "Hear me out, we are so low on the totem pole he don't give a shit and right now Goto has way more problems to deal with. Why don't we take this shit and go, some of this stuff is worth a lot of money."
"Yeah….Yeah… that's perfect, then that way we have no chance of dealing with the Reaper or any of the other crazy ninja bastards."
'Crap.' Thought the three ninja as this meant that Goto would be more difficult to find without a good lead. Though a sound caught their attention as they looked back.
A couple of women walked into the room. "Um, what about us?" It was clear by the clothing they wore for Goto's late night entertainment. "Where are we supposed to go now?"
"Like we care, bitch." said one of them as he grabbed the sack.
"Actually if you girls say anything about this," said the second as he pulled out a blade. "We'll kil-"
He didn't finish as Naruto jumped down and slammed them both to the ground with a Gale Palm. "Yeah that's not happening."
The girls screamed. "Who are you?"
"Don't worry," said Shinta from behind the girls, blocking their exit. "We're not going to hurt you."
"We just have a few questions for you." said Naomi, joining them. "We are leaf shinobi and it would be in your best interests if you talk with us."
Naruto threw the two thugs aside. "You all worked for Goto, correct?"
"Uh yes," said the lead woman. "We were his...uh…..cuddle buddies."
The three shinobi gave the woman a deadpan look. Naruto then cleared his throat. "Look despite our age, we are shinobi and we can tell you girls are his escorts, so how about a little bit of professionalism."
"Uh Okay." said the woman, not really sure how to talk to shinobi or kids their ages.
"Now when was the last time you saw Goto?"
"Early tonight, he had originally called us here to celebrate his hired muscle finishing off the loose end but something happened I think."
"What do you mean?"
"He rushed in here all crazy like, as if he got some devastating news or something, he kept mentioning a reaper, whatever that means." Naruto and Naomi looked at Shinta who was scratching his head.
"Okay what exactly did he do when he came back?"
"He went directly to his office with his two personal bodyguards and grabbed a lot of stuff, papers, files and his suitcase that he uses for money, and then he just left. Soon afterwards several of his men came back to grab his stuff, even asking the other staff members to help."
"Were they saying anything?" asked Naomi. "Like a location or a name perhaps?"
"No, one of Goto's bodyguards came back and started directing the men to go to certain locations and to store the valuables in banks."
"Damn," said Naruto. "He works fast, he must have had a plan if someone would have tried to kill him."
"So why are you guys still here?" asked Shinta to the girls.
"Oh well, Mr. Goto paid us for the full night and we didn't want to make him angry, since he does pay us very well. Unlike some of the other staff, they left early when he ran."
Naomi stepped forward and focused chakra into her throat. "So if you all were here during the move, did anyone say anything that you think would be important to this situation?"
Naomi's Voice Persuasion did its work as one girl in the back raised her hand. "I heard something. One of the men mentioned that Goto sent a few men to hire more assassins, those strong enough and willing enough to fight the Reaper."
Naruto groaned. "Just great. Come on, let's head back. The sun is rising soon and we need some sleep. Naomi."
Naomi nodded and turned to the girls. "Forget" As she caused a gen jutsu that caused the girls to forget the past hour.
~o~
"After that we came back and got a few hours of sleep." said Naruto ending the story.
Team Seven was looking at him with varying reactions, Sai looked at him unfazed, Kakashi looked at him already exhausted with the idea of more assassins, Sasuke was already hardening himself for the fight and finally Sakura looked as if she was about to faint.
"Great, just great." said Kakashi as he formulated a plan. "As if Zabuza wasn't bad enough, we got more enemies coming." Kakashi then turned to team Sannin. "I'm going to be needing some help."
"Way ahead of you," said Naruto as he was about to say something before he remembered something else. "But before we get to that, how about you teach these two how to use some chakra control to walk up trees."
Kakashi gave a small nod. "That is the reason we are up so early." as he went to his team. Team Sannin took a step back and watched as Kakashi demonstrated tree walking before coming down and throwing a kunai high into the tree. "I want you to try and reach that kunai."
Sasuke nodded and got low ready to sprint as he focused his chakra into his feet, he sprinted towards the tree and ran up the side feeling the grip from his chakra before the tree beneath his feet broke forcing him to jump back to the ground landing on his feet. "Dammit."
"Not bad Sasuke," said Kakashi.
"Indeed," said Sai. "That was a very good first try."
Shinta whistlesed. "Now that's some talent." Team seven looked at Shinta for a moment before noticing that he and his team were looking up. They all then heard the noise of a kunai being thrown to the ground, the three of them looked up to see Sakura at the top of the tree.
"SAKURA!" said her team, utterly surprised.
Naomi hummed. "She might have what it takes to be a proper kunoichi."
"It at least gives us something to work with," said Naruto as they watched Sakura climb down. "Kakashi if you don't mind, we can help you when it comes to training."
Kakashi looked at Naruto. "Oh and what do you have in mind?"
Naomi put a hand on Sasuke's shoulder, he tried to remove it but she tightened her grip. "Don't move, you'll thank me later."
"What the hell are you?" Sasuke quickly shut up as he felt his body shake, he fell to his knees as he felt the world going silent, it took him a second but he realized he was losing his senses. He lost the feeling of the grass beneath him, the sounds around him, the smell of nature and he was sure he couldn't taste anything, but he could still see. He could see so much, the tiniest of details became clear to him. He looked up to see Naomi was still looking at him and that Sakura was yelling something at her, he focused on Sakura noticing her mouth moving slower than anything he had ever seen before, as he felt chakra rushing to his eyes. "I have it. The Sharingan." It then disappeared as his senses returned. "I had it I had the Sharingan."
"Looks like it worked," said Naruto.
Kakashi looked at Sasuke, before turning to Naomi. "You unlocked his Sharingan. How?"
"I shut off all of his other senses, only leaving his eyes." explained Naomi. "This of course forced them to compensate, causing enough stress to push them further than ever before."
Susuke gently touched his eye. "Do it again I need the Sharingan."
Naomi smiled and pointed to the tree, "Then master tree walking. If you master it by noon, then I'll help you unlock your Sharingan."
Sasuke was getting angered for a moment before Naruto spoke. "It is something you do need to know, it will make life a lot easier."
Sasuke grunted. "Fine, I'll do it your way." as he looked at the tree before giving Naomi a side glance. "And you better be ready to give me my Sharingan." as he tried running up the tree again.
They all watched him fall again. "You think he's going to do it?" asked Naomi
"Oh yeah," as Naruto nodded. "He's desperate for that thing."
Sakura flinched as she saw Sasuke fall again. "Shouldn't we help him or at least give him some advice."
"Here's some advice," said Shinta as he raised his staff. "Duck."
Sakura screamed as she fell to the ground avoiding Shinta's swing. "AAAHH what the hell?"
Shinta grinned. "You and I are going to train."
Sakura started shivering, "What...why?"
"Because you're the weakest one here."
"Huh?"
"As an assassin, you would be my first target, you will be the first one to die in the next fight unless we give you something to work with."
Sakura slowly stood up. "So you're going to teach me how to fight like you?"
Shinta laughed at the comment. "Hell no, the training I went through would kill you, I do have one or two simple beginner techniques that you might be able to do." Shinta raised his staff in the air. "Until then you're just going to try and dodge."
Sakura looked like she was about to cry before jumping backwards dodging another strike. She then turned and ran as Shinta chased after her with his staff. "Hey, keep her near this area." shouted Naomi.
"Sensei, are you sure this is a good idea?" asked Sai.
Kakashi eyed Shinta as he attacked Sakura. "He's not even swinging a fraction as fast as he did when he fought Zabuza, he's not really going to hurt her."
"No, he'll hurt her." siad Naruto getting their attention. "If she doesn't move, he will hurt her, but that's something she needs." Kakashi thought it over for a moment and nodded. "You should still give them some advice," as Sasuke fell again. "They are your students."
"Yeah, that is true." as Kakashi realized another team was doing his job, but he wasn't really complaining. "Thanks."
Naruto gave him a nod before noticing Sai was staring at him. "So what are we going to be doing?" asked Sai.
'I was going to do this part on my own but I guess he could help,' thought Naruto. "We are going to do our mission and protect the bridge builder."
~o~
Zabuza was sitting on his bed looking at his blade for what felt like hours before he felt a presence behind him. "Did you deliver the message?"
"Yes, master Zabuza," said Haku as she bowed. "The messengers are en route to the people on the list."
"Good," he said without taking his eyes off of his blade.
Haku was nervous of her master. "Master…."
"Do you know the story about the seven swords of the mist?" asked Zabuza.
Haku recalled the tale. "A poor village that was under threat of invasion sent out a single villager to bring back warriors that could defend them. In the end only seven warriors would come and help as many others saw the cause as hopeless with little reward. Those seven warriors though proved successful and pushed back the attackers winning what appeared to be an impossible fight. As a reward for saving them the villagers forged seven blades for them with unique powers, this is how the first seven swordsmen of the mist began."
Zabuza was silent after Haku finished the story before slowly turning to her. "That is the most well known of the story."
"Most well known?" Haku said, puzzled.
"Did you know that in the land of iron, there is a similar tale about samurai." said Zabuza. "In the land of iron that tale is called the Seven Samurai."
"Seven Samurai," repeated Haku. "So the warriors were samurai and shinobi."
"No," said Zabuza as he remembered the story he was told. "Both tales are just parts of the truth."
~o~
(Many years ago)
Zabuza was at his first meeting of the seven swords of the hidden mist, he had recently just gotten the execution blade. To his surprise though there were only three other members left. "Are we missing three members or are they just too lazy to get here?" asked Zabuza.
"Shut it you brat," yelled Ameyuri Ringo, before she began coughing.
"Are you alright ma'am?" asked the other new member of the team, Mangetsu Hozuki.
"I don't need your help." snapped Ameyuri.
"You must forgive her," said the eldest member Fuguki Suikazan. "She's been having some health issues since her last fight."
"I definitely don't need crap from you." as she gave him a look. "If I ever see that bastard again, I'm going to kill him and take that blade of his."
"His blade?" This got Mangetsu's attention. "Was it one of the blades from the seven samurai?"
"What?" she looked at him as if was crazy.
"You know, one of the swords from the tale of the Seven Samurai."
"What the hell are you talking about?" asked Zabuza. "You mean the seven swords of the mist?"
Fuguki chuckled, getting their attention. "That is actually a possibility I had not thought of."
"Okay, what nonsense are you talking about now," asked Ameyuri.
"The opponent you fought might have been a wielder of a blade from the Seven Samurai."
"Seven Samurai?" asked Zabuza
"Wait, you mean that knock off tale from the land of iron?" asked Ameyuri.
"There might be more truth than you think," said. Mangetsu. "While the tales are similar there is no doubt that they also have seven special blades with unique powers as well."
"Wait, so there's another set of blades out there like ours." asked Zabuza, holding his sword. "So fourteen blades in total."
"Fifteen actually." stated Fuguki. "Both tales are actually just two halves of the true story. You see the village was home to the greatest craftsman in the world, when the village became known to the world they were hunted, they tried to hide but couldn't, they tried to fight but they only had three warriors left, so they sent out a villager who brought back twelve samurai, each was given a blade to fight with, along with the villages own three warriors they stood fifteen strong. They fought back against the armies that tried to invade but in the end seven of the warriors died dropping their blades, leaving them for the invaders to grab, these are the blades we carry right now."
The others looked at their blades. "So our predecessors were a part of the invaders."
"At first, but as they saw the power of the blades they knew they had to have it, but a problem showed itself when the invaders got a hold of the blades, they were weaker, not as powerful as when they were used against the invaders. A group of shinobi that the invaders hired realized that the villagers have a secret to seal the blade's power when it's not in the hands of those who side with the village. They took the blades and switched sides, knowing that it would give them the power they sought."
"The first Mizukage," said Mangetsu.
"Perhaps, or maybe his master before him, in any case together they defeated the invaders securing the village and even making deals with them, the shinobi were allowed to leave with the blades but the village warned them that the blades will not be at full power unless its bonded with the wielder. In any case the blades were still strong enough to help start our village. The same goes for the samurai as well, according to the tale two warriors from the village left with their blades on a journey of some kind before settling in the land of iron leaving their swords for them."
"Interesting." said Zabuza as he looked at his blade. "Does that mean our blades can get stronger or have some secret power?"
Fuguki shrugged. "Maybe, I don't know myself."
"Hold it, are you telling me that the guy I fought was a wielder of one of the other blades?" asked Ameyuri.
"I don't know. While we try and have a full seven swordsmen here, in the land of iron it is said that they have to go through rigorous trials to wield their blades and each blade is controlled by a well respected family in their land."
"Excuse me," said a voice as they turned to see a man with blue skin.
"Ah Kisame, what news do you bring?"
"We are ready to move sir, the team is ready."
"Excellent." said Fuguki as he grabbed his blade. "If you'll excuse me I have work to do."
He left before Ameyuri Ringo grabbed her blade. "I'm heading out too, I got to find that bastard now." as she sprinted away.
"Well she's in a hurry." stated Zabuza.
"Well if it's true she ran into another unique blade then whatever aliment she has could be fatal unless she finds out for sure." said Mangetsu.
Zabuza understood what he meant. "She doesn't have a lot of time does she?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Damn, this team is falling apart already." as he was about to leave Zabuza stopped. "Hey if we have seven blades and so does the land of iron, what happened to the last blade?"
Mangestu thought for a moment. "That is a good question, from the stories I've heard the fifteenth blade could only be used by the clan from the village."
"Clan?"
"Yes, the village as a whole could be looked at as one big clan." said Mangetsu. "The Uzumaki clan."
~o~
(Present day)
Zabuza ended his story keeping his eye on his sword. "That kid didn't even move and the kubikiribocho acted in a way I have never seen before."
"So that boy is an Uzumaki." said Haku as she connected the dots.
"From the looks of it, yeah and he's with the son of the Reaper." as Zabuza remembered their fight. "I underestimated the brat and it bit me in the ass. Chances are the Uzumaki kid and that one girl who was sitting next to the bridge builder are equally as strong as him."
Haku was silent for a moment. "This will be a difficult fight, won't it."
"Are you scared Haku?"
"No sir," she said firmly. "If it is your wish I will do anything."
"Good, we don't have a lot of time until the others arrive and when they do we'll attack the bridge builder, until we're in training mode."
"Yes sir."
"Get the training hall ready." ordered Zabuza as Haku left him alone with his sword, he slowly reached out and touched the blade. "Are you willing to fight alongside me?" he asked the blade but nothing happened. "I don't know what I expected to happen but I guess I should go and practice with something else for now." As he left the room, he didn't see the blade ripple slightly.
~o~
"By Kami, you are stubborn." Said Naomi as she saw Sasuke make it to the top of the tree with the tree climbing technique. "With an hour to spare."
To nail it home that he had it figured out, Sasuke walked down from the tree. "Now then, my Sharingan."
"Yeah yeah, take a break for now, I need to make sure Sakura isn't dead." said Naomi as went towards Kakashi as he watched Sakura dodge more of Shinta's slow, very slow attacks. "How's she doing?"
"Doing better than I expected, but to be honest that bar was low to begin with." Kakashi admitted. "She took my advice and stopped using too much movement to conserve energy and from the looks of it Shinta has sped up a bit, not a lot but enough to keep her on her toes."
Sakura took a deep breath, "How are you not tired?"
Shinta smiled. "We've only been at this for a few hours, we're not even halfway done."
Naomi looked at Sakura who looked like she'd been rolling around the ground for hours, with cuts and bruises all over. "That's good, at least then she'll be ready when attacks come her way, but I don't think that will be enough."
"I believe you are correct." admitted Kakashi. "While Shinta's attacks do give her a good workout and help her reaction time, it won't help her win a fight. I'm going to have to give her some sort of jutsu to work with. The question is now which one and do we even have enough time to teach it to her."
"Maybe you should ask Naruto, he has known her for the longest, he might have an idea for what she's good at."
"That's not a bad idea," said Kakashi as he wondered what Naruto and Sai were doing. "I wonder if he's giving Sai any advice?"
~o~
Sai was rubbing his cheek. "I still don't understand, why'd she slap me and why'd you stop me from protecting myself."
"One you deserved it and two you would have hurt the one female worker here, and this bridge needs all the workers it can get." said Naruto.
"How did I insult her?"
"You called her a cow."
"That's not what I said," Sai defended himself. "I was complimenting her with how hard she was working that she reminded me of a farm ox or a mule."
Naruto facepalm. "For fucks sake. You never compare a woman with a donkey."
"Mule."
"Whatever, just don't do it."
"But what if they do look like a donkey?"
Naruto almost wanted to slap Sai. "You never call a woman a donkey, always call them beautiful or say they have a nice dress, or something."
Sai thought it over for a moment. "That is somewhat the same thing Kakashi sensei told me. Though he had no issue when I was fighting that bandit woman."
"That's different."
"How?"
Naruto was silent for a moment. "Is he fucking with you?" asked Kurama. "Or is he just that stupid?"
"I don't know," said the inner Naruto. Outside he sighed. "Okay clearly you need some help that isn't shinobi related. Tell me if a person walked up to you to start a conversation what would you do?"
"I need more information on the scenario."
Naruto thought for a moment. "Let's say a girl walked up to you and said you looked cute, what would you do?"
Sai thought it over for a moment. "I would tell her she doesn't look like a donkey."
Naruto slowly blinked. "This is going to be a long fucking day."
