I do not own the PJO or BoO book series, because if I did, I wouldn't have to work 10 hour shifts :) Enjoy!
Champions of Fire
(1st person POV-CJ)
I looked at all of my boys, and nodded. Then sprinted. Yep, dead sprinted. I knew that what I had to do.
I ran and ran, getting closer and closer to team two's base. My mind was running while I was running, and I was playing out different sequences of battle.
But you very easily could fail, letting all of your teammates down, right? said my worries, trying to stop me from basically walking into my death. I cannot fail, I refuse to fail, it's not an option. I thought back to myself. Weird, I'm basically arguing with myself.
I slowed to a stop, and took in my surroundings.
The woods had slowly started thinning out, and started turning into more of an open field. On my right side, was the river that marked out of bounds. I knew I was coming closer to team Two's base, and I wouldn't be surprised if I got jumped right now.
I immediately looked around, after hearing a stick break a few yards to my left. I turned towards the noise, only to see a deer running away from me. Whew, thank god, oh wait, gods. This is so weird.
I was brought out of my thoughts with the sound of about 10 footfalls walking out right in front of me, and I sighed at the sight, Odin.
Odin was heavily taller than me, was definitely stronger, and a real bully. He was wearing a blood red t-shirt with cargo shorts, and on his back was an axe, a very large battle axe. He had black hair and brown eyes, with the same red glow as river, except more evil.
"So, the weakling decided to show himself?" Odin said, enticing a laugh from his gang of bullies behind him.
I didn't say anything, knowing my next move was very vital for me to get the flag. I slowly pulled my sword off my back and held it out in front of me. Hopefully Caleb's training on us was helpful.
I held my sword in front of me, as his gang slowly encircled themselves around me. Odin himself pulled his axe out and was looking at me, with glee and boredom.
Slowly, I turned towards the footfalls coming behind me, a different Ares kid, Brendan slowly came closer to me. He was wielding a spear and shield, and proceeded to shove me with his shield.
I only grunted and regained my balance quickly. The group was laughing at me being trapped between all of them. Why are you so weak?
It was frustrating, constantly being pushed by their shields around in a circle, until I tripped over towards Odin. He laughed in my face as I looked up at him.
"Oh well boys, accidents happen. This boy right here will go crying to momma before we can finish having our fun." Said Odin, a smile so evil it started driving me crazy.
Strike one.
I felt my blood starting to boil, "leave her out of this." I said firmly. A sight of fear flashed over a few of the guys as I pushed myself to standing, sword dangerously in front of me.
"Or what? You'll fight all of us? That's hilarious, you can't even defend yourself properly, much less your mother, dumbass." Said the evil boy. He laughed along with a few others, while a few noticed something every time they looked at me.
Strike two.
I slashed diagonally towards Odin, him having pissed me off more than I ever experienced. He parried the blow with his axe, with a satisfying sching. He then attempted to flip my sword out of my hands, which succeeded. The sword fell onto the ground right next to me, with the blade a few inches in the ground.
I felt a slight tug on my gut, and I pulled on it, drawing out more power. It felt nice, but was eventually tiring over a large period of time. Luckily for me, I only just started.
A few of Odin's goons had looks of fear on their face, as if they knew what game Odin was playing.
I stepped to my left, to grab my sword and noticed the ground much wetter than it was before. Weird, the ground wasn't wet earlier.
Odin then stepped to his right, and grabbed me by the back of my neck and started speaking. I Immediately felt my eyes gloss over.
Strike three.
I saw many series of flashing images, some more terrible than others, but all terrible scenes that I never want to see again. Then I was back in the present, only to hear Odin whispering into my ear, "...and you'll never be able to save her."
Death.
I turned towards Odin, smacking his hand off of the back of my neck in the process. I roared out of anger and pure frustration.
I noticed that many water spouts had sprouted up behind me, knocking most of Odin's goons out of the fight.
I turned back towards Odin, only to see him backing away in fear, pulling out his Axe again. I could see his outline have a blood red tinge to it.
A few of Odin's boys stood in between us, as I took a step forward.
Big mistake.
I charged, knocking the shield out of the first one's hands and spun out of the way of his spear. Somehow, I think might have been an accident, hit him right in the base of his skull. Knocked him out cold.
I swung my sword at the second goon, in which he dodged and attempted to swing his sword at me. His swing was stopped cold by a wave of water that formed in front of me. He then looked at me with fear in his eyes.
I smiled for that look in his eyes, and stuck my left hand out, sending the wave forward, collapsing on him and slamming him into the third and final goon.
Odin looked at me with a fear in his eyes, but also a hidden rage. He pointed his axe at me and smiled, "finally, a true challenge." he said.
"Cut the shit Odin, you're screwed." And charged him.
(LINE BREAK LINE BREAK WHATS UP NERDS LINE BREAK LINE BREAK)
I swung my sword at him, from top right to bottom left, in which he dodged. He then attempted to take my head off with his ax, which I quickly ducked. This was going to be a slightly more challenging battle.
He swung his mighty axe again and again, forcing me to keep backpedaling and narrowly dodging certain death.
I found a gap in his guard and snatched it, slicing towards his stomach, in which Odin attempted to stop with his axe handle. He watched as the axe handle was split in two, and the blade narrowly sliced across his stomach, tearing his shirt and drawing a very little amount of blood.
Odin in which growled, and in which turned into a roar, and his two handed axe seemed to turn into one.
He let on an onslaught of attacks, never ceasing or slowing for a second in his rage. Most of his attacks I dodged or blocked, but had caused some major shocks running up my arms.
I know in this moment I have to finish this quickly, or else I was toast.
I felt for the tug in my gut, and I yanked it just as I barely put my sword up to deflect his mighty swing, threatening to cut me in two. Water seemed to rush forward from behind me, and hit Odin square in the stomach. He wheezed as all the air was crushed out of his lungs, and was flown into a tree. He smacked into the tree as all the water dispersed, completely soaking him. A little bit of blood seemed to trickle down his face as he looked up from the base of the tree.
I walked towards Odin, as he was barely retaining consciousness. "Keep up next time," I said with a smile, and I hit him with the pommel of my sword square in the temple, and watched as his eyes rolled back into his head, and I stood straight.
Rolling my shoulder, I laughed to myself, "damn, I have to stop talking to River so much."
I then grabbed Odin's emergency flare, and pulled it. Tossing it in the middle of the field, I watched as about four other smoke screens rolled over the hills. I wonder how my boys are doing.
I then walked out into the water, to clean the blood off of the pommel and revitalize myself. I dried the sword and myself, and put the sword away. Then I proceeded to walk towards where the flag should be, and what I saw made my eyes almost pop out of my head.
Sitting in the field was a whole bunch of Aphrodite kids doing their makeup, hair dressing, and other similar things. A few of the Ares kids were also flirting with the Aphrodite kids. When they noticed my presence, many just shrugged.
I noticed the head counsellor of the Aphrodite cabin, Emma, as she was a close friend of mine.
She had short dark blue hair, put up in a ponytail currently. Her hair was shaved off the sides of her head, and she was currently sitting on a stump doing her makeup. She had platinum colored eyes, and her power over charm speak was something that everybody feared. She noticed me and waved me over.
I walked over, standing while holding my sword, ready to draw at any point, wary of my surrounding.
Emma saw the worry in my eyes and started giggling, "Don't worry Hun, nobody else is here to attack you. The main attack first already left to go to your base, and those who stayed are here as you can see. We all have no intention to fight, we just want to sit and do our makeup." She then pointed at the Ares and Aphrodite kids behind a tree kissing, "or do that."
At the sight both of us laughed, and I laughed until my stomach started hurting. All that worry and fear was for nothing. I saw the flag a few feet to my right, and I started to grab it and pull it out of the ground.
Emma then shouted, "STOP!" and I hesitated.
She then pushed a hair out of her face and smiled, "okay, your good! Have fun CJ." And she blew me a kiss and waved me off. I slowly walked out with the flag on my shoulders, being held with my left hand, with my sword in my right, and started the walk back home.
(LINE BREAK ITS 3AM AND I HATE WORK LINE BREAK)
I walked into the clearing of our base, and I watched the last Ares kid get wheeled off by the field medics. Caleb had a bit of blood on the vine he was sitting on, and he was sitting there holding a drink smiling. He saw me and only smiled.
"What's with that look, did you think I wouldn't be able to hold it down like I said I would?" He said, speaking as if it was easier than it looked. I only smiled at him and walked to our flag, hanging the other flag below our own.
I then walked back to our war table, and sat down, as Caleb walked into the vine building, sealing the entrance behind him. I started then, "Well baldy, I had to fight Odin, got bullied for a few minutes, and then demolished him and his goons. When I walked to get their flag, there was a beauty salon already set up."
Caleb only laughed at that last remark, and spoke, "Those Aphrodite kids and their beauty salon, one day it will get them killed. The only way most of them will fight is when they lose their makeup equipment, and even then, I don't know how much of a weapon a brush is."
We laughed, and told our sides of the stories in detail, as we watched the others come back with a few different flags, and only Dylan returned empty handed, but also looked much worse than the others.
"Dylan, are you good?" asked Avery, having his spear strapped across his back, and his arms crossed.
Dylan wasn't even paying attention as he ate his ambrosia square, only muttering a few things. "Stupid arrows," as the many cuts on his body slowly healed.
We all laughed and started sharing our sided of the stories, Myself starting and explaining myself going berserk for two minutes, along with the others stating their stories. Those who weren't speaking looked deep in thought, as if trying to think of our next plan. When Caleb was finished his story, we started discussing their next battle sequence. In which involved everybody looking at Ethan, and he sighed.
"I'm not making much headway in thinking here, I'm not too sure in the next step of our plan should be, there are only three teams as most left their weakest fighters to defend, and in turn, lost their flag."
All the us only sighed except Avery, as he looked at the maps in more thought, with a certain light in his eyes.
"Avery, do you have a plan?" I asked.
He looked around at all of us, and started, "I might, I don't have the fine details down yet but I think we can make something work." With that statement, we all turned and looked at him. He took a deep breath and rose over the map.
"We are here in the east, and we have the least amount of fights, with the most flags. The melee fighters of the Hunters have the second most, with two. While team three got Dylan's failed flag, with one. Currently, we have a massive target on our back, so this will be a very difficult next day."
He took a deep breath and continued, "While, the Hephaestus cabin may be strong, they wouldn't dare try to run into the melee fighters of Artemis. While we may be a very strong team, but we can't take both teams on like we did today. Caleb, no offense, but you can't defend this alone this time, the hunters and team three will destroy you, so we can't put all of us on offense again."
"So are you suggesting that we hide tomorrow, and let demolish each other before we swoop in?" asked Ethan, he had more metal in his hands, that was beginning to look like a bracelet.
"Not exactly," Avery replied, "we should always have at least four people defending, that way we are strong enough to defend long enough for all of us to return. We should have two people, sort of acting as spies, sneaking around and watching the two, making sure their fighting each other, and not us. Those out also have to make sure they don't get caught between the two, as I'm sure the Hephaestus cabin has surely made plenty of traps."
"I think I know what to do, Dylan, River, Caleb, and myself- "Avery continued until a very loud horn blowing, signifying the end of the game for today.
All I knew was today was insane and these next few days would be killer.
I smiled and looked at my teammates knowing one thing.
We're going to win this thing.
