Well... That took a long ass time to write. But I finally did and I'm happy with the result. Hope you all are too.
Chapter 3
"Sweet Humanity"
Finally... Human world. They appeared quietly on the cemetery and just like Mrs. Mayberry said... Not a single soul in sight. The weather indicated that it was late morning so they should have enough time to sneak into every house. Especially since no one should be there right no-
"Umm. Mox.. It says today is Saturday" Millie said as she picked out a newspaper that flied at them from the entrance...
"Well... That complicates things..." Moxxie definitely wasn't prepared for that, this basically means that it's 90% of the chance that everyone is at home
"Don't worry! We can do it!" Millie bumped Mox's shoulder with her fist to make him feel better.
"Yeah... Maybe we can." Moxxie agreed and quickly hid the book in his pants and despite it being almost as big as him it didn't seem to stand out in them.
"Seriously Mox where did you buy them?" Millie pointed at his seriously strange pants
"Later Millie, we don't have much time" Moxxie got her back on track "We are going into both sides now and once we get all of them we meet up here okay?"
"Okay!" Millie and Moxxie grabbed their hands and touched each other with their noses "Good luck Mox!"
"Be safe Millie!" And Moxxie let go and both of them rushed in their separate directions.
They had to do it in a rather stealthy manner and not allow anyone to see them or at least make out what they are so both of them had to go through trees, construction sites or abandoned buildings or sewers, but eventually both of them reached their first houses... Houses of Rosie and Ariel...
Letter to Ariel
My sweet Ariel
I still remember how you always volunteered to wipe the board clean, always helped me when class had to be cleaned up and gave me advice on cleaning.
I still remember that time when I called you our class's Little Mermaid... Always ready to get into the water and help anyone you could...
You were inspiring to everyone... Especially for me. And I can't stop feeling like I disappointed you and it breaks my heart.
I'm so sorry for everything I must have put you through... For staining you in a way that can never be washed off...
Please... Meet me at the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m. If you can't or don't want then I understand, but...
It would make me so happy to see you one last time my Little Mermaid.
Millie had to go into more urban part of the city. Lots of city blocks, cars and noise. Thankfully there was just as many places where she could hide. She moved swiftly through trees, sewers and at one point she even snuck into someone's coat and travelled under it for a while without that person noticing. After about half an hour of this jumping around in order not to be noticed she found her destination.
A block of flats in colors of white and orange where the girl named Ariel is supposed to live in. All she had to do was go in, sneak into that girls house, put the letter on her bed and get out without anyone noticing. The only troubling part was that she lived on the 12th floor out of 14 and it was pretty damn tall so climbing on it was out of the question, so she decided to go in quietly through the entrance. At the moment when no one was looking she jumped from the bushes nearby into the entrance. The bottom floor wasn't very big. A mailbox was on the wall, but Millie couldn't use it. She had to make sure the girl would find it first. There was also an elevator there that was thankfully open right now so she swiftly went into it and pushed the button for 12th floor.
And the waiting begun and she quietly REALLY hoped that no one would call the elevator on her way. She was quite nervous and that made this ride feel far too long, but it also gave her time to think. Here she was, in the human world sending a letter to a human from a sinner that she is going to release from hell for a moment. On paper it sounded sweet, but fucking hell was this also creeping her out. What if someone Above finds out? What if something goes wrong? What if Moxxie gets hurt? That last part made her feel the worst. She saw how important it was to him, but for Satan sake she should have done something to convince him to change this plan... She should have-
"...Eh... No point in thinking about it now. I promised him I will help and I sure as hell will!" Millie tried to reassure herself.
*Bing*
Finally elevator stopped and it was one her desired floor, but once the doors started to open she saw a man on the other side. Rather old and not very tall person with glasses. At this sight Millie quickly jumped on the Elevator's ceiling and stuck to it with her claws all the while holding letters with her tail. That damn old man was taking his time in getting in and Millie was afraid that elevator doors would close soon and lo and behold they started to, but just before they closed she quickly did a few flips on the ceiling and ended up on the floors ceiling without old man seeing her. She was safe. And thankfully no people were around here either so she let go of the ceiling and fell gracefully on her feet. Now onto looking for the right door. The floor was rather clean, the walls had a orange like color and the doors in front of Millie were doors number 7 and she looked for number 11. She looked around and saw that to the left door numbers increased so she went there.
After a moment she was in front of doors number 11 and when rest of the floor was just clean enough those doors were REALLY damn clean. Like they were radiating with light, that's how clean they were. At first Millie was afraid to touch them because they looked like Angels light, but she had to take the risk and knocked on the door leaving a bit of a sign left from her hand. The plan was simple, someone opens the doors, she sneaks in through them and finds this Ariel's room. She heard footsteps in the house getting closer and closer to the doors and then she heard a womans voice.
"Who's there and did you use a glove?" Woman asked
Millie didn't answer and after a few seconds the woman opened the doors. She was a tall, a bit tan woman with black hair, thankfully for Millie she was looking around at first without looking down which allowed her to quickly get into the house unnoticed by her and the first thing Millie noticed is how clean this house was. It was absolutely ridiculous. The kitchen, the living room, other rooms, everything was just radiating with cleanness.
"OH MY GOODNESS!" The woman at the doors screamed, making Millie's heart stop for a moment.
But then she noticed that she just noticed the stain her hand left on the door
"THOSE DAMN KIDS!" she added as she took out a handkerchief from her pocket and started to furiously clean the door. It was the chance for Millie to go further and look for the girls room. The hallway was rather small and seemed to lead to different rooms and at the end of it was the entrance to living room where a small girl was sitting, watching also incredibly clean tv. That must have been Ariel and the room on the far right definitely looked like hers as Millie peeked into it. There were lots of toys there, many of them were in theme of cleaning. She also noticed some strange posters, one with half-fish, half human redhead woman and one with a white, square like robot with some kind of black thing connecting his arms who looked pretty pissed off. The sign on the poster was something like... Wall-e? Odd thing. But that was definitely it so she quietly went there and closed the door.
"Ah... Finally" She said quietly as she took out the letter for Ariel and put it on her bed that had a pattern of the ocean on it. "Now time to get out of-"
*SLAM*
Then she heard a loud slam and realized it was the doors. For fu-
"ARIEEEEL!" Woman calmly called for her daughter
"What mom?" Ariel asked her mom
"Did you clean your room?" She asked incredibly seriously
"Of course I did." Ariel answered defensively
"Did you clean EVERY part of your room?!" Mother asked her "Should I check it myself?!"
"...N..no, but Little Mermaid is-"
"I don't care! To your room and make sure it's as clean as possible!" She demanded
Dammit! Millie had to think of something. Get out of there somehow without her noticing... But she will have to clean every part of it so how... Wait. She noticed something. A ray of light hitting the door from behind her. Window! She had to be quick.
"... I miss dad..." Ariel said as she entered the room "huh?"
And the window to it was open for some reason, but nothing else seemed to be out of place. She got up to it and looked out. There was nothing so she closed the window. Unbeknown to her Millie was now hanging off of the building with her knife stabbed into it just so she wont fall. As she looked down only one thing came to her mind...
"I'm going to kill you Moxxie" She whispered angrily, but of course she didn't mean it, but this situation was most inconvenient.
All the while with Moxxie
Letter to Rosie
Rosie... My dear.
I know nothing I will say in this letter will be enough to repay for what I did to you. How I... Hit you back then.
I can't stop thinking about it. This memory haunts me every day and I want to apologize.
I want you to know that I would NEVER do something like this again... Never to someone like you. You were the sweetest girl in the entire classroom.
All those cookies you brought us. All the smiles you gave us. I wouldn't replace that for anything in the world. Our little Cookie Angel.
All I want is to see you again... To apologize to you in person and maybe... see a smile on your face again.
If you wish to see me again... Then meet me at the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m. and if you can't or don't want to... I want you to know that I will never forget you.
I'm so sorry... So sorry... For everything...
Moxxie was going through more suburban area. Going through it unnoticed was not that hard, there were not that many people on the streets here and Moxxie was mostly jumping through trees. It was mostly okay until sometimes he met a squirrel among the branches that was more often than not too keen on trying to bite into his eyes. But other than that the area was mostly peaceful, although sometimes Moxxie could hear some rather heated arguments from some houses he passed. Some were more serious than the others, but Moxxie tried to ignore them as best as he could and focus on his mission. At least compared to Imp City it was all rather peaceful which helped Moxxie not lose focus, but still some of those noises... He really wished that he could help.
"(Why do I always care so much?)" It baffled him... He was supposed to be an Imp from hell and yet... He could never really be one.
If God makes mistakes then his greatest one is making someone like you an Imp...
Was this true? Was he... a mistake? If so then... What is he supposed to be? But no... He couldn't distract himself like this. Not now. Finally he reached the house he was looking for. It was rather normal looking house. It wasn't very tall, it was of yellow color, there was a red car parked on the outside of it. Moxxie decided to look through his sniper rifle to get the better view of the house. He took it in case something went wrong, but this is also pretty good use for it. Moxxie looked at the windows of the house and saw on one of the upper floor glimpses of a very pink room with several toys on a shelf. Must have been Rosie's room. At least Mrs. Mayberry assured them that none of the kids she wants them to find have siblings so it made the job a bit easier. And he noticed something else. One of the windows were open. That was a good way to get into the house. Now that Moxxie verified his target he decided to jump down from the tree and go closer to the house. He made sure no one saw him and got to the open window that lead to the kitchen.
Through it Moxxie saw the kitchen and a tall woman with short brown hair in a pink shirt and blue pants. She was cooking something, but thankfully she didn't seem to notice him. Around the kitchen there was no one else and the It seemed like she was making some kind of cake and was now mixing some ingredients. The noise was pretty loud which was annoying, but it allowed Moxxie to sneak in without alerting anyone. He saw that on the left side was the entrance to the hallway and to the stairs so he quietly started heading there. In the hallway there were some jackets hanging and some family pictures. On many of them was a small girl with a very sweet smile and often a pink dress. Moxxie assumed this is Rosie.
"-om...MOM!" Then Moxxie heard the voice of a girl coming from upstairs
Moxxie had to hide quickly. So he went into one of the jackets and hid himself there, praying to Satan that she wont see him. But considering the lack of screaming and fear it seemed to have work. At least his Imp size was of some use. As Moxxie slightly peeked his head out of the piece of clothing he was now residing in he saw her. A small girl slowly moving down the stairs. She looked like the girl from the pictures, but with one major difference. There was a brace collar around her neck. This sight was... very sad for Moxxie because this is most likely the result of Mrs. Mayberry's actions. The girl's movements were slow and careful. She slowly went into the kitchen.
"What is it Rosie?" Mother of Rosie asked as she turned off the blender "You know you should be in your room."
"I just... want to help..." Rosie spoke in embarrassed tone "Can I cook with you?"
"Rosie..." Her mom knelt down "I don't want you to get hurt"
"And I DON'T want to spend even one more minute in my bed!" Rosie got a bit more aggressive
"It will just be necessary for a few more months..." She said as she touched her shoulder
"Mom... Please..." She asked in a very sad tone
"..." Her mom didn't answer for a moment "...Okay... But you will do what I say, okay?"
"YES!" Rosie jumped in excitement, but she quickly stopped and grabbed the brace "Ow ow..."
Both of them were now preoccupied. This was his chance. Moxxie quickly got down from the jacket and moved up the stairs. As he went up he saw Rosie's room was open. He swiftly went there and put the letter on her bed. Then he saw something. On one of the shelves where her toys were there was a picture. It was of her and several other children with a blonde woman in glasses, white shirt, black dress and very wide smile. The way she looked, it was definitely Mrs. Mayberry. It was strange... seeing her as a human. It made Moxxie clutch his part of the suit where he hid that piece of paper...
"... I hope it will work" he said to himself quietly as he went down the stairs. Thankfully both mom and Rosie were still preoccupied so they didn't notice Moxxie coming out. As Moxxie was about to move on he looked one last time at the little girl. She was smiling as she helped her mom cook. They were cooking cookies. It seemed to make her happy. Moxxie felt good seeing it and his thoughts immediately went back to Clara.
"(I'm sure she can forgive you...)" Then he thought of something else "(I just hope... you can forgive yourself...)
And so Moxxie moved on, thankfully with little issue... That is until his next house. But for now. Let's go back to Millie.
Letter to Albert
Albert. You always were one of a kind student.
Sometimes I couldn't tell what were you even doing there, listening to me. You were such an intelligent boy. In some aspects you could have been teaching me.
I still remember when I accidentally called you our Albert Newton. A silly mistake, but this mistake made me realize something.
You can be as great as both Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton combined. I just know it.
And I... never knew enough to stop myself from doing what I did.
I'm sorry... For putting your mind through something like this. You are just a child and I did something like this to you.
I can understand if you can never forgive me. All I want is to see you again.
Please... meet me at the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m. If you cannot or don't want to then... I understand.
But I will always cherish the times when I could further help your mind develop.
Millie approached the blue-ish block now. This time she had to go through sewers a bit more due to lack of any good places to hide in this part of the city, the stench was terrible and she could swear she heard some aligator like growls in the water. Thankfully she was able to finally get out of this stinking hole that made some toilets on Gluttony ring look habitable and was able to get out next to the block. Although this time instructions from Mrs. Mayberry were strange. In the note with the letter it said that she has to "Go to the basement and look for a console under the rug and type 0142." That was weirdly specific and Millie felt like something bad was about to happen, but she had to go... Well not really, but she was doing it for Moxxie, so obviously there was no choice on this matter.
So she quietly entered the block which was a bit harder due to there being much more people around. At one point she was almost seen by someone which made her jump into a nearby trashcan. Then as she was there she heard a voice.
"DAMN THIS FUCKING JOB!" A voice of a very angry man "Those damn DORKS! Why do they have to kidnap me EVERY time I try to deliver them some stupid letter!"
Then she felt something hitting top of her head. It was some piece of cloth.
"FUCK THIS! I'm not paid enough for this shit!" Angry man's voice was slowly fading away
Millie slightly peeked her head out and saw nobody nearby so she could now freely get out. She was covered in some trash and pieces of food which she quickly removed. It was nothing like playing in the mud with her sister, but she still felt like taking a long shower after all of that. Then she noticed something on her head. It was a blue hat. Then out of nowhere...
"Hello mailman" Some guy out of nowhere came up and moved passed her...
It was odd. He didn't seem to be scared of her or anything. Then a woman came from the building.
"Good day mailman" She said with a smile as she moved passed her
Wow... Either those people are REALLY dumb or this hat holds some secret powers of disguise. Well, Moxxie has his physics defying pants and now Millie has a disguise hat! Millie felt pretty proud now, but then she remembered about the letter and went into the block. It wasn't very different from the previous one she was in, but this one was a bit larger and it had stairs leading down. Millie figured this is where she has to go and went downstairs. On the bottom though she only found a single door with a strange monitor on their left side. She tried to do something with it, but nothing happened. She tried to open the door and they were surprisingly open. When she looked inside she only saw several brooms and other cleaning tools. She closed the doors and then noticed something. A blue carpet laying on the ground before the doors. It had strange cross on it made out of silver snakes that were coiling around each other. Odd symbol, but Millie didn't think of it that much and looked under the carpet and saw a little console with numbers from 0 to 9. Now comes the password 0142 and... Nothing... Nothing happened. But the console seemed to accept the code so...
*WRRRM*
Then Millie heard a strange sound coming from the doors behind her. She slowly opened them and... The storage with brooms was gone and what she saw a house filled to the brim with all kinds of strange machinery. No one seemed to be around the entrance thankfully, but she probably shouldn't worry about it too much now that she has her hat. Once she entered she could look at the lab in all it's glory. It was a room shrouded in blue light. The lab itself was a circular room, not too large, but still large enough to house pretty large amount of weird machines. At the center of the room was a strange table also in circular shape with all kinds of buttons and switched on it, Around the room there were shelves that had all kinds of machines and crafting tools on them and between them were doors leading to different parts of the house. On the one behind the circular table she saw a sign "Alberts Little World" that must have been the room she was looking for so she quietly moved up. Then
"Where did I put my glasses!?" A man's voice screamed from one of the rooms causing Millie to jump and suddenly fall on the table
The table that started shining and revealed all kinds of strange gibberish, Millie accidentally pressed something and this "computer" made some strange noises and showed an image of a folder getting erased.
"WHO'S THERE!?" A man screamed from behind the doors.
Millie in panic quickly run into the Kid's room, praying that he isn't there. She got in there at the last moment and closed the door. Thankfully no one was there. Then she heard the mans voice again
"Huh? Oh for all the... I just fixed this damn thing!" Man was clearly annoyed.
Millie opened the door slightly and saw him. A man with black skin, white coat, short black hair and glasses on his face. Wait... Didn't he said he was looking for them?
"Ugh... First my glasses are gone and now this..." The man seemed very sad about what was just erased and put a hand on his face then he seemed to realize "Wait! I had them on my face! ANOTHER SUCCESS OF DEXTER HILARY!"
This guy was clearly not all there in his head.
"Hmm... But my cure for cancer recipe has been deleted!" He declared as he looked at the screen
Wait what?
"Eh... Oh well. I guess going to convention for good scientists is out of the question now." He didn't seem to care "At least I still have my recipe for ultra cancer for evil scientists convention."
WHAT?!
"I need to ask Marie if she touched anything here." He declared as he went to another room, the one he went into looked like a kitchen from what Millie saw.
After this rather strange event she closed the doors again and put the letter on the bed. She also stared hearing muffled sounds of this man and a woman arguing, but she didn't really listen as she looked at the bed itself. It had all kinds constellations of stars on it. No, not on a fabric of the linen, but some kind of strange, moving image of stars and planets on the bedding. It almost made Millie's head spin. Around the room there were also all kinds of weird tools. One of them looked like a pretty dangerous, but REALLY small gun, another one was some sort of robot spider and there was even a adult sized robot in some kind of tube in this room. Millie didn't want to know what is this for and she wanted it to remain like that.
"Hey dad!" Then a voice from that weird laboratory hallway was heard. A voice of a kid. Oh shit... "Where are you?"
Millie again went to the door a little to see the outside. She saw the kid. He looked similar to his dad, had a blue shirt with red bowtie, yellow pants and a backpack
"We are in the kitchen. Your mom needs to explain some things!" Dexter said and then a loud slap was heard from there "Ow..."
"What happened now?" Albert said as he entered there which gave Millie the chance to go out
As she was quietly moving away again she saw the computer was still on and remembered what that Dexter scientist said. So she tried her luck and bumped it again, this time a bit harder with a fist, another file seemed to be erased. She hoped it was the right one. And quickly went out as the computer made that noise again. She still though could hear from the outside Dr. Dexter.
"AGAIN!? Now Ultra Cancer is gone! Dammit, must be one of those damn Dorks, probably hacked in here. I only pointed out to those idiots that their name is LITERALLY FUCKING DORKS!" Dexter was now ranting "Now... I need to find my gloves!"
Millie remembered that he had them on him. Mr. Hilary is one clueless man. And so she went to her last house. But back to Moxxie.
Letter to Eddie
My dear Eddie...
You were always a great pillar of strength for us... and for me.
Despite being so young you were the one that was never afraid to say what you think and always you stood up when someone was threatening one of your fellow students.
And now... I feel like one of those people you would stand up against. I did something terrible to all of you and... I can't expect you to ever forgive me.
But if there is one thing I want to say... I still remember how you always said you want to be a soldier...
Please Eddie... Don't do that... I know I said it many times before, but this time I... have new perspective on things that further reinforces my belief.
What you may have to do there... I don't want you to end up where I am... Please... I know you wanted to be called a Soldier Boy, but that is not for you.
You more than anyone I need to meet. At the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m. Please... you need to come there.
Please...
Moxxie didn't exactly know how he got here. One moment he was in a peaceful suburban area and a moment later he wind up nearby a strange farm. Somehow this place was closer to him than the other one and that's when it hit Moxxie that maybe Mrs. Mayberry probably mixed up who should get what kind of job. This was definitely more in Millie's spirit considering how long she lived there. Moxxie on the other hand relatively quickly moved away from his own farm. Not because he had something against his family, Satan forbid no. He loved them... But he felt like he was being a burden. Their financial situation started to get worse and they were basically pushing him to find a better place to live.
Now that he looked at this farm... the old regret started flowing back to him. Why didn't he push against it? Why didn't he stay to help them? Even if adopted they are his only real family he had. But... If he didn't go away then... he would have never met Millie. That thought made this a bit easier, but not enough to completely make him feel better. If they get the chance Moxxie will definitely go visit them again, but definitely without Blitzo and Loona, he would shoot Blitzo at the first chance he got if he ever tried to pull any trick on them. That's why it's for the better if he keeps them away. Besides... His dad... How would he feel that he is an assassin? He wanted him to only fight in self defense and now... No... Nonono... Now was NOT the time to indulge in self pity. He had to do something GOOD for once! His focus came back as he looked at the farm.
It wasn't very big. The house of the family was just one floor house, there was a blonde woman sitting in a chair on the front and a VERY big man working now in his field which Moxxie still had no idea how it fitted in this city. There was also rather strong looking blonde kid feeding the animals in a barn. That must have been Eddie. Thankfully everyone here seemed to be busy enough to not notice him so he moved a bit from the shadow of the trees he was hiding under. Some animals seemed to have noticed him, but no one seemed to pay heed to their reactions for now and he moved slowly around the house. Sadly this time all windows were closed, but through one he noticed bunch of toy soldiers on a cupboard and a big poster of a soldier on the wall and some trophies for sport accomplishments with name Eddie on it on shelves. Definitely Eddie's room.
Going through the doors was rather dangerous due to that woman so Moxxie had to go for the more bulglar-like ways. He pulled out a crowbar he had in his pants in case of being out of bullets and put a bit of pressure on the window. It took a bit of trying, but finally the doors gave in and opened. Moxxie quickly his the crowbar back in his pants and then it hit him how REALLY weird they are. How are they holding so many things in them? He wondered why Millie never commented on it. Seems like a pretty important thing to point out, but whatever he will think about it later... About... what? Huh... He already forgot. Must have been unimportant.
Moxxie quickly regained focus and put the letter on the kids bed that was laying under the window or rather he would if the bed didn't stink like it did so he went for putting it on a cupboard where there was a photo of him, his classmates and Clara. Seems like he still deeply cares about them despite what happened. That made Moxxie happy.
*CLICK*
And then this moment of content turned into utter fear as he heard clicking of a loaded gun behind him and as he looked behind he saw... Eddie. With a shotgun. Pointed right at him. And Eddie himself had mix of disgust and fear in his eyes.
"MA! PA! RED POSSUM IN THE HOUSE!"
"(Wait... Possum?)"
*SHOOT*
Before Moxxie could understand what the hell was going on he was shot at by Eddie which Moxxie instinctively dodged. He quickly jumped out of the window.
"IT'S RUNNIN AWAY!" Eddie screamed loudly
Then Moxxie saw the woman from the chair quickly get up and pull out an even bigger shotgun and start blasting at him. Moxxie was now scared like never before and started running frantically. For some reason he started to run on all fours too, making him look even more like a possum.
*SHOOT**SHOOT**SHOOT*
Then another few shots came at Moxxie. This time from the father who was now shooting from damn revolver at him. Moxxie was running in more Zig Zag fasion to better avoid the bullets.
"THAT'S SOME FINE POSSUM!" Pa of Eddie screamed as he kept shooting at terrified Moxxie.
"BET IT TASTES LIKE HEAVEN HONEY!" Psychotic wife screamed too shooting at Moxxie too and even scratching his left hand with one bullet.
"Shit! I guess that's how Blitzo felt like back then." Moxxie just hoped it wouldn't end in the same way. "(DAMN IT! DON'T THINK ABOUT IT NOW!)
Moxxie mentally slapped himself as he kept running. Finally he reached the trees and he kept running and running. It went on for a while. most likely 10 minutes until he realized that there were no more shots coming at him. As he looked back he saw no one. No shots, no screaming, no searching... Just him in this... weirdly placed small forest. This made Moxxie relax and sit under a nearby tree. He was safe... And now the thought of that family came back.
"Shit..." Moxxie said quietly
He took out Teddy Bear head he was keeping in his other pocket. As he looked at it all the worst feelings came back to him... Of what he allowed to happen...
"Never again..." Moxxie promised himself... "Never..."
Now he wondered... What if he has a family with Millie too? In fact... It's something he wants more than anything in either heaven or hell. But... how can he wish for it? Actually... How many lives he took that... had families that will miss them? No... Maybe Mrs. Mayberry was wrong... He was meant to be an imp... But a worse one... Worse than any other. Ultimate mockery of this life... and every other. An Imp that wishes for something he always takes away...
"Kshhh" Moxxie then felt the pain in his left arm.
The blood was still coming out. He had to get it fixed. he could use the book now, but he had to push forward. Just send this last letter, meet with Millie and get back... Then come back to make sure the kids go there safely. But this made him wonder... He puts his life on the line here... But why? Is it because he genuinely wants to help or... to atone for his own sin... and think better of himself? Was it him being selfless or... selfish... Then he remembered. That newspaper. He pulled it out again and he knew... This is what he now puts his life on the line for... The reward.
"I hope it will work..." Moxxie said to himself as he put the piece of newspaper and head of teddy bear back in pockets of his tuxedo and moved on... Onto his last house. Meanwhile with Millie.
Letter to Kevin
Kevin... You were always our little troublemaker. Perpetual Donkey...
But I still loved you like every other student. Even with your behavior I could tell you were a smart and kind child... You were just growing up faster than the others.
As many times as you annoyed others or tried to cheat on your tests... I never gave up on you. And I don't regret it.
But... What I regret is what I put you through... What... You may become because of it.
I'm writing this to you because I truly care about you.
Sometimes I yelled at you, sometimes I put you in the corner, but... I never wanted to hurt you.
That's why writing this feels the hardest to me... For how harsh I could be to you. I'm sorry... For everything.
If you want... you can meet me today the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m.
For all the troubles you caused, you are still one of my most cherished memories.
Millie was now at least able to move through the streets without trouble aside from stinking like trash and sewers. Although it was strange to hear everyone call her a mailman and sometimes asked her about the letters for them which she obviously didn't have... But it did made her think about possible roleplay sessions she could have with Moxxie with this, but she still had one more house to go and she couldn't let her focus disappear now. But soon enough she found the address on the letter. The house that it pointed to looked... less than ideal. There were few broken windows, lots of dogs barking, lots of arguing. This block was special because this one had a small tunnel in middle of which was the entrance to the block and on the other side of it was sort of courtyard where kids were playing.
She quickly went up the stairs. Not being bothered by anyone she went up to the 4th floor of the house. It was not pretty place. The paint was practically coming off the walls. There were lots of insects and webs everywhere... It definitely was the part of the city that reminded her the most of her and Moxxie's house in Imp City. She went up to the doors with number 10 on it and knocked... then knocked again... No response... No one was in the house it seems.
*thud*
But wait... She could hear something move there. Something large. That must have been a human. So she knocked again... And again. Nothing. She finally got a bit irritated and knocked with more force
*KNOCK* *KNOCK* *BREAK*
Then the doors gave out and fell into the house. Millie was stunned for a moment, then scared as she looked around to make sure no one has seen it and then a slight relief when she saw that no one did and seemingly no one cared. So she went in... And what she saw was...
"Damn..." She said as she saw it
A ruin... A filthy place with broken windows, most furniture gone, with lots of nasty insects crawling everywhere... It was like walking into an empty apartment across from their apartment in Imp City. The only different thing was instead of having 3 drunk hellhounds constantly sleeping there there was one, fat, homeless person sleeping on the ground in a filthy greenish shirt, blue pants and red hat. There were LOTS of bottles lying around. This man's snoring was so loud it almost made her think it was shaking what remains of this places windows. As she came closer to him she shook him slightly with her hand. She was already covered in sewer filth so was touching one bum REALLY that bad at this point? But the bum didn't wake up. She tried again. Same effect. So...
*SLAP*
Drastic measures had to be taken and she slapped him on his bearded face. He didn't seem to even feel that. Then Millie got the idea of asking someone else in this house. So she quietly left this place, but then
*creaaaak*
One piece of wood made a quiet noise
"FOR FACKH SAKHE WITH YA PEPOL!" And the Bum woke up for a moment and threw a bottle at the wall and then quickly went back to sleep
"Hell is weirdly similar to this world..." She said quietly, then she realized "So... is hell basically this world going on forever?"
That thought was weird... But she quickly discarded it and went down the stairs again to the courtyard. She saw an adult overseeing the children
"Umm... Excuse me miss..." Millie tried to gain her attention... Shit this was probably the first time she was about to speak with a human... It felt odd.
'Hmm... Is something the problem mailman?" Woman asked oblivious to Millie's real self
"Well... I wanted to ask about the family from house number 10..." She pointed at the house behind them "Do you know where they are? I have a letter and..."
"Must have been some VERY late letter huh?" She said in a mocking tone "They moved out few months ago."
"Huh?" Millie was surprised by this news "Moved out?"
"Yeah... I heard their son got panic attacks whenever he saw the school he was going to so they moved out of town..." She explain without care "Probably fault of that crazy bitch"
"Wait... Bitch?" Millie figured it was about mrs. Mayberry, but... bitch?
"Yeah. Crazy bitch slaughtered her husband, injured a woman, offed herself and livestreamed all of it to her students. Bitch was fucked up!" She said with hint of disgust in her voice
"Wh- That's not what happened!" Even if Millie didn't know Mrs. Mayberry she had to stand up for her "Her husband cheated on her and-"
"Listen... I don't care about why she did it or how she felt... The bitch just offed her husband like it was nothing in front of bunch of children, even hit one of them I heard... How am I supposed to call her anything, but a bitch?" Her question was... hard.
And Millie didn't have a good answer here. It was true. What she did was... very drastic. Would... Millie act the same if Moxxie... No... Moxxie would NEVER do that, but... what if he did? No... She would never harm him. Not even if both Lucifer and God came down and told her to. She would rather tell both of them to FUCK OFF to both of their faces... So... now Millie was confused...
"*sigh* Listen... I get that she may have been angry... but what matters is what we do with that anger... What we do with our lives... Because that is how we shape those around us as well" She said "Look at those kids."
Millie did. There were 6 of them, 2 girls and 4 boys. They were playing with water guns and seemed to have great deal of fun.
"2 of those are mine... We live how we live, but I cannot let it influence how I raise them." She explained "My life is part of their life... And I can't let my failings to be theirs. I can't imagine hurting them and doing anything, but the best for them"
The woman's voice became a bit more somber... But Millie seemed to understand. And made her think about herself and Moxxie. What if... they have children? Will they be able to raise them well? Millie would try her hardest and she knows Moxxie would too but... So many things could happen. But she had to keep herself steady.
"I... Thanks..." Millie said "I hope... it will get better for all of you."
"... Thank you young lady..." She said in a much nicer tone "I hope things will be better for you two as well."
Millie just smiled at that and moved away from this block leaving the lady behind. Back to the cemetery, but then after a few minutes she realized something...
"Wait... Two?" She turned back, but at this point she was a bit far away from the house and it was getting closer to the evening. "Did she... No... Must have been my imagination..."
And so she moved forward... But that event was... extremely odd. That woman called her a lady and... Did she knew? But it didn't matter now... As strange as it was. Somehow Millie knew... it was okay. Her thoughts though came back to Moxxie. And so did the story.
Letter to Simon
Simon... Of all of them I miss you the most... And that's why I feel like our meeting would be one of the hardest.
You were always kind, empathetic, always willing to help even when you didn't know how.
And that sweet dog of yours, Danny... I will never forget the days where you were bringing him. It made every sad day far happier one.
I always wished to one day have a son like you... But it was never meant to be... Not with me.
That's why it feels so hard for me to write this...
I'm sorry... For all of it. For hurting you like I did.
I dearly miss you and yet... I don't know if I can face you again... It feels like writing to my own child from prison...
You were always our Happy Guardian... You always were very important to us and to me... I want you to know that.
If you wish to see me again come to the Cemetery at 1.00 a.m.
I will be there... And if you wont come then... Maybe that's for the better.
Moxxie was finally almost at the end of this journey. His arm was temporarily fixed with a crude bandaid he found on the street, but it was enough to stop bleeding, but climbing on treest with it proved itself to be a hard endeavor. He definitely hoped there would be no more not so funny accidents like the one on the farm. And thankfully this house looked very similar to the first one he visited. It almost looked like it was going to be easy, but as he looked through his rifle's lens he saw on the 1st floor... a Dog... A rather big husky dog in color of white... That's when Moxxie realized that he probably has to go into it in the same way he did at the farm. Going through the doors was out of the question. As Moxxie looked at the windows he saw one room that looked the most like a kids room given all the toys on the shelves and some children's books. So Moxxie got to it.
His tree was rather close to the house and one of the branches was pointing at the window of this room. Moxxie slowly braced himself and in his mind begged whatever deity that watched this that he wont fuck it up... Wait... Is some diety watches it then... Shouldn't he be dead at this point? Okay... So he was alone... That's what he hoped. So he begged his body to not screw this up. Closed his eyes, took a deep breath, counted to three. And then... he jumped. Of course he opened his eyes before it. And he flew through the air in this moment and just barely managed to catch onto the window. He hoped he didn't made any noise while doing it, but lack of rucus from the dog indicated that he did okay. So he tried to pull himself up which was VERY painful with his arm and stood on windowsill.
Then he pulled out his crowbar again and pushed. This window though was far harder to move and Moxxie's arm and his need to not make any noise made it FAR more difficult. He cursed his lack of strength for a bit, but finally he managed to do it. The window quietly let go and he moved into the room. What he found there was... odd. There was no one there, which was good for him, but it was almost evening so... Where was Simon? The room itself was also pretty dusty, making Moxxie leave some footprints on the floor. Everything was covered in dust... As if no one came here in a long while. Moxxie didn't exactly understood what was going on... But he had to do his job and
*BARK* *BARK* *BARK*
Suddenly the dog started barking just outside the doors. Moxxie was now in full panic mode and was about to jump out of the window, but then he heard someone else's footsteps
"DANNY STOP!" A mans voice was heard who was clearly annoyed at the dog. But the dog kept barking. Moxxie knew he had to go.
Then suddenly a VERY weird noise attacked Moxxie's ears. He had to hold himself back from screaming as this new weird noise assaulted his ears. The Dog seemed to react in the same way and stopped barking. Now Danny just whimpered.
"I...I'm sorry" The man said and sound of scracthing could be now heard. Danny seemed to be more happy after that "Don't worry... I miss him too."
Ahh... Now Moxxie knew... Kid must have moved away for a while. Probably with his mom too. It was most likely in order to help the kid get better. Still odd he left the dog, but... Moxxie wasn't there to judge them... Seems like sadly this message wont be send. So Moxxie put it in his tuxedos pocket and went out the window. All the while scrapping his footprints from the floor with his tail. He carefully went down.
"Wowowow" Moxxie started to say quietly as he tried to climb down
And he quickly lost balance and fell into a bush. Thankfully he still kept himself from making too many noises. But still he quickly went away from there before the owner of the house and his dog would see him.
Now he was on his way back to the cemetery to discuss with Millie what to do next. Evening was drawing near and most likely all the kids that got the letters already read them. Finally Moxxie reached the cemetery, it was nice to see it again after this journey. He sat on the bench there. But then he saw someone go through the gate. OH SHIT! A human mailman!
"MOXXIE!" Who apparently also knew his name
"Uhh... Excuse me sir?" Moxxie was confused.
"Wait... You don't recognize me?" mailman said as he removed his hat revealing... MILLIE!
"MILLIE!? How did you do that!?" Moxxie asked, flabbergasted about her disguise skills. Then he covered his nose for a moment "Also why do you smell so bad"
"Umm... Latter part is a long story. As for he former... Do I really look that different in it?" She asked as she put on the hat again
"Hmmm... not really. Now that I saw you put it on..." Moxxie admitted while slowly uncovering his nose, although the smell still seemed to bother him "This hat just gives off the energy that makes me convinced you are a mailman"
That was... odd to say the least
"Okay... Let's try again" She said in a tired tone as she put off the hat "How did you do?"
"Good. I send 2 letters... Sadly one kid moved away." Moxxie said in a slightly happy tone
"Ohh! That's great! I also got two-o-o OH MY SATAN! MOXXIE YOUR ARM!" Millie pointed at the bleeding arm of Moxxie in a bandaid.
"Oh yeah... Hehe... I got some farmers shoot at me while I was delivering one letter..." He was rather embarrassed about it all the while Millie looked horrified.
"Moxxie! Open the portal! We need to do something with it!" She grabbed him by his arms
"Ouch!" Moxxie screamed as she touched his left arm, making her let go immediately "O-okay... Maybe you're right. But we need to talk about this weird hat later"
"Only when you talk about those pants that are way too good at hiding what's down there." Millie reciprocated
"What?" Moxxie didn't understand
"..." Millie gave up "Just open the portal"
Moxxie nodded and pulled out the book and opened the portal to the main room of I.M.P.. As they went in they saw Loona at the desk and... Mrs. Mayberry next to her. Loona was listening to some music and Mrs. Mayberry seemed quite happy to see them.
"You are finally here!" She hugged them, but once she noticed the smell of Millie she quickly let them go "How did it go?"
"Can't talk now! Moxxie's hurt!" Millie quickly replied as she took Moxxie to Blitzo's office where there was a medkit
"Wh-what happened!?" Clara quickly went behind them into the room. There she saw a slight bullet wound on his arm "Oh... It was Eddie's family wasn't it?" She seemed embarrassed.
"Yeah... But I did leave the letter." Moxxie answered with no animosity
"Oh... Thank you." She seemed really moved by it "How many did you send them to?"
"4" Both of them replied at the same time
"Kevin moved away miss" Millie said
"Simon too" Moxxie continued, clearly disappointed.
"..." She didn't say anything for a moment, just looked at the ground "Yeah... It was bound not to reach some of them..."
"But... once we get Moxxie fixed we will get to making sure they reach cemetery" Millie said as she tented to her husband. Moxxie just nodded.
"You know..." Clara started as she covered her nose "Maybe you should take care of your... smell too."
"Don't worry! I'll clean myself once kids are safe!" Millie's answer made Clara smile.
"Great..." But she didn't seem to be as enthusiastic about it and Moxxie noticed
"You are scared..." Moxxie said to her.
"...Yes." She admitted. Her voice was full of shame and regret, but her eyes were filled with burning determination "But we already got this far! I wont give up now!"
Moxxie and Millie smiled at her answer. And Loona was listening too, from outside. Moxxie noticed that and it made him feel happy too.
"(I hope it all works out in the end...)" He thought to himself as the final part of their plan was about to begin.
TBC in chapter 4
"You deserve better"
It was LONG chapter, but I think it got to the point well. And fun fact. There is one thing in here I DIDN'T plan to add, but it basically came in naturally. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and be ready for next and final chapter (I think). Hopefully it will come out sooner.
