III
It's late in the afternoon when Harry begins his new adventurer with better clothes and equipment, and he is more than enthusiastic to go inside the dungeon and try out his newly acquired weapon, courtesy Miss Eina.
By all means, he doesn't have the highest quality of clothes or armor nor does he own an expensive-looking weapon. The clothes he wears were bargained and bought from a clothing store while the sword he has in his possession is a low-grade shortsword, a standard weapon provided by the guild to newbie adventurers.
In comparison, his things may look like they don't seem much to others but for someone who had his memories completely blanked out, it means one step forward to his continuing life in this unfamiliar world, after all, he is now an adventurer right?
He hasn't joined a familiar though but that's a concern for later. For now, his goal for the day is testing out his ability to fight monsters without relying on his magic.
The game plan is simple. Harry will fight first the lower-level monster on the surface parts of the dungeon and he'll see how it goes. If it appears that he can handle himself against the monsters on a particular floor he can start considering descending a floor lower, and then do the same thing he's done from the previous floor until he'll reach his physical limit and call it a day and proceeds training for the next day.
Sounds simple, doesn't it?
Somewhere on the 4th floor, a duo of passing adventures spots a lone figure surrounded by a pack Kobold, " Waah, a pincer attack? Unlucky," the male fighter of the group nonchalantly says while his partner beside him gives him a stern glare, it shut him up-a wise decision, then looks over the fighting adventurer contemplating.
" They are a lot more than the usual, I think it's better we help the person, nine kobold monsters even if they are lower level is still a lot for level one. Ray, help him out."
"Haaah?!" Ray cries out disbelievingly,
"Why don't you help zap those bastards with your magic or something," he protested.
" I think my magic will only cause trouble than help on this floor, espcially when the person is at a range that might harm the person as well. Its only logical you will help anf besides, yours is very useful in closed areas" Lyna persuades, and judging by the conflict expressed in his face, it seems to work.
"Fine. Whatever." He relents, " But, I'll have to ask the kid first if he refuses I will not insist, " he warns her and walks toward the battlefield, facing the backside of the monster as they are too preoccupied to notice the adventurer behind them.
He looks over the crowd at the center where the person has himself or herself surrounded, and when he sees the figure he definitely is not expecting a boy behind the sword. The Brawler mutters his profanities as he hastily makes his move.
From where he stands, Ray takes a deep breath then yells, " Hey kid, need a hand over here?" The nearby Kobolds' ears perk alarmingly at the sounded noise behind them and when the monsters finally notice the second presence a small group of Kobold charge after him.
There are a total of 9 Kobold monsters surrounding him, three separated from the group and switch their target to Ray.
The experienced adventurer waits for the rookie adventurer while dodging the offending charges with swift and precision that two of the Kobolds have somehow managed to bump their snout against each other.
Despite his indignant reaction at Ina's 'suggestion he's not so heartless to refuse when a person's life is at stake. Ray has a bad personality, but he is not a scum.
" I ain't got much patience kid." he warns the rookie and manages to trip a Kobold causing it to fall on the ground, its not yet dead though.
There's an unwritten rule among the adventurers to never interfere with a fellow adventurers' prey unless the said person gave his permission to interfere, and judging by how he is struggling, he can slightly hear the shallow breaths from him, it would be very stupid for this one to refuse help. Not in this rate.
Then, a soft, slightly pitched voice calls out, " Oh, its alright, I can manage- oof " a cub stuck him, yet, he stubbornly persist. Then, he adds, " Appreciate the offer!" As if the kid didn't just disprove his statement any further.
"Are you serious right now?!" " Yep!"
It turns out, the kid is an idiot.
