Watching as the door to the bullpen slammed closed behind Mike, cracking the glass in the door, Steve ran his trembling hand through his hair before dropping it to his side and turning back to pick up his mug of coffee.
"Mike's taking it hard." Lee said softly as he joined the younger man at the coffee table.
"Did you expect him to take it any other way?!" Steve snapped. Taking a deep shuddering breath, he turned around and leaned back against the table before casting an apologetic sideward glance at his friend, "Sorry, didn't mean to snap at you."
"Don't worry about it, Man," Lee reassured him, dropping a couple of coins into the coffee jar, and making himself a mug of coffee as he added, "This is rough on everyone."
'Especially for Mike!' Steve added silently to himself as he took a small sip of the bitter tasting coffee, regretting losing his temper with Mike.
"So, what next?" Lee asked softly as he picked up his mug before he turned around and leaned against the table, taking a sip of coffee as he waited for Steve's answer.
Lowing his mug, Steve stared across at the closed bullpen door, "Jeannie will probably be arraigned in a couple of hours. I want you and Bill to be there when it happens to support Mike. When you speak to the DA about the case, make sure that the D.A. knows that we don't consider Jeannie to be a flight risk and that we have no objections to bail. Also, I want you to try to find out both Jeannie's and Solace's movements after they arrived in San Francisco. I want to know where they went, who they spoke to and the hopefully find out some reason why Jeannie's lying."
"What about you?" Lee asked, turning to look at the younger inspector.
Glancing down at his watch before looking back up at Lee, Steve announced, "I'm going to give the chief and Rudy a call and fill them in on what's going on and get Rudy's permission to catch the next plane to Arizona. I want to talk to some of Jeannie's and Solace's friends and find out if there was something going on between the two of them that Mike and we don't know about."
"They're not going to be happy about getting woken up at four o'clock in the morning," Lee warned him.
After half turning and placing his half-finished mug of coffee back down on the table behind him, Steve turned back to Lee. "They're going to be even more unhappy that we didn't call them and let them know what was happening and warn them that we were arresting Jeannie for murder."
Lee swallowed hard and nodded in agreement as Steve pushed himself away from the table and headed towards his desk to make the phone calls that he knew he needed to make.

Storming out into the corridor, Mike stopped as he saw the elevator door closed behind Jeannie, Bill and Tom Hawkins as Bill escorted Jeannie, who was now in handcuffs, to the holding cells. He felt the surge of adrenaline, which had been surging through him since Steve had broken the news of Jeannie's arrest, suddenly drain away as Jeannie disappear from his sight, leaving him feeling shaky, nauseous and weak. Leaning against the wall for support, he found himself slowly sliding down the wall until he was sitting on the floor, his legs suddenly too weak to hold him. A hot tear trickled down the side of his face as he prayed for someone to wake him up from this nightmare.
