Chapter 3- Meeting the Team
Avengers compound
Rainy night
After hearing Barry's story on how he got here, Steve feels even more sympathy for him. Getting sent to a world you have no recognition of is something Steve can relate to.
Barry just sits on the bed, eating some food a nurse brought in moments after Barry and Steve had an introduction.
He just picks at his food and Steve just looks at him, worriedly.
"You alright there, Kid?" Steve asks.
"Well lets see; I'm trapped on another earth, have no way home, and my friends hate me. And to top that off, I've been shot and put some guy I don't know in a coma. What do you think?" Barry aggravatingly says and Steve just makes a face.
He understands Barry's outbreak, it's hard to accept some things that seem highly unlikely, but that's life. Doesn't mean he needs to take it out on him.
"Barry," Steve warned.
He took a breath before he stops picking at his food. "I'm sorry, Steve. I just can't seem to understand why I'm the one being punished." Barry apologetically states.
Steve narrows his eyes. "You think you're being punished? Why?" He confusedly asks and Barry looks up at him.
"Cause of my powers. I used to think it was gift. That I was chosen. But now I feel like it's a...curse," Barry pauses then says, "After all the death I've been through, all my pain, all my suffering it's all because I was given these powers," Barry says and Steve slowly nods.
He stares at Barry for a moment. "Okay...Look, Barry these powers aren't curses. There just circumstances played out by the givers to the receivers, we all have had some challenges and deaths but that's what makes up heroes. We fall down, we get back up and we learn, especially from mistakes. We're not gods Barry. We're just human who wants to make the world a safe place. Remember that," Steve wisely says and Barry just lightly grins.
Hearing Steve say that reminds Barry about all the supporting things Oliver, Jay and Joe would ever say if Barry was feeling down of if he was too hard on himself.
"Thanks, Steve. I needed to hear that," Barry says with a smile and Steve puts his hand on his shoulder.
"Anytime. But I think it's time you get out of this depressing room and come with me. We could go meet the team," Steve suggested and puts his hands down with Barry nodding with a smile but then his minds goes somewhere else.
Opening a breach in Central City and going through.
Getting locked in the cell with Steve and a red haired girl looking at him.
A man and Barry laughing about something the archer, Clint says about a hammer.
Barry smiling as he shakes someone's hand in front of an apartment complex
Barry meeting some burnette in a Diner.
"Barry, are you alright?" Steve asks concerning as he seemed to zone out.
"Uh Yeah, I'm fine," Barry lied, wondering what the hell just happened.
"Okay so let's go," Steve says as he motions to the doorway where the figure that was standing there suddenly disappears.
As Barry slowly gets out of bed, Barry pipes up and says, "Uh wasn't there a person there just a minute ago?" He asks, hoping he's not going insane.
"Yes, there was. She's one of people you will be meeting today," Steve says. Barry lets out a sigh of relief that seemed to confuse him. "You sure your alright?" Steve asks again, waiting for a real answer.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I don't know maybe me being on another earth and meeting new people is kinda getting to me," Barry says dryly and Steve nods, knowing that's not the truth but doesn't pressure him since they just met.
They both walk out of the room and Into the hallway where the windows next to them was making a sound due to the heavy rain hitting the glass.
As they walk further down the hallway, Steve pipes up and says, "Just remember; the secret is to think optimistically," Steve says which causes Barry to crackle a grin.
They make their way to the living room that also sort of looks like a kitchen. A number of people are seated on the couches. Three men, a woman, and a pink humanoid robot.
"Avengers," Steve says. Everyone in the room turns to face them.
"I believe it is past time for you all to meet and thank the hero who rescued Clint," Steve suggests.
They all rise to their feet. One of the men, a man with blonde hair and a beard who is clothed in odd armour and a red robe, moves up to Barry and smiles as he places his hand on his shoulder.
"It's nice to meet you. We are forever in your gratitude for what you've done for Barton. Thank you," the chiseled man says gratefully.
Barry nods. "You're welcome. Whats your name?" Barry asks before he holds out his hand.
"I am Thor Odinson. Prince of Asgard, and the next to muster the All-Father and throne," Thor says as he shakes Barry's hands firmly, not wanting to break his hand.
Barry knows all too much about people with super strength and their capabilities to cause pain when they don't mean to. Put a sock in it, Kara Danvers.
Barry's eyes widen with a big grin. "Wait as in the Thor; god of Lightning and Thunder, from Norse mythology, and Odinson?" he asks.
"Ahh so you are familiar with me," Thor says and Barry nods.
Barry just kinda stands there for a second, speechless. Finally, he says, "Honestly, not the weirdest thing I've seen or heard today," This elicits a few chuckles.
The others rise and make their way over. "I'm Sam Wilson. Some people call me Falcon." Sam says as he shakes Barry's hand.
The third man shakes Barry's hand with a big grin. "I'm James Rhodes, US Air Force," one of the other men says as he shakes Barry's hand. "I'm known as the War Machine."
"Thank you for your service, sir," Barry says but Rhodey just shakes his head.
"No. You don't have to do all that, we're all good," Rhodey reassured him and Barry nods with a smile.
"Guys, you're making him feel bad," a red haired woman says before shaking Barry's hand. "Natasha Romanoff. But my friends call me Nat. I'm also known as the Black Widow," Natasha says and Barry nods, now knowing who the other person was in the medbay with Steve when he first woke up.
"Bad ass name. I like it," Barry says with a smile and Natasha returns one back.
And the last one to meet the scarlet speedster was a pink humanoid robot who floats over, and in an accent that can be only British or European, says, "Nice to be acquainted. I am the Vision." Even though it's sort of human, it was still a little weird saying 'hello' back.
"Is that all of you?" Barry asks as he realized they were the only people in the room.
Steve smiles. "No. No, we have a few more of our guys that aren't here. Clint is with his family. After retirement, he just needs the simple life. Tony is with Pepper looking at houses to live together up at the Avengers tower in New York. And Wanda...She's the sister of Pietro and is with him in another room of the compound.
After hearing about Pietro and learning he has a sister, he nods somely, guilty sentiments increasing as he realizes he wasn't fast enough, injuring someone who someone deeply cares about him, which seems to be a normal thing for Barry.
Barry looks down but was brought out of it when Steve says, "Since you know everyone's name, it would be fitting you tell them yours, right?" Barry grins then turns to the team.
"My name is Barry Allen. And by day and night the city knows me as the Flash; the fastest man alive. But here's the thing; I'm...kinda stuck on your earth,"
After hearing that last part, everyone all look so confused and speechless. Well except Thor and Vision, who doesn't even seem phased.
Rhodey walks up to Barry with his eyes closed for a split second then opens them back up. "Wait...I'm sorry go back, did you just say 'stuck on your earth' are you implying that theres more than one?" Rhodey asks and Barry nods.
"Well, if you ever heard of the multiverse and know about the infinite possibilities of parallels earths, then you are correct. There are indeed multiple earths, and I'm one of them- not like I'm a living earth- but I'm a human- not alien- but I'm a human from Earth-1" Barry says, sometimes rambling due to the looks everyone gives him when he explains the multiverse.
After he was done, they all sit there for a moment, not knowing how to respond. Then, Thor says, "he is indeed telling the truth," Barry and the team all look at Thor as he walks over to the kitchen to pour himself some milk. "There are multiple realities across the nine realms all linked to the fabric of the universe where my father has told me about the infinite parallels planets," Thor takes a sip of his drink then says, "The earths are all together, but the vibration of the frequency is able to keep it hidden from our earth to see it," the team then all nod as they get a better understanding of how it works and why they can't see it.
"This is a significant step forward in the field of physics and astronomy," Vision says intrigued before he begins to head out of the room. "I must study it further to understand more about the multiverse." And with that, Vision had left the living room/kitchen.
Barry stays silent for a moment then looks at Steve. "Could we see him? Please?" Barry warmly says and Steve nods with a grin.
"Guys keep doing what you're doing, I'm going to take Barry around the facility and see a certain hero, we'll be back soon," he says. He and Barry then walk out of the room and back into the hallways
As they leave the room, Barry asks somberly, "Did he have any...other family besides his sister?"
Steve glances at him and keeps on walking as he says, supportively, "He used to. Back in Sokovia, around the 1990s Pietro and his sister were one day in their home when suddenly...it blew up, killing his parents. His sister and him were orphaned and on the run, that was until I conceived them to turn a new leaf and to join us. After they joined us, we figured out Ultron's plan and went to stop him in Sokovia which is why we were there," that's when Barry's head goes somewhere else again.

Barry was out of his thoughts when Steve asks, "Hey, you okay?" Barry nods but his expression is giving off a look that can be shown as a lie, though Steve didn't know it wasn't the look he was thinking. As he is about to open a door that they approached as Barry was zoning off, Steve looks at him and says, "Don't blame yourself, you had no idea what was gonna happen," Barry takes a breath before nodding and Steve begins to turn the knob and pry the door open.
When they walk in, Barry looks and sees a small room with Pietro, laying on a hospital bed, hooked up to several machines, and with an oxygen mask over his face and a small window encased in blackness, hearing the heavy rain outside.
Barry's guilt comes back running like a shock. But his eyes are quickly captured by the girl who sat on the opposite side of Pietro's bed. Her dark hair and green eyes were stunning. She did, however, have circles under her eyes, indicating that she had been crying. "How is he?" Steve asks as they both enter the room.
Before she speaks, the girl looks up, her gaze lingering on Barry. "Still the same Captain," she says.
Steve's brows furrowed slightly, but he hadn't expected a different response. He nods his head glumly. Then, turning to Barry, he says, " Wanda, I'd like you to meet someone. This is Barry Allen, he's called the Flash. He's the one who saved Pietro and Clint a week ago in Sokovia."
The girl, who Barry now knows as Wanda stares at him for a moment. Barry finally speaks, "Hi, Wanda. I'm Barry, I'm sorry to hear about your brother...I wished I could have done more," he reluctantly says, thinking about Pietro getting shot and smiling at Barry for saving Clint.
"Yeah, I wish you did," Wanda replies immediately and harshly, causing Barry's face to fall.
"Wanda," Steve says and Wanda looks at him and nods before turning back to Barry.
"I'm sorry. I was grieving in some sort of way, you don't deserved to be yelled at," Wanda apologetically says.
Barry smiles a bit sheepishly. "No, I deserved it. I'm the one who put him there. Because of my powers, I wasn't fast enough to save him. I really wish I could have done more," Barry responds.
Wanda sympathetically smiles and gets up from her brother's bedside and walks towards Barry. "My brother may not have made it out unscratched but he is still here, fighting for his life hoping one day he'll wake up. If it weren't for you my brother probably would have never returned. So thank you. I'm Wanda Maximoff" Wanda says as she grabs Barry's hand and covers them with her own.
The warmth of her hands seemed to calm him down as he lets out a soft sigh and a grin.
"You're welcome. Nice to meet you," Barry replies softly.
Barry and Wanda just stare into each other's eyes for a few moments before Steve buts in and says, "Wanda keep us updated on Pietro, I'm taking Barry around the compound, letting him get the feel of the place," Wanda nods and lets go of Barry's hand with a saddened face that luckily no one saw.
He then leads Barry out of the room but not before Wanda says, "Hopefully I'll see you around?" Barry turns around and smiles.
"Hopefully," Barry replies, and Wanda nods her head before him and Steve exit the room and crept down the hallway. After a few more rooms to see, Steve and Barry come to a stop at a window on a walkway, where they see a large green field outside getting drenched with rain and the black outline of large trees overhead.
"Don't lie to me, Barry. But are you okay?," Steve asks Barry for the third time, who was just staring off at the field with a face. Steve has noticed the times when Barry wasn't himself and is now starting to figure him out a little.
"It's my home," Barry simply says and Steve narrows his eyes, confused on what he means by that. "Even though I accidentally came here, I feel like I abandoned it. My friends, my family, my city...it's like the Flash just packed up his bags and moved across town. I just don't know how I'm gonna be able to handle myself without my team," Barry conceded before looking down and closing his eyes. Steve looks down at him and puts a hand on his shoulder for the fourth time now.
After a few moments of silence, Steve pipes up and says, "Barry I understand. All of this seems to...impossible-is the best I can word it, but you don't have to go through it alone," Steve pauses then says, "You could...join us," Barry looks up at Steve, stunned about Steve's offer. "Be an Avenger, obviously we would have to get you the ropes but you can cut it whenever you need to. What do you say?" He smiles as he asks and Barry just stares at him for a few moments.
After a few moments, Barry holds out his hand and chortled. "Partners?" Steve grins before nodding and shakes Barry's hand. "Partners. Welcome to the Avengers...Flash,"
Well, this is where I'm going to end this chapter. I try to do a little more but I tried to make it a little more- in a word...interesting well more like rushed, it's different never mind.
I tried not to make Barry sound like a dick but let's be honest; If you were in his shoes and you just got transported to another earth with no way back, or your family, you would be acting like Barry did.
