Chapter 6- Taking Risks

Avengers compound

Afternoon

Barry smiles to himself as he walks through the hallways of the compound. Ever since Barry told the team about his life story, they all have been very supportive and have been treating him with great respect. His new life is not that bad.

Barry enters the kitchen but loses his train of through caused by a conversation going on between Rhodey and Sam.

"So if you were a Disney princess, who would you be?" Rhodey asks as pulls a chip out from a chip bag.

Sam takes a sip of his water before setting it down. "Cinderella," he simply says and Rhodey raises an eyebrow.

"Bro what? Why?" He asks.

"Cause she broke homie! Like I will be able to get some money from my fairy godmother, then I won't be broke anymore!" Sam vaguely explains with a huge grin and Rhodey couldn't help but to chuckle as he shakes his head.

"This guy," Rhodey exaggeratingly says.

Barry couldn't help but to butt in and weirdly ask, "What did I just walk into?"

"Just Sam being a dumbass like usual," Rhodey responds with a laugh. With that, Sam grabs Rhodey and smacks him in the back of the head. Rhodey stops laughing and scowls at him playfully. Later, the two begin to square up.

Until, Wanda enters the room and with a flick of her finger, red energy separates the two and they look each other, confused. But they're confusion fades when Wanda passes them.

"Can't you two go one day without trying to beat the other one up?" Wanda asks wearily as she walks behind the counter where Barry was, who nods in agreement.

"Can't you and Barry go one day where you guys don't act like a married couple?" Sam teased and Wanda gives him a death stare.

Sam rolls his eyes and walks off with Rhodey. As soon as they leave, Barry opens the fridge to get a drink. When he sets it down, Wanda had her hands on the counter, just staring off into space. Barry leans forward and notices that Wanda's eyes were strained, indicating she hasn't slept in a while.

"Hey. Are you okay? You seem restless, " Barry says, concerned.

Wanda comes out of it and glances over at Barry. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just haven't really got any sleep today because I keep-" she trails off, water starting to form in her eyes, thinking about Pietro.

Barry slightly sighs. "Wanda. He's gonna be okay. I know he is, you just have to be patient," Barry reassured to try and calm her down, which didn't really help.

"You don't know that," she fire back immediately softly but firmly, causing Barry to look down at his shoes. "I'm sorry," she apologetically says.

Barry doesn't say anything for a second as he closes his eyes. "No, you're right I don't know that," Barry opens them again and looks back up to Wanda. "But I have faith that one day Pietro is gonna wake up. And when he does, you will be there. Ready to welcome him with open arms," Barry says confidently.

Wanda nods her head, wiping a few tears that were about to stream down her face.

Silence took over for a few seconds between the two, until Barry breaks it as he says, "Let me take over. I'll watch Peitro while you get something to eat and some rest," Barry offered.

Wanda begins to talk. "Barry-" but she was interrupted as Barry puts a firm hand on her shoulder.

"It's okay, I kinda need something to do anyway. I've been bored out of my mind being here," Barry admits and Wanda nods her head.

"Okay. Thank you, Barry." Wanda gratefully says and Barry smiles at her, takes his hand off her shoulder before heading back to the hallways in the direction of Pietro's room.

Once Barry arrives to his destination, he sees Pietro's unconscious body lying on the bed, hooked up to monitors and the oxygen mask over his mouth. He makes his way over to him and sits besides his bed and just sits there, feeling guilty as the memories of Sokovia come rushing back to him.

But he was brought out of it when he hears footsteps approaching the door, later he sees Steve walking in.

"How is he?" Steve asks as he walks in, getting close to Pietro's bed and Barry just sighs.

"Still comatose," Barry scoffs, beginning to get aggravated. "Nothing-not even a slight vital sign. I don't understand, speedsters have speed healing. So why isn't he recovering quickly?" Barry ponders himself with questions as he looks down at Pietro, so puzzled.

Steve glances at Barry then also looks down at Pietro.

"I don't know, but he'll make it. I have faith," Steve says which makes Barry chortle.

Steve glances over at Barry and raises an eyebrow. "What?" He asks with a grin with Barry looking up at Steve.

"It's just...I said the exact same thing to Wanda when she was worrying to much about her brother," Barry says with smile, thinking about her. and Steve nods his head then glances back at Pietro.

Suddenly, an idea comes to mind. In his thoughts, he battles with it. "Steve, um I need to ask you something and I hope you won't laugh-I don't even know why I said that. Of course you won't laugh-Look, there's this girl that I want to get to know better, and I was wondering; should I ask her on a date?" he asks, rambling so much that he doesn't even know If Steve caught on.

Apparently he did since Steve is taken aback by the suddenness of the question and stares at Barry. Barry understands what he's just said and notices that he's blushing.

"Okay and who is the girl?" Steve asks.

"Well um-" Barry trails off, his words paling from him as he tries to find the right thing to say to not give off much information.

Then, Steve grins. "It's Maximoff isn't it? I've seen the ways you look at her when she's not paying attention," Steve says in a teasing tone.

Barry scoffs playfully but then his expression changes as he sees Steve makes a face, suggesting Barry that he already knows. "Is it that obvious?" He asks.

"Apparently not to her," Steve simply says.

"How long have you know for?" Barry asks as he rubs his neck.

"A week after your arrival. I saw how you were with her in the first week, trying to befriend her. Then, the next when you two started to hang out, the more you guys started to become close, the more I knew you liked her," Steve supportingly says and Barry nods with smile.

"I don't know If I should tell her," Barry pauses and looks at Pietro. "I just recently got here. And Iris...she's the first person I loved before I even knew what love meant. I can't go straight ahead and date someone when I might be able to go back to Earth-1," Barry says and Steve walks closer to him.

"Barry, life is all about taking risks. You never know unless you try, go ask her," Steve advised with a grin and Barry smiles before getting up and super speeds out of the room back into the direction of the lounge, sending a few papers flying in the air before they float down.

Steve watches as he races out and couldn't help to smile after him.

Barry super speeds to the kitchen, where he sees Wanda pouring herself some water. In a woosh, Barry was standing in front of her on the other side of the counter, which startled Wanda and causes her to drop her glass of water but Barry uses his speed to catch it with the water still in it's position.

He makes a face as he put its back on the counter. But Wanda got a little aggravated. "Barry! I told you I hate when you do that, it always scare me,"

"I know. I'm sorry it's just I wanted to see what you were doing," Barry apologetically says and Wanda nods her head with a little smile before taking a sip of her drink. Silence then filled the room and Barry fiddles with his hands while thinking;

Come on Barry. Just say it! Say it loud and clear! You can do this. You can do this. Life is all about risks, the worse thing she can say is no. Oh god!

"Um Wanda?" Barry begins, his voice starting to shake a little bit due to his nervousness. She looks up at him and raises her eyebrows, indicating she's listening. "I was wondering, do you have plans today?" He asks and Wanda simply nods her head.

"Okay I was wondering if maybe...you want to go to dinner...with me?" And with that, Wanda's eyes widen big and almost chokes on her water.

She removes the cup from her mouth and takes a second to regain her breath. She clears her throat then looks at Barry again who was feeling so bad that he literally almost killed her.

"Like...a date?" She slowly asks with a small grin.

"It doesn't have to be one. If you don't want it to be. You can think of it as friends...just going out to eat and talk," Barry immediately replies with an innocent smile, hoping he doesn't scare her off.

Wanda stares at him for a moment and Barry takes a deep breathe. "So at 8:00?" Barry asks clearly and Wanda smiles beamingly at him.

Wanda fixes her gaze on him once more. She then begins to smile charmingly. "Yes. I would like that." She replies with a smile, which Barry returns one of his own.

From outside in the big green field, white lightning flashes on scene, where the metallic man stood there for a second, looking up at the window that shows Barry and Wanda smiling at each other before he says in the distorted voice.

"I found you, Flash. And soon...you will...suffer."

I'm gonna be honest. This one was so hard to write because I had multiple scenarios on how this could play out, but all of them just end up so confusing, so I decided to be simple and just make Barry ask Wanda out. I think I could have done better- but again not a professional so you're just gonna have to bear with me.

I hoped you like how Rhodey and Sam acted in this chapter- I wasn't lying when I said that I'm making Rhodey and Sam have funny moments.

Anyway that's it for this chapter. I honestly can't even with this one.

See you in the next.
