Chapter 12- The Secret Life of Norman Osborn
Previously on the Flash (Jeremy Renner's voice)
"We need someone on the inside. Like a mole. To tell us what's happening and what's going on from the inside." Steve responds then looks at the particular person that Natasha was looking at.
And you are?" Barry asks.
The buisness man holds out his hand as he says in greeting, "Norman Osborn."
"Sebastian Smythe. Pleasure to meet you." Barry says jovially as he shakes his hand. The man had a firm grip that intrigued Barry a bit.
This is a big company and I don't allow laziness for any reason. You have to work really hard. Intelligence is not a privilege, it's a gift. You use it to save the good of mankind," Norman pauses again then says, "Do you want to try it in here?" He asks with a grin. Barry looks stunned for a second.
"Yes sir! Absolutely!" Barry says gratefully and Norman smiles.
"Well then..." Norman gets up and walks towards Barry. Barry gets up and is greeted with a handshake from Norman Osborn. "Sebastian Smythe, Welcome to Oscorp."
Jim Neutron. But my friends call me; Jimmy." he says in greeting.
Barry smiles and shakes his hand. "Sebastian Smythe. Nice to meet you man. Where you from?" He says calmly.
"I grew up in New Orleans," he says simply and Barry nods. Jim then says, "But...after my dad left, my mom wanted to have fresh start so we moved to Manhattan. There she met another guy and he later became my stepdad. Then a few years later...my mom died." Barry felt so sorry for him on that last part. He knows all too well about death and how it changes a person.
"You've been at Oscorp for a week. What have you learned from your time there?" Steve asks. Everyone then turns their attention to the speedster from another earth.
"It's a bio serum that is using CRISPR to mutate DNA so that It can defeat any chronic and virus damage and turns out the CRISPR isn't the only thing it's using. They're using a bio agent called: Sevex. Thankfully from a fellow scientist, Sevex is a type of atom that is changing the way the molecules that make a DNA, mutating the way blood cells enter the body." Barry noted and Steve nods.
Barry nods. "But that's not all. I was able to sneak into Norman's office to try and find more. With my speed I was able to vibrate my molecules faster than the naked eye can follow, making me invisible. So, I went on Normans computer and found something that Mr. Osborn himself didn't know. Apparently, his wife has Oshtoran syndrome but...so does his son." Barry explains.
Norman Osborn had another kid who knew?" Rhodey softly says.
"Alright team this is what we're going to do: Stark. I want you and Vision to get started on how to make a cure for the Demons Blood-you guys are the smartest ones here. You guys have a brain. Use it. Sam, Rhodey and Wanda I want you to follow Norman Osborn-anything you guys can find out about his secret kid I want to know about it. Barry, I need you at Oscorp. Even though you got us enough, we still need more information about Demon Blood and Osborn. Natasha, Clint and I are gonna stay here for back up and we'll be on standby alert, ready to go at a moment's notice at the first sign off."
Steve looks around at the team and says, "Alright. Everyone understand their jobs?" Everyone nods. He nods in return, then simply says, "Let's get to work."
Back screen!
Avengers compound
The next day
Steve is humming 'It's been a long long time' as he passes down the hallways of the compound, getting to where he needs to go, before coming to a stop at Tony's lab.
Steve lingers in the doorway where he can see multiple of cybernetic robots moving on their own-but they weren't like Stark's Ironman suits, they were more like Tony's robotic assistant up in Malibu; Dummy. Coming to a stop, Steve just takes a second, scouring at everything that Stark and the humanoid robot; Vision are doing before entering the room, where he's greeted by a tired Tony Stark.
"Hey Cap," Tony wearily grumbled when he spots Steve entering the room with an awe expression written all over his face.
"Vision. Stark. How's it going in here?" Steve asks with folded arms.
"It's going, Captain Rogers. We haven't exactly figured out how to reverse the effects of the bio agent they're using, but we're making some sort of progress," Vision inquires before going back to work on the computer.
Steve nods at the humanoid before glancing at Tony, who had just rubbed his eyes while typing on his holographic computer. Feeling concerned, Steve turns his full attention to Stark and asks, sounding worried, "Hey, you alright Tony?"
Tony glares at Steve. "Ecstatic," he says simply. Steve lightly nods his head, but deep down...he knows something's wrong.
"Could you tell me what you found out?" Steve patiently says and Tony looks back at his work on the computer.
"Yeah, here's the thing Cap: Um...we rather keep this to ourselves-you know for jurisdiction." Tony firmly pleaded earning a confused combined with a long sigh from Steve.
"Is it that bad?" He asks.
"Like I said: Rather keep this to ourselves." Tony arrogantly states.
Having enough of Stark's stubbornness and rather not try to press the situation since Tony is feeling rather tired and as always...a dick, Steve comes off with,"Alright well let's hope that Wanda, Sam, and Rhodey are faring better than us." And with that, Steve exits the room.
As soon as Steve walks out, Vision leans in towards Stark, who's looking through a microscope and asks, "Are you sure you want to keep this from him? It would be better to let him know what danger lies ahead-to protect themselves,"
Tony sighs and looks at the concerned human robot. "We can't. Not until we know for sure," Tony pauses, then resumes on looking through the microscope as he orders,"Keep working on the AZ compact compressor," Tony sighs. "We have to be prepared for when the time comes." Vision nods without arguing and goes back to work on the computer, staying silent the whole time they go through stages of their work.
Oscorp
The day was fresh and clear as ever. The usual New York morning: Pedestrians walking along, birds chirping, horns honking from taxis or cars and obnoxious people saying, 'Hey I'm walking here.' Outside of the Oscorp building entrance, A black Sedan car pulls up and stops on the sidewalk. Inside, Barry was in it accompanied by Wanda who was in the back seat with him, Sam who was in the passenger seat and Rhodey who was the driver.
"You know you guys didn't have to drive me here, right? I'm fine on my own," Barry says earning a playful groan from Rhodey.
"Kid, how many times do we have to tell you: We are here for our stake out with Norman. You on the other hand; are gonna go in the building and act like your normal geekiness, humble, and gleeful Barry Allen that everyone knows and loves," Sam says.
"Plus, I've never seen you in a lab coat and this was the only time I'm ever gonna see that. You look like a nerd, kid," Rhodey comments before cracking a chuckle.
Barry grins sort of uncomfortably. "I'm...26," he clearly states.
"Your point? I'm 35, Sam's 40. Your the kid here, deal with it," Rhodey jokes.
"If it makes you feel any better, I'm 25 so technically also the kid here," Wanda gently says, her accent showing off and Barry nods his head.
"Actually," Barry starts to smile. "That does kinda make me feel better. It means I'm not the only one," Barry sweetly says earning a giggle from Wanda.
"All right you love birds, it's time for y'all to separate," Both Sam and Rhodey mock in union. Then, looking at each other after saying that, in confusion, as they had just said the same thing exactly at the same time.
"How'd you do that?" Sam immediately asks.
Saying it slowly, Rhodey fires back, "How did you do that?"
Barry rolls his eyes of annoyance before glancing back at Wanda, sending a small smile at her. She returns one back. Then, Barry puts his hands on the car door handle and twists it, opening the black matte door and stepping out, planting his foot on the floor plan of the huge hexagonal tower. In the car, Sam, Rhodey and Wanda all watch in caution as Barry proceeds to head up the steps that lead up onto a walkway, approaching the huge glass doors, opening them and entering the scientific millionaire company; Oscorp.
After Barry is gone, Sam grunts as he shifts a little in his seat, earning a confused face from Wanda and a smirk from Rhodey.
"Training was a a pain huh? Was it Steve or Nat?" Wanda quips, grinning more at his predicament.
"Neither. It was Allen," Sam says, granted confused faces from the two Avengers in the car.
"Wait, wait, wait," Rhodey begins to laugh. "You're saying; your old ass got knocked out...by the kid?" Sam stares at Rhodey, unamused.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. But let's talk about you," he says, changing the conversation into something that is gonna bother the Maximoff Avenger for sure.
"Wha-me?" Wanda asks, not sure on what's about to happen.
Sam gently lowers his right hand to the seat comfort control to move his seat back, making the sound-when it moves-so dramatic until it comes to a stop, where Sam is now looking at Wanda's confused face. "What's going on with you and Barry?"
Wanda shrugs and simply says "The same as always; good friends, why?" Rhodey makes a face before peering behind his seat.
"Wanda, 'friends' don't give each other commiserative smiles and go on dates," Rhodey points out.
6 hours later
It's now been 6 hours since they last seen Barry and the three Avengers have been waiting in the car, just talking, playing car games, or even talking about their weapons or powers, trying to bring a somewhat joy into this boring stake out.
Sam sighs as he was leaning on the dashboard with one hand on his cheek. "We have been waiting here for the last six hours!" Sam frustratingly says.
"I know, know. But we have orders that have been given to us and we're the Avengers. We have to complete our mission," Rhodey reassures him. Sam just groans in complaint.
And on cue. "Wait guys, look," Wanda calls from the back seat, looking out through the black tinted window where she sees the man they have been waiting for, leaving the building and walking towards a black limousine parked on the side of the building.
Sam and Rhodey go to look at what Wanda was looking at and just in time, watch as Norman Osborn looks around his surroundings while walking before opening the car door and getting in.
"Wait, Barry said that Norman never leaves Oscorp till 8:00. It's only 2:06," Sam states after pulling out his phone to check the time.
"What the hell is he leaving work for at 2:00?" Rhodey mutters as he stares intensely at Norman and Wanda shrugs behind him, apparently able to hear him.
"Don't know, but we have to follow him. Call Steve, let him know we're on Osborn's trail," Wanda says while the limousine takes off towards the left direction and into the city. Rhodey nods before sitting up straight in his chair, putting on his seat belt, putting the key in the ignition, starting the car. Then, he presses his foot on the gas and takes off to follow the black limousine.
While on the undercover chase, Rhodey has his phone to his ear where he's talking with Steve.
"Cap we found him. He just passed Willow ave and is headed through St. Statenmurd tunnel,"
"Rhodey! that's the exact tunnel where Nat and Clint lost that white van, stay on him and don't loose vigilance. We can't afford loosing our only chance," Steve urgently says to him. Rhodey nods then hangs up.
For minutes that felt like hours, Rhodey's been following the black limousine throughout all of New York-well that's what it felt like- in reality, they have gone past through three popular streets in the city making it feel like that. However, when they reached the tunnel, the Avengers managed to still be on the limos trails, staying vigilant but secure, hoping the car doesn't spot them and lead 'em to a another location then what they expect.
Luckily, the limo didn't see the black sedan following them, which was good for them but bad for whoever is about to be exposed at the Woodward Airline. The black sedan comes to a stop on a small hill, with some advanced binoculars in the back that can see from a radius distance.
Rhodey turns off the ignition and the car-including lights all dim. Nothing could be seen behind the huge bush that was covering the car.
"Wanda, hand me one of Stark's long distance binoculars," Sam orders and Wanda nods before getting a pair and handing them to Sam.
Sam grabs them from her hand and raises it to his eye, looking through them. "What do you see?" Rhodey calls out.
"I see-" he trails off, looking straight at the airline field, where he sees Norman's limo coming to a stop in front of a bunch big muscle guys in suits who are wearing ski-masks "Some dudes standing in front of Norman's car. I think they're here for him," Sam says.
"Well what are they doing?" Wanda asks, her accent thickening due to her nerves.
However, there was one particular guy that stands out from the whole group who wasn't wearing a mask. "Wait..." Sam again trails off.
He looked so...familiar, the face, the hair and the grinny expression. But Sam can't quite put his finger on it. He takes a second, and after finally coming to a realization, Sam immediately removes the binoculars from his face and pulls out his phone, dialing their leader, Rhodey and Wanda asking repeatedly what happened.
"Yeah, Steve. It's a blackmail deal," he pauses then says, "And I know who's behind it."
