Annabeth POV

I was woken up by the very shiny rays of sun that came through the window. It was 5:49 am. I could have slept at least one more hour. Darn you, Apollo! Anyway, as I couldn't go back to sleep, I got out of bed and took a shower. All this time, I couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen today.

I passed through the living room and went to the kitchen to get something to eat. Unsurprisingly, Steve was already there. He had this military habit of waking up at 5:30 in the morning. I didn't understand how he could be so full of energy so early but if he likes to do this, who am I to question him? Demigods wake up pretty early too, especially if we're on a quest.

"Couldn't sleep?" Steve asked.

"Something like that" I answered. He nodded.

We started to talk and soon it was 8 am. The rest of the team started showing up but not Percy. He usually wakes up a bit later. I thought, trying to assure myself.

At 10 am I started getting worried. I tuned out the conversation I was having with Natasha and thought about why Percy wasn't here. I hoped with all my being that nothing happened to him. After all we've been through, I can't imagine my life without him. I stood up and ran outside of the room. I could hear Natasha yelling, asking me where I'm going but I ignored her.

I slammed open the door to his room. He wasn't there. I searched the bathroom and my room but he wasn't there either. I started to fanatically search the floor while praying to all the gods I knew that he was here somewhere. When I ran back to the living room to search there again, Steve caught my wrist and made me stop. He looked right into my panicked and desperate eyes and asked "What's wrong?"

"He… he's not here. He's not anywhere!" I said. No, I won't cry. There's still hope. Maybe he went for a walk or to visit Sally or…

"Who's not anywhere?" asked Steve.

"Percy!"

Tony stood up. "Alright, don't panic. I'll ask JARVIS to do a scan of the tower and check the cameras from around the city." he said. I nodded, silently thanking him.

"I have a few other calls to make." I said and went to IM Camp and Sally.

I turned on the shower in my bathroom and opened a window to create a rainbow. Then I threw a drachma in and said "Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, accept my offering. Show me Chiron at Camp Half-Blood."

An image of Chiron at the archery range appeared.

"Chiron!" I yelled to get his attention. He turned and smiled when he saw me but his smile quickly disappeared.

"Hello, Annabeth. Is something wrong, child?" he asked.

"Yes! I can't find Percy anywhere! Is he, by any chance, there?" I said

"I'm sorry, Annabeth. I haven't seen him since the last time you came. Have you contacted his mother?" Chiron said and I could hear the sadness in his voice.

"Not yet. I'm going to IM her now. Thanks anyway, Chiron!" I said and waved goodbye and then waved my hand through the mist, cutting off the connection. I then threw another drachma in the rainbow and asked for Sally Jackson.

"Hi, Annabeth!" Sally greeted, smiling.

"Hey, Sally! Sorry for disrupting." I said.

"It's alright, honey. You didn't disrupt anything. I was just writing a few new ideas for my book." She said. Sally has wanted to become an author ever since she was little. Unfortunately, she couldn't achieve her dream until now.

"Um, I wanted to ask you. Is Percy there?" I said.

"I haven't seen him. Isn't he with you?" Sally asked, worried.

"I couldn't find him this morning. He isn't at Camp either. Tony is scanning the Tower and looking through the city for him. We'll find him." I said as I saw worry and sadness appear on her face.

"I know you will. Please call me when you have any news. Good or bad." she said and I nodded. "Of course, Sally."

I went to cut off the connection but Sally stopped me. "And Annabeth" she said and looked at me with determination and warmth and reassurance "Don't worry too much. Percy's strong. He'll survive everything that is thrown his way and he'll come back. And if he doesn't, you have my permission to go to the Underworld and lecture him. Maybe even punch him, but not too hard." She said and at the end we both chuckled.

I threw another drachma into the rainbow and, for the sake of trying, I asked for Percy Jackson. "Sorry, couldn't make the connection." said Iris. I sighted.

Back in the living room, I let myself fall on the couch. On the TV was one of the Star Wars movies playing. Natasha was playing chess with Clint while Bruce was reading some science book. Thor was back in Asgard and Tony wasn't in the room. Ah, speak of the devil. Tony entered and shot me an apologetic look. I instantly knew he had bad news.

"I'm sorry, Annabeth. We didn't find him." he said. Bruce asked Tony something and he answered but I didn't hear any of that. He was gone. My Seaweed Brain was gone. I remembered the last time I felt like this. He had just blown Mt. Helen and then disappeared for two weeks. We thought he was dead. After that, he crashed his own funeral. I tried to assure myself with Sally's words. He will come back. What if he didn't? I couldn't help it. Tears started rolling down my face and I sobbed. He left me, just like everyone I've ever loved. My father didn't care about me, Thalia was turned into a pine tree and then she joined the Hunters, leaving me alone, and Luke… Luke betrayed me. Percy was the one who I trusted the most and now he left me too. Why were the Fates so cruel? Or, perhaps, it was Aphrodite playing with us again for her entertainment. She once told me "I'm going to make your love life very interesting." She sure as Hades kept her word.

"Annabeth? Annabeth, it's ok. It's alright." I could hear someone saying but it wasn't alright. Percy disappeared. I have never felt so alone in my life, not even when I ran away from home when I was 7. I remembered last night, when he told me he loved me and he kissed me goodnight. I remembered all those years ago when we I kissed him and then the campers threw us in the lake where we kissed again. I remembered when I took that poisoned knife for him in the Battle of Manhattan and how he told me his Achille's spot. I remembered when we first met and I told him that he drooled when he slept.

All those memories came rushing back in my head and I sobbed harder. Someone hugged me and I was snapped back to reality. I was in the Avengers' Tower, in Natasha's arms. I looked up at her with tear-filled eyes. "He's gone" I whispered, my voice cracking. She shook her head. "He disappeared. He's not gone." I heard shuffling behind me and then I was caught in to a group hug.

"It will be alright." said Bruce.

"We'll find him." said Tony.

"We're here for you." said Steve and they kept hugging me until I stopped crying.
