Author's Note: It felt natural to check in on Germany and Italy, you know? If you have been keeping up, Italy sold his soul to save Germany. We haven't seen how Germany has been effect by all of this. I also brought back Dr. Faust. I think I might do more with soulless!Italy and Dr. Faust. There needs to be more attention this season. What I am going to do with them, you are going to have to stick around and see. I already know what I am doing next week. Enjoy this week's match.
Match Five: Verrat:
-Ludwig-
That is not him. I don't know who he is. But that is not him.
Feliciano hasn't come by to see me in months. He hasn't called or written to me. No one wants to tell me what's going on with him. Even Lovino and Gilbert try to change the subject.
"Why won't anyone tell me what's going on?" I asked. Gilbert had a sheepish look on his face.
"Ludwig," he said.
"Please," I pleaded. I had to know the truth. I was determined not to back down this time. Gilbert apparently got the message. He sat down at the table.
"Ludwig," he said again.
"Gilbert…" I said.
"No, listen," my brother said. I closed my mouth and sat down. Gilbert rubbed his forehead.
"This is not going to be easy to say," he said. "Do you have anywhere to go today?"
"No," I said. My brother sighed.
"Feliciano isn't… well, he isn't exactly well," Gilbert said.
"What does that mean?" I asked. It took my all not to leap out of my chair. My brother turned his head away. He mumbled something under his breath.
"What did you say?" I asked. Gilbert turned and looked me in the eye.
"We believe that Feliciano sold his soul to the devil," he admitted. I stared at him at first. Did I just hear that right? I narrowed my eyes.
"What?" I asked.
"He did it to save you," Gilbert said. I didn't know what to say. Was I hearing any of this right?
"When was this?" I asked. My brother frowned.
"Oh that's right, you don't remember the time you were in the hospital, did you?" he asked. I shook my head.
"Oh," Gilbert said. His eyes shifted away from my face.
"What happened?" I asked. My brother looked down at the table.
"You really don't remember… everything?" he asked. I sat there looking so confused. I could see the worry filling Gilbert's eyes.
"What happened all of those months ago?" I asked. My brother didn't want to answer me.
"Answer me!" I shouted. "What happened to me months ago? What is wrong with Feliciano? Why won't anybody tell me anything?" Gilbert was trembling at this point.
I have lost those months. No one wants to tell me what happened. Feliciano didn't want to talk to me. I ran into him on the street on the last day of summer. Just by looking at him, something seemed off about him. I tried to call out to him. He didn't even look up at me. At first, I thought that Feliciano didn't see me. So, I followed him.
I don't know how long we walked. The whole time, he kept his back to me. I tried to reach out to him. Feliciano always seemed so far away.
"Hey!" I shouted. He didn't turn around.
"Hey!" shouted louder this time. Feliciano finally stopped in front of an alley. He didn't speak. I stood for a moment.
"Feliciano?" I asked. He didn't turn around.
"What?" he asked. I stood frozen. I had his attention now, but now I didn't know what to say. Feliciano just stared at me.
"Hey," I said at last.
"Yes?" Feliciano asked. I stood up straight.
"I haven't seen you lately," I said. "How have you been?" He huge into a huge smile.
"Fine," he said. "And you?"
"Fine…" I said. Something didn't feel right. His smile looked so fake, so forced. There was no emotion in his tone either. I took a step back.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I asked.
"Of course," Feliciano said. "Why wouldn't I be?" I shook my head.
"No reason," I said. "Listen, are you free today?"
"No," he said.
"Oh," I said. Feliciano turned and walked off. I held out my hand, but I didn't say anything. That man was not him. That man was pretending to be him.
My stomach dropped.
-Three Months Earlier-
Feliciano and Dr. Faust wound up at an abandoned church. The outside looked like it was crumbling. The walls looked so dark with time. The silence surrounding this church felt unholy. Feliciano trembled in the passenger seat. Dr. Faust got out of the car.
"Come along, Feliciano," he said. The Italian man didn't move at first. He stared at his new companion with big eyes. It had been three hours since he agreed to hear this man out. He could've asked to stop the car. He could've asked to turn around. He could've backed out of this.
"Come on now!" Dr. Faust said. "I don't have all day." The Italian man's stomach dropped as he unfastened his belt. He reluctantly climbed out of the car.
"Very good," the fake doctor said. Both men walked up the broken stone path. Feliciano walked like he was going to an execution. His eyes shifted back and forth at the dead gardens on either side. Neither man said a word. Feliciano shoved his hands in his pockets. They made it up to the door. Dr. Faust pushed it open.
"After you," he said. The Italian man walked in with his head down. His captor followed behind. Dr. Faust closed the door behind them. The only source of light came from cracks in the stained-glass windows high above. Dr. Faust walked ahead and held out his arms.
"Welcome to my kingdom!" he said. This would've been a perfect time to have organ music playing in the background. Feliciano took a step backward. The fake doctor smirked.
"Shall we begin?" he asked. The Italian man gulped. He couldn't turn back now. Feliciano trembled.
"What do I need to do?" he asked. Dr. Faust sat down at in a black pew. Feliciano slowly sat down next to the pew.
"You just have to fill out paperwork," he said. The Italian man looked confused.
"That's it?" he asked.
"Uh-huh," Dr. Faust said. He waved his hand in the air. Black flames appeared in the air. A contract floated in the air. The doctor pulled out a feather pen.
"Just sign here and here," he said. Dr. Faust pointed to the spots on the paper. Feliciano looked up at him with wide eyes.
"And Ludwig will be okay after this?" he asked.
"That's right," Dr. Faust said. Feliciano slowly reached for the pen. But then he froze. The doctor raised his eyebrow.
"Something wrong?" he asked. The Italian man trembled.
"Don't you want to save your precious friend?" Dr. Faust asked. "The doctors can't do anything for him. Only you can help him."
"Me?" Feliciano asked.
"Yes," the doctor said. "You don't want him to die, do you?"
"Die?" the Italian man asked.
"Yes," Dr. Faust said. Feliciano grabbed the feather pen. He started signing on the page. The Italian man did it really fast too. The doctor smirked the whole time. Feliciano handed him the pen.
"Good boy," Dr. Faust said.
"Now what?" Feliciano asked. The doctor gave him a creepy smile.
"You are free to go," he said. The Italian man gave him a confused look.
"I can?" he asked.
"Yes," Dr. Faust said, nodding. "You can go now. Do you need me to show you the way out?"
"No…" Feliciano said in a low voice. He slowly got up as if in a daze. Dr. Faust watched him walk away. He sat back, smirking.
The first seal broke in small cracks.
He's doing this for his beloved friend. That's what he told himself. Did he believe it anymore? He didn't know. He didn't really care either. But Ludwig wouldn't leave him alone.
It wasn't just him either.
Everyone was just so worried about Feliciano. He didn't understand why. Sabine could see it for herself too.
"They are really worried about you," she said aloud one evening.
"I don't know why," Feliciano said. He didn't even look up as he said that. Sabine frowned.
"They are your friends," she said. Feliciano stopped writing with his right hand.
"Friends?" he asked.
"That's right," Sabine said.
"Heh," was all Feliciano said. He went back to writing at his desk. The nightcomer raised her eyebrow.
"What are you writing?" she asked. Feliciano glanced up at her for a moment.
"Nothing," he said. The nightcomer tried to read over his shoulder. Feliciano didn't pay any attention to her. Sabine had a curious look on her face.
Hm? What was he writing? Her eyes caught the name "Ludwig" on the page. Sabine read the words around it. She couldn't read the whole time, but it didn't take her long to put it together. Her lips curved into a smile.
"Oh, I see," she said to herself. Sabine slowly backed away. She stood in the doorway and looked over her shoulder.
"I'll leave you to it then," Sabine whispered. The nightcomer disappeared into thin air.
Feliciano turned the page and started writing again.
-Ludwig-
That man is not him. It's an actor pretending to be him. That smile is always fake. He always avoids us. He won't even talk to me. He never tries to call me. When I call him, he always hangs up on me. He's cut himself off from us. Not even Lovino can reach him.
"How is he doing?" I asked.
"I don't know," was all he said. When he shut the door in my face, that was it. He wasn't being hostile towards me either. His eyes looked so sad. I don't think Lovino knows what to do. I don't think any of us knows what to do.
That man is not Feliciano. We have to get him back.
