Ch-2
Rose's last coherent thought before everything went black was, I'll kill you, Lily Luna Potter!
Rose opened her eyes to find a large pair of golf-ball shaped, murky-brown eyes staring distastefully at her. She was about to do the most logical thing she could think of (scream) when she heard Lily's groggy voice.
"Kreacher? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at Hogwarts?"
Rose blinked and looked at the creature in front of her. Sure enough, it was Kreacher. But he didn't look like Kreacher. He wasn't wearing his Hogwarts house-elf uniform. In fact, he didn't seem to be wearing anything at all, unless you counted what seemed like an old dishrag as clothes.
Kreacher's back was less stooped, and he looked very grumpy.
Unless she was mistaken or dreaming (which she very much hoped she was), the time-turner had worked, and they were in the past.
"Lily, look at what you've done!" Rose screamed. "You- you-"
However, she was interrupted before she could use the most imaginative swear words she could think up for her cousin.
"These unbearably loud people, mudbloods and half-bloods and filth in the house of Kreachers' masters… oh, what would poor Kreacher's mistress say!"
Both Rose and Lily looked incredulously at Kreacher. 'Mudblood'? Kreacher would never say that. Her parents had said that Kreacher had been much different in the past, but this?
Rose wondered if they had reached the First Wizarding War- the one in which her parents weren't there… maybe she was in Grimmauld Place when the Blacks lived there? That was terrible! They could end up dead!
Rose's question was answered when the door opened a split second later and a gruff voice said- "Surrender your wands right now! We are many against you and we don't have any problems with hexing you to oblivion!"
Rose didn't even have her wand with her at that moment. She was about to say that when a dozen or so people entered the room, their wands at the ready. The man with the gruff voice was at the front- he had a very scarred face, a large chunk of flesh missing from his nose, and a scary electric-blue artificial eye whizzing in its socket.
"I told you to put down your wands!"
"But we don't have any!" Rose said, sounding much braver than she felt. "I can explain-"
"Alastor, they're children!" said a horrified female voice from the group. Rose's eyes snapped there, and she saw a much younger version of her grandmother.
"Can very well be Death Eaters in disguise!"
"I think we ought to call Dumbledore and let him deal with them first," said a calm voice Rose recognized at once as her grandfather's.
Rose let out a small breath. At least they weren't stuck among Death Eaters and other pure-blood supremacists… maybe it was the second war… which, of course, Rose said to herself, wasn't essentially a good thing.
"I'll Floo Dumbledore!" said a woman with a vaguely familiar heart-shaped face and bubblegum pink hair. Teddy's mum. There was a sound of something falling after she went out of the room which made half of the people who had come to the room sigh.
Everyone in the room was looking at Lily and her suspiciously.
Rose looked at her cousin and found that she was oddly quiet and seemed to be staring at everyone in awe.
"What is it, Sirius?" said a voice behind the group.
"Go away children, this can be dangerous," said a man with a deep and measured voice. Kingsley!
"We are-"
A tall man with sweeping midnight blue robes entered the room before Rose could finish her sentence.
He had a long white beard, half-moon glasses and a crooked nose, and looked very similar to the portrait in the Headmistress's office.
"Thank Merlin you're here, Albus-" said Grandma, sounding relieved.
"I would like to talk to them alone," he interrupted in a calm but authoritative voice.
Everyone, even Kreacher and the creepy man with the large blue eye, obeyed at once, and Rose and Lily were left alone with one of the wisest wizards of all time.
Dumbledore surveyed them with his blue eyes and said gravely, "Would you please care to introduce yourselves?"
He conjured two stuffy armchairs and motioned for them to sit.
"Are- are you really Albus Dumbledore?" Lily said finally. Rose had been wondering why exactly Lily hadn't spoken for such a long time, but she supposed she had been overwhelmed with everything and was taking time to realize the extent of her very foolish mistake. Reckless Gryffindor, humph.
"Yes, I believe I am," said Dumbledore, his eyes twinkling slightly. Rose wondered how he managed to do that. "Now, could you please explain?"
Rose decided to speak before Lily spoke too much and made another mistake. After all, Lily most probably didn't know Gilbert Slinkhard's Laws of In-Dimension Time-Travel.
"I'm Rose and she is my cousin Lily. I know this is difficult to believe, but we are from the- er, future."
Lily, who had opened her mouth to speak before Rose took over, shot her a nasty look.
"The future?" said Dumbledore, looking thoughtful.
"2021, to be exact. Which time is it now, by the way?"
"Well, it is the eleventh of August 1995. I am afraid I cannot trust you so easily. These are dark times, Miss-?"
"Granger-Weasley"
Dumbledore raised an eyebrow. His mouth seemed to twitch upwards ever so slightly before he continued in a serious voice. "Very well, Miss Granger-Weasley. I have already called for Severus Snape, who will shortly be arriving with some Veritaserum, which will help us verify your stories."
"Severus Snape!" said Lily. "Cool! Wish Al were here- he'd love it!"
Rose felt her temper rise once again. They were stuck in the middle of a bloody war, her parents were about her age, and all Lily cared about was Albus meeting his idols?
"Wish- wish Al were here? Have you any idea what you have gotten us into? We could die for all we know!"
"We wouldn't be here in the first place if you hadn't tried to snatch that time-turner from me in the first place-"
Before Rose could retort, there was a diversion in the form of a pale, grumpy looking man in black robes who entered the room with a vial of clear liquid.
"Ah, here you are Severus," said Dumbledore.
"Here you go, Headmaster," he said, looking distastefully at Rose and Lily while he passed Dumbledore the vial of Veritaserum.
Rose suddenly realized that her father was right, Severus Snape did resemble an overgrown bat.
Dumbledore conjured two goblets, half-filled them with Veritaserum, and gave one each to Rose and Lily.
"Please take a sip."
Rose obeyed and felt her mind go hazy. She vaguely remembered snippets of questions (-what is the last date you remember- affiliated with Lord Voldemort in any way- full names- parents' names-)
Rose was snapped back into reality a few minutes later to see a beaming Dumbledore wiping his eyes while Snape was still sneering distastefully.
"Very good, very good," he said jovially. "I am glad that there will be happier times!"
Rose wondered if he knew that the 'happier times' wouldn't have him, but then Dumbledore didn't seem the kind of person who was afraid of death.
"We do not have any means to send you back to your time at present, of course, and we cannot inform the Ministry, which is not exactly co-operating with us right now..." said Dumbledore who, for some reason, was still looking like Christmas had come early. "Which leaves us no option other than arranging your stay here at Grimmauld Place itself, with your family until we find a way to send you home."
"Does that mean we get to stay with our teenaged parents?" said Lily excitedly. "That'll be fun!"
Dumbledore chuckled. "Well Miss Potter, you will have to stay here, but I am afraid you cannot disclose your identities as of now."
"Why?" said Lily, looking crestfallen.
"Because this will cause a disruption in the timeline,' said Rose irritably. Lily would've known that if she'd read the book Rose had given her for Christmas the previous year (The Magical Space-Time Continuum: All You Need To Know). "What if two people who claimed that they have arrived from the future and came up to you and said that they're your and Mark's future children? Would you even think of going out with him after that or be mortified to death?"
Lily blushed. "What made you think I'd like to go out with Mark?"
"That's beside the point."
"Well, Misses Potter and Granger-Weasley, I think that is enough," said Dumbledore. "Your appearance makes it quite obvious that you two are Weasleys, so the only thing we will be disclosing to the rest of the people in the Order is that you are from the next generation of Weasleys, nothing else.
"Also, you will have to choose an alias for yourself, Miss Potter, your name makes your parentage very obvious."
"Ooh, an alias, like in those muggle detective stories? Can I be Mulberry? Or Agent-0945? Or-"
"No, Lily," Rose cut her off. "Can Lils do?" she asked, turning to Dumbledore. "That's what she usually goes by at home, so we won't have a slip-up."
"Yes, yes, it is perfectly alright," he said, rubbing his palms. "Very well, Severus? Can you give a brief explanation to the Order about this new- development? I have some work to finish at Hogwarts."
Snape went out of the room without a word as Dumbledore smiled at Rose and Lily again.
"Keep safe, and stay out of trouble- but then, if you are anything like your parents, I doubt you will!" he said as he left, eyes twinkling madly again.
A/N II- I did not have time to proofread this chapter, so I hope I haven't messed up! Please mention in the reviews if you find any error.
