A/N: The third chappie is here! I'm sorry for not updating for such a long time, but in my defense, I had exams. Of the offline kind.
I had originally intended for the entire story to be in Rose's perspective (third person, though), but I ended up putting something in Harry's POV as well. This story is divided into two parts with a line break thingy, with the first part being Harry's POV and the second one in Rose's. I won't write "Rose's POV" on top because I really hate that, but it'll be easy enough to figure out, especially with that line break.
Anyway, here's the chapter!
DISCLAIMER: Harry Potter belongs with Ginny Weasley, who in turn is the creation of J.K. Rowling. Don't sue me.
Harry stared apprehensively at the two girls that came out of the room and exchanged glances with Ron and Hermione.
The taller one had curly red hair, blue eyes and a few freckles splattered across her face. She was looking at everyone with a calculating expression on her face that distinctly reminded Harry of someone, but he couldn't quite place a finger on it.
The shorter one (who was redheaded as well) had brown eyes, lots of freckles and a set jaw that once again reminded Harry of someone.
She was staring intently at one of the twins (he couldn't figure which one. Was it George? No… it was Fred. Or maybe it was George. Who cared?). It suddenly struck Harry- that set jaw belonged to Fred and George.
But again, the girl didn't look like the twins. She had almond-shaped eyes and a face shape that didn't belong to Fred and George.
One thing, however, was pretty clear: both these girls (or Death Eaters in disguise, thought Harry) could easily pass off as Weasleys.
Snape and Professor Dumbledore had exited the room with them as well. Snape was very quiet, with his lips pursed and a strange look on his face. Professor Dumbledore, on the other hand, was smiling.
He cleared his throat and said, 'These two girls are indeed from the future. Twenty-six years, to be exact. For the sake of not disrupting the timeline, I am in no position to say more. However, I am certain that you do realize that they belong to the Weasley family,' he said, turning towards Mr and Mrs Weasley and smiling benignly. 'Your future grandchildren.'
Mrs Weasley gave a little gasp and beamed at the girls, moving towards them and enveloping them in a tight hug before turning to Mr Weasley and beaming; her eyes shining.
Harry once again exchanged an incredulous look with his best friends. How could Dumbledore believe them so easily?
As if hearing Harry's thoughts, Dumbledore continued, 'Professor Snape and I have used Veritaserum to verify, and we can say with full confidence that they are speaking the truth and are not a threat.'
To Harry's surprise, Moody, who had been looking incredibly sceptical- more so than Harry, Ron and Hermione- nodded reluctantly at Dumbledore's words.
Harry looked at Ron and Hermione, trying to catch their eyes- surely they didn't believe those girls too, did they?- but to Harry's surprise (and annoyance), they were looking reassured.
'They will be staying at Grimmauld Place for the time being until someone from their time comes back to take them back. Please refrain from asking them any questions about the future, however appealing it may seem. I have to go now,' he said suddenly, with a sudden shift in his tone. 'I have some business at Hogwarts. Goodbye!'
He had completely ignored Harry, who felt an inexplicable surge of anger towards his headmaster. He was going to be tried tomorrow, for Merlin's sake. Didn't he at least deserve an 'all the best' if not a proper explanation for why he had been cooped up at the Dursleys and isolated for such a long time?
'What are your names, dearies?' asked Mrs Weasley, smiling at her "granddaughters"; which snapped Harry out of his reverie.
'Lils,' said the younger one, smiling brightly.
What kind of name was that? Must be short for something like Lillian or Lynetta…
The older one, whose face was filled with tension, relaxed slightly as she saw Mrs Weasley's smile replied, 'Rose.'
'It is already too late, Rose, Lils. You are all going to bed. The same goes for you lot,' she said, turning sharply at Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and the twins.
There were some loud protests, especially from Fred and George, who said, 'We're of age! You can't put us to sleep like we're little children like ickle Ronniekins here!'
'Hey!'
'Stop it!' said Mrs Weasley, looking frazzled and glaring at Fred and George. 'You two! Just turning seventeen doesn't mean you are mature enough! Look at you, running around, Apparating every two feet without a care in the world- you are acting like a pair of little children! You will not get breakfast tomorrow if you don't listen to me and go to bed now!'
'OK, OK,' said George, looking alarmed at his mother's outburst.
'No need to get so angry,' said Fred.
Everyone was shooed away to his or her room and arrangements were made for Rose and Lils to sleep in two spare beds that were magically set up in the room Hermione and Ginny shared.
Harry, Ron and Hermione shared a look and seemed to have an unspoken agreement on the fact that they would get together and discuss the new developments as soon as possible.
Mrs Weasley suddenly stopped Harry as he was on the foot of the stairs and said in a quiet voice, 'Harry, dear, I have ironed your best clothes for tomorrow. Wake up at by six, okay dear?'
Harry nodded slightly, fearing that his voice would crack. The hearing. What if he got expelled? Would he ever be able to see Ron, Hermione and the others? Would he at least get to live with Sirius?
He glanced at Sirius, who had remained eerily silent throughout the exchange with Dumbledore. He was looking at Harry as well, and gave a slight half-smile of reassurance to Harry as he turned up the stairs to the room he and Ron shared.
Ron turned to Harry as soon as they had changed into their nightclothes.
'Can you believe this?' he said excitedly. 'A time-turner! They're from the future! Twenty-six years! We'd be forty-one, mate!'
Harry personally thought that it would be highly unlikely for him to live to see his seventeenth birthday, let alone his forty-first one, but he did not think it would be wise to voice this thought in front of anyone.
'D'you really think they're telling the truth? Isn't it strange that they just drop in here at Grimmauld Place and very conveniently turn out to be related to your family?'
'Harry,' said Ron as if he thought something was wrong with Harry. 'Dumbledore checked everything himself! He can't be wrong!'
Ron's unwavering trust at Dumbledore made Harry feel slightly guilty for doubting Rose and Lils even after Dumbledore said that he'd verified everything.
'Well… you're right, Ron.'
But Ron didn't seem to be hearing him. 'Rose and Lily could be my future nieces!'
'Or daughters,' said Harry, raising an eyebrow and grinning.
Ron's ears predictably turned bright red. 'Course not,' he mumbled.
'Really, Ron,' teased Harry. 'Rose looks like she has your nose.'
'Dad has the same long nose,' he said Ron defensively. 'So do Bill and Percy. Rose could be Percy Jr for all we know!'
He suddenly stopped talking as they heard the tell-tale creak of the floorboards as Mrs Weasley paused outside their room, listening intently for any sign that they were awake.
'Fred's right, it's as if Mum doesn't even trust us!'
Rose quietly changed into the slightly-small nightgown that belonged to her fifteen-year-old mother.
The very idea of her being the same age as her parents was simply ludicrous.
As she faced her Mum and Auntie Ginny (who were looking ready to burst with excitement) she sighed. 'We won't be able to answer your questions.'
'Who are your parents?' asked Auntie Ginny anyway, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet.
'They can't answer that!' said Mum, looking scandalized. 'This could ruin the timeline!'
'We can give you clues if you want,' said Lily, opening her big fat mouth.
'No, we can't, Lils,' said Rose sharply.
'How old are you two?' asked Auntie Ginny. 'Can you answer that?'
'Almost twelve,' piped up Lily. 'It's my birthday next week. By the way, happy birthday, Ginevra!'
'Thanks,' said Auntie Ginny, looking slightly taken aback at Lily's use of her full name. 'It'd be great if you called me Ginny, though. Ginevra's an awful name.'
'I know,' said Lily maddeningly. 'We're not allowed to call you that in our time, so I can take advantage of the fact that I'm only slightly younger than you here.'
Auntie Ginny narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything.
'And what about you, Rose?' asked Mum, turning to her.
'Fifteen- same as you, D- er, Ron and Harry.'
'Oh.'
Suddenly, the door burst open and Grandma poked her head in without warning. It was surprising how similar she was here like she was then back in the present.
'Off to sleep girls, we have to clean up the attic tomorrow!'
There was a chorus of 'Yes' as everyone turned off their lights and settled into their beds, grumbling.
A few minutes later, when everyone was settled in their beds, Auntie Ginny said in a very quiet voice, 'What about the hearing? Harry gets off, doesn't he?'
Rose felt Lily's eyes on her and knew she was silently asking if she could answer this question. Logic dictated that they shouldn't say anything, but Auntie Ginny's voice had a quiet sort of desperation.
'He gets off, don't worry.'
'Good,' Auntie Ginny said in a voice that couldn't pass off as that of someone who was just having friendly concern for their brother's best friend.
A/N: Okay, this chapter was a bit of a filler, but some things do happen.
At this point in Order of the Phoenix, Harry was angry at Dumbledore, even though he wasn't in full-on caps-lock mode.
I haven't forgotten Harry's hearing, and as a bit of a recap for the people who forgot- this story starts at the 11th of August 2021 and 1995 (which also happens to be Ginny's birthday). Harry's hearing was on the 12th of August.
About Rose and Lily's ages: The epilogue is set in 2017 (1998+19 years) and Rose is in her first year of Hogwarts. As term starts on September first, we can assume that she was born between September 2005 and August 2006. Which would mean she turns fifteen in 2020 or 2021- but definitely before September 2021.
Lily, on the other hand, has to wait three more years to go to Hogwarts according to the epilogue, so her first year was in the year 2020 (let's please assume that the pandemic didn't affect the Wizarding World.). So she'll be starting her second year now.
Also, I've made Harry Mad-Eye Moody-esque paranoid in this chapter, but do you expect the poor boy to trust Rose and Lily so easily after that Barty Crouch fiasco?
Please, please, PLEASE review!
