When Holly and Artemis eventually started telling their friends and family that they were lovers, the reactions were varied, to say the least. To control the spread of the information as much as possible, everyone was told individually, and sworn to secrecy until the information was public.

Butler was first. The career bodyguard and espionage expert had simply chuckled at the announcement. "Is this supposed to be new information to me?"

Foaly, meanwhile, had whistled, and said, "Wow. I mean, congratulations, I guess. That's quite a secret. I'm glad you came to me. I'm great with secrets, you know. I don't tell anybody anything that goes on around here."

When they called up Caballine, she smiled sweetly and said, "Oh, I already know. Foaly tells me everything that goes on around here."

Juliet Butler gave Holly a big hug and then spent an hour wrestling with her in the Fowl dojo.

Myles Fowl briefly glanced up from his work to say, "Noted."

Beckett Fowl grinned and shouted "I'm going to have a sister-in-law!"

N°1 was also overjoyed. "Oh, how wonderful! Artemis and Holly, lovers! Lovers, partners, mates, significant others…"

Commander Kelp's first reaction was unprintable. His second reaction was also unprintable. He came around eventually, though, for who could be against it?

Angeline Fowl gave her son The Talk.

Artemis Senior gave his son The Talk.

"...lovebirds, romantics, boyfriend-girlfriend…"

Lazuli Heitz said to Holly, "I'm glad for you, Commodore. But I'm afraid Beckett Fowl already told me. He was very excited."

They couldn't tell Julius, but Holly liked to imagine him giving his blessing, only after venting the steam from his ears and dowsing his beetroot face in ice water, of course.

When Holly took Mulch aside to tell him in person, he said, "Whoa. How does that even work? Physically, I mean. Are you stretchy, or is he just tiny?" And then he didn't say anything else, because he was too busy holding his bleeding nose.

"...paramours, sweethearts, valentines!"
