Author's Note: So I find the lack of stories for this pairing unsatisfying and decided to write this little story. It was originally supposed to be a one shot but it seems to have taken on a life of its own and will now be a muti-chapter fic, so if anyone out there is into this pairing and you are following along with me then enjoy.
The first thing Hagrid wanted to do when he got back to Hogwarts was go straight to Minerva. Unfortunately the stone in his pocket served as a reminder that first he had to go see Dumbledore before doing anything else. Making his way to the stone statue he gave the password and rode the steps up to the headmasters office. He knocked and heard Dumbledore call "Enter."
As Hagrid stepped into the room he immediately noticed another person was already in the office with Dumbledore. She turned and locked eyes with him. He looked at her for a moment before turning his attention back to Dumbledore.
"Good evenin' Professor Dumbledore," He said then nodded to Minerva, "Professor McGonagall."
"Ah, Hagrid, good evening." Dumbledore spoke kindly then glanced at Minerva briefly before turning his attention back to Hagrid and speaking again. "Did you have any trouble procuring the package, Hagrid?"
"None at all, Professor." Hagrid reached into his pocket and pulled out the small wrapped package and placed it on Dumbledore's desk.
All three adults stared at the small package for a moment before Dumbledore gently picked it up and tucked it into his own robes. "Thank you, Hagrid." He said patting the spot where the stone now lay tucked away in the fabric. "I shall put it in its proper place."
Hagrid nodded, and then took his leave, deciding to head back to his hut until he could speak with Minerva.
Albus looked at Minerva now. "Have all the security measures been put into place, Minerva?"
She nodded."Yes Albus, no one should be getting anywhere near the stone."
"Very well then. Thank you, Minerva, you may go. I shall see you at the sorting." He dismissed her kindly and Minerva exited his office, quickly making her way down the stairs to try and catch Hagrid.
Hagrid was making his way down the empty corridor when he heard quick footsteps coming towards him. He turned around to see Minerva trying to catch up with him.
"Rubeus!" She came to a stop in front of him. "Did everything go alright with Harry?" She asked.
"Oh just fine. Got em all his school supplies and his wand. I can tell he's a good lad but you were right about those muggles he's been living with. Terrible folks. The boy didn't know a thing about the wizarding world. Even told em his parents died in a car crash!"
Minerva's eyebrows rose. "Oh goodness. Did you tell him the truth?"
Hagrid opened his mouth to reply but then just shut it again with a sigh and nodded yes.
"And how did he take it?" She asked.
"Well he was surprised for sure but he'll be alright, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and he's a good kid. I even bought him an owl as a birthday present." Hagrid smiled happily, remembering the look on Harry's face when he saw the owl.
Minerva smiled at the sweet half giant and placed a hand on his chest, looking up at him sweetly. "I believe I owe you another 'Thank you'." She said. Hagrid grinned down at her and she stood on her tiptoes, the hand on his chest sliding up around the back of his neck as he leaned down to accept her lips.
This kiss wasn't like the first one. Hagrid's hand came up to gently cup her cheek and deepen the kiss, their lips slowly moving against each other. His other hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her up against him.
She let out a small sigh as she eventually felt him pull back, their lips parting, and he leaned his forehead against hers and breathlessly said "You are very welcome." With a grin.
Minerva giggled and as Hagrid began to straighten up, her hand slid back down to his chest and he caught her hand in his larger one and pulled it to his lips, kissing the back of her fingers gently.
"Have dinner with me." He said, hopefully and rather abruptly.
Her eyes widened, not expecting him to say that. "Tonight?" She asked, confused. "Tonight is the welcome feast, we will both be expected to be there."
Hagrid chuckled, shaking his head. "No, not tonight, how about Friday? I'm sure there will be plenty to talk about after the first week of school is over."
Minerva smiled sweetly and nodded. "Friday would be lovely." She said and Hagrid beamed back at her.
"Friday it is then! I will pick you up at 7." He said excitedly, his smile never faltering. He then kissed her hand one more time before the two parted ways. Hagrid's lumbering footsteps taking him back out onto the school grounds while Minerva headed back down the empty corridor. Perhaps from now on she shouldn't make a habit of kissing him right in the middle of the corridor where someone could turn a corner or pop out of a door at any moment. Not that he seemed to mind, of course, but this thing between them was still so new she didn't want anyone poking their nose around them just yet. For now she wanted him all to herself.
