Yuji walks into the room, kicking the door open with his feet, his hands holding four pizza boxes, and a bag of plastic plates and some sugary drinks. Megumi scowls at him from the bed and just like the second time they've met—Megumi doesn't look at all intimidating, all bandaged up. "I got the goods!" Yuji sets the pizza boxes down on top of Megumi's legs. He takes out the plates, hands Megumi and Nobara each a strawberry raspberry drink. He pulls up a chair, turns it backward, and plops down on it.
"You bought four pizzas?" Nobara takes a slice of cheese pizza from the top box, ignores the plates, and levels him with disbelief.
"Gojo-sensei ordered them." Hmm, they could have put more cheese on the pizza, in his opinion.
"That's it?" Megumi asks, chewing on a pepperoni slice.
"Well… he said no at first. Said that I was out of the nest and should learn to fend for myself."
"Sounds about right."
"Yeah, yeah. So, I called Kagome-san, and Gojo-sensei ordered the pizzas."
"What was that like? Living with them?"
Yuji stuffs the rest of the slice into his mouth, chews over how much he should reveal and if it matters at this point. "Not too bad. We had breakfast and dinner together. I got to go on some missions with Gojo-sensei, and we met some crazy fox demons."
"Fox demons? Like that Yakeru guy?" Megumi pushes the marble into his soda and takes a swig.
"Who?"
"You know Yakeru too?"
"He showed up one day when I was showing Gojo-sensei about Buyo Jr. being able to go into my shadow. Transformed into Kagome-san during a sparring match."
"Yeah, demons wear some sort of glamor magic to conceal themselves from people."
"Megumi said that the guy transformed into Kagome-san, though. Can they all do that?"
"Buyo Jr… can't? Honestly, Kagome-san would probably know. She knows more about demons than Gojo-sensei does. We went to a hotel ran by some foxes. They were all eccentric, kept fawning over Kagome-san. Got some cool souvenirs out of it." Yuji lifts the two boxes, goes for the third one that has all sweet cinnamon dusted bread.
"That Yakeru guy could get through Master Tengen's barrier. Demons have been pretending to be jujutsu students, so Master Tengen does not get set off by their visits." Megumi flicks Yuji's outstretched hand and moves his drink away from the pink-haired boy.
"Some of them work with curses for the heck of it. Curses get a power boost from being exposed to demonic energy, and then get addicted to it."
"So, are we really not going to talk about it?" Nobara whines. The boys look at each other, confusion marked clearly on their faces. "Oh, my gosh. About the ring that Kagome-san was wearing on that finger."
"Promise ring," Megumi and Yuji say at the same time.
"Huh? How do you know?" Yuji asks.
"I was there," Megumi mumbles, the tips of his ears turn bright red. Nobara grabs the pizza boxes, shoves them towards Yuji, and leans across the bed. Megumi jerks back, though there isn't anywhere for him to run with the wall behind him, and both Yuji and Nobara on either side of him. "What?"
"Did you guys pick out any other rings?"
"… Yes."
Yuji leans back, puts the boxes on the floor just in time to avoid Nobara's shout of what he presumes to be joy. Must be a girl thing, to worry more about engagement rings than threats of demons and curses working together.
"Yuji!" Nobara snaps her gaze to him, one hand tugging at Megumi's shirt.
"Y-yes?"
"Tell Kagome-san that we need to go shopping for more school clothes."
"But we–"
"I wouldn't mind seeing this fox hotel," Megumi says, looking down at his drink.
"You can't leave without your best friend!" Todo's voice booms in the small room. Yuji jumps out of the chair.
"When did you get here?"
"I've been here. I can't believe you couldn't detect your best friend's presence," Todo says, pretending to wipe a tear from his eye.
"You guys are all weird," Yuji says, scratching the back of his head.
"Yuji! Tell Kagome-san, we need clothes to visit this fox hotel… for research."
"Is shopping all you think about?"
"Uh, no. Clearly, we need to gather as much intel on these demons as we can. Why not start with a friendly source?"
Yuji looks to Megumi for support, but even his face is hopeful. "Fine." He reaches into his pocket and sends a quick text to Kagome-san. Yuji will probably never say it out loud, but his heart does a flip when he thinks about calling Kagome-san and Gojo-sensei. Almost as if they're a genuine family. "By the way, Megumi. Gojo-sensei showed us some of your baby pictures."
"What!"
A/N: I hope everyone is having a wonderful week :) And I don't think I say this enough, but you guys seriously rock.
