Author's Note: Welcome back to the newest chapter of Alana's Trial! This one took me a bit to get out due to work and all that stuff, but I hope y'all enjoy it. If it doesn't take any time out of your day please review and leave your criticisms or comments.
Alana practically squealed, earning a slight jump from Melody. The girl had a pair of lungs on her. She made a mental note of that as she watched Alana pick Fefnir up and spin around with her. Putting her back on the ground the poor Charmander waltzed around
"I actually caught one! I've wanted one for years and it's now the first pokemon I've caught!" Alana bragged, shoving the ball in Melody's face. "And it was a cute one too!"
"I have a feeling that you and I have a different idea of what we'd consider being cute," Melody said, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly. "But hey, that first catch was awesome!"
Alana admired the Pokeball in her hand, before pressing the button in the center again. Red light poured out of the small sphere. The Caterpie looked up at its new trainer pausing to see what she was going to do. Alana took her Pokedex from her back and pointed it at the small worm. The scanning light flashed on Caterpie, shocking it, and making it start squirming towards Alana.
"Caterpie, the Worm Pokemon. Caterpie uses the suction cups on its feet to climb trees and feed on its favorite leaves." the dex whirled.
Alana flicked through the extra bit of information. It appeared that Caterpie was a guy, he had the ability Shield Dust, and the moves he currently knew were string shot and tackle. While Alana was focused on that, Caterpie had managed to crawl up her body. A shiver went through her body forcing a laugh out of her. The pokemon stopped once he reached Alana's shoulder.
"Are you comfortable?" Alana asked after her fit of giggles finished. She sat down for a bit thinking of various names. "I think that I'll call you Monarch."
The rest of the day would go by pretty fast for the two travelers. They ran into several different pokemon including Pidgey, Rattata, and Weedle. Alana stopped to read up on them in her Pokedex each time much to Melody's chagrin. It looked like her new friend was having fun, but all it seemed like was walking for a bit, then reading. She wanted to see more crazy sights! Something that would be cool enough to put in her scrapbook. While the Pokedex was pretty cool, it just didn't seem to be her style. Well, Alana seemed to be having enough fun for the two of them. The trees seemed to get denser and denser as they went as well.
"Well, this is the entrance to the forest, or at least when it starts getting maze-like," Alana informed Melody. "Ready to go?"
"Not so fast!"
Alana jumped and turned around. Oh, it was just Jackson. Had he not taken the shuttle to Viridian? That was the only way that she could think that made them get ahead of him. Jackson had a confident smile on his face and pointed at Alana fiercely.
"We couldn't battle earlier because of that cheap move that you pulled. Now it's different since I caught another partner. Get ready Alana."
"Do we have to do this now? We're going to need all of the supplies that we gathered to get through the forest."
"Hey, the rules are when two trainers lock eyes they have to battle. Nervous that you won't be fighting at an advantage?" Jackson taunted.
"Don't worry about it, I'll heal up both of your guy's pokemon after you're done. Go for it." Melody encouraged with a thumbs up.
Alana went deadpan. That was the exact opposite response that she wanted right now. A 'yes Alana is right. We should conserve resources' would have been much nicer. Now if she refused it would look like she was trying to get out of it because she lost the advantage. By the looks of Fefnir, he was ready to go, too. Guess this was something she would have to get used to traveling. Sighing, Alana faced Jackson. She didn't want a repeat of her first battle against Melody. She was going to win this one.
"Fine. You said that you had another partner right? How about a two on two. Winner by knockout?"
"All fine with that. You'll be the first rung on my ladder to the top." Jackson replies with a bit of arrogance in his voice. He then pointed to Melody. "And you're next lady."
Alana walked to one side of the path, and Jackson did the same in the opposite direction. Alana returned her Pokemon and contemplated which one she should send out. She could lead with Fefnir, but what if he led with this new partner of his? It would weaken Fefnir and ruin her advantage. So the most logical choice was too…
"Go, Monarch." "I choose you, Nidoran."
Two flashes of red light pierced the area as the bug type and poison type came face to face. The Nidoran snarled at Monarch causing tears to wheel up in his eyes. He looked back at Alana who threw him a thumbs up. Jackson laughed at the display.
"A Caterpie? Really? This is going to be easy. Nidoran start this out with Scratch."
"Uh Monarch, meet it head-on with a tackle."
The exchange did not go as planned, it seemed like the difference in Monarch and Nidoran's attack power was noticeable. He was batted away pretty easily causing Alana to cringe. So a head-on fight wasn't going to work here. So his Nidoran's attack power was greater than Monarch's. So she would have to take an alternative path to damage it. It's a good thing that he had a move perfect for this situation.
"Alright Monarch, let's switch tactics. Use string shot."
The Caterpie nodded and began to spray silk at its opponent. The sticky silk began to wrap around the Nidoran. It slowed down a bit as its steps were hindered by the silk that Monarch had shot out. Jackson still seemed plenty confident though.
"You kidding me? Are you giving up or something? Nidoran use tackle again."
The Nidoran slammed right into Monarch again, knocking him back. Tears began to build up within his eyes as the damage piled up. Alana on the other hand was grimacing. Maybe this wasn't the best plan. Her mind floated towards the strategy of weakening Nidoran enough to take it out more easily with Fefnir. That was probably her best shot at the moment. It would be unfair to Monarch, but this was the only way Alana saw that she could win.
"Hang in there Monarch. Go with a string shot again. You can do this."
"Ignore that move and tackle again."
Once again Monarch bound the Nidoran further reducing its speed. It was moving really slow now and seemed to be struggling. The power it was able to put into its tackle move seemed to have been reduced as well. When Nidoran hit him, Monarch only flinched.
"One more time Monarch."
"Push through and knock it out with another Tackle."
One last time Monarch bound up Nidoran with its sticky silk. The Nidoran struggled to move towards the Caterpie, but it was wrapped up in too much silk to move now.
"Monarch go and use tackle," Alana said, realizing that this was her shot. If her opponent couldn't move, then Monarch would have no trouble beating down the physically stronger pokemon.
Alana put this strategy in the back of her head as Monarch slowly began to tackle the Nidoran until it was knocked out. How the tables had turned. Jackson seemed to be pretty astonished by the turn of events, while Alana was looking rather smug until a rapid beeping blared from her Pokedex. Ignoring the beeps, she cheered as the Nidoran fainted. Now it was a two-on-one battle. Jackson muttered under his breath but recalled Nidoran to her Pokeball. Taking the second off of his belt, he tossed it out revealing his starter pokemon, Bulbasaur.
"Monarch, let's tie his pokemon up again."
"You're going to use that strategy again? How lame, can't you think of something else?"
Jackson was pretty annoyed. If he let her do that again he would definitely lose. He needs to knock out that stupid Caterpie before it tied down his pokemon again. Should he avoid it? Or go for another tackle. He looked closely at Caterpie and noticed a small barb embedded in his body. Nidoran's poison point had poisoned it. He should be able to knock it out from her.
"Don't back down, take out that Caterpie with Tackle."
"Really? How well did that work for you last time?"
Bulbasaur picked up speed and ran towards the worm pokemon as he blasted him with the sticky silk. Monarch was once again thrown back while Bulbasaur was slowed down by the strands of string.
"Alright Monarch, let's get another one in… Monarch?"
The caterpie keeled over fainting. Jackson pumped his fist, as Alana stood there trying to figure out why Monarch had fainted. He had taken some damage from the first fight, but not enough to get taken out in one hit. The Pokedex had continued to beep, and she whipped it out of her bag to silence the machine. Opening it, the device held the text 'Caterpie has been poisoned'. Oh, well shit. Alana felt like smacking her own head. So Jackson's Nidoran had the poison point ability. She should have been more careful.
"Sorry Monarch, I should have paid more attention." Alana returned him to his Pokeball. Well, the Bulbasaur was still slowed down now. With a type advantage, she should be able to finish off the grass type pretty easily. "Fefnir, let's finish this up."
Fefnir jumped out of her Pokeball blasting fire. Alana frantically jumped to stamp out the embers that landed on the grass. Burning down the forest would be horrible. She needed to catch a water-type pokemon as soon as possible. She was a walking fire hazard without one. Jackson was racking his brain for a way to win. He hadn't wanted to fight Charmander this way. Bulbasaur readied his vines to fight. He observed their surroundings. Trees, branches eureka! A flash of inspiration blasted through Jackson.
"Alright, Fefnir use ember."
"Bulbasaur use vine whip. Aim for the branch above you, and also one above Charmander."
Fefnir's fire crashed into Bulbasaur doing critical damage. Even through the pain of the fire-type attack, Bulbasaur attached his vine to both of the trees as instructed.
"Hit him again Fefnir, don't let him rest."
"Bulbasaur, reel yourself up, and let go of the tree above you."
Bulbasaur quickly shot up avoiding the ember attack. It kept flying and caused a bush to catch fire. Alana briefly panicked, but thankfully for the two of them, Melody acted quickly and had Eve run over and put the fire out with a sand attack. Taking a deep breath, Alana calmed her nerves and was shocked to see that Bulbasaur was gone. Looking around, she was greeted by the sight of Bulbasaur swinging from tree to tree using its vines.
"Did you think of that right now?"
"Yeah, I came up with the strategy on the fly."
"That's awesome! Using the terrain to your advantage like that doesn't change the fact I'm going to win though."
"In your dreams Alana. I'm not done yet."
Charmander would begin to blast fire trying to hit Bulbasaur as it swung in between the trees. Melody deadpanned as she deployed Eve and Bubbles to prevent the forest from catching on fire. As the two rivals enjoyed their battle they had not realized that another party had been attracted by the passionate battle. A man and a woman clad in black stumbled upon the sight. They squinted to see the battle.
"Sonya, are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Asked the man. He seemed to be absolutely bursting at the seams with joy.
"You see them too? Then I'm not daydreaming?" Sonya asked, pinching herself. "Emmet we've hit the gold mine. A Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and an Eevee in one spot? This is almost too good to be true. Definitely the kids of some rich asshat."
"Who cares! Boss is going to flip when we come back with pokemon like that!" The man chattered excitedly. "Aright what's your opinion? Should we jump them now, or later?"
"Hmmm, well they are battling each other and they should be weakened from it. On the other hand, there are two of us and three of them. Think we should play the waiting game here."
"I agree. Let's follow them into the forest. We can lay in wait for a while and jump one of them while they sleep or something."
While the two partners schemed, Alana and Jackson's battle had continued. Bulbasaur had managed to dodge the embers, but just avoiding was going to go nowhere fast. He needed a method of attack while doing this.
"Fefnir aim for its vine. Stop it from swinging to the next tree." Alana called out. Nodding the Charmander waited for the Bulbasaur to attach its vine to the next branch.
"Bulbasaur bind up Charmander with your vines," Jackson ordered, thinking quickly. While soaring through the sky, Bulbasaur quickly attached its powerful vines to the fire-lizard pokemon. Fefnir struggled as it was bound up tightly. "Alright now reel it in and use tackle."
Bulbasaur pulled itself towards Fefnir, yanking it slightly off of the ground. With all of the momentum from the swinging, Jackson's Bulbasaur smashed into Alana's Charmander with great force. The two pokemon fell to the ground visibly dizzy. A feel of adrenaline gripped both trainers. Neither of their pokemon could take another hit like that. A sense of excitement shot through the two of them though. This was a lot of fun! Fefnir shook off its dizziness. On the command of Alana, she shot one more Ember attack. Bulbasaur weakly attempted to dodge, but it was too exhausted and was engulfed in the flames. The grass pokemon collapsed and fainted. The winners were Alana, Monarch, and Fefnir.
"Yes! You were awesome, Fefnir!" Alana exclaimed, grabbing her and hugging her close.
Jackson sighed in frustration, but couldn't help smiling as well. That had been such a rush! Coming up with strategies on the fly like that was pretty fun too. "You did good Bulbasaur. We'll get her next time."
A camera flash caught the two of them by surprise. There was Melody, smiling and holding her phone. Alana deadpanned, while Jackson's face puffed up a bit.
"Hey, next time you take a picture let me know! I gotta pose."
"Haha! I'll be sure to tell you next time then." Melody laughed. She dug into her bag and took out two revives for Jackson, and one for Alana. "Here use these. Afterward, we can spray'em down with potions and they'll be in fighting shape again."
Alana and Jackson crushed the revive crystals and sprinkled them over their Pokemon causing them to wake up. Bulbasaur and Nidoran turned away from Alana and huffed. They were definitely annoyed that they had lost. Fefnir walked up to Bulbasaur and let out a suspiciously smug sound. When Monarch woke up it squirmed up to Alana. Reaching down she gently patted his head. Smiling the Caterpie let out a happy noise. All and all it was a good experience for them all. After the healing commenced Jackson prepared to head deeper into the forest.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us? It'll be fun camping. Just imagine all three of us journeying together for a bit." Melody offered.
Alana mentally cringed. How was she just going to invite Jackson along like that? She felt like protesting the situation, but then she'd have to come up with a concrete reason besides I just want to be alone. That would come off as pretty rude. Fortunately for her, Jackson shook his head.
"I'll be fine, besides I'm going to use this time to train my partners up to fight Brock. Also don't want her to see the strategies I come up with. I'll make'em a surprise for our next battle." Jackson said, pointing at Alana. "Don't think things will play out the same next time."
Jackson parted ways with Alana and Melody with those parting words and made his way deeper into the forest. When he was gone, Alana smiled. It was nice to have someone to compete with. Being reminded of the upcoming battle with Brock she realized that she had kinda stacked the deck against herself. He used Rock types, and all of her pokemon were weak in some way. She should take this time to strategize, too. Her thoughts were interrupted when Melody clapped her on the back.
"Well, it's just you and me Alana. Would have been much more fun with the three of us, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes."
So the two set off deeper into the forest, unaware of the two tagalongs that they had run into. Melody peeked over at Alana as they walked. She was focused on dinking around on the Pokedex. They had already encountered quite a bit of pokemon on the way to. A living encyclopedia on every pokemon was nice, but she couldn't help but wonder if there was some pokemon out there it didn't have data on. She looked back over to Alana only to see her about to run into a low hanging. Melody quickly yanked her away, snapping her out of her trance. She blinked a couple of times, looked at Melody, looked at the branch, and blushed.
"Uh thanks, I really shouldn't be reading and walking in a place like this," Alana admitted sheepishly.
Melody waved it off, and they continued to wander through the forest. The silence was deafening, and the girl quickly began to get bored. You could only count the passing trees for so long before getting bored to tears. Her eyes began to scan the area for excitement until she spied an impressive-looking pokemon. It was big, yellow, and black striped, and was buzzing around the trees.
"Hey look at that! Haven't seen a pokemon like that before!" Melody said as her excitement reignited.
Alana looked up and went pale. A Beedrill, and when there was one there would definitely be more in the area. They usually weren't violent unless you disturbed them.
"Hey Melody, we should probably keep going. That pokemon can be pretty dangerous."
"Danger is my middle name! Besides if we played it safe all of the time this would hardly qualify as an adventure wouldn't it?"
"I don't think you-"
"WEEEEEEEEEE."
Melody froze and looked down. She had stepped on a Weedle. It had screamed out in pain, and that bee pokemon didn't seem too happy about it. It began to buzz pretty angrily. Melody put her hands up and backed up holding her hands up laughing awkwardly.
"Uh sorry for stepping on your friend. Uh, I'm just going to head out. Why don't you go back to buzzing up there."
The Beedrill didn't seem to share her desire for peace. In fact, it seemed like it had woken up and chosen violence. It swiped at Melody's head eliciting a duck from her. She quickly popped back up as a few strands of her hair fell to the ground. That was close! Melody nodded to Eve, who leaped forward to attack.
"Alright Eve knock'em down with a peg. Use tackle!"
Eevee hopped up a tree to get a better vantage point and slammed into the Beedrill. It did heavy damage causing the pokemon to fall to the ground stunned from the tiny fox's assault. Melody pumped her fist, and Alana stared on in shock. Melody pulled a Pokeball from her pocket but paused as the buzzing intensified. Three more Beedrill flew in angrily.
"Uh Alana, a little help?" Melody asked. Her voice cracked, and the confidence she was displaying seemed to melt away. "Hey, Bubbles help Eve out with a little covering fire. Use bubble.
The Squirtle nodded and began its own attack. However, its bubbles only seemed to annoy the Beedril even more. Leave it to Melody to stir up a nest of Beedril. Alana froze in place as Melody fought against the Beedril. Monarch hid behind Alana's left leg, but Fefnir snorted. She set Alana's pant leg on fire with a snort. Alana yelped and lept to put it out quickly.
"Fefnir!" She exclaimed, but that shock snapped her out of her stupor. "We'll talk about this later, use ember to back Bubbles up."
The Charmander smiled as her tail flared up. Opening her mouth, Fefnir began to pelt the opposing Beedrill with her flames. They caused the targets to flinch on contact, but they weren't going down for the count. Thankfully, Eve came through knocking them out one by with the help of the other two pokemon. Melody pumped her fist smiling at Alana which earned a thumbs up from her. Alana felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through her. Unfortunately, their celebration would be cut short by even more buzzing. Now there were five more Beedrill, and they didn't seem happy either. Then, four more quickly joined the fray too. Alana looked at Melody, Melody looked at Alana
"RUN!"
The two took off quickly recalling their pokemon and running deeper into the forest. They hopped between trees, jumped over roots, and even trailed off the path. Hours later they finally came across a clearing.
"A-are they gone?" Alana asked, wheezing.
"I think so, I don't hear buzzing anymore." Melody huffed.
"That was crazy! We could have died."
"But you can't deny that it was fun."
"Next time you want to have that type of fun, I'll just leave you behind."
"CRAAAAACK"
Both of them reacted by covering their heads. They looked around for the horde of Beedrill but found no signs of them. Another loud CRACK sounded once more. This time they looked around in confusion. After another crack, Melody's eyes hovered towards Alana's egg container. She shook Alana and pointed towards it excitedly. The egg was hatching. Alana's eyes widened, and she quickly put the egg down and sat down. It began to shake violently and glowed brightly before the surprise pokemon finally revealed itself. It was a small, blue, serpentine-like pokemon with a white underbelly with fins on its head. Its small purple eyes looked up at Alana.
"ALANA!" Melody exclaimed quickly, flashing a picture of the two. "That's a Dratini! Those are so beyond rare! Where did you get an egg like that?"
"My… Dad." She responded. Alana's expression was clouded over making it a bit hard to read. Was she excited? It seemed like there was a bit of disappointment mixed in there. Alana pulled her Pokedex from her pocket and scanned the small serpent.
"Dratini, the dragon pokemon. Dratini sheds its skin as it grows, often doing so while hidden behind large powerful waterfalls."
Alana POV
A part of me knew it. Of course, he would give me a pokemon like this. Was this his way of saying sorry or something? I just don't know what to do with it. It was no doubt going to be a powerful addition to my team, but why couldn't he come to bring it to me directly. I sigh and look down at my Pokedex. So it was a girl, too. The moves it knew where… Leer, Wrap, and Extreme Speed.
"Your dad must be someone pretty awesome to get a pokemon like that! The only way to get them is rumored to be from this old dragon clan." Melody said, kicking back against a tree. "They called them mirage pokemon. Mind if I take another picture?"
"I wouldn't know, he's never around."
"Ouch, is your dad a heavy traveler too?"
"Huh? No, he just has an important position in the league, so he's rarely home. Think it's been about a year since I've seen him last."
"That sucks," Melody said in a sympathetic tone. We just sat there for a couple of seconds in silence. I couldn't take my eyes off of the small Dratini. It was honestly a beautiful little guy. "Hey Alana, my dad isn't around very much either. He's been chasing this legend around since I was a little girl. He used to tell me all of these stories about my home."
I looked at Melody. For the first time, she didn't really seem to be very happy. The look on her face was all too familiar. I couldn't help but empathize with her at this moment. Standing amongst the trees in this ambient forest.
"Could you tell me one of those stories?"
"Well, it's a story about an old burnt tower in our city, one that used to be called the brass tower." Melody started. "Legends say that it was a beautiful tower decorated in brass, and was the twin to the Tin tower, another tower in the city. It was that the guardian of the skies rested on the Tin Tower, and the guardian of the seas found its refuge atop the Brass Tower."
She told the story as if she had heard it a million times. I couldn't help but get sucked into the legend with the absolute reverence that Melody spoke with. It was like something I used to read out of a book. My heart quicked as I was absorbed into the tale.
"Around 150 years ago a disaster would strike. In a fierce storm, lightning would strike the brass tower. A gruesome fire would engulf the tower in a blaze of horror. Three dog Pokemon would be trapped within. With no way to get out they perished. Perhaps it was a pity, or perhaps the guardian of the skies didn't feel they deserved such a gruesome death. Either way, it revived the three dogs. Their names were Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. They are destined to roam the lands for the rest of the time. The guardian of the seas fled once the tower burned, and the guardian of the skies set out to find a trainer pure of heart."
"That was amazing! Wouldn't it be so cool to meet a pokemon like that?" I asked. "I've read about some at school, but nothing on this level."
"Haha, well every little kid knows this. They call us the city that even now bears the mark of its history." Melody said with a nostalgic tone to her voice. "That's another reason why I started my journey. I wanted to find these legends just like my dad. I've got no leads of course, but what's the fun in knowing exactly where to go."
"You're kinda weird. You know that right?"
"I like to call it uniquely brained."
"That's one way of putting it. We should probably set up camp for the night."
It was a quick job. Melody was actually pretty good at pitching a tent. She must have had a lot of practice. I couldn't help but be a little bit envious as I struggled with mine. Well, that's one of the reasons that I brought the sleeping bag. I spread it out and laid it down. Today had been pretty eventful, and my body was super sore. I closed my eyes, but they flashed open as something climbed in with me. It was the Dratini. Come to think of it, I hadn't nicknamed her. Even if it was from him, that shouldn't be her fault, right?
"Hey there, I'm going to call you Dragna from now on, okay?"
Dragna seemed content with the name. She snuggled up with me in the sleeping bag as Fefnir and Monarch came closer as well. This was a nice end to the first day. I allowed my eyes to close, and I slowly drifted to sleep.
Third Person POV
A few hours into the night, and Melody snapped awake. Her stomach grumbled loudly, she had forgotten to eat again and needed to use the bathroom. She quietly opened her tent and saw Alana sleeping on the ground with her team. It was pretty cute all things considered. Melody took out her phone, and went for a picture, but decided against it. She probably wouldn't like it very much if she did. She carefully snuck away from camp. After finishing her business, she made her way back but heard a couple of hushed voices. Ducking behind a tree, Melody strained her ears to hear them.
"Thought we lost them after they triggered those Beedrill. All the strife of following them was worth it." a voice said from the clearing. From Melody's perspective, it seemed like a woman.
"I know! Those stings were completely worth it! I can barely feel my arms anymore, but this will net both of us a promotion!"
"What type of girl has access to a Charmander and a Dratini though? Must be some uber-rich kid. Where do you think the other one's at?"
"Can't be far. There's still a spare tent out here. We can wait for her to come back and double team her."
Melody bit her lip. This was bad. She tried to locate Alana and quickly found her struggling frantically against whatever rope they had tied her up with. It was clear that she was distressed by the way she was panicking. She could see that Fefnir and Dratini were restrained, too. The two people in those funky black suits must have snuck up on Alana while she was asleep. Oh Arceus, what if she hadn't woken up. Melody grabbed her chest. Just what type of people attacked others and stole their pokemon? She began to sweat, she was getting dizzy. This was too much. She didn't want to lose Eve or Bubbles. She should run. She should just get out of here.
"HELP SOMEONE PLEASE."
Melody's thoughts were slashed through by Alana's plea. It snapped Melody out of her daze. She couldn't just leave her like this. Alana didn't want her journey to end here either. She had to do something,
"She got the gag out. Wanna put it back in Emmet?"
As the man walked over towards Alana a couple of Bubbles flew over towards Sonya. They popped on her harmlessly but was enough to get her attention.
"Um hey there. Could you stop messing with my friend?"
Melody cursed her inability to think of something clever to say at the moment. It was more important to grab their attention though. The man stopped and turned towards Melody. The woman seemed to freeze too. They both seemed shocked by her choice.
"You're either very brave or very stupid girly," Emmet said after a few moments to process what just happened.
"I'd say she's just really stupid. You know you could have just run away right?" Sonya added on.
"Well if I did I wouldn't be able to kick your butts for ruining our camping trip." Melody was maintaining her calm, but inside she was going ballistic. If this didn't work then she was in major trouble. Actually, she could make it double. "Well do you want to battle or not?"
The black-clad pair looked at each other, then back to Melody. Then they began to laugh.
"I don't think you know who you're dealing with here. That's not surprising considering we're all the way out here."
"Let's clue her in to the fact. We're team rocket girl. I don't think you're ready for this."
Without further words, they both tossed out a pokemon each. One seemed like a rock rhino, and the other one was a gravely mess. Melody took out her Pokedex to get a grasp on what she was dealing with.
"Graveler, the rock pokemon. This pokemon is often seen rolling down mountains. Anything that gets in its way is sure to be flattened." The Pokedex rolled off before going to the next "Rhyhorn, the spikes Pokemon. It's covered in a tough armor, giving its tackle attack an extraordinary destructive power."
"Alright, Bubbles use Water Gun on the Graveler," Melody called.
The spay of water came into contact with Graveler doing critical damage despite the obvious gap of strength between them. Emmet and Sonya didn't seem to be very intimidated though.
"Graveler strike back with Rock Throw."
"Rhyhorn spear it with Horn attack."
"Quick use Withdraw."
Bubbles quickly retracted into his shell as the two pokemon jumped forward to ravage it. The defensive strength of Squirtles shell would allow it to survive the onslaught though. Eve on the other hand had quickly made her way towards the confined Pokemon. Fefnir. Dragna and Monarch. As the two were distracted, she freed them from the cage with a powerful tackle attack. Fefnir quickly ran over to Alana and burned off the bindings for Alana. She responded with a quick pet to her head before quickly getting to her feet. She scooped Monarch into her arms.
"Hey Monarch, I need you to crawl up into the tree. Once you get there I'll need you to use string shot on that Rhyhorn." Alana commanded. She quickly scooped Dragna into her arms. She was not about to force a pokemon that had just been born hours ago to battle. "Fefnir I go back up Bubbles with Growl."
"Hey, good job Eve! Now attack the Rhyhorn with Bite. Bubbles use Water Gun on the Graveler again."
Their combined attack formed a much battle circumstance, especially with the amount of damage that Eve could output. Fefnir ran over to join Bubbles in the offensive against Graveler, as Eve battled the Rhyhorn head-on. Even with Monarch's string shot, Rhyhorn seemed to be moving just fine, taking every moment to rip and tear at the threads of silk that threatened to bind it down to the ground.
"Don't let those little shits beat you Graveler. Use Rollout."
"Rhyhorn rear back and use tackle. Knock that little Eevee out."
"Hit it with one more water gun, Bubbles. You can do this. Eve keeps up the biting."
"Fefnir use smokescreen to cover Bubbles. Monarch keep using string shot to slow the Rhyhorn down."
The Graveler curled into a ball and rolled towards Bubbles and Fefnir, but the Charmander was able to quickly blast smoke out of her mouth giving herself and the Squirtle enough time to dodge out of the way. The third water gun seemed to greatly stagger the rock type. It was on the verge of fainting. Sonya saw the state of her Graveler and frowned. That wouldn't do at all.
"Emmet let's do formation 3." She said quickly
"Roger that."
Hearing this order, Graveler rolled back towards Fefnir and Bubbles. Once it got close the two pokemon jumped out of the way, but the pokemon exploded. Leaving a sizable crater, all three pokemon had fainted. Rhyhorn on the other hand ignored Eve and started charging right towards Melody. Her eyes widened, and she quickly threw herself out of the way. They were attacking them now? Sonya began to make a move to take down Melody.
"Monarch change targets. Bind up that woman." Alana called.
Caterpie quickly shifted gears and sniped Sonya before she could tackle Melody to the ground. Releasing a sigh of relief, she flashed Alana a thumbs up. Eve quickly jumped in front of the running Rhyhorn and jumped on its head. She would continuously bite the rock type over and over. Sonya squirmed under her restraints, and Emmet looked thoroughly annoyed.
"Rhyhorn shake that Eevee off and use Bulldoze," Emmet commanded. The Rhyhorn began to violently shake as Eve hung on with her teeth for dear life. Finally, it managed to throw her off, and as soon as she hit the ground, the Rhyhorn stomped violently. The area they were in began to quake, throwing Alana, Melody, Emmet, and Eve off balance. "Follow up with Tackle now that that little bugger can't dodge."
The Rhyhorn barreled towards Eve, who was slammed back into a nearby tree. Huffing and puffing, she slowly got back to her feet.
"Monarch attach a string shot to the Rhyhorn," Alana called out. "But don't let go."
"That won't work you little brat. Rhyhorn finish the Eevee off with a tackle."
"Now pull yourself in, and use your own tackle."
"Eve use a helping hand to help Monarch out."
Eve weakly glowed causing Monarch to glow as well. The Rhyhorn barreled towards her, but the Caterpie slammed into its back at breakneck speeds. Falling to the ground, Monarch looked up at the towering rock rhino and cowered. It just stood there. One second, two seconds, three seconds, before falling to the ground.
"What the hell!?" Emmet exclaimed, clutching his head. It only took another command for him to be tied up just like his partner.
It took a moment for the two to realize what had just happened, but the two exploded in celebration. They hugged each other, they hugged Monarch and Eve respectively. That was not all that happened though, Monarch began to glow. He began to spray himself with his own silk as he slowly morphed shape until the glow died down, and it had taken another form.
"Melody Monarch evolved!" Alana exclaimed, shaking Melody in excitement. She ran up to him and picked him up smiling. Melody quickly snapped a picture of the two smiling herself. After the brief moment of celebration, the two turned their attention back to the grunts. "So what do we do with them?"
"I don't know, who are they anyway?"
"Who are we? You two are so ignorant. When our boss hears about you they'll be nowhere that you can hide!" Emmet shouted.
"Yeah, crossing Team Rocket will not go unpunished. Mark my words." Sonya added in.
A flash of realization flew through Alana's face. Team Rocket? They were a bunch of thieves that stole pokemon and committed all sorts of crimes. They had never been spotted around Viridian though, these two must have gone out of their way to come out here. That was weird. Anyway…
"Let's just call the police and leave them here."
And so the two Team Rocket Operatives were left for the police to deal with. Relying on each other for support the two trainers finally made their way through the forest after a week. Now they were at the first true roadblock in their journey, Pewter City where the rock-hard Brock lay in wait.
A/N: Well it seems that we have had our first interaction with Team Rocket-
Alana: Wait does that mean we'll encounter more of them?
Melody: No matter how many step up I won't let'em take Eve or Bubbles away from me!
Well anyway, see you in the next chapter when we dive into Pewter City.
