Bakugo's origins
Resume: The story of the origins of Bakugo Katsuki's insecurities and the girl related to them. Just because their story is why he's so afraid to be weak.
Disclaimer: My Hero Academia is not my toy, I just play with it.
Bakugo Katsuki looked at the blond hero, the symbol of peace, All Might, amazed by the strength of his words and by his punches. A Heroe can always break out a tough spot! He could feel the emergency of the critical situation where they were all, but their teacher didn't seem bothered by, or to feel the pressure because of it. He just stood straight in front of the enemies, like a rampart between them and his students.
This is what being a pro hero means..., he thought, looking at the hole of the USJ's ceiling. The villain had no chance against the strongest hero of Japan, no matter how many improvements Tomura Shigaraki had made on him. He was just not enough to make the man tremble.
Beside him, Bakugo could feel Deku's relief, as if the boy was worried for his idol. This idiot seemed about to cry, looking at the blond while he turned to look at the blue-haired villain, apparently the leader of the attack. Surrounded by the dust resulting from his combat, he spoke confidently.
"Now villains, I'm sure we'd all like to end this as soon as possible. »
Kirishima and Shoto, behind him, seemed enough focused to stay on guard, keeping in mind that the whole situation was definitely not an exercise, but that their lives were on the line. All Might handled that by himself, not needing them, but they had to be careful. However, now that the Nomu had been ejected, the level of danger had decreased, making them a little bit more comfortable.
"As expected, it looks like there is no need for us to fight." Said Todoroki Shoto, half of his body covered in ice.
"Midoriya! We should get out of here now!" Kirishima added. "It'll be worse if we end up getting taken in hostage instead!" But the boy's eyes furrowed. Katsuki looked discreetly at him, trying to see what this idiot was looking at. He seemed to see something that was not visible to them. Which secrets Deku was keeping from him? And how, of all heroes, All Might could have been implied? Katsuki sighed as he saw Izuku ready to activate his Quirk. This reckless fool was about to throw himself in between All Might and his opponents.
"This is enough!" exclaimed a feminine voice. And suddenly, right before the boy can rush to Kurogiri in his attempt to stop him, a giant barrier came across, separating them from All Might and the villains. The barrier seemed translucent, shining under the lights, and they practically could see through despite its thickness. The colors of everyone's shapes were visible, blurred, and vague.
"I-ice?" stuttered Kirishima.
"No," contradicted a shocked Shoto. "It's not cold enough to be ice. Glass, maybe? »
But Katsuki knew. It was definitely not an ice barrier, nor a glass one. It was something else. Something from his past.
"It's diamond," he whispered, attracting surprised looks.
"Have you seen this before?" asked Endeavor's son.
"Long time ago," he admitted. "And I know the person that made this barrier. »
Plus, when she left, Katsuki remembers how defeated, depressed, and raging she was. And it was his fault.
"Katsuki get out! We're on the fire line, we must move!" she screamed.
The ten-yeared boy raised his red eyes on her, rage burning in it. How could she want to turn her back to a fight? They both wanted to be heroes, they had to fight.
"Please, listen to me Tsuki. We can do nothing right now. We're not strong enough. You will kill us with your stubbornness."
But the boys had his hands ready, already sparkling. Katsuki was pretty sure that he could protect civilians from the villains that attacked the district and that he could even defeat him before the heroes' arrival. The villain was a gigantism type, but his explosions were stongs enough. He was confident. He always was, after all, not like this Deku idiot.
The girl looked up at the villain. The man was three buildings above them, and they were in the middle of the road that led to him. He literally was on them. She felt her body freeze, paralyzed by the killing intentions of their opponent and by the danger he actually was. She was terribly conscient that her life, her friend's, and her brother's were threatened. Like in a dream, she saw him sweep a building with the back of his arm. The walls exploded, projecting his parts into the whole street. It suddenly was like a bloody rain, as civilians' bodies, families' ones, and resident's were ripped apart.
"We need to move on, Katsuki! Please come with us or I couldn't protect you!" she cried in the chaos.
The hell could have been unleashed on earth, she wouldn't have seen the difference. The boy was too stubborn. She threw a glance at her twin brother, ten meters behind her, as frozen as she was.
"I don't fucking need your protection, you brat!" The blond got angry. "Go away and hide if you want to, but I will not turn my back to a villain!"
"He's gonna kill you, and us at the same time, you fool!"
The chaos increased again, the criminal destroying another building, even closer than before. She felt drops of blood falling on her, and it almost seemed to come directly from the red clouds in the sky. On this day, she encountered the real hell, as the parts of walls were falling closer and closer to them. She practically didn't see the one, huge, that was about to touch down right where they were. Instinctively, she activated her Quirk, creating a dome of a diamond.
"Hoshi!" She turned back to her brother, trying to throw her power at him. She really tried to reach him, to be fast enough, strong enough, enough all. But she was not. She was ten, and the end of him was right here, right now. The part fell on the dome, cracked on two parts, and as her power stopped one meter near her twin, it crushed the boy. She saw his hand protrude from the wall. She saw the red blood spreading on the asphalt. She saw his death.
A sob cracked in her throat. Tears fell on her cheeks. And then she ran. She dismissed her dome and ran at him, crying all she had. She screamed her pain, her loss, her rage. She heard her voice crack as a new sob cut her breath. Then, she screamed louder. She lost all her almost-perfect control on her Quirk, unleashing a peak-shaped diamond wave, like a surging tsunami right on the villain.
Using her Quirk to destroy the part of the wall that fell on her brother, she reached his body, holding him tight against her chest, and after a few seconds, all became black around her.
"I'm leaving," she said.
Katsuki looked up at her. He couldn't believe her. She was his only real friend! She was smart, strong, gentle with him, no matter what he said. She was his friend. She understood him as nobody did. She was the only person he had ever met that calmed him without even trying. She was his comforting zone, a safety net for him.
"H-How? Where? How could you?!" he screamed.
The young girl turned her head to admire, for the last time, his features. He was strong, smart, and she knew how kind he could be when he wanted. But for now, the only thing she saw when looking at him, was her twin's death, the loss of the better part of her soul.
"I'm sorry, Tsuki. I need time. I need to move where every street is not invaded by my brother's memory. I need time to forgive you. I need time to forgive myself. If I stay, I will destroy us both. I will make you suffer just because you didn't listen to me, on that day. I am really sorry for all that happened, and I hope you will forgive me too. I don't want to make you responsible for this tragedy, I- I know how hard it is for you in this world. But you know, I'm confident. You will become a hero and a great one. »
Katsuki, for once in his life, shut the fuck up, listening to her. He knew that she barely talks and that he had to listen this time, not just hear the words she said like he used to.
"I move to Switzerland. They have middle schools with hero courses. I will become a hero because I promised that I would. I promised it to you and to Hoshi. One day, you will need me again, and I will be here, I swear. But for now, I have to find my path by myself. I will come back. Please, wait for me. »
His throat tied, Katsuki nodded. "I will," he whispered.
And then, just like that, she was gone.
Every glance fell on the young woman standing still on the top of the barrier. She had a fiery look, her red hair floating peacefully. There was not an ounce of fear on her features, only strange confidence.
"The rescue team is on its way. Heroes will be here soon. In fact, they already are." she said strongly. Her large boots slammed on the diamond when she walked on it. Cargo pants, bulletproof vest on a white shirt, hair picked up in a high ponytail, fingerless gloves she looked like a soldier. In fact, the gun in the holster itself, hooked at her hips, said something about it. She took it and pointed it at Shigaraki Tomura. "Hands up, Shigaraki."
The man cringed before walking into Kurogiri's portal, disappearing into the darkness while mumbling something about a "game over". She sighed, knowing that she could do nothing to hold him in the USJ, and lowed her weapon. Pushing down her barrier, only keeping the one that covered All Might, the young woman tidied her gun and looked at the four boys in front of her. Well, in fact, she looked at one particularly.
"I told you I'd be here when you'd need me," she said calmly.
"Well you're pretty late, bitch," he mumbled.
"Am I really?" she grinned.
And then, they just rushed at each other like there's nobody, ignoring the shocked glances of the other students, and embraced their friend, enjoying their reunion after six years apart.
"I missed you," he admitted, knowing that she would be the only one to hear him.
"I missed you too. »
And Hinode Ginga, the fiery Bakugo Katsuki's friend knew now, how much he was strong, pushed by the memory of Hoshi's death.
This story is my first try in English. I lack vocabulary, I know it, but at least I'm trying (even if it's with Grammarly's help). I wanted to do a One Shot with the mysterious girl I had in my head when I thought of Bakugo. I wanted this memory to be the origin of Bakugo's lack of confidence, and his fear of being weak. He hadn't been able to protect Hoshi and is partly responsible for his death, so it caused some damages to him. Plus, if she hadn't tried to protect him, Hoshi would never have died on this day. Well, this was fun to write, hope you'll enjoy it.
Fun fact: the girl's name means Rising Sun Galaxy, and her brother's one means Rising Sun Star. (Hinode means Rising Sun, Ginga means Galaxy, and Hoshi means star.) Knowing that "Tsuki", Bakugo's nickname, and a part of his name, means Moon.
