Running Away!
Disclaimer - (Cause fanfiction is tricky ground and I hope not to offend the creator of the original story and get sued)
This is a fanfiction, a work of fiction. It is an unofficial, non-canon alternate story based on Asaph Fipke, Todd Garfield, Ken Pontac, Rob Hoegee, and Scott Sonneborn's story "Slugterra". Most of the media - such as the images and video's used in this fanfiction - are from the web. Thus, most of them aren't mine (because I really, really can't draw) unless mentioned. To fit the story, images are also edited by the photo editor. So they aren't mine, just edited.
Have you ever written something from the back of your head, and then realize oh sh** these were someone else's words. Yeah, that just happened, to my disclaimer no less. Yeah, that just happened to me. Anyway, like 40% of this disclaimer belongs to KairuSui from quotev
Also if you own a picture or Video that I found online, and you either want your name added, or me to take it down. Please contact me and we can talk it out.
P.s. I also ask that you do not copy my work and publish it onto any other website (I jump around on a lot of fanfiction websites...) If you're gonna use my idea, please ask me (I'll 99.99% say yes unless you're super duper rude). If I don't contact you within a week, then just assume I'm giving you the all clear and go for it. Just remember to credit me.
I was inspired to write this by "All The Differences" by "mystery writer5775". That's also where I got the idea that Eli runs away because Will says he's too young to sling.

people run away,
to see who will follow them."

Eli glared at his father.
His father glared back.
Both of their postures tense.
Neither, looking away from the other.
His father was the one to break from the unofficial staring contest the two were trapped in, sighing. "Eli. I love you. I really do. And that's exactly why I can't allow you to go to Slugterra till you're ready. You really don't know anything about it yet.."
"Because you haven't taught me anything." Eli growled out. Using all his self control to keep his inner Alpha in check and to not shout at his father. "You refuse to teach me anything. So of course I won't know anything about a world I wouldn't even believe existed if not for the slugs you bring back home with you."
A hurt look flashed across Will's face, causing a guilty feeling to grow in Eli's stomach. 'Ok. Maybe I went too far with the last comment.' Eli thought.
"I told you Eli. I'll tell you everything you want to know. Answer all your questions. Teach you everything I know." The older alpha tried to reason. "But only when you're old enough. When you're 18."
Eli rolled his eyes. "Yeah. Well I am ready. I practically raise myself. You've been gone half my life. Disappearing for days and weeks on end. And well you were gone. I was here. Raising myself. Making excuses for why my father couldn't pick me up, or attend my parent teacher conferences. Telling neighbours that you were away because of work. Spending holidays alone. Shopping for groceries and supplies alone. At 15 you could leave me alone, and I would know how to function."
Will stood up. "That doesn't matter. Slugterra is a lot different from the Surface World in various ways. School, traditions, and shopping are a lot different there, than they are here. The way of life down there is completely different." The older alpha walked to the door. "Eli. I promise you that when you're 18. When you're an adult. I'll take you with me to Slugterra. Until then you'll just have to wait son. I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do about that."
Eli lay in his bed that night, 3 hours after his father had left, tossing and turning. Unable to sleep.
It wasn't right.
His father was willing to leave him alone weeks at a time. But wouldn't let him even learn anything but the basics about Slugterra or slinging.
"That's it!" Eli shouted to no one. Spring up and off his bed.
A plan formed in his head. His father told him he wouldn't be back for at least two weeks. So if he left by tonight, it would give him two weeks till his father would even notice he's missing.
So that would mean he would get at least two weeks to prove himself to his father. Eli thought.
He packed a couple extra pairs of clothes, supplies, and some food.
Eli could feel his heart beating like a drum in his chest as his hand touched the cold doorknob.
Butterflies filed his stomach as realisation of what he was about to do finally caught up with him.
This was it.
He was really gonna run away from home.
'It isn't too late yet.' a tiny voice in his mind said. 'You can put everything away. Go back to bed. It'll be like you never even thought of it.'
But that was the thing. He has thought about it. He is ready to do it. And the other part of him agreed. A louder voice overpowered the quiet one.
It told him to go. That if he didn't do this now. If he didn't take this step. Then he would be proving his father right.
That he was still a child.
That he wasn't ready.
"No! I am ready! I can do this." Eli shouted. His voice and will echoing around the room.
With his mind made up, Eli opened the door and walked out.
He only had the bits of pieces of information he had gotten from the few stories his father had told him, to find the passageway that would lead him down to Slugterra.
It took him 45 minutes of looking, once inside the tunnel, to find it.
But in the end he did.
The young alpha recognised the star symbol that he has seen numerous times on his fathers clothing, on a button in the sewers. Eli nervously pressed it. Hoping for it to not be a dead end.
The wall opened to reveal a chair. Eli remembered his father telling him that one of the first things he always did when he got down to Slugterra was usually sending the chair back up. So he wouldn't forget to do it.
Eli sighed to himself, relieved that his father had already done that.
Because if he hadn't.
Then all he could say is that it would have been a long friction burn journey down to Slugterra.
One that his gloves surely, wouldn't have survived.
Eli sat down in the chair that several Shanes before him had.
Once he was sure all the safety measures were in place.
He pressed the glowing orange button and started his journey to Slugterra.
Here's a riddle. Feel free to have a go at it. You can leave your answer in the comments.
And in the next chapter, I'll tell you if you're right or wrong. Along with another riddle.
Riddle:
What has to be broken before you can use it?
