"Dispatch here is 727L30 come in" Athena called into her radio
"727L30 here is dispatch" A voice came over the radio, luckily not sounding anything like Maddie Buckley, this conversation wasn't one that should be taken over the radio. "727L30 here is dispatch come in" the dispatcher said when Athena didn't answer
"Dispatch, I'm making my way to the VA hospital with a young boy, 9 years old and in need of care, then I'm checking out" Athena said, holding Christopher close and trying her hardest to stay professional.
"727L30 that's noted and we'll call ahead to the VA hospital and let them know you're on you're way. Can you tell us more about the boy's injuries?" the dispatcher asked and Athena looked at Christopher in her arms who was now asleep
"That's a negative dispatch" Athena said
"727L30 is the child breathing and conscious at the moment?" the dispatcher pressed
"Breathing's normal and asleep at the moment" Athena said
"727L30 that's noted, medical personal will be with you as fast as possible" the dispatcher said, this had Athena stop where she was with Christopher still in her arms
"Medical personal will be ready when we arrive, this boy is in need of a thorough check up" Athena said with gridded teeth into the radio, sinking back the lump in her throat knowing that the child she was talking about was Christopher and not wanting to think about her own baby possibly being out there in a worse condition
"727L30, medical personal is stretched to the limit with the multiple tsunami victims, your victims injuries doesn't sound life threatening at the moment, but a medical professional will come to you as soon as possible to assess further once you arrive at the VA hospital" the dispatcher said over the radio, keeping professional. Athena sighted
"I understand dispatch, we will be at the VA hospital in less than 2 minutes" Athena said spotting the VA hospital and all the chaos surrounding it just then
"727L30 that's noted, dispatch out" the dispatcher ended their radiocommunication and Athena walked the last block to stand in the middle of the chaos that was the VA hospital and walking over to a lady with a clipboard in hand
"Hallo, what's your name please" the lady asked without looking up
"My name is sergeant Athena Grant with the LAPD" Athena said stoically making the woman raise her head
"Oh I'm sorry. What can I do for you, sergeant?" the woman asked mildly embarrassed
"This young man", Athena said, making a gesture towards Christopher who was still sleeping soundly in her arms, "is Christopher Diaz, he was found in the water" Athena said, getting teary eyes and blinking them away, taking a deep breath before continuing: "He is 9 years old and has cerebral palsy" Athena said smiling at Christopher who just then repositioned himself in his sleep. The woman smiled at Athena
"Okay, a doctor will be with you as soon as possible, why don't you go inside and wait in the waiting area" the woman smiled, and then when they were about to leave asked: "What was his name again, just if any family comes looking?". Athena could have kicked herself, Eddie, she still hadn't told him or any of the 118 what was going on
"Christopher, C-H-R-I-S-T-O-P-H-E-R, Diaz, D-I-A-Z. His father is a firefighter with the LAFD" Athena told and the woman looked at her with wide eyes and then at the boy before scribbling down his name on her clipboard
"Got it. I'll send him your way when he comes" the lady said with a shaky voice now
"Thank you, miss?" Athena asked suddenly realising that the woman still hadn't introduced herself
"Caroline" the young lady answered
"Thank you Caroline" Athena smiled and went inside with Christopher to wait, once seated she picked out her phone and found her husbands number, she took a deep steadying breath before pressing call it rang 3 times before going to voicemail, Athena looked at Christopher and sighted, "What do we do now?" she asked, not expecting an answer and not getting one.
