"Sergeant Grant" the doctor called when Athena was about to leave the hospital, Athena turned to look at him. "How is the young man, I heard his father finally arrived?" the doctor asked her
"Yes, he is fine, so brave about all of this. I was just about to leave to give them space and go see my own family" Athena said, feeling a small lump in her throat thinking of the one family member who wasn't going to be there, and maybe never again would be there, but she kept it in
"Yes and I'm glad I caught you before you left, it won't be long, we just got a John Doe in that we hoped you could file a missing persons report on to help identify him" the doctor explained, Athena nodded and followed the doctor to room 103 where John Doe was located
"Buck" Athena cried and ran to the bed when she saw the figure laying in the bed, how was this possible? She looked at the man laying unresponsive in the bed and then looked to the doctor with a questioning look and then back to the bed, she was sure this was Buck. "Oh baby what happened to you?" she asked stroking his chin, the doctor looked at her and didn't know what to say
"You… You know this man?" the doctor finally stammered out
"Yeah and he is not a John Doe, he is Evan Buckley or Buck" Athena proudly announced looking at her pseudo son with awe
"Evan Buckley, but wasn't that the man the young boy was asking for?" the doctor asked stunned
"Yes it is" Athena said, and then turned to look at the doctor. "You said he was brought in as a John Doe, what happened to him?" Athena asked horrified, the doctor looked at her deciding on how much to tell, they obviously knew each other and from the looks of it they were close, he nodded and decided to just tell her
"I'm afraid Mr. Buckley's injuries are quite extensive. Apart from all the small cuts and bruises he has sustained, which is a little worrisome since they don't seem to heal properly, do you know if Mr. Buckley is on any medication?" the doctor asked
"He is on blood thinners" Athena answered
"I see, that's a valuable piece of information that I will lay on to the staff treating him" the doctor said. "Now for the rest of his injuries he is severely dehydrated and exhausted, has suffered some broken ribs as a result of being reviewed on scene" the doctor continued but stopped when he saw the horrified look on Athena's face, which was getting paler for each injury listed. The doctor came over to her: "Why don't you sit down before we continue?" he asked and guided Athena to a chair
"My poor baby" Athena sobbed into her hands once seated
"He will be in the hospital for a while and need extensive care once he gets out, but he is stable for now and that's what matters" the doctor told her
"Thank you doctor" Athena said with teary eyes looking at her baby who was laying so small and still in the large hospital bed, he was so fragile to look at. She then dried her eyes and rose from the chair to take the doctor's hand. "I will notify his immediate family who will probably be around soon enough, and if there is any chance we can move him into room 104 or move the young boy from room 104 in here it would be much appreciated so that the family won't have to move between the two rooms" Athena said getting back to her professional role as sergeant Grant
"Consider it done miss Grant" the doctor nodded to her and left the room, as soon as he was gone Athena fell back into the chair and started sobbing, when she was done she found her phone and used it to take a picture of Buck which she send to the entire 118 along with a message reading VA hospital, room 103
