There was a gloomy silence inside the dojo as Carter shook his head. "No, you can't quit after just one," defeat he said wrapping Tommy's arm in a bandage. He looked at the other five young heroes, who like Tommy, all had the same look of defeat on the their faces.
Harvey looked up. "No! Dark Kat beat us because we are not heroes, just a bunch of kids," he replied. His words were met by the other agreeing with him, but Carter refused to let them give up.
"Think about the people you helped over what little time you have had," he said, turning on the TV.
There were many people who supported the Elite Six, but then Commander Feral appeared on the screen. He was frowning and what he said only broke the six heroes' spirit even more.
"If the Elite Six were true heroes, they would have obeyed the law and not try and be hot shots like the late SWAT Kats. Not only have they failed to stop Dark Kat, but they let him leave the scene of the crime with over a million dollars in damages to the nuclear power plant!" The commander shouted, clearly angry over the whole ordeal. But he didn't stop there. "And I just hope the Elite Six are watching, because I want them to know that if I ever catch them trying to take the law into their hands, I will arrest them and lock them up like the criminals they are."
Hector suddenly jumped up and destroyed the TV with his Crossbow. Carter shook his head. "Hector, don't let what your father say bring you down."
"I'm through!" Wally shouted, then picked his little brother up and placed him in his pouch. "We are not heroes, just kids that you took advantage of! You are no different than Dark Kat and his partners in crime." Well, Wally's words really hurt Carter and he watched sadly as the two kangaroos left the dojo.
Carter looked at the four remaining kids. "Take some time and meditate on what you want to do. If you don't come back, then that is your choice." he sighed, then went into his meditation chamber to make his report to the queen.
Later that day, Commander Feral came home to see a very upsetting sight. There was Hector, crying in the corner of the living room. That was something he did when he was a child. Being concerned for his son's well being, Commander Feral walked over and sat next to his son.
"You have a bad day?" he asked Hector.
Hector said nothing, but instead threw his arms around his father and began to sob very loudly. Finally, the young tom was able to choke out some words. "I'm sorry dad. I failed this city. I failed you..." Commander Feral had no idea what he was talking about, that was until Hector said something that left him completely speechless. "I am Saber. Member of the Elite Six!"
Well, the truth was out.
Commander Feral wanted to arrest the Elite Six, but he couldn't now. If word got out that his son was Saber, then Dark Kat and his followers would stop at nothing to kill him.
"Son, I-" Feral began, but Hector cut him off.
"I know what you think about me and the Elite Six. You hate us. I heard everything you said, and you were right." Hector said wiping his tears on his shirt sleeve.
Now Commander Feral felt even more upset. He loved his son and what he had said early was heard by his own son. He had to make things right with him. "Look..." he began softly, hugging Hector close to him. "I was angry and was in no right to blame you and the Elite Six for letting Dark Kat escape. You are my son, and there is nothing you could ever do to make me see you as a failure. In fact, the city needs you as do the Enforcers."
Hector felt his tears slowing. "You mean it?" he asked his father with a glimmer of hope.
Commander Feral smiled. Hector knew that smile was real. "I do," the commander told his son, then he picked him up and carried Hector to his room. It had been so long since Commander Feral had ever acted like a father to Hector. Placing his son in bed, Commander Feral tucked him in and kissed him goodnight.
"I love you, dad," Hector said with a smile.
His father smiled back. "I love you too, Hector."
The next morning, Hector and his father thought it would be great to spend some time together at the mall. While there, Hector picked up his PS5 he pre ordered, while his dad went shopping for a birthday gift for his wife. As Commander Feral was about to ask a clerk for the price on a very lovely pair of earrings, someone tackled him to the ground!
It was Rex Shard!
Pulling out his weapon, Commander Feral sought to arrest the criminal, but Rex wasn't alone. Two goons wrestled the weapon from the commander's hand and turned it on him. A shot rang out and Commander Feral felt his right leg lose all feeling in it. That could mean only one thing: he had been kneecapped by his own weapon.
Hector heard the shot and came running to see his father being held hostage by Rex Shard and his two goons. The young tom knew he had to help his father, but the fear of failing was becoming too much. Hector prayed and begged God for help.
"Be a hero," Carter said calmly as he handed Hector his suit. He had been standing behind the tom since the attack happened. Looking at the suit in his hands, Hector knew what he had been chosen for. "You know your path boy, now follow it!" Carter ordered.
As Rex Shard paced circles around the injured Commander Feral, the two goons were suddenly pulled up into the sky light above them. Rex looked up to see Saber land in front of him. The big kat smiled. "Brave of you Saber, I thought you had learned your lesson," he chuckled.
Saber scoffed at the criminal. "I am a slow learner," he said, then began to unleash attack after attack at Rex Shard. However, Rex wasn't just some everyday criminal, but a once decorated soldier of the armed forces. He blocked every blow and countered back with his own attacks, leaving Saber to rethink his plan.
Saber looked around and saw something that could prove very useful in bringing down Rex Shard. There, hanging on the ceiling was a giant sign. It was held by a single cable, but looked very strong and might prove difficult to cut. Saber however had no other choice. The young hero put his plan into motion. Saber blocked an attack from Rex and countered with a kick to the crotch.
"What are you doing?" Rex choked, gasping for air.
"Fighting dirty," Saber replied. Rex was about to speak, when he was cut off by another kick to the crotch. "Keep your mouth shut, Shard." Then he pushed the criminal back.
Rex Shard looked up and flashed Saber a dark smile. "Looks like we are very much alike, eh, Saber?" he asked, trying to get into the hero's head. But Saber wasn't buying it.
"Well at least I didn't go to jail for molesting kids," the hero laughed. It was working, Saber could see Rex getting angry. Rex Shard then ran forward, but Saber flipped him onto his back.
"Stupid kid," he growled getting back up. "Who do think you are talking to?"
Saber then went right for the throat with his next choice of words. "Not a soldier, that's for sure."
Rex lost it then. "SHUT YOUR MOUTH!" he shouted and charged Saber.
Saber had already won his fight against Rex Shard, but the criminal just didn't know that yet. As Rex lunged at Saber, the young hero jumped over him and took aim with his Glovatrix at the cable. He fired a Shuriken which cut the cable with ease.
Rex looked up. "Oh, crap," he said, before the sign came crashing down on top of him. It was over. Saber had won the fight.
Crowds of people came up to congratulate Saber on his victory. At first, he was just trying to say it was nothing until Commander Feral limped over to him. "Well done, Saber." The commander said proudly shaking his hand. "Your father should be very proud of you."
After that day, the Elite Six were starting to finally make some real progress in stopping crime. With Rex Shard locked up, it meant that Dark Kat was down one man. But so were the Elite Six, Wally and Joey had still not come back. And this was something that bother the young heroes.
