Jay wakes up the next morning, his legs entangled with Hayley's. She stirs next to him and snuggles herself in tighter to him, her hair smells of her shampoo, apples, and vanilla. He inhales and rest's his head on top of hers. He gets lost in the feeling of her, she was tiny up close, his mind wandered to him and her in the same position, except they were in his bed. The early morning sun high in the sky, their alarms not set to go off for two whole hours. They are relaxed and warm, they fit perfectly together. He is back to reality when Hayley shifts next to him.
"Jay? Oh my god I'm so sorry. Why didn't you kick me out, I'm so sorry!"
He steadied her, placing his hands one on her shoulder and one on the side of her face. Looking into her eyes, he could see the uncertainty. He took the inside of his lower lip and worried it between his teeth. She took her bottom lip in between her teeth. The sexual tension between them makes the air crackle, Hailey started to speak but Jay's phone went off ruining the moment.
The call was from Hank, an armed robbery on the west side, saw them in the car drinking coffee within the hour. Vanessa was waiting for Hailey when she got out of the truck. A smile on her face that said, "I know where you slept last night!"
"Morning, have I done something to upset you?" Vanessa asked.
"What? No why what's wrong?" she replied taking Vanessa by the shoulders.
"Well, you didn't come home last night, and I snapped at you when we last talked. I'm sorry OK I'm not used to having friends and family that check up on me. It's just…"
"Hey, we are good, OK? I stayed at Jay's; I thought your friend was coming over. Thought I'd give you some privacy." She smiled and winked at her friend.
"What friend, I went out for drinks with some guys from the academy and."
"Was your boy toy there?" Vanessa blushed. "Yes, but he was a gentleman and dropped me at home."
"Vanessa, you know I'm a detective right. So, I know who he is?"
"Listen just let's keep that between me and you and your boy toy!" Vanessa laughed.
"Hailey, Vanessa you planning on working today? Let's go!" Hank shouted, they laughed and pushed each other playfully. Hailey looked at Jay their eyes meeting and holding. Her stomach did funny things when they did that. Vanessa called it eye fucking, but it wasn't that, it was an unspoken promise to each other. They had been communicating like this since about the six-month mark into their work relationship, they would follow each other blindly, they had each other's backs. It was a hand on the others back on a raid or a take down. When they were ill, it was chicken soup and medication, warm hugs and in the summer months it was holidays at Jay's dad's cabin. Picnics in the park and beers with the team and of cause alone when cases were tough. It was just a matter of time until one of them broke and let their feelings go. The question was which one would be the first.
Hayley was sent to knock on doors with Kim and Jay. They found nothing of any use. The ring doorbells weren't any use either. The last door swung open outwards, knocking Hayley back down the stairs she had just climbed, smacking her head on the pavement. A Teen flying out landing next to her, his mom chasing him with a belt.
"Holy crap, I'm so sorry mam, are you ok? It's my mom she's gone crazy, she's trying to kill me please I'm so sorry!"
Jay was stopping the woman from coming further down the steps.
Kim had the boy who was scared, and Hayley was still on the floor holding her head. Kevin swapped places with Jay and took the mom inside, Jay helped Hayley up and into the car. The paramedics taking over to make sure she is OK.
Kim keeps hold of the kid, "Hey what's going on?" she asks
"My momma found some condoms in my room, she went crazy stared chasing me, I didn't see the lady on the steps, I'm so sorry is she OK?"
"OK how old are you?"
"They are not mine, they my sisters, she is seeing this guy and she wanted to be safe, she always does this then I end up in trouble. I'm 15 mam, I'm so sorry."
They sort him out and Hayley heads back to the district with Jay. They still have the original call to deal with. As they arrive Platt is there asking if she is OK and then Voight is asking her, she's not, her head throbs and she ends up running into the bathroom being sick. She's alone for about ten minutes throwing back the contents of her breakfast, the door to the bathroom opens and she expects it to be Kim, but it was Jay, she could smell his deodorant and fresh cologne, Cedar wood with citrus undertones. Its home. Jay finds her on the floor, head against the bathroom wall. Tears streaming down her face, she puts both her hands on her face, he says her name gently and places his hand on her back.
"Hey, come on, let's get you to med!"
"No, I'm good now. I promise, I'll just stay at my desk. Don't get to close its gross!"
Jay laughed "yeah because I've never seen you sick before! And for the record it's not gross, you're sick and I want to help you. Come on, get off the floor." Standing he held his hand out to help her up, she stood, and he wrapped his arms around her in a hug. Placing his chin on her head he inhaled, and her scent hit his nose, it enveloped him helped him relax and stand easy.
"You OK Kim?" Hayley asked as she melted into Jay's arms.
Kim had come in to check on Hayley but stood at the door not wanting to interrupt. She all but swooned at the cuteness between them. It was obvious that they were made for each other. Vanessa was extremely drunk a few weeks ago, telling her, Brett, Stella, and Natalie how they were together when they were at home. Kim had seen for herself how their dynamic had changed. Walking into the bathroom fully, Kim looked at them gasping when she saw Hayley's head had started to bleed again.
"Hayley, you need to go to Med. Your head is bleeding again." Jay pulled her so he could see her his hands not leaving her shoulders.
"Come on let's go, I'll call Will it will take 10 minutes tops and we will be back here. OK?" he asked.
"OK" she whispered as she made for the door pulling Kim into a hug.
The Emergency room wasn't that busy, Will was waiting for them at the door when they arrived.
"Come on trouble, let's get you sewn up." Smiling at Hayley, Will pulled her into a side hug as he walked towards bay 2. "You know you could just ask for my number if you wanted to see me again? No need to throw yourself down the stairs!" Hayley smiled as she felt her stomach roll, the nurse being quick to pass her a sick bowl.
"That's not right is it Will?" Jay asked the worry in his voice was endearing and Will gave him a knowing smirk.
"Jay calm down! she's in the right place, let's get her changed and looked at. You, go grab her a milky tea, with sugar in, not coffee. Ok?"
"Ok! You good Hayley?" he asks. The only reply being a thumbs up.
"Ok change your top and we will be back in a minute to ask you some questions." Will walked away. When he returned, Hayley had her head forward in her hands, the lights were off, and she had changed into the Hospital gown. The usual questions were asked medical history what happened etc.
As the nurse started taking blood, Jay returned, Natalie catching him hovering by the door.
"You ok Jay?" she asked.
"Yeah, Hayley is in there with Will." A tiered worried smile on his face.
"You can come in Jay!" Hayley shouted to him.
"So, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm good, Honest" she replied weakly.
Will left the room to see his other patients leaving the two to talk. An hour later Hayley was returning to her Bay after being for a CT scan.
"Ok you look fine; you do have a concussion and I'd like you to stay the night. I obviously know you won't stay but I also know you won't be alone, so I'm happy for you to go home. Jay, try not to worry to much ok, you will go grey." They laughed. "Get changed and I'll sort the paperwork out, ok?"
Hayley nodded relieved she could go home a hot bath and her bed was calling too her. It was midafternoon when they left Med.
"So where are we going your place or mine? We need food too; do you want Pizza or Chinese."
"I just want a bath and my bed!"
"Hayley, Vanessa won't be home for a while, I can't leave you alone, I don't want to leave you alone."
"I'll leave the door unlocked, and you can order a pizza while I try and lose the headache. I promise I won't shimmy down the drainpipe."
"OK, I trust you, I need to go back to my place for something. Is that OK?"
"Yeah, That's fine."
After a diversion to Jay's they arrived at Hayley's and she went up to run a bath. Her head was all over the place. Was Jay just being nice to her or did he feel something for her. Vanessa kept on but how can she be sure, dunking her head under the water and coming back up she decides to wait until things are back to normal, then she will talk to Jay. That night her and Jay ate pizza and he slept on her couch, waking her every hour to see if she was OK. By two am Hayley had pulled him into her bed. She was cold and wanted a snuggle, for the second morning in a row they wake entangled up in each other. They were up and ready for work by eight am and Vanessa had an even bigger smile on her face this morning. Soon she would put an end to this soon.
