Katherine returned to the compound and hoped not to run into a Mikaelson or any of their underlings, but she didn't seem to be that lucky. As soon as she entered the door, Jean and Jaden greeted her by the entrance, looking at her with stern expressions and crossed arms.

"And where were you?" Jean spoke up, raising a brow as he looked down at her.

"At the toilet…" she lied, but she could tell neither of them believed it so she went straight to the point. "Please don't tell Klaus I went outside…" she pleaded.

Jean shook his head. "It's our orders, we have to."

"You failed your guard duty, aren't you the ones that'll get in trouble?"

"Get in trouble for what?" Klaus asked as he joined them by the entrance, having just wandered out from the living room on his way outside.

"Klaus…" Katherine uttered, her voice appearing tenser than she intended. When her eyes met his, she couldn't help the nervousness that arose inside her as she forced a smile. "Excuse me," she muttered, pushing past them all as she hurried to her room.

Katherine had always considered herself a good actor, but right then, she wasn't very convincing. She knew Klaus would follow her, after that look she gave him... She couldn't help it. All the memories and secrets made her paranoid.

She tried to remain conscious, but the memories kept forcing their way in, seemingly not finished yet. How many memories did he even remove? She asked herself before reluctantly drifting into the past and into a mesmerized sleep.

Klaus kissed her stomach as he looked up at her twisting in pleasure beneath him. He enjoyed the sounds she made when he touched her.

"Klaus," she moaned, short of breath.

"My sweet Katerina."

"Klaus," she moaned again. She closed her eyes while letting her fingers trace over his back. He was her one great love. She was sure of it. Her old lover in Bulgaria was nothing compared to the man between her legs. At that moment, no other man than Klaus was on her mind. She belonged to him. He made her his. "Kiss me," she begged.

He smirked, "Are you demanding things from you lord, little Katerina?"

Katerina smiled seductively. "You like it," she whispered in his ear. She put a hand on each of his cheeks and pulled his face towards hers. "Kiss me," she whispered, letting her lips lightly brush against his.

She knew him. He couldn't resist her, nor control her. That was what he loved about her the most. She was utterly special.

He brushed his tongue against her lower lip before rolling it slowly into her mouth, devouring her taste with a passionate kiss that could have lasted an eternity. "I love you," he whispered in her ear as they broke free to catch a breath, before rolling over to his side.

Katerina smiled to herself and couldn't help but giggle with excitement. He was hers. She felt like the luckiest woman alive. She rested her head on his bare chest, letting her curls flow everywhere. "And I love you."

Klaus inhaled sharply and quickly removed his hand from her forehead, his eyes shutting open as the memory ended. Did he just-? No, it couldn't be. He had made her forget. It was all in the past, as planned.

He had only come to her room intent on finding out what was the matter with his doppelganger, but had seen that she was asleep. He had planned to leave then, but when he heard her mumble his name, his curiosity couldn't help itself as he entered her dreams, only to find forgotten memories he thought he had left in the past.

"Katerina?" he murmured, caressing her cheek gently. He tried to wake her up, but she was deeply asleep. He instead placed his hands on her temples and entered her memories once more.

"After months of courting me, you finally proposed. What took you so long?" Katerina asked while raising her head to meet her lover's eyes. "Were you not sure if I was good enough for you?"

"Katerina, I knew from the moment I saw you that you were the right one. Don't trouble yourself with these negative thoughts," he murmured, reassuring his wife to be. The reason it had taken him so long to wed her was that he'd had a difficult time deciding if it was the right choice. He always knew deep down that it wasn't, he had to kill her eventually, and by every full moon that passed, he started questioning himself why he hadn't yet. Maybe he had let love get in the way.

He had only started charming her, feeding her all sorts of compliments, and taking her on romantic dates, because he was one to play with his victims before stabbing them in the back. He had not expected her to touch his heart like this. It frightened him.

Klaus's eyes widened at what he saw. "Katerina," he whispered, tapping her cheek gently. "Wake up."

Katherine stirred in her sleep and groaned softly before slowly opening her eyes, taking some time before becoming aware of her surroundings and who was at her bedside. The second she spotted Klaus sitting beside her, she crawled as far away from him as the bed would allow.

"Klaus," she whimpered.

Klaus furrowed his brows at her, confused as to why she was still scared of him after all that had happened. "We need to talk," he said and put his hand on hers to assure her that she had no reason to be tense, but she pulled it away.

"I don't want to talk to you." She crossed her arms. "Leave. This is my room."

"I'm not leaving until we talk about what I just saw."

"You know?" she asked, mostly to herself. Her worry was soon replaced with anger. "Then explain. Explain why these 'memories' have been haunting me this entire day."

"I believe you know the reason already, Katerina. If not, you will soon remember."

Her mouth closed shut as she thought about it, and it was obvious. Of course she knew why he had compelled her to forget. If she had known, they would've both had a weakness. "I guess," she mumbled. "But what I don't get is why we..."

"Married?" He finished her sentence. "It was a different time. It means nothing."

"So I'm just supposed to ignore the fact that we are basically husband and wife?" she seethed.

Klaus crossed his brows. Even though he had known for centuries, it still felt strange hearing those words out loud. They had been enemies for so long, he had never thought twice about the fact that they were still technically married.

Eventually, a defeated sigh escaped his lips.

"I'm a fool, Katerina…" he started, his lips curving into a smile. Katherine looked at him confused, but he only continued. "I'm a fool," he sighed again. He had always known that Katherine Pierce would play with men, get under their skin, wrap them around her fingers and use them as a means to an end. Even Katerina Petrova had been quite mischievous and spoiled as she fell for both him and Elijah. But Klaus had never expected himself to be one of the fools. He had stumbled back then, fallen for her and gotten them both into their current mess. And he had done it again, 500 years later. He was no better than any other man. Even he couldn't resist the infamous doppelganger.

He almost laughed at the thought of it. He had always considered himself untouchable, only letting others get close to him without getting close to others himself, yet now he realized his weakness. He had fallen under her spell as well, the fact that he cared more about her current wellbeing than even the state of his new kingdom proved it. He had gone mad, but he accepted it. The fact that he had craved her even after the night of their kiss proved it was not simply a spur-of-the-moment thing. He felt something for her, but he had needed some time to figure out what, exactly. But he knew now; it was history repeating itself all over.

"I enjoyed your companionship, and I still do, more than I'd like to admit. You're like the perfect partner in crime, and your personality also aligns with mine, as does your lonely heart. You can't blame me for my past actions, Katerina, as if you would not have done the same if you were in my position," he simpered, inching closer to her. "You're simply irresistible," he whispered in her ear, making her shiver. She couldn't find it in herself to be mad at him, not at something that happened so long ago. If it had not mattered to him during the centuries, it would not matter to her either. Because marriage is not a crime worse than the slaughter of someone's family, so she would let bygones be bygones. One cannot blame an enemy for keeping secrets, after all.

She smiled and turned her head to face him, looking down at his red lips as they moved closer to hers. They met and it was like fireworks inside her stomach all over again, she thought she could never grow tired of him. Klaus awoke a desire in her that she had only ever felt with him, and that no one else could satisfy.

She pulled away to take off her top before swiftly laying down on her back, her eyes flaming with hot desire as they met his again. He smirked down at her as she helped remove his shirt before wrapping her hands around his neck, bringing him down to her. This would be his reconciliation, she thought. For all the trouble he'd caused her.

Klaus left her room shortly after they got dressed to continue what he had sidetracked on, while she took a shower to get rid of her sweat and his scent. She glanced in the mirror after stepping out of the shower and couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips. Klaus had been rough with her despite her being human, but not quite enough to leave any bruises. The only visible marks were the red, finger-shaped spots on her neck. She was beginning to think he had a thing for choking.

She got dressed and did her makeup to kill time before she began to get hungry. She started heading downstairs, but before she got there, she ran into someone outside her room.

"Dinner is ready, my lady," Kol teased, grabbing her hand to give it a kiss while sending her a playful grin. She rolled her eyes at him, but her lips still curved into a smile. She couldn't help grow fond of the youngest Original brother. He was the most fun of them all anyway, just like her. "Shall I escort you to the dining room?" he asked in fake courtesy and held out his hand for her to take.

She couldn't help but laugh. "It would be an honor, Mr. Mikaelson." She took his hand, playing along as they walked towards the dining hall. When Katherine walked through the entrance, she saw that the rest of the Original siblings had already taken their seats.

"About bloody time Kol, I asked you to call her down ten minutes ago," his sister barked, clearly annoyed. Kol just shrugged nonchalantly and took a seat on the empty side of the table, soon followed by Katherine, who sat down next to him.

"Dear brothers, sister. What are we having this meal?" Kol did not bother waiting for a response and lifted one of the silver lids to see what was underneath. He was clearly pleased with the choice of food because he sat back down with a smile. A young woman walked over to them and put some liquor on the table.

Elijah met Katherine's eyes for about a second before he looked away. She still couldn't believe he had kept the marriage a secret from her for all those years. Klaus had a reason, but him? It wouldn't be the first time Elijah had lied to her, and she was starting to doubt if he was really the trustworthy man he claimed to be. She couldn't help but think the reason she had preferred him over Klaus all this time was because of the compulsion, causing most of her previous emotions and memories to be erased. And she also couldn't help but think that Elijah had used that to his advantage because he was in love with her.

"What exactly are we waiting for again? My stomach is growling," Katherine groaned. "Pass me the wine."

"Say 'please', darling," Kol teased, reaching for the wine to pass it down to her.

"Shall we start our meal, perhaps?" Elijah suggested, which made Katherine's stomach very happy. She grabbed the food on the plate, with ladylike manners, of course.

They started eating in peace. It was silent around the table, except that one could hear Katherine and Kol's tittering and whispering. "You have a little something there," Kol said, removing some sauce from Katherine's cheek with his thumb. She formed a 'thank you' with her lips. Everyone in the room watched them like hawks, one particular person appearing to dislike their flirting the most.

"Stop with that, both of you," Klaus scolded. Katherine rolled her eyes while Kol smirked at his brother.

"Jealous, brother? Katherine did tell me the two of you are married. How adorable. You two are literally an old married couple, I've always had a sneaking suspicion." It was clear that Kol's intentions were to irritate Klaus, and it worked since he heard a low growl from him. "Actually, Nik's been married more than once, before he was made a vampire. Isn't that correct, Elijah?"

Katherine looked like a question mark, Elijah sent him a deadly stare, and Klaus merely scowled at him. He gave him an 'I will dagger you' look. Elijah sighed aloud, clearly done with Kol. Katherine noticed that he and Klaus were feeling rather uncomfortable about the subject, so naturally, she wanted to know why.

"Or almost married, that is. However, when father found out about our mother's affair, the wedding was called off immediately."

Katherine closed her gaping mouth. She raised her eyebrows, wanting to know more. "So who was the lucky girl?" she asked while taking a bite out of the steak on her platter.

Kol just grinned at everyone, evidently done talking. Elijah put his fork down and wiped his mouth with a napkin. "Tatia and Niklaus were to be married when we were younger. However, Tatia and I fell in love as well."

Katherine almost choked on her food. "Excuse me, what?" Did she hear correctly? Another doppelganger falling for two brothers? Unbelievable. It seemed like that was the doppelganger's fate. Always finding their way into a love triangle. She recalled even Amara, the original doppelganger, had been caught up between Qetsiyah and Silas.

"It was back when we were human, ancient history." Klaus desperately tried to dismiss the topic, not wanting to talk any more about the subject.

Rebekah covered her face in her palms. "Kol, we swore to keep that a secret. Why did you tell her?"

"Wrong, sister. I didn't tell her anything, Elijah did."

Katherine was glad Kol made them tell her the truth. Was there anything else they were keeping from her? She couldn't help but think if that was the only reason Klaus had married her, the only reason why Elijah had fallen in love with her. Was she nothing more than a replacement for Tatia?

She popped the lid of a champagne bottle and poured herself a glass. There was a very awkward silence around the table for the rest of dinnertime.
