Katherine walked the streets of The French Quarter. She had just grabbed lunch at Rousseau's bar and was heading to a clothing store close by. Klaus had given her his credit card and sent her off to get some new clothes, only allowing her outside because there hadn't been any trouble lately. She was grateful, but still not too happy about being accompanied by Jean and Jaden.

"Walk a little further behind will you?" she asked, annoyed at the two that seemed so close by her side that they almost stepped on her heels.

"We're just keeping you safe," Jaden groaned.

"Yeah it's not like we want to be here," Jean responded. "But since this place belongs to Klaus now, he's in charge. If he wants you safe we have to oblige."

"Yeah but you can keep me safe a little further away can you not?" she rolled her eyes and was about to pull open the door to the store before she was abruptly interrupted by a man approaching the three of them. A second later, more men had joined them until they were circled by what seemed to be five vampires with ill intent flaming in their eyes.

"Who are you?" Jean asked as he sped in front of Katherine and glared at the man, getting into a defensive position in case the man suddenly decided to attack. Jaden covered their backs and carefully kept a watch on the other men surrounding them.

"Katherine Pierce?" the man asked, ignoring Jean and instead directing his question at Katherine.

"I might be," she narrowed her eyes. "Depends on who you are..."

"We believe you ran into another one of us earlier this week. We take your brutal assault on our messenger-boy that you refused the offer. Shame on you."

"Maybe send someone stronger next time. You have a better chance spooking me into accepting," she mocked.

The man smiled viciously, evident fury hidden behind his eyes. "The next best option is killing you then," he said simply before signaling his men to attack. He stood back and watched as they started attacking. Jaden and Jean tried their best to defend her, but they were fighting two each and it wasn't working well.

"Help!" Katherine shouted, feeling frustrated that she was unable to help or fight back. If she had still been a vampire, all five of them would've been dead on the ground by now.

"No one will help you, Katherine. Everyone would turn the other cheek if they could earn a little something for it," the man that stood back spoke.

"Like what?" she asked frantically.

"A dose of your delicious doppelganger blood," he grinned and inserted his fangs into her neck now that she was left all defenseless.

"You beasts!" she hissed and tried to push him away. She watched Jean fall to the ground; his neck had been snapped. Jaden seemed to still be conscious, but several of his limbs had been crushed and he was left immobile on the ground. She struggled against the man for a few more seconds before an Original vampire appeared in the blink of the eye and cleaned up the place, ripping out the heart of each and every vampire there that wasn't affiliated with Klaus. As the man sucking her dry dropped dead, she soon fell to the ground with him due to the lack of blood.

"Katerina!" Elijah hurried to her side, not caring that he was now covered in blood. "Drink," he urged and held his bitten wrist over her mouth.

She looked up at him with gratitude before grabbing it and drinking until the color returned to her face. Elijah then picked her up bridal style and started carrying her to their home. She leaned her head against his chest, slowly regaining her strength.

"What about Jean and Jaden? I saw them, they aren't dead yet," she mumbled, fiddling with the sleeve of his suit.

"I'll send someone for them later, I'm getting you home first," he said, sturdy, and sped up his pace until they reached the compound.

As soon as Klaus saw Katherine's condition he sped over to them. "What happened?" he asked Elijah, before looking down at Katherine and gently stroking her hair.

"I'm fine," Katherine assured.

"Some vampires attacked her, but I took care of it," Elijah explained. He let Katherine out of his arms and helped her stand steady without stumbling. "You have too many enemies, it's not safe for her out there."

"It's my fault," Katherine spoke out, making them both look at her with questioning looks. "A couple days ago… I snuck out and ran into a guy who made me an offer, he worked for some people that are after you," she told Klaus. "But he was only a human so I declined and took care of him. Things came up later and I forgot to tell you."

"What did he offer you?" Klaus asked. His voice had grown colder.

"That I work as a spy for them, to take you down from the inside. They thought I'd accept because they know I'm your blood supply, and thought I'm being held here against my will because of your relations with Petrova doppelgangers."

"They know too much," he growled, already starting to calculate a plan. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? This is vital information. I would've never let you outside if people know you're the doppelganger."

"Don't be angry with her Niklaus. You've had her locked up here for weeks, don't blame her for wanting to breathe some fresh air, no matter how reckless. Besides, she isn't the only one who withheld information," Elijah reminded, his eyes having a conversation on their own with Klaus's. Katherine internally rolled her eyes. Elijah wasn't one to talk either.

"You're right," Klaus finally yielded before turning to Katherine again. "I should have never sent you outside. People will always be conspiring against me no matter if things are peaceful, and as long as you're staying here, you'll be a target as well. Sorry, but I'm gonna have to ask you to stay inside until we sort this out."

"You're putting me on house arrest?" Katherine sulked. "What happened to the permission you just gave me to go outside?"

"Sorry love, it's for your own good."

Katherine quickly stole a glance at Elijah, who seemed to avert his gaze away from the two of them whenever they talked. She quickly finished their conversation.

"Fine then, I'm going to my room. Don't forget to send someone to get Jaden and Jean."

She didn't stay in her room for long. She got royally pissed after Klaus had come by her room later and informed her that species of New Orleans had now deemed her his 'queen' due to their marriage - somehow, word had spread. Now she was on a lot of people's hit-list, no matter if they knew she was the doppelganger or not. And because of this, she was not allowed to leave the compound and go outside of his security. She knew it was the best for her safety, but she couldn't stand obeying his stupid rules any longer. He had caused the current problem, not her. By keeping secrets from her and by not allowing her to transition back to a vampire. It was because of him that her life was even in danger. The more days went past without making a bloodstone, the longer she had to stay human and the more she was put at risk. If he really cared, he would've let her turn back by now.

That was why she had easily ditched those pathetic vampires by simply telling them she needed to go to the restroom, then sneaking back outside to where she had been earlier that day. They didn't even follow her to the door as they usually did, because they were still exhausted from their fight earlier and glad to take a break. The enemy was taken care of, for now at least, and there was no way they would try again the same day. She could go shopping for some hours without problem, she still had Klaus's card after all. One could consider it a late teenage rebellion.

She had even debated finding a vampire to turn her so she could protect herself, but turning again could ruin everything between them, and Katherine hated that she even cared about that at all. She didn't want to be a stupid human anymore, vulnerable to random attacks by enemies that weren't even her own, but she was too scared to find out what Klaus would do if she went against his wishes. He had already used her blood to turn two whole werewolf packs, but apparently, that wasn't enough for him.

Katherine suddenly stopped abruptly when she spotted the way too familiar man that blocked her path. "Mikael. You showed yourself already? Quite bold, aren't you? How the hell are you even alive, I saw you burn up."

"Good evening to you too Katherine. It's been a while."

"Leave me alone. Your business is with Klaus, not me."

Mikael sniggered as he pierced her with his cold, hateful stare. "I doubt that. I heard you're Klaus's wife now."

"I might be, but I don't like to be called that."

He shook his head in disgust. "Even you take his side, after everything he has done to you. You even wanted him dead, and now you're his bitch? Pathetic," he spat.

She took a step towards him and growled. "What do you want?"

"You refused the offer to join our side. First that errand boy, then you got my son to kill five of my men for you. If you're not against Niklaus, you're with him. Which means, you're an enemy. And you're bait," he sneered and sped over to her. He grabbed her arm tightly and dragged her away before anyone in the area could even hear her screams.

Klaus sipped on a glass of bourbon while growing angrier by the minute. Katerina had snuck out, and been missing for almost two hours. That was when he had noticed her gone, at least. The time was closing in at 11 pm, and he knew The Quarter was even more dangerous at night. It worried him.

"Where the hell is she," he mumbled to himself while pouring down the rest of his drink. He already had people out searching for her, but he still hoped she would suddenly walk through the front door at any moment. He should've known she wouldn't listen to him if he forbade her to do something. He took a mental note to keep her close to him at all times when she got back. Apparently he could only trust himself to protect her since her guards had failed so many times.

Klaus eventually pulled up his phone and dialed a number. "Sive, I need you to do a locator spell on Katerina Petrova."

"The doppelganger again? What has she done now?" his witch ally asked.

"Nothing, she's missing."

"Did you not have anyone looking after her?"

"Oh I had, and believe me, they're long dead. I do not want weaklings in my army. If they can't look after a defenseless human girl, then what good are they for?" Klaus asked nonchalantly, earning an agreeing grunt from the other side. "Besides, I traced the source of the rumors about our marriage back to one of them. They overheard everything when staying by Katerina's side, and couldn't keep their lousy mouths shut."

"I see. I'm on my way. In the meantime, find something that belongs to her."

Beep, beep, beep.

Klaus removed the phone from his ear and looked down at it. An unknown number was calling him. "I need to hang up, be here soon," he told Sive before answering the unknown caller. "Who are you?" he asked right away. Only a few knew his phone number, because he didn't like to receive random calls, like this.

"Someone who's about to tell you some very unpractical news," the voice answered.

Klaus frowned, immediately recognizing the voice. "Mikael. How did you get this number?"

"How I got it is not important. What matters is that I have a 5'7 brunette here, and unless you want her to die, you better get here quick."

Klaus fumed at Mikael's words. He'd had Katerina this entire time. Mikael had his girl. He growled. "You'll regret this."

Mikael didn't sound bothered at all by his threat. "I believe you will be the one regretting if you don't get your bastard self down to the docks now."

Klaus thought quickly. If he just followed Mikael's word, things surely wouldn't go well, but if he didn't, Katerina would get hurt. He couldn't let either happen.

"I didn't think of you as the type to try and take me down slowly. You always tended to more direct methods in the past, so why change it up now? Why try to defeat me using others when you could just confront me like a real man?" he asked. He was trying to stall time so he could conjure a plan, but he was also genuinely curious about his answer.

"I couldn't get close to you on my own, so I had to adapt to other methods. I made a web of people working for me already, and we all have one shared goal; Bringing you down. I didn't even have to compel them to cooperate, they all hate you Niklaus."

Klaus would have frowned but his face couldn't get more stern. He already knew the city disliked him, but it still wasn't pleasant to hear it. All he needed was a little time, just enough to get the white oak stake from his hiding spot and gather some allies with him. What he needed to know now was how many opponents he was facing.

"And mother went on a vacation to Brazil after resurrecting you, did she?" he asked, trying to get Mikael to spill whatever information about her and Finn that he had.

Mikael sniggered. "Your mother and I have never seen eye to eye, except on one thing. You and your siblings are all abominations on this earth, and if it means I can take you down I'll take the others with you as well."

"So she is with you." Klaus knew his mother had always wanted to unite their family. But only in death. If Mikael had teamed up with her, then their end goal would surely result in all their deaths.

"I wouldn't spend too much time pondering about it if I were you, Niklaus. The girl I have here is looking more delicious by the second. The docks, now," he growled again.

"Don't you ever try to command me again!" Klaus yelled before crushing his phone in his hands and throwing it against the wall, not wasting a second more on his anger before getting to work.

Mikael ended the call and closed his phone with a frustrated and furious look on his face. "The bastard refuses to come. It seems that even with your life at stake, he's too much of a coward to face me."

Katherine frowned. She knew she shouldn't expect Klaus to be her hero, but did he really not care about her at all? Not even for his hybrids?

She tried to loosen the knots that tied her hands behind her back, but they, together with the rest of the ropes binding her body to the chair, wouldn't budge. A quick look around told her that they were in the middle of an abandoned warehouse by the docks.

"Mikael, please let me go. This feud is between you and Klaus, not me," she pleaded, letting her survival instincts kick in.

"You're wrong. The second you decided to team up with that coward, you chose your side. And you were right where I wanted you. Human and all alone with no protection. I would've thought Niklaus protected his property better than so," he scoffed.

Katherine growled, getting angrier by the minute. She was no one's damn property. "I ran away," she muttered.

"Of course you did. No one in their right mind would willingly be with that bastard."

"Yeah well as you can see, he doesn't care about me. He won't come for me, so I'm useless to you. Just leave me and go after him yourself."

"Shut up," Mikael yelled. "Are you really that stupid? You're hostage, and if Niklaus refuses to come, that's only bad news for you."

"Mikael!" a female voice yelled, making Katherine's head jerk to the side. There was a woman with long, blonde hair and familiar features. She vaguely recognized her to be Esther. Right behind her was one of Klaus's other siblings, Finn, someone Katherine had believed to be long dead. But after Kol, she wasn't surprised. "Where is my son?" Esther asked Mikael as she joined his side.

"He hung up on me," Mikael growled.

"Fine, I'll locate him myself," Esther said, her voice calm, making it difficult to tell if she was angered or something else. "Kill the girl."

Mikael grinned terrifyingly, and Katherine looked up at him with wide eyes. "No... No, don't!-" he sped over to her and inserted his fangs into her neck.

She whimpered in pain and her entire body fell limper by the second. Her fingers started a prickling sensation and her consciousness threatened to shut down on her. "I thought you didn't feed on humans?" she quivered.

"I can do an exception," he growled against her neck, continuing to drink at a rapid pace.

Katherine's eyes shot open when she heard Finn's scream, and she smiled weakly when she saw it was Kol who had driven a dagger in his heart. Beside him was the rest of the Mikaelson siblings together with an unknown man. Klaus had come for her after all.

Esther wasted no time conjuring up a spell as she backed away from her children, startled by their sudden entrance. Mikael also ripped loose from Katherine's neck when he heard the commotion and turned to face his family with an evil smirk. The blood dripping from his lips and Katherine's slumped-over body sparked a rage in Klaus as he screamed over to them.

"Stay away from her!" he roared, making his voice echo in the warehouse. He gripped the white oak stake in his hand tighter. "Kol, Rebekah, kill mother. Sive, counter her spells. Whatever you must do, don't let her assist Mikael!" he yelled as he sped over to said man with Elijah.

"Oh Niklaus, you're impulsive. Trying to catch me off guard by making me think you wouldn't come? Bad move," Mikael growled, and with one quick move, he snapped Katherine's neck, making the Mikaelson brothers gasp in shock.

"No!" Klaus bellowed and sped over to Katherine while Elijah went straight for Mikael's throat.

"Niklaus! The stake!" Elijah yelled over to him, and Klaus threw the stake to his awaiting hand. "Take her away from here, I'll take care of father!"

Without blinking, Klaus took Katherine's body in his arms and hurried out of there at light speed.

"No!" Mikael bellowed. "He's the one I want! Not you. My pathetic son, who does nothing else than follow Niklaus like a blind dog," he spat at him and attempted to follow Klaus, but Elijah blocked his path.

"I'll kill you for what you did," Elijah muttered in an unrecognizably icy voice, making Mikael finally pay him attention.

"You can do nothing against me-" Mikael started, but Elijah flew at him and forced him to the floor.

He ignored the screaming of his siblings fighting their mother behind him and forced Papa Tunde's blade into Mikael's chest against his struggles. Mikael stared at him with furious wide eyes and dug his fingers into his chest to claw at the increasingly sinking blade.

"That… won't kill me," he muttered as the blade disappeared into him.

"No," Elijah snarled. "But this will," he pulled out the white oak stake and drove it right down after Papa Tunde's blade, speeding away from his body as it went up in flames.

Mikael's screams were loud and evident in the now empty warehouse. Kol and Rebekah had managed to snap Esther's neck after Sive dissolved her defensive spells that held them back. Both of their parents were finally dead, yet again, but Elijah had no time to triumph as he hurried after his brother, who had left the warehouse merely moments before.
