Chapter 3
As he carried me though the door the warmth and smells on the house sunk in, the warm buttery light through the windows and the smell of baking bread relaxed me. This was a home. Not just a house, but a home filled with love and warmth. I saw Cassian sitting at a table eating a piece of fluffy bread with jam and cream spread on it. He gave me a goofy smile and waved over at me before returning to whatever it was, he was doing before.
Azriel carried me up he stairs and down the hall to a bed chamber where he sat me on the bed. He pulled out his notepad and started scribbling. I waited patiently for him to finish and looked around the room. It was warm and cozy with a balcony that overlooked the back garden and had a view of the river lazing past. I jumped a little when Azriel tapped on my shoulder, and he handed me the notepad.
'This is the townhouse, one of the homes Rhys and Feyre share with us. They live at the river house a couple blocks away with Nyx and Elaine. Cassian and Nesta live in the house of wind in the mountains. And Moore and I share this place. You are free to come and go as you please, and if you need help just ring the bell.' I liked up to see him pointing to a small metal bell on a table at the foot of the bed. Next to it was a tray of food including the bread a small jar of jam and anther of cream.
"Thank you." I said and gave him a small smile, he pointed over his shoulder with his thumb and said something. I assume he was telling me he was leaving so I gave a little wave and he turned around and left. I took a deep breath and flopped back onto the bed savoring the warmth of the sunshining through the window. I could see the river and birds flying from tree to tree, people walking on the street on the other side of the river laughing and talking. And I couldn't hear any of it.
I honestly couldn't even remember my name or any details of my life before. I know I am not from here and some sort of demon sent me here pretending he was giving me what I thought I wanted. But I was tricked, thrust into this world with a new life and one less sense. My parents, whoever they really are probably miss me. Maybe I didn't have any parents maybe I was an orphan and that's why I wished myself into a new life.
I have parents in this world though I can remember them, my dad was a warrior with wings like mine. My mother was a delicate creature with pointed ears. I touched my ears remembering the ointment I was to apply to my sensitive skin, sitting up I pulled the jar out of the pocket in my cloak and started applying the ointment generously to my skin finishing with my ears.
I ate my meal slowly savoring each bite and looking through a stack of books trying to pick one to read. I went about my day testing out my legs walking carefully through my room always making sure I was able to catch myself on something if my knees buckled. I read the day away and I must have fallen asleep sometime n the afternoon because when I woke up it was dark outside.
I noticed a new tray of food left at the foot of my bed with a note that had Azriels handwriting on it. 'didn't want to wake you.' I took in the tray and there was a sandwich with a glass of water, I ate and then walked to the bathroom to relieve myself. Coming back into the bed chamber and looked out at the moon lighting up the back garden. Pulling my cloak on I headed out into the hall and looked both ways to m left there were a couple more door im assuming were bedrooms or offices. To the right I saw the stairs one flight going up and one leading down. I gingerly stepped into the hallway hoping I wouldn't make the floor squeak as I tiptoed to the stairs and took them down. I walked to the back patio door and slipped my feet into some slippers that were by the door before stepping outside.
I took a deep breath as I took in the clear crisp air, looking up at the almost full moon I got a flash back of looking out of a bedroom window when I was little at the same moon. I walked further into the yard taking in the sights of the city surrounding me. Snow glittering under streetlights and smoke puffing out of chimneys. A cold breeze ruffled my hair and I turned back to the house to go inside when I saw a figure standing in the doorway. I shrieked and jumped out of my skin before Azriel stepped out and I recognized who he was.
He was holding his hands out in a gesture that said I mean no harm but maybe don't wake the neighborhood. I blew out a long breath and started toward the house a little pissed.
"You about gave me a heart attack." I said as I pushed past him into the dark room hoping my voice sounded as annoyed as I was. He put his hand on my shoulder and turned me around to face him so I could read his lips. He mouthed 'Im sorry' slowly and clearly and I gave a small smile.
"I know, im just not used to being around other people yet. This is all weird to me." He nodded and took his hand from my shoulder. If now felt abnormally cold as if all the warmth had been taken away with his hand.
"We should get back to bed." I murmured as I kicked off the now wet slippers and turned to the stairs. Azriel nodded and followed behind me, the hairs on the back of the neck standing up as he climbed behind me. I slowly took each step carefully making sure not to stumble on my weak legs. I turned the corner and headed toward my room stopping at my door.
I turned around and said goodnight as I slipped into my room and toppled onto my bed burying my face into my pillows. He really affects me; it feels like a silver thread tugging me toward him every time we are in the same room. Sighing I climbed under my covers and slowly fell into sleep.
