Chapter 6
Azriel closed the gate behind us as we stepped into the snowy street and took a right, he grabbed my hand and gently placed it on his arm. "so where are we going first?" I asked looking up to him.
'well since right now the only clothes we have that will fit you belong to the Archeron sisters we are going to get you your own wardrobe.'
"that really isn't necessary, I am not picky about clothes and I don't have any money anyway." I blushed at that last part, I really didn't have any money and right now I had no way to earn any or to pay for new clothes.
'that's okay we will make that bastard Rhys pay for it, he and Feyre have the money and I have a direct line of credit.' He had a wicked gleam in his eyes as shadows danced behind them. He noticed my expression and realized I was not amused.
'hey' he stopped walking and made me look up at him. 'you have nothing to worry about, you are safe and protected.' I could see the unspoken words in his eyes as he stared ack into mine. And loved. 'I have already told everyone we are going to get you some things, besides you will want something nice to wear to dinner tonight for your official introduction to the court." he pulled my arm and we started walking again toward the bustling city center.
"and we have to do that tonight right? We cant put if off a little longer?" I shuddered at the thought of facing Morrigan at a dinner table, and how I haven't been around a lot of people at once since I came here. it will be difficult trying to figure out what everyone was saying. I couldn't ask Azriel to translate all night.
'you don't even have to ask.' I startled a little at the sudden intrusion ad glared up at him. 'its not my fault you think right down the bond. We will have to sit you down with Rhys or Feyre for a lesson in mental shields 101.' I rolled my eyes a the street let out into large square lined with vendors and shops.
I spun in a slow circle taking in all the sights and smells surrounding me, I could almost remember the sound of a busy street. I inhaled deeply and the scent of candied nuts filled my nostrils, my mouth watered and I turned to see the vendor waving and yelling something. Probably trying to get people to his stall. I felt a hand rest on my waist and I looked up at Azriel and gave him a small smile, he returned it and gestured to another road leading to a street filled with shops selling clothes, shoes, hats and gowns. There were tailors and seamstresses, and fabric in every color and texture you could ever want.
'we can go wherever you wish, and you can have whatever you wish.' My face flushed a little but I headed towards the nearest shop and walked in. the smell of lilac and lavender kissed my cheeks on a gentle rush of warm air, I felt the door pause at the top before it opened all the way and I glanced up, a bell hung in the doorway im assuming for the shop owner to greet her customers.
I looked around the small boutique through the doorway when I felt a hand press into my back and give a gentle push. 'its okay go on in.' I stepped through the doorway and saw a sweet little shop filled with tunics embroidered with silver thread, leggings and pants with patterns down the side in the same glittery silver thread, there were also warm garments suc as hats gloves and scarves all adorned with the beautiful silvery thread.
Looking around there is a dressing room on the far right wall and a check out counter in the back left where there was a bright faced plump fae with white hair, golden eyes and sun kissed bronze skin. She smiled as I made eye contact and ushered over to us mouth moving to quickly for me to catch anything she was trying to say to me. I smiled nervously and looked from the women to Azriel and back to the women. She paused and looked a little confused as I opened my mouth but I couldn't make words come out. This was my first time in public, I had no idea what my voice actually sounded like and I was nervous to speak in case she couldn't understand me or if my words would sound funny. All of a sudden, I was self-conscious and speechless and my breath caught in my throat.
Then I felt that warm hand on my waist again and I looked down at it, shadows caressed my side where his hand rested and I felt a soothing tug at the bond. The women was looking at Azriel and nodding her head then she looked back at me and gave me an apologetic smile.
'I told her you cant hear and are shy, she said you are welcome to try anything on and she will be in the back if you need her just hit the bell on the counter.' I gave the women a small smile and a nod of thanks and she did the same and scurried off to do whatever it was she was busy doing before.
'thank you for that, I don't know what happened my throat just froze.' I gave his arm a small squeeze and turned to a rack of very intricately embroidered tunics. 'what is this silvery thread? Its beautiful.'
'you don't have to thank me for anything, I am more than happy to help in any way I can. I could feel your fear and anxiety through the bond.' I flushed a little at that, embarrassed at my stupidity. 'you aren't stupid its okay to be nervous, this is all new to you and I am proud of you I think you are doing very well. As for the thread I have no idea but I think this color suits you nicely.' He held out a tunic of the deepest blue with beautiful swirls of silver around the collar and weaving all the way down the sleeves which ended in a flared design that would flow past my fingertips. I tried it on and ended up leaving with five tunics and five pairs of leggings, each with a different design embroidered down the side of the legs. One pair even had silver vines and whirls outlining the bottom of my ass. That pair was purchased on request of Azriel.
We visited several shops similar to that one buying a couple hats and dresses for the summer, my face turned hot at the remark Azriel made as I asked to go into a shop selling under garments. I went in and the shop keeper a young looking female with icy blue eyes and auburn hair greeted me, I said a quiet hello still unsure of my voice and nervous to be alone and have to try and buy things.
I ended up buying a couple plain black sets foe every day wear. And a couple more risqué sets of ivory and navy blue lace for more intimate situations. I am not a prude, but knowing Azriel was outside while I was buying them made me want to rush.
I left the shop carrying a plain red bag and I had to swat Azriels hand away when he tried to peek in. we continued on down the road in a comfortable silence Azriel carrying my bags. I picked up a new pair of boots and stockings. Thinking we were finished and headed back home a display window caught my eye, in the window was a stunning floor length gown of the palest blue and covered from top to bottom in sparkling stones. The sleaves were off the shoulder and the neckline was plunging, a slit moved up the right side to the thigh. I was mesmerized by how the light in the display made all of the stones sparkle.
'That would look stunning on you.' Azriel stood behind me and I could feel his body heat radiating off of him.
'I wouldn't have anywhere to wear something that beautiful.' I sighed and turned away from the gown.
'Wear it tonight to dinner, I bet Mor will be wearing something more revealing than that.' At the mention of Morrigan my blood ran just a little warmer at the slight tang of jealousy.
'is it really going to be that kind of dinner? I mean you sad it's a family dinner.'
'it is an inner circle dinner at the house of wind, you will meet Feyres sisters and Amren it is your official formal introduction to the inner circle. Who I also just so happen to consider my family, so It is kind of family dinner slash job interview.'
'I don't know, im all bones right no anyway I probably couldn't even fill it out properly.
'stop. You are beautiful and that dress will look beautiful on you.' And with that we went into the boutique.
