Many months later…
Vaggie and Charlie were having a nice, calm walk through the park, having a conversation when they heard something in the nearby woods. It sounded like an pig-demon squealing in distress. It continued for a few more seconds then it abruptly stopped.
"Did you hear that? What was that" Vaggie asked.
"Sounded like a pig crying out in distress" Charlie replied.
"That's weird. Full grown pigs aren't scared of anything. What could it have been squealing about" Vaggie asked.
"I don't know, let's go see" Charlie replied.
Vaggie nodded as they went into the forest to investigate and after walking for a couple of minutes, they saw a large barbed wire fence stretching for a mile, with a sign that said "Danger! Keep out!" on it.
"That's odd…I've never seen this fence before. What's in there" Charlie asked.
"That fence has barbed wire on it. What's in there that's so dangerous that demons need to keep out" Vaggie asked.
That's when they heard several low hisses and growls coming from beyond the fence.
"Is it to keep demons out, or to keep things in" Charlie asked.
They looked through the fence, out towards the darkened forest only to see two glowing red eyes open and stare back at them.
"Whoa, what is that" Vaggie asked.
"Whatever it is, it doesn't seem friendly" Charlie replied.
"Let's...try and find a safer way inside" said Vaggie.
"Good Idea, let's go" Charlie replied.
They wandered off to the left, the eyes following them as they left with several more eyes opening and starting as well. After another 10 minutes of walking they reach a closed gate with an intercom system.
"This place is a property? Who the heck owns this creepy place" Vaggie asked.
"I don't know. Let's find out" Charlie replied.
She walked up to the Intercom and pressed the button.
"Hello? Is anybody home" she asked with a nervous smile.
After a few seconds of silence a nightmarish creature resembling a Velociraptor came out from the forest. It grabbed the gate with its huge claws and slowly pulled it open, Charlie and Vaggie realizing whose property this was.
"Nightfright owns this place" Vaggie asked.
"Looks like it. Well…it opened the gate for us, must mean we're welcomed" Charlie replied.
"I sure hope so" Vaggie replied as they walked in.
The nightmare raptor quickly closed the gate behind them and scurried back into the darkness of the forest. After walking for a minute, they can hear faint hissing and growling coming from all around them.
"How many of his pets does Nightfright have in these woods" Vaggie asked.
"I don't know but from the sound of it, a lot" Charlie replied.
They see a big river flowing through the forest with a wooden bridge going across to the other side leading to a clearing.
"Wow, Nightfright has rented out quite the place, hasn't he" Charlie asked.
"Yep, big and creepy, to his liking" Vaggie replied.
Charlie just smiled and shrugged it off. That's when Vaggie noticed heavy waves in the river going in a straight line towards them as they crossed the bridge, as if something gigantic was under the water.
"Charlie there's something big in the river" said Vaggie.
They both stopped and looked closely and it looked gigantic and very long like an eel or a snake. It swam up to the shore several yards away from them and rose up, revealing itself to be a giant nightmarish cobra with a rattlesnake rattle on its tail. It loudly hissed as it slammed it's body back on to the ground.
"A giant Cobra...lovely" said Charlie, sarcastically.
It saw them and slowly slithered towards them, Vaggie getting her spear out as they braced themselves. It stopped, starred at them, then turned it's head to the side, curious. It then slithered right back into the river and swam back the way it came. Vaggie put her spear away as she and Charlie looked at each other.
"Well...what now" Vaggie asked.
"We've made it this far. No turning back now" Charlie replied.
Vaggie rolled her eye and they kept going.
They continue down the path they were going and after 5 minutes, they saw what appear to be two warehouses near the mountain side, crawling with Nightfright's "pets". The warehouses were in a large fenced off area with Ravagers patrolling alongside the nightmare raptors and other nightmarish creatures that looked like big Dilophosaurs. They looked up and saw 3 Magmabirds patrolling the skies and 2 perched on the mountain side.
"He's…he's assembled an army" said Vaggie.
"What is he up to" Charlie asked.
"I don't know, but it can't be-" Vaggie was cut off.
"Good" said a familiar voice.
They turned around and looked up, just in time for Nightfright to lower himself from the top of the tree behind them using his tentacles.
"Were you...following us from the gate" Charlie asked.
"No, I caught up to you just as the Fearfang went back in the water" Nightfright replied.
"Fearfang" Charlie asked.
"That giant cobra we saw" Vaggie replied.
"Yep. Quite the magnificent beast, isn't it" Nightfright asked.
"What the fuck is going on here Nightfright? What is all this" Vaggie asked.
"Oh nothing much really. Just running my own little base of operations, that's all" he replied.
"You've raised an army. Where did you even get this place from" Charlie asked.
"Oh…found it" he replied.
"You just…found it" Charlie asked.
"Yes. I found only the two warehouses right there. I got them fixed and had the barbed wire fence and gate put up. It certainly wasn't easy, but…it was well worth it" Nightfright replied.
"Where did you get the money to do all this" Vaggie asked him.
"Would either of you care to know what I do for a living here in hell, besides creating Nightmares" he asked them.
"Sure" Charlie nervously asked.
"I sell weapons on the black market" he replied.
"That…doesn't seem bad but…why the black market" Charlie asked.
"Because those weapons are infused with Negative Energy aren't they" Vaggie asked.
"Yes, that's correct. I've already made a fortune doing so, with the amount of money I have being in six digits" Nightfright replied.
Charlie was shocked.
"Isn't that…illegal to sell" Charlie asked.
"It's the black market Charlie. Everything there is illegal to sell" Nightfright replied.
"He's actually got a point there" said Vaggie.
"Hey, I don't make the rules Charlie, that's your dad's job. I just follow them" said Nightfright.
"Hmm...I guess you do have a point" said Charlie.
"What exactly are you trying to accomplish here Nightfright" Vaggie asked him.
"Simple, I'm trying to create living nightmares that are also highly effective living weapons. And so far, I've had promising results" Nightfright replied.
"I think you've already succeeded at that task with your Ravagers" Vaggie replied.
"Not entirely, while the Ravagers make excellent guard dogs and attack dogs, they are far from being highly effective living weapons" said Nightfright.
"OK, what qualifications do your living nightmares need to have in order to be highly effect" Charlie asked.
"That's easy. Dragons are the rarest but toughest of the Pride Rings wildlife, correct" Nightfright asked.
"Yeah, so" Vaggie asked.
"In order for my pets to be highly effective living weapons, they need to be powerful enough to kill dragons and anything else they face, EASILY" Nightfright replied.
Charlie and Vaggie were stunned.
"Now now, I have nothing against dragons or animals of any kind. In fact, I'm an animal lover and my wife and I can turn into dragons" he said.
"Wow, I…didn't realize you were married" said Charlie.
"That I am. My Wife and I were fiancés back when we were still alive. Now we're legally married" said Nightfright.
"How did you both die" Vaggie asked.
"Again, I don't wanna talk about it" said Nightfright.
"Why? It couldn't have been that bad, could it" Vaggie asked.
"It was...Scarlett, well…she was the only one that really loved and cared about me. Everyone else was just pretending to care or didn't care at all" said Nightfright.
"What? What about your parents" Charlie asked.
"They were just…horrible. I hope they're miserable and suffering right now wherever they are" Nightfright replied, angry.
Charlie and Vaggie quickly glanced at each other, realizing what that meant.
"You're parents were abusive, weren't they" Charlie asked.
"My Dad is an alcoholic and my Mom is a drug addict, I'm sure you can piece the rest together from there" said Nightfright.
"Wow...I'm really sorry" said Charlie.
"It's fine, don't be, it's not your fault" said Nightfright.
"We'll be going now, see you around Nightfright. Come on Vaggie" said Charlie.
She and Vaggie walked away, feeling sorry for him. Nightfright just let out a light sigh as he walked towards the warehouses using his tentacles.
