The next day Charlie and Vaggie went to meet up with Charlie's mother, Lilith, to discuss about yesterday's events.
"Hello there honey" Lilith asked.
"Hey mom, do you and dad know what Nightfright let loose yesterday" said Charlie.
"Well of course, we were out on the balcony watching it after all. It was quite a spectacle…he certainly knows how to put on a show" Lilith replied.
"When did you and dad first find out about him" Charlie asked.
"First week of last year, your father and I were quite surprised to hear the news of a new overlord with negative energy magic. He contacted him and told him to come over to talk. After that, the two of them became friends" Lilith replied.
"Why is Nightfright the way he is, he seems so satisfied seeing things destroyed" said Charlie.
"Oh darling, there are people like that all around hell that just want to watch everything around them burn. But Nightfright doesn't harm anyone without reason, he's said so himself. He always has a reason for hurting and killing people and it's never without a motive" said Lilith.
"One thing he said is that he's not crazy or evil, he's just very vengeful" Charlie asked.
"He probably referring to his human life" Lilith replied.
"What was his human life like? Only thing he said was that his parents were abusive" said Charlie.
"I can tell you, if you'd like" said Lilith.
"Please do" Charlie replied.
"Nightfright grew up in a small town…Menington, I believe it's called. It's a…bad town that has people that are just mean, rude and some even heartless. Surprisingly Nightfright didn't grow up to be like the rest of them" said Lilith.
"He started off as a good soul? What happened that caused him to go bad" Charlie asked.
"I'll get to that in a minute, Nightfright was special among everyone else, he had been born with the ability to shapeshift" Lilith replied.
"Wait, he had his shapeshifting ability when he was still a human" Vaggie asked.
"Yes and to an extreme level" Lilith replied.
"An extreme level, what does that mean" Charlie asked.
"It means that he can not only turn into anything he wants, no matter the size, not only change parts of his body into whatever he wants but he can mimic sounds and voices. Making him almost impossible to track down as he can literally become anyone or anything and be anywhere" said Lilith.
"Wow, I knew he was strong but not that strong" said Charlie.
"This was back when he was still a human darling, now he's 100 times more powerful than what he was before" Lilith replied.
"It certainly looks that way" said Vaggie.
"Anyways, Nightfright said that he discovered his ability to shapeshift at the age of 8 and began practicing with them in a forest that was outside of his home town. He said he practiced from the age of 8 to 13 and kept them a secret from everyone he knew" said Lilith.
"Understandable, when you're only a human with incredible abilities like that you have to keep them a secret" said Charlie.
"He said he met his wife, Scarlett, at the age of 15 and it was love at first sight for both of them. After school one day, he revealed his abilities to her and rather being freaked out she was intrigued and found them to be quite amazing" said Lilith.
"Guess they were made for each other" said Vaggie.
"Nightfright's parents however…we're abusive, his mother a drug addict and his father an alcoholic and after finding out about the relationship they forbid him from seeing her but he lashed out at them which caused his father to slap him" said Lilith.
"Wow, his parents sound awful" said Charlie.
"According to him, they most certainly were. He said after that, his punched his father across the room in retaliation" said Lilith.
"Wait, he punched his dad across the room? How strong is he" Vaggie asked.
"Strong enough to lift a car or small truck" Lilith replied.
Charlie and Vaggie were just speechless.
"Like I was saying, he said he punched his father across the room in retaliation and from that day forward his parents were scared of him and couldn't say a word or do anything about him otherwise they thought he'd hurt them for a change" said Lilith.
"Wow I...I honestly don't know how to react to that" said Charlie.
"Years went by him and Scarlett went to collage. He saw a lot of kids getting bullied and when Scarlett began to be bullied, he sought the bullies out after class and well…safe to say Scarlett stopped being bullied after that" said Lilith.
"What did he do to them" Charlie asked.
"He said when their leader tried to intimidate him he punched him across the hall. The other two looked confused and walked off with their friend, while everyone else stared at Nightfright" said Lilith.
"I mean, with strength like that who wouldn't stare at you" said Charlie.
"He told everyone that he was stronger than he looked and surprisingly, they all bought it and no one messed with him or Scarlett ever again" said Lilith.
"Well, who'd be stupid enough to try" Vaggie asked.
"Soon after graduating college, Nightfright and Scarlett got engaged but the truth about his abilities slipped. Which led to the mayor of that town to issue an warrant for his arrest" said Lilith.
"Arrest him? For what" Vaggie asked.
"Nightfright said the mayor screamed that freaks like him are not allowed in his town" Lilith replied.
"Wow, that town sounds awful" said Charlie.
"I believe it still is awful, even to this day. After his powers were discovered and revealed, everyone in his life turned their backs on him, his friends and his parents, everyone except for one person…" Lilith was cut off.
"Scarlett" said Charlie.
"Yes, he refused to go along with the police so they opened fire on him. Nothing happened as the bullets literally just bounced off him. Scarlett helped him and ran off with him, despite her parents warnings that they'd disown her if she did. They ran together until…Scarlett took a bullet for him and died in his arms" said Lilith.
"Wow…that must have heartbreaking for him" said Charlie.
"After her death, Nightfright snapped…he said he turned his hand into a long blade and jabbed it into the chest of the officer that killed her, to the shock and horror of everyone else there. He then moved quickly and...killed them all " said Lilith.
"Wow" Vaggie muttered.
"Nightfright said that his original intensions were to try and make the human world a better place, but after that day, he lost that interest and said that humanity isn't worth saving and that he'd much rather see the worst of humanity suffer for an eternity then save it" said Lilith.
"Wow…the moment the only person who actually loved and cared about him died in his arms, his heart turned dark" said Charlie.
"I mean, if people killed the only person who actually cared about you and loved you would you snap too" Lilith asked.
"Honestly mom…yeah, I think most would definitely snap after something like that" said Charlie.
"After that he said that he went into hiding, then came a realization…that if he was going to kill himself and join Scarlett in the afterlife, he'll take all those responsible for his pain with him" said Lilith.
Charlie and Vaggie were shocked.
"First thing he did is he went to the town's police station and…slaughtered all the cops there. Saying that the force was corrupt to the core and needed to be…cleansed" said Lilith.
Charlie and Vaggie were mortified.
"Wow, just…wow" Vaggie muttered.
"Shortly after that, he went back into hiding and marked the people who ruined his and Scarlett's life and made him miserable, the mayor and his associates. He found them and one night, while the mayor was doing paperwork, Nightfright snuck into his office and killed him…violently" said Lilith.
"What…what did he do to him" Charlie asked.
"He said that he turned his hand into a long blade and sliced the mayor in half, right down the middle" Lilith replied.
Charlie and Vaggie were horrified.
"Wow...brutal" said Charlie.
"Then what happened" Vaggie asked.
"Before he killed himself, he said he paid a visit to his parents" said Lilith.
"He didn't kill them did he" Charlie asked.
"Oh no, he said he just pushed them into a corner and went off on them, berating them about all the horrible things they've done to him and how horrible they were as parents. He said by the end of it he ran out of breath, that his mother was crying and his father was red in the face and wanted to yell but knew he couldn't do anything considering he knew what his son was capable of" said Lilith.
"Honestly…sounds like they got what they deserved" said Vaggie.
"Indeed, I personally can't stand horrible parents like that" said Lilith.
"Then what happened mom" Charlie asked.
"He said that before he left, he glanced back at them and said "You two aren't my mom and dad, you never were" said Lilith.
Charlie and Vaggie were silent for a moment.
"I would say that's cold but then again, considering how they probably treated them, it's not" said Charlie.
"After that he said he went to the spot where he proposed to Scarlett, turned his hand into a blade then jabbed it into his heart. He said his last words were "Fuck…humanity" as he died with hate and anger in his heart, wanting to join Scarlett in the afterlife" said Lilith.
Charlie and Vaggie were speechless.
"And there you have it dear, Nightfright's human life" said Lilith.
"Wow, no wonder he doesn't want to talk about his old life. It was so…rough and horrible for him" said Charlie.
"Yeah, for both him and his wife " said Vaggie.
"That's what the worst of humanity can do to you darling…make even the purest of good souls into bad and vengeful ones" said Lilith.
"Thanks mom, we'll be on our way now" said Charlie.
"No problem darling. Feel free to stop by again, whenever you need anything" Lilith replied.
Charlie and Vaggie then left, discussing the story they just heard.
"Well…what now" Vaggie asked.
"We just leave Nightfright and Scarlett alone, it's clear that they've been through enough" said Charlie.
"Yeah, your right, they've suffered enough" said Vaggie.
"Yep, those two deserve a happily ever after" said Charlie.
Vaggie just smiled and rolled her eye as they headed back to the Hotel.
The next day in their apartment, Nightfright was sitting down watching TV when Scarlett came out of the bedroom holding a peculiar necklace that he recognized.
"Honey…is that…" he was cut off.
"That one necklace I wanted badly in New York a long time ago. Yes it is" she replied.
"How…how did you get it? Where did you get it" he asked her.
"Turns out, the Grimoire can open portals anywhere I want, including backrooms of jewelry stores and inside the vaults of banks. Combine that with our human disguises and some masks and nobody will know it's you" said Scarlett.
Nightfright then had a grin on his face.
"Do you realize what this means" he asked her.
"What" Scarlett asked him.
"We can take as much money as we want from banks in one small city and go out nights in the human world to bigger and more famous cities, get the kind of luxury only rich people have" he replied.
Scarlett got the same grin as him.
"Now that's what I'm talking about" she said.
"Not only that, we can use our old names as…aliases while going out. If someone asks why our eyes are red, we tell them we were born with it" he said.
"Perfect" she replied.
"That settles it my dear. Tomorrow night, we'll have some real fun, where do you wanna go" he asked her.
"Las Vegas, here we come" she replied.
"Nice" he said.
Everything faded to black except for their red eyes.
