Marley was eating breakfast as Alec poured coffee in his cup and then say down. "Mmm. This is delicious."
"Good." Alec comment to her. "Maybe you should save the spatula I used for your photo and made a box for it." Then he took a sip of his coffee.
Marley cleaned her mouth with a napkin. "Alec, if my photo is still an issue for you, perhaps we should talk about it."
"No, it's my issue." Alec sighed, not looking at her. "I just got so swept up that I… that I never stopped to think about the future."
"We fell in love and have an baby on the way." Marley told him. "There's nothing else to think about."
Alec looked at her. "I can't stomach the idea that, one day, I'm gonna be old and feeble and becoming this burden to you."
"Look, there's no universe where you would ever be a burden." Marley told him. "Not even our son."
"You say that now." Alec sighed.
They both think about that for a moment as then Marley told him. "Okay, maybe the reason you're having such a hard time processing this is because this is your first relationship."
"Right, because the whole immortality thing is no big deal." Alec scoffed. "This is all just because you're the only girl I've ever been with."
"No, no, no." Marley sighed. "All I'm saying is every relationship is complicated. Perhaps ours wouldn't seem so daunting if you'd have been with at least one person before me."
"Oh." Alec was offended. "So, what? I should go sow my oats?"
"You're putting words in my mouth, that's not…" Marley was interrupted by Alec.
"And you're twisting this into something that it isn't." Alec argued. "I'm not a child, Marley."
"I'm not one either." Marley hissed to him.
They lost eye contact. "I've lost my appetite." Alec leave the table as Marley sighed.
"Child of the year goes to… Alec." Marley muttered as she stood up as well. Then she dressed in her maternity clothes.
Maryse and Izzy were walking through the halls as then they met Marley. "Hey, Marley. How are you?"
"I'm good." Marley had her hand on her stomach. "He's too."
"And you and Alec?" Maryse asked to her.
"We had an argument." Marley sighed.
"Oh." Maryse told her.
"Yeah, I don't want to talk about it further, please." Marley told her.
Then they walked further to Izzy's room as they were quiet for a few moments, but then Maryse comment to Izzy. "Your father says Max is doing much better."
"That makes me so happy." Izzy smiled, just then her phone beeped and has a message from Charlie: "Help me decide?" with a picture of a vending machine.
Maryse looked over and comment. "Uh-oh. Who are you talking to?"
Izzy gestured and lowered her phone. "Nobody." Then she sighed. "Mom, we need to talk."
"About your new beau?" Maryse asked to her.
"About you." Izzy replied to her mother. "Your excommunication and…"
"I told you, Isabelle." Maryse told her. "I'm okay."
"Oh, how are you settling in?" Marley asked to her.
"Good, I have already found a place to live in." Maryse replied to her.
"Then we can visit you from time to time, then?" Marley asked to her.
Maryse nodded. "Yes, dear."
Just then, they entered Izzy's bedroom. "Why don't I believe you?" Then Izzy throws her phone on the bed. "Mama, we said no more secrets. Remember? You don't have to hide how you feel."
Maryse sighed. "I feel so lost, like I don't know who I am anymore." Then she went to the mirror and took off her scarf. "Look at me. It's like they were never even there."
Izzy went over to her and stood next to her as Marley watched them. "You're still you. Still strong and brave and beautiful."
"But no longer a Shadowhunter. I don't know what I'm supposed to do now." Maryse walked away from the mirror and sat down on the bed.
"You are still a mundane, Maryse." Marley told her.
Then, Izzy sat down next to her mother, followed by Marley. "You're not alone. You have four kids that love you more than anything and a grandson on the way." She took Maryse's hand. "In fact, Alec and I were talking. We wanna take you out tonight."
"I don't think that's a good idea." Maryse sighed.
"You said yourself you wanted to spend more time with us." Izzy smiled. "So, let's go out as a family."
Maryse smiled a well. "All right, I'll go… if I get to meet him." She gestured to the phone.
"It's only been one date. It's not even serious." Izzy told her.
"I know my daughter." Maryse told her daughter. "Anyone who makes you smile like that, must be someone special. Bring him tonight."
"Do you want to come?" Izzy asked to Marley.
"No, I have plans with my father." Marley shook with her head and walked out of the room, sighing heavily.
Later, Marley went to her father, to pay him a visit, when she walked in, Magnus was busy with something, but stopped as he saw her. "Hello, biscuit." Then he noticed her sad face. "What's wrong?"
"I had an argument with Alec over something so stupid and he acted like a child, when we are having a child." Marley sighed.
Magnus walked over to her and hugged. "It will be okay."
I hope so..." Marley looked at her father as then they went to sit down. "It just I have this picture of an ex boyfriend and he went crazy about it, like crazy, dad. I didn't even noticed that i still had it, so, then he went to think about the future and said when I'm old..." she sighed. "I'm immortal, dad, I have to see him grow old and pass away." She broke down in tears. I live with the day, I don't want to look into the future already, I'm not ready to move in with him."
"Oh, munchkin." Magnus heart ached to his daughter as then he hugged her.
"We are having a baby, most likely to me, but we don't know about that." Marley sobbed. "He's all about the future and I don't think about it yet."
"Munchkin, you love with Alec is that I haven't seen in a long while." Magnus comforted his daughter. "What you have is real and not something to let it waste away, see what in time passes and decide from then."
Marley had calmed down a little. "I just joked to him, to ask a few later, but its isn't something small, it big, like child big and I can't to big things at ones."
"I think, when my grandson is born, you will think other ways." Magnus comment to her.
Marley nodded. "Okay."
Then Magnus stood up. How about some tea?"
"I would like some." Marley nodded.
"Okay." Then Magnus leaves as then the doorbell rang.
"I will open it." Marley called to her father. On the other side stood Clary.
Not much later, Magnus was inspecting Clary's drawing of the demon she saw as Marley sat in a chair, looking at them. "It all happened so fast." Clary told them. "I wish I got a better look at it."
"Well, I've seen a lot of demons in my day, but never this." Magnus comment to her.
"The last thing I remember, it touched its claw to my chest." Clary explained. "I still don't know why it didn't kill me."
"I wonder why." Marley comment. "Too." Added the last bit as an after thought.
"Powerful demons often leave an imprint, traces of their unique energy." Magnus explained to Clary. "If I can tap into the spot where it made contact with you, perhaps we can get a better sense of what we're dealing with."
Clary nodded and moved her hair back as Magnus used his magic on Clary's chest. Then it's like Magnus burned his fingers, he had pulled out a dark red energy trace. "What is it?" Clary and Marley asked, almost on the same time.
"This energy signature, it's the same one that corrupted the ley lines. It seems that we're chasing the same demon." Magnus replied to them as then he picked up a piece of paper and writes a fire message, then he sends it off.
"What are you doing?" Clary asked, almost in panic.
Magnus looked at her. "I'm sending a message to an old contact. He has access to information far beyond my resources. Hopefully, he's willing to help us identify the beast."
"I should tell Jace." Clary looked distraught.
Magnus put a hand on her shoulder. "Biscuit, is everything okay?"
"I tried to tell Jace about all this earlier, but he was acting strange." Clary sighed.
"Strange how?" Marley asked to her.
Clary sighed, heavily. "Maybe I'm being paranoid, but he didn't exactly seem happy to see me. I tried to hug him, and it just… it felt odd."
Magnus glanced at his daughter. "Relationships. They can be exasperating, can't they?"
"Yeah." Clary nodded.
"Sometimes, it's best just to be patient." Magnus told her, again glancing at Marley. "Jace has been through a lot. He probably just needs some time." Just then, a fire message flew into the room, Clary dodged it, but Magnus catches it. "Oh, we're in luck. Brother Zachariah says he's willing to meet. Tonight."
Later, it was night as Clary, Marley and Magnus were waiting for Zachariah. "So, where is your friend?" Clary asked to Magnus.
"He should be here." Magnus replied to her.
"I hope so." Marley sighed.
Clary looked at her. "Marley, are you okay?"
"Yeah." Marley nodded to her.
Clary turned to look at her. "I've been so focused on my own problems, but I can tell. Something's going on."
"Alec and I had a argument." Marley sighed. "A bad one. We both said some things we didn't actually mean."
"I'm sorry." Clary looked in sympathy. "But there's nothing you two can't work out."
"I hope that's true." Marley sighed, looking at her.
They have moment as then a voice echoed through the park. "Magnus Bane. It has been too long." The Silent Brother was talking to them with his mind, not opening his mouth as he speaks. His face is mundane, not sewn shut.
"Indeed it has." Magnus told him. "I'm sorry to call on you like this. Clary, Marley, this is Brother Zachariah."
"You're a Silent Brother?" Clary asked to him.
Zachariah looked at her. "I know I appear unlike the others. But that is a tale for another day. These texts contain information on long-forgotten demon forms. They may hold a clue to your creature's identity." Then he handed books and papers to Magnus. "You understand, if the Brotherhood discovers I helped you with this…"
"No one will know you were here today." Magnus looked at him. "Thank you for your assistance."
"Any friend of Will Herondale is a friend of mine." Zachariah looked at him.
"Herondale?" Clary asked confused.
Magnus looked at her. "We both were close with Jace's ancestor."
"I know I shouldn't ask this, but did you help with Jace's treatment?" Clary looked at Zachariah. "He's been acting differently since he got back."
He nodded. "We received his treatment request. I would have been happy to oversee it."
"Would have been?" She asked worried. "What do you mean?"
"Jace Herondale never came to the Silent City." He replied to her.
Clary, Marley and Magnus looked at each other, trying to put the pieces together.
A Portal opened as then they stepped out of it. Clary looked at them. "If he wasn't in the City of Bones, then where the hell was he?"
"I'm sure there's an explanation, maybe even a good one." Magnus replied to her.
"We're supposed to be in this together." Clary told them. "You don't lie to someone you love."
"I can agree to that." Marley comment to her.
"Wait." Magnus realised something. "You said Jace was acting cold towards you earlier. Detached. As if he didn't have any feelings for you anymore."
"I don't know." Clary shrugged. "I guess."
"Around the time that Jace was preparing to go to the Silent City, a woman came to see me. She requested an elixir that would make a person fall out of love." Magnus explained it to her. "There was something off about her. I couldn't put my finger on it right away, but what if she was simply masking her power? What if she was the demon that attacked you, disguised in human form?"
Clary looked at him. "You really think that's possible?"
"To complete the potion, a sliver of soul is required from the object of affection." Magnus replied to her. "And you wondered why the demon only touched you, instead of just kill you."
"But why?" Clary was even more confused. "Why would this woman give this elixir to Jace?"
"We need to find him." Magnus replied to her.
"And fast." Marley added.
Clary nodded and she grabbed her phone. She called Luke. "Hey, kiddo." He comment to her over the phone.
"Luke, you at Hunter's Moon?" Clary asked to him.
"Yeah." Luke replied to her.
"Is Jace there?" Clary asked to him.
"Yeah, he just left a couple minutes ago." Luke replied to her "Why? What's wrong?"
A few moments later, the Owl leaned over Ollie and started sucking out her soul as then Clary appeared in the alley, her blades out. "Stop!" Clary shouted as the Owl stood up. Ollie's body was shaking. Clary throws her blades at the Owl, who dodged them.
Just when the Owl's about to throw a blade back at Clary, Magnus jumped in front of her, followed by Marley and fired off his magic. Then he glanced at Marley. "Het out of here, it dangerous." Marley nodded and portaled away from there as the blade ended up in a wall. Magnus charged his magic, but the Owl had magic too and blasted Magnus against a wall. The Owl and Clary make eye contact. Then gunshots were fired by Luke and the Owl was out for just a moment, he quickly stood up again and then… morphed into Jace.
Clary looked in shock. "Oh, my God. Jace. It's you?" Jace looked at Clary, then back at Luke. There was no escape, but with his Owl skills, he climbed the wall and jumped onto the roof, with one last look at Ollie. Ollie stood up, cracked her neck and was then gone in a flash. "It was him all along." Clary sighed.
