A few months later, their son Aiden was getting stronger by the day in these months and now he was home with Marley and Alec. Still in the institute, but in the room with them. Marley went to look after their son as Alec and the others went on missions, she will join sometimes, when they think it can, sometimes it can't. Sometimes, not every time, Marley would visit her father or Maryse, so that they could see him. They all love him very much and would do anything to protect him.
Now she was by her father, waiting for Alec to return from the mission, Magnus was getting ready. Then Alec returned and went to his greet his son, he picked him up and hugged. "How's my little guy doing today?" He asked. Aiden make a noise at him. "What is he saying?" He glanced at Marley.
"I don't speak baby, Alec." Marley replied as she went over to them. "But I think, he's happy to see you." She kissed him.
"I'm happy to see you too." Alec told his son, then he looked at Marley. "I'm happy to see you too, Marley." He grinned at her.
"Well, I'm glad for that, cause my father is getting really. I don't remember what though." Marley told him. "And he said it wouldn't be long, but it is already long." She sighed. "Aiden wanted to his grandfather." She said loudly.
Just then, Magnus walked into the room. "Sorry, I'm late."
Marley glared at him. "You wanted to see your grandson, so don't any excuses."
"I could do my eyeliner okay." Magnus was being grumpy ever since he lost his magic.
"You could just have ask me, dad. I can help you." Marley told him.
"I don't want to be a burden, munchkin. Not with Aiden." Magnus felt guilty.
Marley looked at him. "If you need help, just ask." She told him. "And don't feel guilty about it."
"Okay." Magnus nodded.
Just then, there's a knock on the door. "You expecting someone?" Alec asked to him.
"Ah! I am. I almost forgot." Magnus went to open the door as then Madzie runs into his arms.
"Magnus!" Madzie shouted happily.
"Sweet Pea!" Magnus shouted even happily.
Then, Catarina entered. "Thank you so much for letting her stay with you. Especially considering all you're going through."
"Oh, don't be silly. It is my unbridled pleasure." Magnus told her.
Alec saw Madzie, he quickly put his son into Marley's arms. "Hey!" He called happily.
"Hey! Alec's here! Hi Catarina." Madzie runs into Alec's arms and he lifted her up, holding her on his arm.
"Look who we have as a house-guest while Catarina's off to a… nursing convention?" Magnus frowned a bit.
"You haven't seen anything 'til you've seen drunk RNs bitching about doctors." Catarina replied to him.
Alec looked at Madzie. "How about when I get home from work today, we're gonna play… Sharks and Minnows?" Madzie nodded happily. "Yeah? All right. Come on."
Later, Alec was reading Madzie a story in the guest room bed. Marley leaned against the door frame and watched them with a smile. Magnus stood by her, watching them. Aiden was already asleep. "So… be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea, you're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way." Then he was finished and looked at Madzie.
"One more?" She asked to him.
Then Magnus entered the room. "We can read as many as you like in the morning." Alec got off the bed.
"Can you make a night-light like the last time?" Madzie asked to him as Marley entered the room as well.
They shared a look. "I can't right now, Madzie, but… I can leave the light on if you want."
"No, thank you." Madzie used her magic to make a moon and clouds shining over her in the room.
"All right." Alec tucked Madzie in. "Come on. Sweet dreams."
"Sweet dreams, sweetie." Marley told to Madzie.
Madzie looked at Magnus. "See you later, alligator."
"After a while, crocodile." Magnus smiled at her, then he turned off the light and him, Marley and Alec leave the room. Magnus closed the door.
"You OK?" Marley asked to her father.
"Yeah." Magnus nodded. "I suppose this… new, powerless reality is gonna take some time to get used to."
"Of course it is." Marley told her father.
"How about we watch a movie?" Magnus asked to them. "I've been meaning to introduce you to the work of my friend Baz Lurhmann."
"Baz?" Alec asked confused.
"The director." Magnus replied to him.
Marley raised an eyebrow at her father. "Of…?"
"You really need to hone your cinematic palette." Magnus laughed at his daughter.
Suddenly, there was an energetic pulse and they hear Madzie shouting. "Nana! Nana, no!"
They rushed into the room and see Iris standing by a Portal, her hand stretched out to Madzie. "It's OK, honey. Nana's here to take you home."
"Iris!" Magnus tried to use his magic, but he had none anymore.
"Get away from her!" Marley used her magic instead and Iris dived into the Portal. Madzie runs to Magnus who lifted her up and the Portal closed.
"It's OK, Sweet Pea. You're safe now." Magnus told her, seriously.
Not much later, Marley had put up wards as her father had showed her. Then Aiden was with baby sitter as they were now in the institute. Alec had gathered the Shadowhunters to talk everyone about Iris and Madzie. "Iris raised Madzie since she was a new-born. She's not going to stop until she gets her back."
"How was she even able to get past Magnus's wards?" Izzy asked to them, confused.
Alec, Marley and Jace shared a look. "When Magnus lost his powers, his wards did too." Jace replied to her.
Just then, Magnus joined the group. "Madzie's back with Catarina. She's portalling her to the High Warlock of Estonia's castle outside of Koluvere. His wards should keep Iris out."
"Well, they can't stay in Estonia forever." Izzy comment.
Alec nodded. "Which is why we need to find Iris."
"Well, she's most likely still in the city." Magnus suggested. "We should act fast."
"Magnus, we have this covered." Alec told him, concerned. "All right? Iris is extremely dangerous. She's already escaped the Gard, and she's more than willing to kill for Madzie."
"So am I." Magnus told him determined. "Powers or no powers, I need to be a part of this. Look, I know Iris. I know how she thinks."
Alec looked at Jace, who nodded. "All right."
"Okay." Magnus told them. "We can start with a sweep around her brownstone. She's lived there for over a century."
"Alright, we will look." Marley suggested as then Magnus, Marley and Izzy go over to some screens, Jace went the other way. Alec follows him, calling him back, then they were talking for a bit.
Izzy, Magnus, Marley and Alec were looking for Iris. "She was nowhere near her old brownstone. What makes you think she's gonna be around here?" Izzy asked as Alec looked through the window of a shop.
"Well, this herbal shop is a front for warlock supplies. No doubt Iris would need to restock. Maybe she's been here." Magnus was handling and pointing the sword he's been given. "Hmm. Well, I do have to say, I do like the feel of this thing."
"Careful." Izzy warned him. "It may not be made of adamas, but I made sure it's sharp enough to cut straight through bone."
"Dad, please be careful." Marley pleaded as he nodded to her.
"There's nothing in here but a bunch of tea and stuff." Alec complained.
"Yeah, to anyone but a warlock." Magnus began as then Suddenly, behind him, a Portal opened.
They saw it was Iris as Alec shouted. "Iris, wait!"
Iris shoot her magic at Magnus, who ducked, so now the magic blasted Izzy, Marley and Alec through the windows into the shop. Magnus fights off Iris' magic with his blade. They're at a clash, Iris' magic was victorious over Magnus' blade. Iris wrapped her magic around Magnus, pulling him into the Portal with her. Izzy, Marley and Alec have managed to stand back up. Marley had a magic ball ready. "Dad!" She shouted as Magnus was pulled into the Portal with Iris and it closed after them.
Marley sat in a chair by the fire place as Alec stood next to her. Then Izzy went over them and stood next to them. "What was I thinking? I should never have let him come." Alec felt guilty.
"It's not your fault, Alec." Marley told him, seriously. "My dad is stubborn as a mule." Then she looked up at him. "You know as I, we can't go through that." He nodded to her.
"Magnus isn't what she's really after. Madzie is." Izzy reminded them. "We can use that to our advantage."
Alec shook with his head. "No. I'm not letting Madzie anywhere near her."
"I can agree to that." Marley told them, seriously.
"Actually, maybe getting Madzie to Iris is exactly what we should be doing." Izzy suggested.
Alec turned to look at Izzy. "What?"
"I have an idea. We need to call Catarina." Izzy replied to him as then she walked away.
Then, Alec looked at Marley. "Maybe you should sit this one out?" He suggested.
"No, this is my father. I'm going with you." Marley shook with her head.
"You are as stubborn as your father." Alec comment with a small smile.
"Don't I know it." Marley comment back. "I think our son has it too."
"Oh god, three of them." Alec groaned.
"You are one to talk, you can be stubborn as well, Alec." Marley raised an eyebrow.
Alec held his arms up. I know, I know."
"Good." Marley comment as then she followed after Izzy, moments later Alec followed them as well.
Arrived on the streets, Izzy's whip was quickly wrapped around Iris' wrists as she walked through the mist. Then Alec shouted. "Hey!" Alec shoot his arrow, pinning Iris to the wall of a building.
Then Marley went to Magnus, who got up stumbling. "Daddy!"
"I hope you enjoyed your freedom… cause you're going right back to the Gard." Izzy comment to Iris.
"I tried to stop her…" Magnus whispered.
"It's okay, dad." Marley told her father. "We've got her, that's what matters."
Back at the institute, Iris was escorted by two guards into a Portal, before she disappeared Iris looked back at Alec and Marley angrily one more time. Then Penhallow came to them. "Mr. Lightwood, Miss Miller."
"Consul." Alec greeted her.
"Nice job rounding up the escapees in New York City." She gave them a compliment.
Alec looked at her. "We do our best. But something tells me you didn't come all this way to pat us on the back."
"You're right." Penhallow nodded. "I have come to officially inform Clary Fairchild's Institute that I am posthumously pardoning her of her crimes against the Clave."
"That means a great deal to all of us." Alec told her, somewhat relieved.
Penhallow looked at him. "The young woman saved my life. May the Angel bless her soul. You, on the other hand, should be made to pay for your insubordination." She told him, she was only speaking directly to him.
"I understand." Alec nodded.
"Unfortunately, many in Alicante consider you and your Institute heroes for taking down Lilith, which means going after you would be a political minefield for me. But make no mistake: from here on out, I'm watching your every move." Penhallow somewhat threatened him as then she was about to walk away, but Izzy walked up to her.
"Consul Penhallow." Izzy looked at her. "May I have a word?" Penhallow nodded. "I've spoken to several captured Downworlder escapees, and there's been a troubling trend in what they're reporting."
Penhallow blinked. "Oh? And what is that?"
"Multiple prisoners have described being systematically tortured in the Gard." Izzy replied to her.
"I can assure you, the Clave does not engage in torture." Penhallow told her, seriously. Then she walked away and disappeared through a Portal.
Later, Magnus was leaning against his desk, in his apartment. Marley was with him. "Dad, I want you to know that I'm proud of you."
Magnus looked at her confused. "For what? For being so powerless that, I was able not only to get kidnapped, but injured as well?"
"You were powerful enough to hold your ground and to keep your memories of Madzie's true location from Iris." Marley replied. "And that's saying something."
"That's not power." Magnus sighed.
Marley shook with her head. "Yes it is, Dad. One think i have learned is that, your power doesn't just come from your magic. It comes from your inner strength."
"I just… I still feel so humiliated." Magnus looked away.
"Why?" Marley asked to him. "Your grandson can learn one thing or two from you."
"Having you, Alec and Isabelle rescue me, and… healed by Catarina." Magnus told her. "I hate that feeling of having to rely on others to take care of me."
"You've been taking care of others your whole life." Marley said, softly. "Sometimes, it's okay to let others take care of you."
"Well, I'll tell you one thing. This is the last time I plan on getting beaten up. It's time I learn how to fight without my magic." Magnus told her, determined.
"Well, I know a thing or two about fighting. So, what do you say I help you out?" Marley suggested. "And I had a good teacher, that helped me also."
"Great idea." Magnus told her. "But who was this teacher?"
Marley just laughed at her fathers silliness.
Author's note: I hope you all liked this chapter! And I have decided that as the end of this series, I will be doing a crossover with TVD and I don't remember if I told about it earlier in the chapter, so I will tell now. And it's gonna be a Damon/Marley pairing, so I hope you all like the idea that I'm doing! If not, that's your opinion and i respect that.
Until next time, bye.
