They were in Alec's office. Luke was bringing all the books he found in Elliot's safe to Alec and Marley. "You found all this in Elliot's book shop?" Alec asked to him.
Luke nodded. "Yeah, he kept detailed records on the whereabouts of all sorts of Shadowhunter relics." He replied to him. "If you're looking for the sword Jonathan's after, it's a good place to start."
"All right." Alec nodded. "Well, we'll get a team on this right away."
"We'll call if we find anything." Marley added.
"Cool." Luke leaves as Izzy entered.
Izzy looked at Luke. "Oh, hey!"
"Hey, Isabelle." Luke leaves and Izzy went to Alec and Marley.
Izzy looked at them. "So, I was thinking about what Sentry Greenlaw said before he was murdered."
"Isabelle, what did Mom say about meddling in Clave affairs?" Alec asked to her.
"He said he had information on what was going on at the Gard and was killed for it." Izzy sighed. "Aren't you interested in knowing what he had to say?"
"Of course. But, there are…" Alec was interrupted.
"His last word was "inside." And I think he was being literal. I want to do an autopsy." Izzy told him.
Alec raised an eyebrow. "Don't you think Jia might notice if we return a body that's already been cut open?"
"I'll be stealthy. This is important, Alec. It's our responsibility to find out what's really going on here." Izzy replied to him.
"Twenty-four hours. And then I'm reporting it to the Clave." Alec told her.
Underhill was with Alec and Marley, flipping through pages of one of Elliot's books. "Are we really supposed to read through every page until we find a mention of the Morning Star Sword?" Throwing the book on the table. "There's got to be a faster way."
"Yeah." Marley comment. "I know."
Suddenly, the table started shaking and pages fly up in the air. Underhill, Marley and Alec were confused but then they see Magnus entered. "I can help speed things up." Then he created a tornado of pages, picking out certain ones. "Hmm. All the pages referencing the Morning Star Sword."
The tornado of pages has stopped and Magnus investigated the pages. Alec was confused with what just happened.
Then, Magnus went to the desk with the pages, Alec and Marley followed him. "Dad, how did you get your magic back?" She asked to her father.
"I got some help from Lorenzo." Magnus replied to her.
Alec frowned. "Lorenzo? Why would he help you?"
"He's the High Warlock. It's his job." Magnus looked at them. "Will you help me look through these?"
Marley looked at her father. "I feel like there's something you're not telling me."
"I thought you'd be happy for me." Magnus frowned.
Marley sighed. "I am, but…" She was interrupted.
"A-ha!" Magnus exclaimed. "Here it is. A list of transactions involving the Morning Star sword. And according to this ledger, it ended up in the hands of Liam Janssens."
"That doesn't sound like a Shadowhunter name." Alec comment.
"It doesn't." Marley agreed.
"No, he's a mundane and very wealthy." Magnus comment to them. "Collector from Antwerp. Apparently, he was so obsessed with the Sword that he was buried with it. Hmm. Fancy a trip to Belgium?"
"So we can go grave-robbing?" Alec asked back.
"Sounds less classy when you put it that way." With a snap of his fingers, Magnus created a Portal. "Feels good to be back." Magnus entered the Portal. Alec and Marley followed him, sending a fire message to a babysitter for Aiden as then the Portal closed.
Magnus, Marley and Alec stepped out of the Portal and it closed after them. "New York to Antwerp in seconds. There really isn't a better way to travel." Magnus told them.
Then they entered the mausoleum. Magnus lights the torches on the walls with his magic. "Let's just grab the Sword and get out of here. Don't touch anything you don't have to." Alec comment.
"I couldn't agree more." Marley agreed with him.
Magnus looked at him. "Alexander, surely you're not squeamish about seeing a dead body." He told him as then he looked at Marley. "Not you too, munchkin."
"No. I'm squeamish about disturbing a man's grave." Alec told him.
"Me too." Marley agreed. "I don't like it."
"Mmm." Magnus snapped his fingers and slides the lid off the stone grave in the middle of the mausoleum.
It came to a sudden stop. "Easy." Alec comment.
"Relax." Magnus picked up the cloth covering the body. Then, he tried to take the sword that's clenched between the bones of the body, but it doesn't give. Then, Magnus used his magic to make the sword fly up into his hand. He took the sword out of the sheath and examined it.
"So, it's the Morning Star sword?" Marley asked to her father.
"Nope." Magnus replied to her.
"What?" Alec asked confused.
"The sheath appears to be authentic." Magnus replied to him. "Onyx-plated silver. But the blade, not so much. It's a fake. Someone beat us to it." Then he slides the sword back in the sheath and handed it to Alec.
Alec frowned. "Jonathan?"
"I don't think so." Magnus pointed. "Judging from the cobwebs, it's been at least years."
Alec took the sword partly out of the sheath. "There's an inscription." Marley went over him as he read the Latin inscription out loud.
"Sword of Lucifer, whose might will drive the fallen…"
"From the many realms of Hell."
Magnus looked at them. "With the real sword, Jonathan can summon an army of demons."
Later, the Portal appeared and Magnus, Marley and Alec stepped out of it. Magnus immediately started to gather some of his things. "Oh, okay, let's be quick." Magnus told them. "I have a couple of books that I want to bring that might mention the sword. And it couldn't hurt to take along a few apothecary supplies."
"What the hell are you doing?" Marley asked to her father.
"We can come back after we check in at the Institute." Alec added.
Magnus was slowing down with the packing. "Actually, I don't think that's possible."
Marley frowned. "Why not?"
"When Lorenzo gave me my magic back, he did so at a price." Magnus replied to her.
"He asked you for your…" Marley was interrupted.
"Apartment." Magnus finished her.
Alec frowned. "Why?"
"I wasn't in a position to refuse." Magnus replied to him.
"I'll kill him." Marley said, angry.
"Munchkin, no." Magnus told her, quickly.
"He took advantage of you. He stole your home." Marley said, angry.
"He didn't steal it." Magnus told her. "I gave it to him. And if I had to, I'd do it again."
"Huh?" Marley was confused.
Magnus looked around the apartment. "I've had many, many happy memories in this apartment. But at the end of the day, it's just a thing. But my magic, it makes me feel alive. Yes, I can do fabulous tricks, jet around the world, help the people I love. But more than that… magic connects me to everything around me. Without magic, I feel like a stranger. The world keeps on going… and it's like… It's like I'm not a part of it. It's like, suddenly, I don't matter."
"Magnus, of course you matter." Alec told him, seriously.
"Yeah, dad." Marley agreed with Alec.
"I know. I know, Alexander, Munchkin. Everyone does. But without magic, I can't feel it. This apartment is not important. I have you and I have my magic. Truly, that's enough." Grabbing Marley's hand. "Please, try and be happy for me. Hmm?"
"Alright." Marley nodded.
Lorenzo entered with a smile. Marley was standing in the living room. "You really are despicable, aren't you?"
"Ah, Miss. Bane." Lorenzo looked at her. "What a pleasant surprise. I didn't know you came with this apartment."
"Huh." Marley told him.
Lorenzo ignored what she just said and looked outside. "It really is a beautiful space wouldn't you agree? The perfect Brooklyn pied-à-terre."
"You're the High Warlock." Marley almost hissed at him. "You're supposed to protect people like me and my father, not exploit them."
"As a matter of fact, I did help your father." He turned to look at her. "There's nothing to say that I shouldn't be compensated for it."
Marley frowned. "I've seen your mansion. You don't need this apartment. You just wanted to humiliate him."
"Yes, I did." Lorenzo told her. "And the fact that he sent his daughter to plead his case tells me I more than succeeded."
Marley approached Lorenzo. "I'm a Warlock like you and my boyfriend is the head of the institute. Don't speak to me like that."
"You're right." He nodded. "Perhaps this is getting unnecessarily heated."
Marley looked at him. "I want you to give my father his apartment back. And I'll make you a deal, a fair one. One not beneath your dignity as a leader."
"Let me tell you something about being a leader." Lorenzo told her, seriously. "When a subordinate comes to question your judgment and launches a fireball in your face, it's your duty to put him in line. Your father still hasn't accepted that I'm the High Warlock now. Not him. If I had to break his spirit to teach him that, so be it."
"Enjoy this position while it lasts." Marley told him. "The Clave doesn't take kindly to conniving, unethical Downworld leaders. You will slip up. And when you do, I'll be waiting there to take you down." Then she exit the apartment through the front door.
